Pictures from the German toy fair

Posted by ,

As predicted, photos (and videos) have emerged on an Austrian site from the German toy fair, showing Alien Conquest, Ninjago, Kingdoms and more. Unfortunately it looks as if the person who took them didn't know what was new and what was already available since the gallery also includes Atlantis and Pharaoh's Quest, but there are nevertheless some reasonably good shots to give you an idea of what's coming.

Thanks to Toys N Bricks for the news, who also have a gallery of series 5 figs taken at the fair.

By in United Kingdom,

I've been looking forward to seeing images of series 5 minifigures! Though, no new colour packet; unless that blue is just a prototype.

The videos still don't explain how the Alien Conquest abduction function works, though... But that mothership just looks AWESOME.

AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!! That's a happy yell and an angry one. Personally, I think the alien conquest minifigs are better than series five. So many poor ideas! Another stupid snowboarder! However the graduate is pretty cool as is the guard.

If you look at the series four packaging, it is the same as the other series, but series 5 are as stiff as cardboard! I hope they're a prototype otherwise, no feeling them out! Plus the colour is the same as series 2.

Please!!! Someone find the HP pics!!!

By in United States,

Nice figures. I'm a little disappointed that there aren't many sci-fi-ish figs as there have been in sets 1 and 3. I suppose I'll get the guy-in-a-godzilla-suit figure. It's definitely interesting to see how they're doing figures to compliment figures from prior sets.

The Alien 'mothership' looks, and sounds, awesome. The Human command vehicle doesn't look as neat, but is definitely packed with play features. Wish they had one of the tripods built for the show. That's the set I'm most interested in.

By in United Kingdom,

Lego must be running out of ideas for new minifigs - another snowboarder, another skater and that woman in pink holding a boom box looks a lot like the popstar from series 2.
It doesn't make sense to do another blue packet when red and purple haven't been used yet so it must be a prototype colour?
The alien conquest looks awsome and that ninjago building with the fire drago looks great too. Hadn't seen heroica before - I never expected there to be theme in the LEGO games.
I like the new guns which the astronauts have in alien conquest and the baby alien thing is quite funny.
LEGO in 2011 is great!

By in France,

The Castle stuff looks lovely - the mill (7189) is great, so too the gate (7187), as also is the blacksmith attack (6918) - in that picture the knight attacking him reminds me of Python's black knight - "none shall pass!" ;)

By in New Zealand,

Little doubt the series 5 gladiator will be the "spartan" of series 5. The completest in me will ensure I have at least one full set:-)
Must agree with lemaskdemasque though; excellent alien figures that make me ask again why we had to endure a squidee head in the series 3 figures? For these comparatively expensive figures - a cheap option on this head. Tut tut.
Ninjago looks great, and I'm not even into the theme, but the Dragon building looks very buyable....
But Kingdoms wins it for me. And I don't have any of the earlier sets. Goats, chickens, peasants, buckets!! Oh ho ho!

By in United Kingdom,

Great find! Those are good, minifigs 5 look good but is the Millennium Falcon the ultimate one? Because that looks exactly like the old instead of the new one. And did anyone else notice in the SW video that the engines on the Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship were on backwards?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It is very annoying, if you look at the video where they show you the Bounty Hunter Gunship, there (just to the right of the screen) are the four Minifigures from the 2011 Sith Infiltrator, why won't you show us those sets!!!

Anyway, Alien Conquest looks interesting, I love the return to the classic blue and trans-yellow but the real winner is the big blue Clone Turbo Tank looking thing, very nice, very nice indeed. I also really like the new Kingdoms sets, especially the Mill and surprisingly the King's Carriage Ambush, much better than the older fantasy era King's Battle Chariot. The Ninjago sets look decent, I like the Fire Temple, but I could really take or leave the Skull Truck, there is just something not there...

By in New Zealand,

Series 5 rocks.. Cleopatra, gangster with violin case, the graduate, rubber monster suit, palace guard, gladiator- equal to series 4 I think. The Collectable sets are getting better with each release. Good work TLG!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Aww, no Technic photos. Still, the alien conquest stuff looks really good, easily the best Space theme in a while.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Millennium Falcon is the UCS one rather than the new release. Now if they decide to re-release the UCS version that would be news.

