Exo-Force joins the new Minifig Gallery

Posted by ,

As correctly guessed by Berrybrick yesterday, today's minifig gallery is indeed Exo-Force.

I really liked the theme and the minifigs and it's great to see them all lined up by character in the gallery. I didn't have Hitomi because I didn't like the set she came in but I BrickLinked [1] her, and she arrived in the week, so the gallery, and my collection, is now complete.

[1] is that becoming a verb like 'Googled'?

Update: I've also just added Aquazone which was another of my favourite themes. The original sets from 1995 were the first minifig sets I bought (as opposed to Technic) on emerging from my dark ages. Clearly that was a slippery slope as I now have 1500+ minifig sets and 2500 minifigs :-)

Exo-Force was a great theme, one I really enjoyed too. Lots of new parts/colours, interesting building techniques and an great back-story. The sets were pretty affordable too ...

I've just done a bit of digging, and the Exo-Force mini-site still exists on lego.com - http://exoforce.lego.com/en-gb/default.aspx - and includes all of the combo and alternate model instructions; some of the instructions could be clearer, but many of the models are very good. My favourite is the 'Nova Crawler', built from the yellow 'Supernova' mech; instructions can be seen here -

Thanks, never a huge fan of Exo-force just because I wasn't as into LEGO back then, but I wish I had all the minifigs! And yes, Huw, Bricklinked is definitely a new verb. And perhaps Bricksetted, as well, because I know I search on here all the time!

Awesome gallery! I loved Exo-Force for a long time, so much so that I ordered all 6 of the 2007 sets after I won a LEGO Club contest. I dismembered the sets after my interest in Exo-Force waned, although I did it with teary eyes. Ahhh, those were good times! Good work!

By in Germany,

Uh, Huw, where are the axles in the robots that should have them?... Some of the robots had a red axle in the head!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Oh, Huw, yesterday the site, during the evening, always timed-out; what happened?

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Cool! I never liked Exo-force. What was it about? (Don't answer that question.) Oh well. We'll see what gallery comes next!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Great! What's next?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

^^^^ They are in the head but when photographed head on like that they don't show.

By in United Kingdom,

I had all of the original Exo-force sets and the great figs. I stood them on top of one of the radiators in my house but once they all fell off and all the peices disappeared under the sofa :( I still have all the figs bodies but not the manga heads or funky hair-dos.

By in United Kingdom,

Why is the guy with black hair listed as Ryo? He's clearly a different character, in the same outfit. :|

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ I think the guy with black hair is actually hitomi before she was mentioned. she has the same hair and the face looks a bit similar.

Gravatar
By in United States,

No, you guys are wrong. The guy withe the Black hair is a different character named Genki.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

GReat again! By the way, Meca one appears in 7707 Striking Venom. I have it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I never thought Exo-force got the credit it deserved. The hair was the only original thing about the mini figs, but the sets incorporated the manga / tech machine theme very well.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

^ Bricklink names the guy with the black hair Ryo, but given that he appears in the tank set along with Ryo in purple hair he must be someone else. I've called him unknown for now, until we find out what his name really is.

Huw, quick question: Could be the Aquazone visors be flipped open like normal visors? Or were they fixed?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

They could be flipped up.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@Huw: Ok, thanks! :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Huw I think the Black Haired Guy is just an engineer as in the comics in one of the scences they had that person working on a mech and i also think he is as he has the same outfit as ryo and ryo was an engineer.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Huw, where/how do you store that many sets/minifigs/Lego parts? Do you have a ***huge*** Lego room? Just curious as I struggle for space with my relatively small Lego collection.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I love Exo Force, thanks for this!

By in Bolivia,

fff: Striking venom was only supposed to have the top half of Meca-one but due to messed up advertizing mistakes, the box showed meca-one in the first batches. It seems that TLG fixed the mistake and included the golden legs in later batches. So officially, Meca-one is included in that set.

But if you, like I just did, buy a MISB Striking Venom , there are no guarantees you will get the golden legs (I didn't). So, maybe it is not good to include the minifig in the set's list as to not give false hopes.

I did however, ask customer support's page for two replacement golden legs. The legs appear in the LEGO site inventory, and I didn't receive any message indicating me that the legs are no longer available for orders, so maybe I will receive the legs soon.

