The signed Fairground Mixer competition has now ended and a winner has been selected!

There were 5196 entries in total and, interestingly, more people got the answer wrong than right. There were just 2185 correct answers.

The question was who the lead designer of the 2009 set 10196 Grand Carousel. The correct answer is C. Steen Sig Andersen.

BrickJournal issue 7 contained an interview with Steen about the design process. Steen was the main designer, although he did have input from others, including Jamie Berard, who came up with the idea originally and pointed out that 'Americans are crazy about such things'. Judging by the success of the set, its value in the aftermarket and the fact that another fairground ride has been made, it appears that he was right.

I did manage to find the answer using Google but I can't remember what I searched for now!

To pick the winner I've just run an SQL script to pick a correct entry at random [*]

The winner is...

Filip George who's in Belgium

Congratulations Filip, I'll be in touch to get your address.

Stay tuned for more exciting competitions: once Mixels series 2 are more widely available in a few weeks' time I'll run another building competition.

By in Netherlands,

I did manage to find the corret awnser. But it took me a really really long time to google find it. Nice to know my changes of winning were actually better than I anticipated.
Filip congrats!

Funny detail: Steen is actually the Dutch word for brick. So as a LEGO designer he has a very apropiate name

By in United States,

I bet a lot of people (myself included) didn't read closely and guessed the designer of the mixer...

By in United Kingdom,

Took me 2 mins to find the right answer googling 'Lego Grand Carousel' and each of the options in turn.

By in United States,

Hey, at least I got it right! I actually used the bricklists on this website to come up with an educated guess. :-)

Oh, and congratulations to Filip! :-)

By in Serbia,

I misread the question, and thought is it that easy? I gave the answer to the creator of Mixer... yeah... misread or didn't read... anyway, bravo Filip

By in United States,

Shucks!

Congratulations though. I doubt I'll buy this set, but I'd take one for free any day of the week.

I actually found the answer on Eurobricks. Jamie himself discussed this set and said he wasn't the lead designer like a lot of people thought.

By in United Kingdom,

Well done Filip!
I worked out the correct answer from counting out the other two... a little while after I'd noticed how stupendously thick I'd been in misreading the question!! :P

By in Germany,

Congratulations, Filip!

Huw, can you post a statistic of the given answers? For A, B or C?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Luckily for me, I ruled out Jamie Berard at the start because I thought he wasn't working for Lego back at the time of the Grand Carousel--if not for that mis-assumption I might have thought the question was a very clever double-bluff! And I was able to rule out Mark Stafford because the Grand Carousel isn't on his Bricklist...which only left the correct answer. Even if I wasn't lucky enough to win I'm glad to have worked out the right answer without resorting to Google :)

Congratulations, Filip--enjoy the set!

Gravatar
By in Romania,

The fact that so many got the wrong answer should give you an idea how "simple" the question was... Anyway congrats for the winner!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just curious, has Filip claimed it yet?