By in Denmark,

Series 5 looks good, more interesting figures than in the earlier series, though still some figures seems like "fill" to make 16 in total, but nothing new to that.

For anyone interested, the top left Figure seems to be a soldier from the danish "livgarde"(a branch of the military that primarily has to protect the royal family, but also participates in actual war).

Overall some good new ideas, am i the only one loving how each new series complements some of the figures from the earlier series?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@KeeZor - I think the figure at the top left is actually meant to be a Buckingham Palace guard (you know, the ones who have to stand still and you often see tourists trying to make them move).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@CapnRex101 - Yes, I believe they are called beefeaters, or something along those lines.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

In the series 5 figures, is that lady with the banana feeding a Baby Gorilla!!?! Awesome!! :)

Gravatar
By in Israel,

If LEGO doesn't have any better ideas, then they should stop making more series. They're going to milk this cash cow until its dead. I do like the baby gorilla and the pie.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@KeeZor - my take on the S5 soldier was that he's supposed to be from one of the 'Foot Guard' regiments of the UK army (Coldstream Guards, Grenadier Guards, Scots Guards, Irish Guards, Welsh Guards), who all share the same basic uniform - very, very dark blue trousers (so dark it's hard to tell the difference from black!), scarlet red tunic with a white belt, black 'bear skin' helmet. Like the Livgarde, they have ceremonial responsibilities, as well as providing protection to the Royal family & front-line warfighting duties. In the UK, the 'Foot Guard' share the ceremonial & Royal protection duties with the 'Household Cavalry' (one regiment of which is also called the 'Lifeguards').

There are other regiments around the world that have a similar uniform and wear a 'bear skin' helmet, so it's probably best to think of him as a generic ceremonial guard. That's what I'll be doing :-)

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Looks like there running out of fresh ideas for the collectible figures to me, some are very very similar to previous figs. I do like how the series 1 caveman gets a girlfriend though.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Kingdoms Rules.
And CLEOPATRA out of minifig series 5 to complete the great Pharao's line. I already can see MOCs, MOCs, MOCs ...
And a Croco-Monster reminding me of a very early Enterprise-episode - but where is Capt. James T. Kirk?
There seems to be a new small monkey and a second clown with a new pie-piece.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Anyone have any idea who the guy in the red cap and shirt is?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The Alien Conquest line looks pretty good. The series 5 mini-figures are very disappointing. It's almost as if LEGO is running out of ideas for these. They don't look as good as previous series. Admittedly the photo quality is not great so maybe they'll be more impressive when better photos are available. So far, I'm only interested in the ice fisherman, royal guard, troll, man in black and maybe the dinosaur (since it reminds me of the Gorn from Star Trek).

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Why are you guys getting so hung up on Series 5? Sure, they might not be perfect, but to be honest the only thing I'm bothered about is the images being released so early. In my opinion Alien Conquest, NinjaGo, and Kingdoms are doing it for me - as well as that awesome new LEGO game. I love the mothership's pieces and the features look fabulous. I've just fallen in love with that whole line, and NinjaGo isn't half bad either, especially that new asian styled temple, which is tempting my wallet. And of course the Windmill form Kingdoms - we're spoilt for choice! Well in my personal opinion here's what I'll have my eye on from first to last:

1. Mothership
2. Kingdom's courtyard windmill
3. Alien Conquest blue truck mobile thing
4. NinjaGo palace place
5. New big LEGO game.
6. Any smaller Alien Conquest set

So I have a lot to be saving for when I go to billund in may!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Wow. These series 5 figures are decidedly macabre. Cleopatra comes with a snake? :( And that's not even talking about the mobster (!).

OTOH -- THERE'S A TINY LITTLE MONKEY PIECE! Much love for the Zoo employee, and the Dinosaur guy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

No Harry Potter or CITY? How dissapointing! And CITY was obviously there judging by that giant rocket display!

