Wahoo!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh-Yeah. Too bad I live at least 1 hour from a Toys 'R Us. :(

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Minifigure flash drive is cute, would be great to store my creation pictures :D
I dont think I have $75 left to spend and $25 alone is a bit too much for 2GB

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hope my mom hasn't gone shopping yet :P

Gravatar
By in United States,

AWESOME! Pharaoh's Quest, here I come!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am only wondering 2 things;
1) Finally TRU shows mercy to LEGO users :D
2) Does TRU have problems on their cash flow?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Wait a minute. Does that mean you can buy a tiny set like 7566 and get 4842 for half price? Because that's astonishing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ Of course not, the stores aren't THAT stupid... Any BOGO sale like this always stipulates that the least expensive item gets the 50% off. So using your example 4842 would be full price and 7566 is half-off.

And to be the inevitable voice of pessimism, I wouldn't get too excited about this. Someone did the math a couple weeks ago with TRU's markup on another BOGO50% sale and the savings only ended up being something like $3 after spending $100+.

So check it out, yeah, but beware TRU's usual crappy mark-up tactics. Ho, ho, ho.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Agreed on the mark-up tactics. Stay away from the SW Battle Packs. But not every set is marked up. And this is a great chance to go after those TRU exclusives.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, let's take a look at an example for 2 marked up sets: Both the new Pyramid and Police Station are being sold by TRU for $109.99 each, likely 10% higher than MSRP. With this sale, you will pay $165 for the 2 sets, resulting in a more accurate BUY ONE, GET ONE 35% OFF. You can also think of it as 17.5% off each. While this markup definitely takes its toll on the discount, this is still almost 20% off and you get to pick up 2 new sets not yet available anywhere else.

I can only speak for myself, but I'll be looking at several of the 2011 sets as well as those that have still eluded me like the great Creator Jet. :o)

Gravatar
By in United States,

OMG!! Pharoahs Quest site is up with commercial!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

To anyone who saw it, I went ahead and deleted the Amazon 25% Discount article. I consider myself a bright lad but could never manage to get the discount to show up at checkout. I even called up and spoke to Amazon customer service which is 20 minutes of my life I will never get back.

The Fire Brigade and Tantive IV at 30% off were very intriguing but I guess it wasn't meant to be for me. Somewhere, my wife is excitedly jumping up and down. Good luck to anyone who can get it to work. :o)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh man, I have to go shopping now ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is awesome and @ Cap'n Crayfish, I feel your pain I am an hour away froma Toys r Us as well!
This is awesome and interesting as well. Hopefully I get something !

Gravatar
By in Canada,

is this only us or canada too?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Too bad I'm broke, and the new Atlantis and Pharaoh's Quest sets that I haven't already bought are marked up too much. I think I'll be patient and wait until next Fall when sets like the pyramid from Pharaoh's Quest and the temple from Atlantis will likely go on sale at TRU for $20-30 off combined with a random BOGO 50% sale similar to how TRU priced the City Transportation, King's Castle, and various other sets during November of this year leading up to Black Friday.

Though I could always go back for more Series 3 minifigures...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Check out the www.ToysNBricks.com 'Sales & Deals' forum for info on the Amazon 25% off issues - people are having some luck by dealing with live customer service.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Hi all, I've been waiting for an official LEGO USB! Does anyone know if these are available anywhere in Australia?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Amazon 25% off is kind of working now, it's just basically functioning as BOGO 1/2 off for some reason. So yellowcastle, your Fire Brigade and Tantive IV works perfectly since they're the same price. Put both in your cart and $70 gets taken off at checkout. However, if anybody gets two different priced sets you'll only see a discount for half the value of the lower priced set unless you contact customer service.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

@emilejzp: This sale is only in the US. The last time a sale like this happened in Canada was... the 22nd of December 2007. I sure loved that sale.

By in United States,

Toys R Us Markup ### Part Two ###: It occurred to me last night that I forgot to mention a very key point in regards to the TRU markup. Through Christmas Eve, TRU is advertising 10% back to Rewards Cards members for ALL purchases. Hopefully everyone has a rewards card already as they're free and get you tons of free goodies. That 10% back will absolutely wipe out almost any TRU markup (except Battlepacks, etc.) and therefore preserve the complete 25% savings. I'm not sure how you'll see that 10% back but usually TRU sends you "Reward Bucks" which are the same as cash there. So if you buy the Pyramid and new Police Station, you'll spend $165 (before tax) and then after Christmas receive an additional $16 likely in TRU funny money.

