25% off voucher for Toys R Us

Posted by ,

A couple of people have emailed to say there's a voucher available which'll give 25% off purchases over $50 of LEGO. It's valid today and tomorrow so if you still have stuff to buy after all the recent sales, get down there quick! (thanks Luke and bmwlego)

It also says you get a 'free limited edition minifigure with purchases over $30' Anyone know what that is?

The minifigure they say is kit 30005.

By in Canada,

OK -- I saw the pic of 30005 on the coupon but assumed they must be talking about something else given that's more than a minifigure.

By in United States,

If you read the sale from TRU, it says minifig with bonus vehicle. Pretty lame.

By in United States,

I saw an add and assumed that they meant the Collectible Minifigures.

By in United States,

the figure on the picture of the voucher is in fact the free minifigure offer. its a TRU exclusive Imperial Speeder Bike polybag that was being sold for $3.99. The voucher is only good for two days but the figure deal is part of their week long sale

By in United Kingdom,

I'm struck by how aggressive TRU are in the U.S. with respect to trying to win customers - BOGO 50% off deals, vouchers etc.

Compare and contrast with TRU in the UK who seem reluctant to give anything up without a fight ! I can recall one generously discounted TS 3 set in the past year and that's it - most of the time their discounts only bring the price in line with other retailers. A very poor show indeed, with only these rare deals and a couple of 'free minifig with purchases over £50' offers to show for their efforts.

Come on TRU UK - pull your fingers out and make us want to shop with you.

@DrDave - Great observation! Target and Walmart have really cut into TRU's core market for the last decade or so in the U.S. I don't recall a time when I've seen any retailer be as aggressive as TRU has but I guess since they lost a lot of market share in the past (I believe they even went bankrupt a few years ago and are now privately owned) TRU will not chance giving away market share again.
I’m starting to even believe that TRU sets their prices higher than most markets more so due to the cycle of product delivery rather than sheer profit. I belive they are betting you won’t buy items until the sale which will help them relieve inventory twice as fast during a cycle rather than price normally and wait for buyers to trickle in over a longer period of time. It’s quite smart actually because they have limited shelf space and it is far more efficient to clear limited space in one huge sale, replenish in one huge delivery (immediately after the sale) and focus on other sections of the store as they wait for another BOGO cycle. The mark up helps them deter huge loses but it clears out inventory on a regular, plentiful turnover. Smart!

The Star Wars mini set they are giving out, I was able to purchase last week at Toys-R-Us. For the $3.99 price of course. It does have 33 pieces and makes a great stocking stuffer.

I like this sale - I'm going to get an Airport if I can find one. Most of the "good" sets have been out at my TRU the last couple weeks with the good sales they've been having. Also hope they have some of the stormtroopers left to give out.

@ DrDave and copperwonder96 - I agree with you, TRU in the US does seem to have a lot more sales than elsewhere. I also believe it's due to higher competition in the US from Target & Walmart. Growing up, I remember getting a few sets from K-Mart, Target & Wal-mart, but remember LOVING my trips to Toys R Us, with their multiple aisles of Legos. Now the discount stores carry a much bigger selection...and a lot of what I really want is only available from the Lego Store, making TRU less important in the Lego world.

Well, we are in a MAJOR recessiobn, and I guess TRU wants to put out a pretty good deal. 25% off $50 or more in LEGOs? Pretty good.....

Gravatar
By in United States,

Best sale ever? :o)
Thanks so much to Huw for posting this as I have been out of pocket the last few days. :o)

By in United States,

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up: Amazon US is selling Prince of Persia 7572 for $24.00! All the other PoP are on sale too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think this IS the best sale ever for three specific Star Wars sets:
- Solar Sailor (TRU exclusive) reg $59.99 currently on sale for $35.99 and the 25% off stacks on top = $26.99
- Tie Defender reg $52.99 on sale for $31.79 less 25% = $23.84
- Separatists Shuttle reg $32.99 on sale for $19.79 less 25% = $14.84

PLUS the free Imperial Speeder Bike polybag if you're over $30, PLUS the 10% back TRU rewards. It's a holly jolly holiday miracle for Lego SW fans! I have no idea why just those 3 sets are on sale and at such good markdowns, but I was very happy to find them!