P.S. There are some pictures of STAR WARS figures over on Eurobricks. Just scroll down the home page a little.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@brixton and AlterBrick, Vienna, Austria , same thing came to mind about Godzilla. Funny that i was watching that very Star Trek this morning. For anyone who wants to know the name of the episode its Arena.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

@LegoCoastGuard I think that guy is a lumberjack, with an axe to chop timber, I was trying to figure out who he was too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE some HP pics! And omg in Series 5 a paintable bowler hat for Cornelius Fudge!!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

*jaw drop*
Me very much likey ze mothaship! :D
Sound effect is neat and the Earth Defence HQ (official preliminary name) is just as awesome.
Too bad they left out the UFO Abduction, Tripod Invader and Jet-Copter Encounter. I'm very looking forward to see them. And PLEASE somebody post some links!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

We've seem trans clear visors at previous Toy Fairs & prelim shots ... they've always transformed into smoke/trans black by the time the sets are released. Leys hope that this time they aren't just teasing us ;-)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@bluemoose: Ah. :( So that's where legoloverman (Pete Reid) gets his trans clear visors... :)

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Looking at those figures again, I think the Ceremonial Guard will be the Spartan of the series - imagine having about 12 of them, it'll be like having a set of tin soldiers, except this time in Lego! :)

The conquistador/gladiator will be highly popular too as an army builder, probably as popular or maybe in even more demand than the ceremonial guard, though in my opinion the guard is the best. Probably going to depend on numbers in the box - if there's 5 guards to a box and only 3 gladiators, the gladiators will be the ones the collectors want more.

I also love the boxer, the gloves are awesome, gonna need a few of them. The dinosaur/lizard suit guy is also full of win - I like the Star Trek comparisons some of you have made! :) Didn't like the female explorer/zoo keeper much until I realised that a small gorilla/baby monkey was in front of her, going to need a few of them for a jungle set! And the cavewoman looks brill too!

A few disappointments for some of the rest, but that's probably because expectations were higher after the appearance of series 4 pictures. I wish there was a new musician, thought the gangster was one at first, with the brilliant violin case (I wonder what the chances are of there being a tiny violin inside?). A jazz musician like a saxophonist would be amazing, maybe in a future series, hopefully. I'm probably most disappointed in the 80s girl with the pink ghetto blaster, they could have at least given us a different colour hair from the series 2 pop singer! C'mon Lego! Ah no, I'm not giving out, they're all amazing in their own way, I'm so glad the minifigures keep coming, the more the merrier! I wonder if they'll be out by August? Going to have to set aside some more money...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Guys, good news: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=44510&st=6210&p=919064&#entry919064 It looks like Quinlan Vos WILL eventually appear in a Star Wars set! Remember, in the preliminary pictures for January 2011, he was expected to appear last month; instead, we got yet another Anakin!

EDIT: Hey, is Savage Opress a clone of Darth Maul (or vice-versa)? Because he/she looks similar to him, and has got a double-bladed lightsabre, like Maul!

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

The new Luke Skywalker hair is Fantastic! :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Alemas - the trans clear visors that Pete, I & others have mostly came from a bricklink seller ('MAGICBRICKS') ... they are very expensive.

Getting off topic here, but Savage Opress is from the same species as Darth Maul. Saying anything more would be a spoiler ...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@bluemoose: Ok, thanks! :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I've already asked this question further up; first comment, I think. Though, just a reminder - anyone know how that awesome abduction function works? I'm hoping it's not going to be some odd claw that extends and clutches the minifigure, or just some ridiculous light. Although, anything to do with magnets is gonna intrigue me...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

anyone else think that the collectable minifigs are getting a little unintresting now?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hey, I just joined Brickset yesterday. Anyways, Alien Conquest is looking a bit better then I expected. I wasn't too sure on the 50s invasion style at first, but they actually look fairly good. That blue command center is easily my top priority set this year! The minifigures for AQ also look pretty good and detailed. Series 5 is just kinda meh, nothing really jumps out at me. Though, for the boxing gloves, do they clip on to minifig hands, or are they a new hand mold that attaches directly to the arm?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The snowboard is lame, we need another cheerleader. However overall the series looks great.
Love the alien theme. Very cool.