Thus, I stand by my original assertion that this could be the best "store" sale ever! :o)

Gravatar
By in United States,

@neoroark - thanks for the update on the Amazon deal. But after having to talk to their customer service for 20 minutes, I can't bring myself to repost the offer. Haha. :o)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Seeing as how Brickset has been heavily pusing the Amazon click-thru, I would think that the Amazon sale should also get top billing. It would certainly make you guys lots of money. Those Fire Brigade + Tantive sales are currently ringing up like mad I'll bet, and right now FBTB is likely getting all the clicks and therefore eating your lunch.

Just a thought. :)

Gravatar
By in Israel,

Woohoo! I'm going to Toys R Us today! :D I'll let y'all know what the stock of sets are like...

Gravatar
By in United States,

@mkoesel - You make a good point. I'll see what I can do.

Gravatar
By in United States,

IDK, sure, it includes SW this time around, and now that Pharaoh's Quest is out it includes that, too, but I think their best sale ever was the B2G1F sale from September - it was the over-all best value I've gotten all year aside from clearances.

Gravatar
By in United States,

In addition to the BOGO, you should also be able to use any $10 off coupons you might have (they usually can be found on weekly ads, and I've gotten some in the mail as well). I'm also a TRU employee...so I get 10% off, on top of everything else.

Also, good luck getting USB drives. My store was almost sold out on Sunday night.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@vynsane - While the discount is better with B2G1F, it's alway so difficult to match 3 similarly priced sets. I thus think that, as a whole, the B1G150% is the better deal for most people. Personally, that recent 20% off your entire order for toysrus.com was my favorite since it allowed for road plates, train accessories, direct sets, and several sets already reflected a small discount.

@natro220 - Since this sale requires a coupon, TRU has almost never allowed us to stack another coupon such as the $10 Gift Card with $75 purchase, etc. Giveaways and Reward Bucks are the only things that seemed to be allowed with the use of coupons. The emailed flyer also explicitly says the Flash Drive offer can be paired with the coupon, assuming they're still in stock.

Gravatar
By in United States,

You can use a $10 off coupon with the BOGO coupon, I just did it on Friday night with the Star Wars deal. The $10 off coupon just says "can not be used in conjuction with another total transaction coupon" which the BOGO is not.

And yes, you can get the flash drive with the coupon deal. But I don't think that most stores got a huge amount of them, so I was just saying that you might not get one if they are out of stock.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@natro220 - That's great news about the $10 coupon. I'll have to dig one up before I head over to TRU. Thanks!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The USB flash drives are out of stock online.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Called the TRUs around here and they all had multiple boxes of S3. I go in to find they are all 3.99 now, no more 2.99 ones :( Found 3 elves and left them there, even at b1g1 half off they come back down to $3 each. I am going to wait and buy from the local lego store, even if they are $3 msrp from now on, I'm sick of the scalping and varying prices from week to week. The TRU I went to no longer had them behind the counter. They were now out in the open on a center aisle display.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@cara They were 3.99 as of Saturday. I got them to price adjust down to 2.99 since box still had that sticker. However I am now boycotting TRU due to their gouging.

Gravatar
By in United States,

so i went to tru today for the bogo 50% off. i just bought 2 pharoah quest the $9.99 sets with the motorcycle and 2 mummies. when i checked out they were $11.99 shelf $9.99 when i went back to the shelf they were in the process of changing the price. they were on that like flies on..... anyways they told me i could have my 2 sets at $9.99 but that was it. what a joke that place is. the says clerk told me its common practice for them to raise the price for a BOGO50% sale on anything in the store. sounds more like they are an over priced jewelry store when do that. - salem oregon

Gravatar
By in United States,

$3.99 on minifigs S3 is outrageous, where it can be used on actual sets, even with BOGO 50%. I agree with clowndiscus (^ post above) that it's terrible when they mark-up merchandise just because of a sale that they make at a decent profit off of as it stands.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just hit the Dublin, CA store. I got my two big sets, a base plate (why, oh why can't they get in some roads??), a Creator Christmas tree and a handful of S3 figures. After an eternity in line, I get out to the car to see what my spoils are. I opened two minifigs to find out that some jerk had returned an entire case after slicing them open under the flap on back. There were a bunch of random junk pieces inside. TRU gave me cash back along with a healthy dose of stink eye. I picked out a few more from the same box and showed them the glue job.