I got 2 Sailors + polybag early this morning, then hit another store later for Tie + Shuttle + polybag, both stores were surprisingly adequately stocked on everything. You'll probably have the best luck looking for the polybag in the Lego aisle (most likely hanging on the side of an end cap) and bringing it up with you rather than count on them having any at the registers. Good luck!

By in Canada,

Hopefully my parents will get my message in time! I just left a message on their hotel room phone (USA). Luckily they're in San Diego right now and they'll be able to print of the voucher at the Library! Thankyou Brickset!

By in United States,

TRU has a decent selection, but is ALWAYS overpriced! Taxes (at least where I live) are 10% plus TRU marks up prices by 10%, so their sales prices are basically break even with Lego's list prices. Amazon is much better (0% sales tax, free shipping and prices are lower than lego list prices on most sets).

I'm a capitalist at heart and give my money to the company that gives me the best prices and service (which is seldom TRU).

By in United States,

Wanted to use this coupon today but my TRU was sold out of the Solar Sailor. Looking to get the best deal possible. I'll head back tomorrow and check what else I might want. Great coupon that I'm glad others can take advantage of. Thanks Huw!

By in N/A,

Meh, 25% off is just enough to cover the markup and give a 5% discount. Pass.

By in United States,

Took advantage of this coupon. Pretty sweet that I was able to also get some of the S3. I pointed out to the lady at the counter that some of the bags had been opened. One of the baseball players was missing his bat and one of the gorillas was missing his head. Since I was so nice to tell her about it she allowed me to buy a total of 10 bags.

Come on people if you are going to break a bag open to take one piece take the whole thing. It makes no sense to me why people do this.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The "Popular BrickLists" list isn't working...

[Edit: well spotted: there is a reason for this which will become apparent in the new year -- Huw]

"Come on people if you are going to break a bag open to take one piece take the whole thing. It makes no sense to me why people do this. "

Maybe they were opened to see if they were a figure person A wanted. Then when person B rifled through them a few pieces fell out?

I found similar at Target after halloween, when everything was 50% off. I took the near empty box + bits + still closed bags to the register. The lady said shall I throw these bits away? I asked if I could have them and she gave them to me.

By in United States,

Sorry to be off topic; I stopped by the Lego store last night in Tyson's Corner VA, and received 10% off my purchase, which is not much compared to the discounts at TRU, but they have some sets that aren't available elsewhere if anyone is still looking for a Lego exclusive set. The store employee indicated that it wasn't an advertised sale and did not know when it would end.

By in United States,

@MCN - Definite plus for anyone looking at the Direct sets such as the Castle battlepacks , road plates, etc. And I'm not sure if they still have them, but the PAB boxes are a great add-on to orders over $75!

@AZFIREWOLF - I also visited TRU today during lunch and they were stock full of pretty much all the normal sets, some new Police and Pharaoh, 5 boxes of S3 figs, and just one Harry Potter set...Hogwarts. And as usual, I ended up leaving relatively light with just a large baseplate, a couple of smaller sets for Toys for Tots, and two impulse wizards that are apparently discontinued?

@bionicleboy - most TRU markups these days on Lego sets are in the 5% to 10% range. So, the 25% coupon plus the 10% back for Rewards Members and the Stormtrooper polybag make this a pretty nice sale. The coupon worked like a charm. If only I had remembered to ask for my Stormtrooper polybag :o(

@Ypres - there's a very nice TRU in San Diego just off of Morena Blvd in Mission Valley so here's hoping they have some luck shopping! Make sure they visit the San Diego Wild Animal Park and Sea World, though! :o)

@neoroark - The deals on the Sailor and Defender were unreal. But for some reason, neither set grabs me, though I do love the Grievous guards. Maybe I'll change my mind tomorrow. ;o)

By in United States,

As neoroark posted, I just picked up two Tie Defenders (8087) for $23.84 each and got the free speeder bike! Many thanks again to Brickset!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@neoroark
Thanks for the heads up on the sets you suggested. Going to pick up all 3. And throw 1 more polybag 30005 on the heap 67 in total :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Picked up the solar sailer and Tie for $50! The receipt says a savings of $67! Sweeeet!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hit my local TRU yesterday (12-14-10), but never saw anything advertizing the coupon. But, I did see all of the Pharaoh's Quest sets, some of the 2011 Atlantis, I think a couple city, the Toys 'R' Us LEGO deliver truck, and a good amount of impulse sets. I got the Imperial bike and the 2 smallest PQ sets.