Gravatar
By in United States,

On Flickr if you look up Lego Star Wars 2011 it shows all the new figures. It DOES NOT say confidential on them either.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

@CapnRex101 & Bluemoose - i was not aware that uniform scheme were used in several countries, and truly it could be any of the suggested. Thank you for pointing out that there are other possibilities :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

SERIES 5 WILL BE FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@carding Yeah, I agree but I think the most disappointing is the 80's girl in pink - she may as well be the series 2 popstar holding a boom box instead of a microphone

Gravatar
By in United States,

.... wow don't know about u guys but HUGE disappointment from series 5. they are really running out of ideas i mean another fisherman, clown, snowboarder, dwarf, gladiator, and adventurer woman. I actually like the sherlock holmes and graduate guy.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Any price given for the NinjaGo temple?

Gravatar
By in France,

@Berrybrick: The only small pics of City is behind the giant rocket on the picture of the right of the page link.
We can see a small part of the new cargo box. Green boat looks awesome. Oo

Gravatar
By in United States,

in which video are you seeing the kingdoms sets? I watched them all through to no avail< i want to see some goat action!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Tommyo3000: I think the other fisherman is actually an Inuit. He could have come with a husky though :(

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Alien Conquest looks amazing , That Ninja go fortress looks impressive and series four minigifs looks really good but series 5 looks a little lacking. Too repetitive , same colour box as series 2 and I sure do not hope that they have changed the packaging to cradboard overlise there is no chance of finding the one you want.

It's a shame the person filming couldn't have showed us the newer star wars and city sets as well as more alien conquest. Hero factory looks very lackluster too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think they could have done a better job on Series 5. The Collectible Minifigures's faces always seem to have huge/very opened mouths. It just isn't realistic. The Elf from 8804 looked good, other than having short hair (It is unusual for an elf to have short hair). The Dwarf from 8805 is okay. I'm not interested in buying the minifigures from 8805. If they come up with a Series 6, I hope the minifigures would look better than the previous Collectible Minifigures.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

@fluffycat0509 Hmm, yes it's very unusual, every elf I've met always had long hair. ;)

I love the way the Lizard/Dinosaur guy has a tail, you can see it in the video for a brief moment, definitely getting a few of them to fight against the Gorilla suit guy - King Kong versus Godzilla!! :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

The alien mothersip looks huge, it is so a must have. The alien commander also looks amazing!(eat your heart out squid warrior) :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ok, am i the only one that doesn't find the AQ sets that great?! I actually don't like the minifigs, to be honest. The only thing i like from AQ is the brainsucker.

Also, i think series 5 looks great!! Sure, there's a few re-makes, but the other, new ones make up for the re-makes!!! :) i love the graduate, the cavegirl, dino suit guy, cleopatra, clown and guard. The boxer and the lumberjack are coolio too!! P.s. The '80's girl' is a fitness trainer, i believe. I hope a ghost comes with series 6 or something!!

Lastly, where are the HP?!?!?! I need some pics!!!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Okay this is Awesome! My opnion:
1. The Cavewoman looks almost exactley like Wilma from the classic 1960's cartoon The Flintstones.
2. Cleopartra come with a snake because she supposedley died from an suicide by Snake. (In case your wondering, that snake was an Asp, and was delivered to her by her hand-maidens in a basket of dates. But I'm getting off topic.)
3. The Godzilla suit guy would be good in a mirco scale city against the Gorrila suit guy.
4. Detective would be Sherlock Holmes, of course.
5. The lumberjack could be used in a certain Monty Python sketch...
6. About the Clown: FINALLY! A Bowler hat! Now all I need is a black one to make Charlie Chaplin!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Alien Conquest looks pretty good. That Jeep looks cool.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I'm loving the new Star Wars figs. That new Luke hair is brilliant. And new Jedi knights! The forehead guy, and Eeth look great! I don't know who the Vos person is, but they seem lovely :).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hey!!! I found a page that shows all the new starwars, creator, harbor, AQ, PoC, cars, technic, and kingdoms sets!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The lack of any HP news from this Toy Fair is rather disappointing. Hopefully the New York Toy Fair provides like last years did...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Rats, no Cars photos! Kingdoms looks great however, and I'll definitely be picking up 7188 King's Carriage Ambush if my wallet isn't hurt too badly by the Cars sets...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

...ooh, just saw a preliminary pic of 8487 Flo's V8 Cafe. It looks great but also very expensive and it looks as if 7188 is out of the question.