I may go back tomorrow for more base plates and see if they have another (unopened) case. I told them to pull the rest as there would be more returns, but they looked skeptical.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I visited TRU today and have to say I was surprised to find that they had "reorganized" their shelves, and in turn, pulled all Harry Potter sets, all Train sets, all Creator Houses, the Creator Jet, and most large sets oustide of Star Wars and the King's Castle. The small and mid Pharaoh sets were there as were some of the new smaller Police sets. I can only hope that this was the exception and not the rule for TRU's around the country this week...

Additionally, I ran across a box of S2 minifigures with maybe 10 left including a Spartan. However, I refuse to pay $4.99/each even with the BOGO50% sale. I understand Borders selling them for $3.99 as these are impulse buys at a bookstore. But not at a retail toy store. You all know I'm a big supporter of TRU as they are a cornerstone of the toy world and run many wonderful promotions. But pulling your stock before a sale and how they chose to price Star Wars battlepacks and S2 minfigures? Sigh.

We have a couple more stores in our area so we'll see how their stock looks. :o)

Gravatar
By in United States,

My TRU had 1 Harry Potter set out from the entire line. I wanted the Burrow, and it was the whole reason I went in there in the first place. There weren't even shelf tags out for them anymore. I'd say this store was about the same as yours, yellowcastle.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This sale is rubbish. At least here in Colorado the day prior to the sale they had The Star Wars Slave 1 set for 69.99. The day they announced their so-called 'sale' they raised the prices to 89.99. Same goes for other sets. Target has been better are not doing rubbish like this to customers. That's where I'll be buying from.

Gravatar
By in United States,

YAY!!!!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

TRU is a rip!!! I liked the recent Target sales.

Gravatar
By in United States,

ya i was in my store in salem, 2 days ago had an endcap full of harry potter, now this sale starts and bam there gone! you know they will "get more in" when the sale is over. its a crap what these stores do

last year i asked guy in the lego isle that was working there why all the price increases, he said have you looked around in the other stores they are all out and we have the product so we are charging more

Gravatar
By in United States,

My TRU seemed inredibly light on the HP sets this AM. One copy of the burrows was all that I saw. I hadn't really been watching to see if they were moving before the sale or if they got pulled for it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just went to the Horseheads, NY TRU, and they had a pretty good selection of sets and plenty of the flash drives. Unfortunately, since I am here for work and staying in a hotel I do not have access to a printer to print the coupon. I went to customer service to explain my situation and ask if they could give me the deal anyway. Good thing I didn't get my hopes up because they wouldn't do it. At my local (Erie, PA) TRU last week, I spent a great deal of time searching for the last few S3 minifigs I needed, then was told at the register that they were limiting them to 5 per family. I said "They're B1G1 50% off, so it's only fair to sell me an even number" They told me I could buy 6 and wouldn't sell the other 4 I had picked out to my mom (because of the "per family" rule) but I managed to hand them off to her and she got in another line with them. I don't think that wanting 10 figures is unreasonable at all. They had at least 3 boxes in stock and there was a store employee filling the shelves while I was there. Since he has seen me in there a number of times, we talked for a few minutes and he never said a thing about the limit on figures. There was also no sign stating a limit. After all the time I spent finding the right figures (and helping tons of other people find the ones they wanted) I was not happy about the limit. I did manage to get 10 and all I need now is one more fisherman for my nephew.

Gravatar
By in United States,

TRU is a complete rip off. However, what I noticed at my TRU is when you BOGOHO the reciept shows one full price and the other at half. I bought 2 star wars sets for close to $60 each. What I did then was return the one that showed full price on the reciept. They gave me full credit and I kept the one which was half off.

warwick ri had the shelves clear boo, slave one at target is 61.99 free shippping with coupon code ER5PVIIO

@yellowcastle re: "I visited TRU today and have to say I was surprised to find that they had "reorganized" their shelves, and in turn, pulled all Harry Potter sets, all Train sets, all Creator Houses, the Creator Jet, and most large sets oustide of Star Wars and the King's Castle."