Merry CHRISTmas!

By in United States,

The coupon is available on their website under daily deals.

By in United States,

Seems no one has mentioned this. If you live in Phoenix you can use the following coupons together in your purchase.
If you are looking for 7208 (Fire Station) you can print the coupon out from Target.com and then use either the $3 or the $5 from Fresh and Easy. Go to your local Fry's Food that sells Lego products and you get this set for $15 below MSRP.

Not a bad savings. Especially since the fire station is sold out at Target, the 2 TRUs that I went to and you can't get them delivered to you by LSH unless you want to pay for express shipping.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I got the City Corner today for around $45. I didn't notice a markup though, it was $59.99, same as Lego Shop. I got the free poly bag but gave it to a co-worker's son.

By in United States,

The TRU in Chicago was out of polybags...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Will the Series3 figs work the 25% off coupon?

Gravatar
By in United States,

This deal is much better than the BOGO 50% off since there's no need to worry about matching prices. I went in, bought what I really wanted and didn't have to play the price matching game to figure out the best deal. Straight up 25% off is the way to go. I hope TRU does this again. My store (Erie, PA) was out of the free poly bag set, but the selection of available sets was pretty good. I got a couple of Pharaoh's Quest and Atlantis sets for myself, and a few other sets (city, toy story, world racers and a S3 minifig) as gifts for some of my nephews. Since this was a coupon and not a sale shown in the weekly ad, there were less people crowding the aisle and the shelves were well stocked. Now if we can just get TRU to bring their prices down a little...

Gravatar
By in N/A,

That's good. They would use to mark them up about 17-20% at my nearest, which drove me to never shop there. Thanks for the heads up :).

By in United States,

Okay folks, I've been pushed to the brink to comment and create awareness after wasting my time for the 2nd time in the past week:

If you shop in the Northern Virginia area Toys R Us - you need to be aware that at least one of the TRU's in the area (I'm talking specifically about the Bailey Crossroads store) has taken the markups to obscene levels - 20% and higher.

Other TRU's in the area, Sterling, Manassas, Springfield, Woodbridge, Fair Lakes keep it to the typical TRU 10% - but for some reason Bailey's Crossroads has gone overboard.

Some examples:
The new Police HQ set (7498): LEGO Retail $99.99; Typical TRU Markup: $110.99; Bailey's: $120.99
The Police Boat (7287): LEGO Retail $39.99; Typical TRU Markup: $42.99; Bailey's: $46.99
Scorpian Pyramid (7327): $99.99; $110.99; $120.99
I didn't look much beyond these sets, and they are meant to just be examples..

Bottom line - I suggest you call the store and advise them that you will not be buying any LEGO from that location until they bring their prices back in line with the other stores in the area.

By in United States,

I used the coupon/voucher for TRU and it was great getting 25% off and yes the Stormtrooper on Speeder bike (30005) was the free Minifig that was included. The requirement for it to be over $50, made the requirement to buy either a large set or two of something and TRUs shelves were pretty picked bare by yesterday... bonus was that Kansas City finally got Series 3 minifigs in so I picked up a few of those and got 25% off the entire purchase!

By in United States,

MCNwakeboard's ... thank you for posting that lego stores were having an 10% unadvertised sale. Because of your post, I called them to double check. I went to my closest store, which is about 40 minutes away, and bought the new police set #7498. It was $99.99 and I had $15 in VIP dollars so I was able to get the set for $75 plus tax.
Thanks. One FYI though, when I went to pay for it the girl said that it was officially that if you bought $100 worth of legos that you would get the 10% discount...so just an fyi that you should call your local store before you go to confirm the discount. They also gave me a little box that can be used after christmas to use. You bring it back and you can fill it with free bricks from the brick parts wall. It is a very small box, but still a nice gesture.