I had no idea there was a female Exo-force pilot. Kind of funny she is only in that set ... So, I guess the only female minifig in exo-force stays inside a house ... :/

Edit: My intention was to make that last line link to tvtropes' UnfortunateImplications page, but anchor tag is not available.

Huw I'm not in the UK please help! The website says I'm in the UK but I'm not!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

^ It should be OK now

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have the the purple, blue, and black hair to these guys but that's all. I got them on customs in a trade.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I too love Aquazone and Exoforce was a theme that was different and should have continued.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ya know somethin'? I think Huw needs a big thank-you for taking his personal time to do this, besides all the other work he does on this site.
*claps loudly*
Anyway, they look awesome.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Berrybrick, you knew what it was? Fantastic, you're on the main page of Brickset. Hey, are you the Berrybrick from wikia?

Gravatar
By in Bolivia,

I think Atlantis will/should be next. More of a should actually, I just think it is the first theme that comes to my mind that has cool minifigures, is finished and thus no more figures will need to be added and is not in the gallery yet.

By in Australia,

I adored Exo-Force, you know. I'm a sucker for giant robots -- always have been, and always will be -- and there were some amazing and brilliant designs. I have a softspot for Supernova (which I had to import, because I never found it in Australia), but the jungle sub-theme had a whole bunch of really brilliant robots.

Plus, the giant spikey anime multi-coloured minifig hair pieces. Those were just epic win, you know, they really were.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Huw, you're my friend :)

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Not a fan of Exo-Force but I have the hair used on Ha-Ya-To. Haven't a clue how I got it...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Exo-force was the theme that officially got me out of my dark age. We were on holiday, and my wife was expecting our first child. She was so tired, she slept all the time.

As a result, I bought two mechs of the first wave to entertain me,'and haven't stopped buying Lego since!

Gravatar
By in Spain,

@vexorian: thanks for the answer... now i see i was lucky ... :-O
I hope you receive the legs, meca one is great in golden-yellow

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Aquazone! Great! Not only will we have astounding galleries to look at, but all the sets themselves will also have better minifig pictures!
It's a shame that we are missing some Star Wars minifigs, and that you are busy with something, Huw.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

what is the difference between the two versions of the silver and copper robots? I have nearly all of the sets, and I never noticed a difference.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

About the series: I really dug it, though the first batch was significantly better than the later ones. They also offered superior value due to combined models and alternative models for many sets. Especially the larger robot sets suffered a lack of atriculation (Looking at you Bridgewalker!!). And lets face it, 8108 Mobile devastator is one ugly set, with only points for the macabre bowls with a skeleton, which my admittedly sick imagination interpreted as 'fuel cells' for the vehicle.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the Aquazone one too, I agree that it would be cool if all of that underwater stuff like Atlantis was added to the Aquazone page. Id like to see the same with Space.

Gravatar
By in United States,

LEGO_Lord: Who else would be able to come up with and would use a username like that?

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have the name of the Black hair engineer, and I listed it above, thanks for noticeing :(
His name is Genki, its n the comics, mention at least once of twice.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Why did they have yellow heads, when they were Brand name Lego sets, they were after the colour change, and in the comic they were skin coloured?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Honestly, I am not interested in Exo-Force Minifigures.

Gravatar
By in Bolivia,

rslotb: Well, some silver robots have trans-colored torsos. Then the two kinds of copper robots are different in that some have 'red eyes' (a red technic size 2 cross) and others do not have that piece (most likely, they are attached to something in the set). I think some silver robots also do not have the 'eyes' so they also count as a different fig.

Swoft~: all non-licensed sets use yellow minifigs, and I hope it stays that way. Minifigs are supposed to be race-neutral. I don't know why they didn't color them in yellow in the comics, actually I am not sure why they didn't have minifig shape in the comics, I think I would have actually liked the comics if they did.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Vexorian: This was a licensed theme, it was a cartoon show on Cartoo Network, plus it was after the colour change.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

^ No, LEGO made the cartoons, or had them comissioned. Exo-Force is LEGO's intellectual property.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Oh, thank you for setting me straight.
