Spare a thought for those in NZ

Posted by ,

As you may have heard an earthquake has caused massive damage and disruption to Christchurch in New Zealand. Many Bricksetters live in the area, including database administrator Grahame.

So, let's pray that they and their families are all OK, and their LEGO collections are not too damaged, and Grahame when you read this let us know that you're alright.

Yes, I hope you all are alright. I watched the two videos on the link and the damage is just tragical. I hope all those Bricksetters affected by this earthquake a safe remainder of this tragedy and if you got injured or a friend/family member was hurt, a speedy recovery.

Prayers for everybody in NZ. My friend's dad lives in NZ so I hope he isn't hurt.
@war44lock I hope you are okay and will survive this disaster.
@legodrew Nice idea! Anybody in NZ could give us reports on the state of the area and, of course, the state of their LEGO.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Yeah my Law class was talking about the Earthquake and we all hope the rescue operations succeed. The pictures of destroyed buildings looked pretty horrible so I don't imagine a lot of Lego is left standing. Again, I hope everyone is all right... I know there's already a rising death toll.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Thank you all fellow Bricksetters for your kind words of support. While I personally am not in the affected area, this tragedy has touched all NZers. Most people I know know somebody in the Christchurch region.

The current situation is not good. The offical death toll is currently 38, but that number is expected to rise considerably. One estimate puts this disaster as possibly being NZ's worst ever. Rescue efforts have gone on through the night (I'm writing this at 8am NZ time) and many surviviors have been located. We can only pray that more people can be rescued.

By in United States,

I send out my hopes and prayers to everyone affected by the earthquake. This is the first I have heard of it, and am glad to see that so many of us are taking the time to send our regards to those in NZ.
@ Cowbell03-I agree with you. I do not often enough realize how blessed I am to live in a part of the U.S. that is so safe from any natural disasters.
@ war44lock-I hope and pray that you and your family and friends will all be alright.
@ legodrew-Yes! Those in the area please tell us how things are!
@ BIONICLEGuy-I pray that your dad's friend is ok!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hope everyone is OK. I knew lots of people down there a few years ago but (luckily) they've all come back home now.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Just a quick note to say that my family and I are safe but there are many who are not so lucky. I haven't checked on the LEGO collection yet - too much other stuff to attend to just now. Thanks to all for the many messages of support.

Gravatar

By in United Kingdom,

All my thoughts, and my prayers, go to everyone in NZ. The first thing I was thinking when I saw the pictures was if everybody living there was OK. Its good to hear that no Brickset members and there familys are hurt.

Gravatar

Thank you everyone for all your kind words of support.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hope everyone down there is okay and recover quickly. Don't let it get you down though, at least you live in such a beautiful country such as New Zealand.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is a touch creepy perhaps, but when I heard about the earthquake this morning my first thought was 'Christchurch, isn't that where Grahame from Brickset lives?' Anyway the pictures from over there are terrifying, that car which is parked and suddenly the building next to it collapses just as it starts to drive away. The back of the car gets covered in rubble and the man inside just hops out and looks at his car in disbelief. Unbelievable!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

A whole load of British firefighters are going over to New Zealand soon to help out with the devastation - hope all who are out there are OK.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I'm glad to hear that you're okay, Grahame.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hope you guys are OK. I saw just one picture that told me you guys were in some trouble. Uh, Grahame, make sure your 1891 sets are OK. (cause I checked his collection and oh, forget it) And glad to hear you're all right.

By in United States,

I do hope everyone is fine and hope they get back to normal! Thoughts and prayers with them all.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Thanks for your thoughts. I and all my family are in Christchurch, and are all miraculously safe. Some damage to our homes, but none of us have lost loved ones or houses, as some we know have. As a school teacher it was a very tense and difficult time yesterday afternoon. A number of friends still among the missing, with very little hope. Very hard to describe the feeling around here, but so thankful I am outside the real danger zone. Lego Pirate Ship and AT-AT Walker reduced to bricks (as well as the sets they landed on!), but will be a wee while before I really care about that, I guess. Will be a long time before we can even gauge how much of an impact this will have on the 400000 people in the affected area.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Man I wish I could come down there and help. Prayers to you all.

Gravatar
By in Canada,