Gravatar
By in United States,

When is the New York toy fair?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I like the Kingdoms farm set, and the Heroica board game looks like it will be fun. I don't like those new dark chrome weapons that come with it though, they look a bit too Megablocks-esque...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Berrybrick said = "When is the New York Toy Fair"

Google is your friend ... but to save you the effort, it runs 13th-16th Feb. It is not open to the general public. In order to gain entry you have to be pre-registered & you have to be able to prove that you are involved in the toy industry, have an invitation from an exhibitor, or be a registered member of the press. On top of that, no one under 18 is allowed in.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^I don't trust Google all that much anymore. After trying to save an image of five 2011 Hero Factory sets (in the Fall of '10) my computer claimed that it detected a virus at that moment.

Gravatar
By in United States,

In all honesty, I think Series 5 looks terrible! There's so many remakes, you can't even feel for the figures anymore, and the rest are just kinda meh.

On the other hand, Alien Conquest looks great. Those will be at the top of my list this year with City and Kingdoms.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I'm trying to figure out where I'm going to put all the stuff I want to buy. Two Alien Conquest sets, series 4 minifigures, Hillside House and the Marina. That's just from 2011. I still want to pick up the Grand Emporium and the new police station.

Gravatar
By in United States,

R4-G9-Thank you, Thank You, Thank You. . . !

Gravatar
By in United States,

@r4-g9, I was just about to put the link for the HP pics!!! Well, I'm personally VERY excited about the Battle of Hogwarts set!!! NEVILLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a bit surprised to see Goyle in the set, though. Not angry, just surprised!! :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Series 5 packets ARE different colored. I looked at some of the Series 2 packets that I have and they're DARK blue. The Series 5 packets in the video are LIGHT blue. They're trying to squeeze in more colors, which means more series. They have red, dark green, and purple left. That means there'll be a Series 6, 7, and 8.
I know they're trying to fill any possible gaps in ideas they might have with slight modifications of previously done things. But hey, I like all the new parts they come with. They'll probably come out with someone with a black bowler hat in Series 6, since they have a clown with a blue one in Series 5. Like how the clown's red afro in Series 1 was black on the Disco Guy's hair in Series 2.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

@ R4-G9 - Oh wow, I'd already seen a catalog pic of that Cars set but this is way bigger and gives me a way better look. I can only reiterate what Berrybrick said: "Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou!".

Gravatar
By in Australia,

@spency13 - I agree with you - the Alien Conquest sets I find to be underwhelming and I think I'll give them a miss. This is actually a good thing as it will cut down my Lego expenditure this year.

@R4-G9 - thanks for the links! Don't know about everyone else but I'm rather disappointed by the Battle of Hogwarts set. Pleased that Prof. Sprout is included, but it's a lot smaller than I expected, which hopefully will mean that it won't cost too much.

As for series 5, there are some nice minfigs there but as many others have already pointed out, it does seem like TLG is running out of ideas - many if these so called "unique figures" are no longer unique IMO. And if it's true and Lego have actually packaged them with stiff cardboard so that you can't even feel for them anymore, then count me out. I like the idea of this series. but there's no way I'm spending $5 per figure if I don't know what I'm getting. That's really mean and poor PR on Lego's part.

Definitely am looking forward to (and must haves for me)
Star Wars - Millennium Falcon, Republic Frigate
PotC - Queen Anne's Revenge and possibly Black Pearl depending on preliminary images
Harry Potter - Battle of Hogwarts (despite my disappointment - big HP fan!), Forbidden Forest
Ninjago - Fire Temple, Blacksmiths Shop
Kingdoms - The Mill, King's Carriage Ambush

So in all, it's going to be a very expensive year. Thanks again to everyone for providing these images! Much appreciated!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think they should make more castle minifigures. They made a dwarf and an elf in Collectible Minifigures. I wonder if they would ever make Lord of the Rings minifigures. That would be cool. I'm interested in Castle and Pirate legos.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So are these pics being "leaked" by a Lego employee?
