New minifigs

Posted by ,

It's been a quiet news day today, so to give you something to look at, here are photos of two of the three available LEGO Movie polybag minifigs and TC-4.

The Robot DJ and Emmet in Pyjamas are being given away at various cinemas/theatres across the world at the moment. I picked mine up at an Odeon in the UK.

I must admit to not catching the DJ in the movie, but my wife says he was in there somewhere. It was hard to miss Emmet in Pyjamas, he gets a lot of screen time.

The DJ has a brown version of the hair/headphones used on the DJ in series 8 of the collectable minifigs. Emmet's back and sides of legs are printed with pyjama stripes. I wonder how long it'll be before we have minifigs with printing on the backs of their legs.

TC-4 is currently available in Toys R Us in the UK for £2.49 or free with a £10 Star Wars purchase. From what I hear though, he's proving hard to actually find. I am therefore grateful to SirKevbags from our favourite LEGO charity FairyBricks for securing one for me.

I'm no expert in protocol droids but it appears to be an identical print to other recent droid units. (update: it turns out that this is the first one with printed legs and mouth.)

All of these minifigs are made in China and it's interesting to see that the tell-tale signs of the place of manufacture are no longer present. Two of the minifigs have (c) LEGO inside a foot, and the hands no longer have a mould number visible on the wrist. However the plastic is still not quite on a par with that used elsewhere. Given these are unique figures, this won't bother collectors much anyway.

Three nice minifigs, grab them if you can...

Great figures, thanks for your review Huw. Does anyone know if the movie figures are available in Ireland?

By in Venezuela,

Hi Huw, it is the first LEGO protocol droid with printing on the legs

By in Canada,

^ Is that right? I didn't know that, thanks.

By in United States,

I believe the DJ is seen in a hallway as Pres Business is heading into his office.

By in United Kingdom,

Looking at the Emmet in Pyjamas figure it seems an identical body to the Series 6 Sleepyhead (even down to number of stripes). Perhaps this is an observation everyone has already made but I thought with the multiple Emmet's I'm collecting this would be easy to replicate with a Sleepyhead. Useful with no access to an Odeon.

By in United States,

The robot appears before President Business's meeting with Bad Cop. He's a DJ for the Octan Corporation's amusingly-named radio station "ROCKtan FM". Since you managed to forget/miss both him and one noteworthy model from the meeting in question, maybe that's a sign you need to watch the movie again... any excuse is a good excuse!

I love how many different Emmet variants there are, and how they don't all use the same head. I'm sure people who make Brickfilms will also love it. There are at least seven different heads for Emmet, and five (including this one) include dual expressions — this means there are twelve different faces for the character total!

TC-4 is a cool fig, but I really look forward to the day we can get an elaborately-printed Episode I version of C-3PO. That's a much more noteworthy character than these minor protocol droids who so often show up in promotional/gift-with-purchase polybags.

By in United Kingdom,

Got all three figs at the weekend! My local TRU (Wakefield) had them in on Sunday and I picked up a few, but went back today and they had none left! Think they are all great figs.
I also think the dj minifigure is filming the 'where are my pants' show. Not sure though, I've not seen the movie yet...

30282 is available in Donald Duck magazine across Scandinavia

By in United States,

I agree with Aanchir on the TC-4 comment. Being a huge Star Wars fan and LEGO SW Minifig collector, I would much rather have an EP1 C-3PO than this TC unit that didn't even make it into the movie...

But seeing as the second round of Episode 1 was a few years back when the 3D film was released I doubt we will get another chance unless it is a special edition like this. Even more so now that the new series Rebels starts next year and Episode 7 to follow... One can dream

The wife and I had gone to are local AMC here in Tampa, FL on the 8th to see TLM and being a Stubs card member was looking forward to the DJ minifig, but to my dismay they had handed out all of the the day before and claimed I would have had to been in the first showing to get one. Did anyone else have this problem or was I alone? I have a feeling when they handed them out to "Stubs Members Only" that the kids in the group complained and they ended up handing them out to every person seeing the first few showings.

Bvermerris11, I went with the wife and kids to see the movie on Sunday and my AMC still had a TON of the figures (third day of release). I asked if I could have one since the cases were just sitting there, but they said that they were only for stubs members and only for the 3D showing (in other words, they were following the rules). I suspect, as you do, that certain theaters were a bit more liberal with the distribution.