So, which sale was better now? :P

J/K, that was totally bogus of TRU to do that, and based on comments after yours, it wasn't an isolated incident. However, I must disagree with your assertion that it was difficult to find matching prices for the Sept. B2G1F - I found quite a few triplets, to the tune of a cool $356 (yeah, I went a bit overboard on that one).

Gravatar
By in United States,

**WARNING** - I just came back from my local TRU with the BOGO coupon still in my hand... Went there looking to grab a few more elves and complete my series 3 (still was missing the Rapper). I also got another fisherman, baseball player and, instead of a gorilla unfortunately, a second Indian Chief.

HOWEVER-- they wouldn't honor the coupon!! They kept reiterating that it clearly states 'CONSTRUCTION SET' and that the figs didn't apply. NONSENSE-- I got a little testy with the manager but stopped short from getting into a full-blown debate with her. VERY disappointed in them, esp. since they raised the price to $3.99. Jerks.

I think the original sales girl got mad at me because I told the lady behind me that she could get the Wampa Cave cheaper at Target. Frustrating.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I visited TRU #2 today at lunch and had much better, if not great success. Though they had no Harry Potter sets out and about, I did find 3 loose ones (2 trains, 1 Dobby) just lying around. They had, surprisingly, no medium or large Star Wars sets and there wasn't a Pharaoh Pyramid to be found. Additionally, the passenger train, cargo train, and railroad crossing had noticeably disappeared. Lastly, and worst for me, was that they, much like the first TRU, did not have the Sonic Boom though they did have the wonderful Apple House. Now for the good news, they had the City Garage, City Airport, City Firestation, New City Police Station, City Public Transport, Several New Atlantis sets, some of the medium/small Pharaoh sets, and the Railroad Station People Bridge thingamajiggy. Lastly, they had two 3/4 full S3 boxes and a plethora of Stormtrooper polybags, each at $3.99.

After all that, I bought just 8 S3 figures and left. :o)

@vynsane - I still contend that this is "one of the best" sales ever. :o) Especially when you factor in that it's right during Christmas shopping for many families, is unrestricted by Lego theme, and you also get 10% back (up to $50) if you use your Rewards card. It's just been frustrating for me as I previously purchased most of these other sets and was mostly thinking around the likes of Pharaoh Pyramid, Burrows, Hogwarts, Trains, and Sonic Boom.

I'm also happy to say that I was able to give a BOGO50% coupon to a shopping mother and helped out several people curious about the S3 minifigures. :o)

@Mr. Timms - While they were wrong, I'm not sure you could convince them otherwise. I've now purchased S3 minifigures twice at 2 different locations with the coupon and had no issues either time. All they have to do is scan the coupon and then scan your merchandise and let the TRU computer decide for them. But they probably don't want to do that because it will obviously honor the coupon on each pair of "sets." We have definitely heard complaints like this before about vario

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have the same experience last week when I used BOGO50% for stormtrooper polybags. The cashier said these are not construction sets and won't let me use the coupon. I ask her to scan the coupon to see if it works and of course, it works! I will go to TRU#2 tonight to hunt for S3 minifigure. Does anyone know if I can use the BOGO50% cpn, get the USB (if they have) and get $10 GC in the same order?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Assuming they have the flash drives, I don't see why you wouldn't qualify for one if you pick up at least 26 minifigures. I don't know about the GC but let us know if it works.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I found a library nearby where I could print out a coupon. After a lengthy phonecall with my mother, advising her on sets her grandsons would enjoy, she decided to do her shopping herself. The trip was still a success however, because I got two of the Pharaoh's Quest pyramid and the USB drive. For anyone else in the Horseheads, NY area, they still have plenty of the USB drives. The shelves are getting a bit bare in places, but they had most, if not all, of the Pharaoh's Quest sets, some of the 2011 Atlantis sets, and the red creator robot (which I think is also a 2011 set) Since I'm not into Star Wars, I can't really say what they had, but there seemed to be a pretty good selection. The Harry Potter sets were almost wiped out. I saw a Hogwart's Express and several Freeing Dobby sets, but nothing else. Surprisingly, with the exception of the Hogwart's Castle, they seemed to have a lot of the larger sets. They also had a half full box of S3 minifigs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nice! I'm gonna get Slave 1 then At-At set!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@YellowCastle and Mr Timms - TRU did that to me at one I go to in Chicagoland. Told me the coupon was not for the figs (as I wanted to get one of the 4 sealed boxes of S3). Had another person actually scan the pack, and surprise, surprise, it was BOGO50. I do not think they were happy about it but the computer is always right, so I got them for, essentially, 2.99 per pack..

