Avatar: The Last Airbender

It's been a couple of weeks since I added the last minifig gallery so I thought it was about time I brought you another...

The six Avatar figs featured today appeared in just two sets that were released in 2006. They were not available in the UK, and in fact they may have been available only in North America. So as a result, until a couple of weeks ago, I didn't have any of the minifigs at all. But thanks to BrickLink, I now have a full set so have been able to create a gallery for you. I hope you appreciate my efforts :-)

Wow Huw, thanks! You must have spent a fortune, those figs go for big bucks!

This is a theme that they could've done so much more with....so many great characters that would've been great to have in Lego form. Oh well.

Thank you, Huw for all of your time and money that you have spent on these minifig galleries!

By in United States,

I never managed to get a good look at these figs. I wanted to get the big ship once because it was on clearance at my local Pawn Shop (Yes, it sometimes stocks LEGOs) for like 5 bucks. Though, the box was really dented so that might have been why. I was, however, buying something for my dad so I couldn't get it :(

Also, how much did those figs cost on brick link? A fortune seeing as the Batman figures (Which aren't really that rare!) sell for like 30 bucks each.

You forgot momo. The flying bat monkey thing. If Sebulba in Star Wars can be considered a minifigure so should momo.

Thanks, Huw, much appreciated!

Your efforts are GREATLY appreciated Huw. You're putting together the definitive mini-fig gallery on the net bar none.

Wonder why only 2 sets for Airbender were made. The 2 model kits look uninspired to me.

By in Canada,

The minifigs look almost as if Lego photographed them! Great work Huw!

By in United Kingdom,

^ Bricklink doesn't consider Momo a minifig, and neither do I :-)

I don't really think Sebulba counts either, personally, given he's a poorly moulded lump of plastic.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I heard that LEGO only acquired the Avatar licence to prevent Mega????ks from getting it, and then had to produce some sets under the terms of the licence.

By in United States,

wow. there arnt many minifigs for this theme. And hooray for lego for taking potential business away from "mega????ks" ;-)

Gravatar
By in France,

Taking potential business away from Mega????ks to do so little with it, is pretty lame from The (all mighty) Lego Group, even though I don't like Mega????ks. There was so much to do (Appa!) with this license, it's almost tragic.

You actually bough the missing figs so you could complete this gallery!? Wow! Thank you so much! You've put a lot of time and money into these galleries, and I'm sure that I speak for everyone on Brickset when I say we are VERY grateful! Just make sure you don't get too crazy; I would hate for you to run around and buy figs you don't really need :P

^ I'm aiming for a complete collection of licenced figs, except for the sports themes. Only about 5 or 6 Star Wars figs to go and I'll be there.

I'm not interested in NBA or Soccer sets, and I'm not sure about Ferrari given the torsoes were stickers, I might give them a miss.

Thanks for the new mini-figure gallery Huw! Personally I never really liked Avatar (it looked too foreign!) but minifigure galleries are always cool. Now a suggestion for your next one: Time Cruisers.

By in United States,

Brilliant. That's all I have to say. You've done a great job Huw. And I'm really looking forward to the starwars gallery. We all appreciate your efforts. Keep up the great work!

@Huw: The Ferrari torsos were stickers!?!?! *screams and faints*
Back on subject, these galleries are great, thanks Huw! What figs are you missing from Star Wars?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

This has probably been asked before but will you be creating a Toy Story gallery? Many, if not all of them were not your standard minifigs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I agree, there could have been so much more to the theme.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I remember when I first bought these sets. I think that LEGO discontinued this theme perhaps because in the show the main characters were always traveling so they could never focus on one place. Anyway great gallery, I think I still have my minifigures...

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Stacy: There already IS one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, it's nice to have another gallery. Even though I highly dislike the theme.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was not a big fan of this theme...but, looking at these figs it might bring me to buy those sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was such a horrible theme in every way imaginable. The sets are so poorly designed, the figures are uninspiring and the material upon which the theme is based is a horrendously stupid cartoon. If it's true that Lego only produced these sets to keep Megablocks from getting the theme than I hope Lego paid a lot and got their butts handed to them financially for being petty and dumb enough to care about such a pathetic license.

By in Denmark,

Having just had a glance at the original Bricklink shots, you have done the figures a great service. I can see why you skipped the monkey thing. As for the theme, the Air Temple looks OK, but as for the boat. What an ugly pile of bricks.

Gravatar
By in France,

The level of hate, ignorance and self-suffisance against this license is quite amazing and hard to get. I agree that the theme is poorly exploited but the virulent and definitive criticism towards the source material is absolutely not understandable when you've seen the level of morality and quality that the storytelling of the serie maintained between hope, fate, wisdom, adversity and a lot of fresh humour. I guess it's a matter of taste. Anyway thanks for the galleries Huw.

By in United States,

@richselby: I agree about the Temple, but as for the ship, it had it's uses. I built a battleship out of the parts for that ship in 2007, and except for the three main guns, (which I made in LDD) it was completely made from that ship's parts. Granted, it looked very ugly with those very small guns and tall tower. But the front with the dropping bow door, the smoke stacks, and opening cabin made this a must buy for me. It did look horrible original with that crate on the top deck, (and who could forget the catapult!) but it had room for improvement. And isn't improving what we usually do to LEGO sets anyway?

P.S. Thanks for the new Avatar gallery Huw!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow! I didn't even know they made a Katara figure, though she's not as impressive as the Sokka minifigure. I have most of these seeing as I got the Air Temple set. The Fire Nation ship never appealed to me the way the Air Temple's architecture and color scheme went well with my Lego Ninja fortresses.

By in United States,

I more than love your efforts so far, Huw! :D ^ Indeed, what would the next gallery be? I'm guessing you will probably be starting Star Wars soon, if you already haven't, as you say you are only missing 4 or 5 minifigs. Although, I fear that after you have done 200 or so Star Wars minifigs, you may never want to touch a camera again! Best of Luck and thanks again.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Great work, Huw! Avatar rocks, and your effort is highly appreciated, given the prices of these figs! I don't even wanna know what you had to pay for Zuko. I want him sooo bad, but he's ridiculously expensive! Anyway, the only thing I don't like is how the firebender's visor is opened. It's not supposed to open as it's not really a visor on "real" firebenders. But that's just me.

Keep up the good work!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

thanks for this gallery its great I wish I had gotten those sets though. It was really stupid on LEGO's par to not make more as Avatar had a strong following.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

i love avatar i even have a tatoo from him. i'am working on my collection of the minifigures to i only need sokka and the head of zuko

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is Mega???ks the new code word for Megablocks? It's a shame that Lego never really did anything with the theme. I think it had good potential. Oh well.
P.S. I actually think that he Halo Wars mega blocks are really cool and i've bought a couple, even if Megablock DOES steal Lego ideas they still make some cool sets.