By in United States,

Is the Robot Dj torso used on other minifigures or is it new?

Gravatar
By in United States,

BrickPusher, I had met all the requirements, but it wasn't meant to be. Well the movie was great and had gone in the detection I had hoped so that made up in my mind of a promo minifig.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The robot dj is in Lord Business's tower playing "Everything is awesome" on the radio. It's in the scene where he is headed to meet good/bad cop in the hall of relics.

By in Singapore,

No free minifig here in SG :((

Robot DJ is an exclusive fig to walmart in the US when you buy the lego movie video game. It may also be available other places I am unaware of.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The DJ will also be available from wal mart in the US if you pre-order the game when it releases

Gravatar
By in United States,

@nonameheroes: The game is already out, so you can't pre-order it anymore. However, it is packaged with the game similar to how the Iron Patriot was packaged with the Lego Marvel Super Heroes game, so you may be able to find it in-store.

By in United Kingdom,

I was told in my local TRU yesterday that TC-4 was being 'scalped'. Fortunately, I got one of the three left after someone in front of me bought about 15.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@huw do you have to watch the film at the odeon to get the minifigures or can you just buy them?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What Cinema's have the Pyjama Emmet or the DJ Robot? ;)

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Too bad that these are only in US & UK.. Won't be paying $20 for it :\

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@ickleb I've not seen the Lego Movie yet. I got the DJ Robot and PJ Emmet with the kid's packs.

Walked into the Odeon on my way home from work and bought two packs.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

@ickleb, as @mister_bricks says, no, you can just walk in and buy them from the 'shop' in the foyer.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@huw & @mister_bricks thank you, will find a odeon and try and pick them up :)

By in United Kingdom,

I just went to my local TRU (Portsmouth) to attempt to get the TC-4. There were none on display, so I asked at Customer Services and they said that because they only had 12 left, they were being kept in the office. I don't think they were allowing people to just buy them outright.

No problem though, as I just bought one of each new Battle Pack and got 2 of them. I think they were limiting it to 2 per person too, which is fine by me. It's better this way, I think ... buying outright just encourages scalpers and leads to genuine customers missing out.

By in United States,

TC-4 has a printed mouth. Is it just me or is this the first protocal droid with a printed mouth?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@legomaniac: Yes, it is unique! It is slightly similar to the Master Builder Academy logo, but not identical (the wings on the MBA logo are more stylized, without realistic feathers).

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have a feeling that the TC-4 Protocol Droid fig will be a "May the Fourth" promo item.

Gravatar
By in United States,

speaking of new minifigures, has anyone seen the exclusive Bilbo Baggins (Morning Scene) when pre order and purchasing Lego The Hobbit from Gamestop and/or EB Games.

Gravatar
By in United States,

the DJ is when right before lord business sees bad cop

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would love it if TC-4 were a Toys R Us exclusive in the U.S. too, leaving the May the 4th exclusive spot open. That's probably not the case, though...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just got 2 TC-4's from TRU Warrington with 2x£12 sets. They said someone bought 15 direct yesterday and wiped them out but found a few more this morning and now limit to 3 maximum and the purchase price is now 4.99 not 2.49 to discourage purchase without a £10 set

In the Odeon in the UK, you get one movie minifig when you buy a kids' snack-pack (£3.25 for extra-small popcorn, drink cup or fruit-shoot, and sweets, e.g a tube of smarties). If you buy two of these it's still cheaper than an adult drink and popcorn. But they will insist on serving you two cups. Fortunately two extra-small mini scoops of popcorn will fit in one of the paper bags from the pick'n'mix sweets rack, and the two cups will fit in the snack holder - though I suggest a few serviettes in the bottom as the kids' cups spill when you jab the straws in.

Note that you don't necessarily need to have bought a ticket to see any film; you could just go and buy the snacks and leave.

By in United Kingdom,

I've managed to get hold of a TC-4 via fleaBay. £9 is a bit steep considering I would have gotten it free with a battle pack but, hey-ho, gotta have one. It's very 'Chinese' and I doubt it will be used for May 4th... Not the same finish quality as previous polys given away on Star Wars Day