I think someone needs to report these practices of TRU to the BBB and/or Lego, because some of this stuff is insane.. remove product before a sale (although you would need to prove it, if you think a part timer will give up their job to rat out their company) Raising prices before a sale (which is supposed to be illegal, but maybe there is some legal way they do this) and this arbitrary limit policy from store to store...
I know that some stores do it to stop the people who take MAJOR advantage of these sales (like have family come with them to get multiple packs, or big sets, and also those who know how to maximize their value of the coupons) but this is ridiculous.. And I do not mean those who are just trying to get the figs for sets, I mean those who want to take the figs and put em on eBay or in their BL stores.

By in United States,

well i went back to toys r us in salem today with another coupon. i was just after a couple of smaller sets from the atlantis line, Seabed Strider. anyways shelfed at $9.99 and rang up 10.99. they sent over another employee to check, then confirmed quickly raised the price while i was there, and just like tuesday they would not allow me any more sets at $9.99 i woold have to pay $10.99 today for these (tuesday it was was a pharoahs quest set for $9.99 that they were charging $11.99) jut my 2 cents of the day

By in United States,

Personally I am not a big fan of buying my LEGOs from tru, I prefer Fred Meyer or LEGO store. I did get an email from my bank today that from now and dec 31 if you use your debit card as a credit card at babies r us or tru they will credit you 5% back on the following statement or 2. I bank with Chase.

@YellowCastle: I strongly disagree that this is "one of the best" sales ever. Here is a quick list that easily surpasses this current promotion:

1) Though technically not sales, from 2000 - 2006 Target's semi-annual clearance on Lego were so universally available at every store (in both stock and the regularity of the clearance level) that it was as good as a sale in my book.

30%-> 50% -> 75% stages on sets that spanned all themes. Some of the memorable ones were 75% Star Wars (Tantives, Tie bombers), all Harry Potter sets (4709!), Trains (My Own Train), Sculpture (Sopwith Camel).

I would run a circuit of 5 or 6 Targets and leave with shopping carts full of stuff that I didn't even remotely need.

2) Circa 2003, The Discovery Store made the decision to discontinue Lego sales, and so they discounted everything 50%. I bought dozens of 7163 Republic Gunships and 7153 Slave I's. They were pretty widely available for those in the know since it wasn't a well publicized sale.

3) Black Friday sales in years past: 4483 AT-AT $50 (TRU), 4504 Millennium Falcon $50 (Target), 6211 Imperial Star Destroyer $60 (Target), 7181 Tie Interceptor $30 (TRU)

Gravatar
By in United States,

@rocao - I'm never going to win anyone over, here. :o) Yes, I agree, that there have been good Black Friday deals in the past. But those are usually limited to 1 set per store. A good sale to me covers a plethora of sets so everyone can find something he/she likes. And no, I didn't consider Clearance events as sales. Last year, I happily picked up an AT-TE for $40, City Corner for $40, Imperial Fort for $25, etc. But those are really just the luck of the bounce. For me, these past couple of months have been the best Lego Sale months I've ever seen culminating in a couple of nice Amazon and TRU BOGO50% deals. :o) The online deals are the best, though, as you get a shot at some of the items only available direct like road plates, train tracks, etc. :o)

Gravatar
By in United States,

@YellowCastle: I never had the Black Friday sales enforce a limit, but I understand what you mean. I know clearances are hit and miss, but Target's really were good enough that I can honestly say trying to figure out how much cheaper a set at TRU BOGO 50% factoring in their markup is harder work.

Amazon's 25% off was amazing (much better than the change to BOGO 50%). It took me three different support calls and over an hour on the phone, but to get 25% already discounted prices (between 6%-37%) and not pay tax was the perfect storm of discounting this year.

Boscov's sale earlier this week with additional 10% off their already low (lower than amazon!) regular price, no tax, free shipping was also quite good.

Both better than TRU ;)
