Meet the 'Max' Mixels

Posted by ,

As I mentioned in the reviews of the Mixels sets last week, LEGO provides downloadable instructions for a number of combination models, including the 'Max' models built using parts from all three sets of the tribes.

To celebrate their official launch tomorrow, I've built all three and taken a few photos for you.

Infernites Max:

Mixels Max!

Mixels Max!

Cragsters Max:

Mixels Max!

Mixels Max!

Electroids Max:

Mixels Max!

Mixels Max!

All three were fun to build and all have some imaginative touches. The instructions were good, although they are presented on just one half of the screen so are not ideally formatted for viewing on a tablet, you need to zoom in on them.

I estimate that all three models use only a half- to two-thirds of the available parts so there's plenty of scope for customisation, should you desire.

Maybe we should have a Mixels building competition, either build a 'max' model from all three of one tribe or one from any two sets. What do you think?

I agreed with your assessment that the Cragsters were the weakest tribe in individual form but I think their Max fig is the best of the three Max models. Liking this theme more and more

He has a certain 'dopey' charm about him, doesn't he...

The electric one is wonderfully mental! The more I see of these guys the more I like them, I hope they're a huge success. And the max figure is a great excuse to buy at least 2 of each, eh!

The electric one is awesome but I don't think I can push myself to but another full set to build the maxes, I think a competition would be a great idea.

I think that either there should be a few of these contests (one for each wave and maybe a wave 1&2, 2&3, and 1&3) or one giant contest so that we are able to invovle all of the designs. I vote for both.

^there are actually instructions for two mixes and one murp in the downloads section. Wish they would provide instructions for all of them though...

I'd like a contest... I would have to disassemble that MOC I just made though...

Electroids Max is awesome. xD

The best is each of them seems to have ALL the powers of the tribe. That's a nice touch.

Thanks, Huw!

The Infernites Max is definitely my favourite, but I like the Cragsters Max with his Cookie-Monster head too.

I'm not really a fan of the Electroids Max...

Good timing with this article, I have just arrived home from work to find 9 Mixels waiting for me. Guess what I will be doing tonight....

I love the hinged mouths of the first two! The Cragsters Max reminds me of Cookie Monster from Sesame Street.

The Electroids Max is cool as well, but the back of his head makes him seem a bit less ideal to me than he looked in some earlier photos. It just doesn't mesh with the smooth curves of his face or the relatively simple slopes of his back.

I look forward to seeing what the "Maxes" of the other six tribes revealed at Toy Fair will be like!

Incidentally, how many parts are left over after building each of the three "Maxes"? One thing I know has been criticized within the Hero Factory building community about certain official combi models is that they don't often take full advantage of the parts at their disposal. Sometimes there are enough leftover parts to make a whole other figure!

By in United States,

I can't speak for the other two, but the Infernites Max had quite a few parts leftover, too many for my tastes. I had enough to add quite a few extra details to him.

I'll be buying the other two tribes this weekend, assuming my local LEGO store has any left!

I've yet to buy the cragsters tribe , but will get them tomorrow thanks to these pics.
A mixels building comp would be great .
I totally agree with your ea4lier remark that these tiny sets exemplify whats great about lego .
The boy loves them too.

By in Belgium,

So I went to the local toy shop (Bart Smit -- I'm in Belgium) and it seems they're not out here yet. Rather disappointing. Did notice they were selling the modular Town Hall, though.

I have all 9 mixels and planning to make a short stop action of the mixels turning into maxes :)

I really like the infernites and cragsters max, but not too keen on the electroids one... The arms are a bit too skinny and it just overall doesn't really appeal to me... Will still make it though ;)

I have all of the Mixels but I don't like the official Maxes. I've made my own and even drawn cartoon illustrations of them based off the TV Series style.

I built all three maxes last night and was quite disappointed with the HUGE amount of spares for all three. I was able to customize each one using just just the spare parts from each tribe to give the Infernites Max a sizable tail, give the Cragsters max a spinning head (which I thought would be easy but actually had to end up redesigning the whole thing) and the Electroids max a foot long tail

As I ripped apart the mixels to make the maxes i felt like SPOILER SPOILER LEGO MOVIE The Man Upstairs when he ripped apart the fire mech :) If anyone remembers that scene, the movie was so fast

I was disappointed with the extra parts, but then I decided that no, it's kind of awesome that there are more pieces, for customizing or extra building. I built Cragsters Max a little buddy with the extra pieces:

I see that when you built your cragsters max that you made the legs and arms symmetric/mirrored- I was a little sad that the instructions simplified it into 2x's so that the resulting model had two identical legs and two identical arms.

I just finished 'Maxing' all my Mixels and was surprised to find the Electroids one is my favorite. His face is just fantastic and the cheese slope greebling nicely implies scales.

Can't wait to see what I can build when I tear all of them apart and throw all the bits in a heap.

By in United States,

wonder what you could build with all 9 combined! lol
what is a Murp versus a Mix?
