Space Police 3 join the minifig gallery

Posted by ,

I've added the Space Police 3 officers and aliens to the Space minifig gallery which brings it right up to date. Well, until Alien Conquest is released later this year, anyway. If the pictures are anything to go by, the minifigs in them are going to be awesome! (Trans clear visors at long last!)

As you'll see from the picture of archvillian Squidman, left, I've photographed both front and side, as I felt their heads were interesting enough to warrant it.

Awesome! I'll go check it out! I must say, I enjoy the sideways head thing. I think you should do it with all figures.

Phenomenal gallery! Thanks, Huw! I love the photos of the new space villains, and I like how your archive goes all the way back to 1987. Are you making separate galleries for the two Martian series and the 1978 original space figures?

Excellent job Huw. Thanks.

Again, a clearer and refreshing view!

I hope it's not demending much of you, but is there any possibility of doing something like this (or more profile shots) on figs with unique prints at the back (or on any part for that matter)? :-)

Great work Huw. Love the side shots (will you be doing this for future galleries?). I have the whole Space Police 3 line and it's one of the best for villain figs. Great head sculpts all around from this theme.
If you can, it'd be cool to see Craniac and the Skull Twin(s) with and without their helmets.

Thank you for this great addition! Would you do side shots of the SW aliens when you do SW?

@Zacherano, I don't plan to do 'near-space' sets or the Factory sets (stickered tosoes) but I do hope to add the originals once I've got hold of some decent specimens to photograph.

@Huw It's too bad you live in the UK, cause I have a mint condition yellow spaceman that I could bring if you lived in the Midwest.

Sweet! I love the SPIII aliens! (I have 5 or 6 Squidmen, 3 Kranxxes, 2 Squidtrons, etc.)

^Lucky, I have none. :-(

@ Huw- Are you gonna do the Life on Mars or Mars mission ones at all?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Will you do Skeletons because they have been in many themes you have done so far.

By in United States,

Looks good, though I don't see how you could consider it complete without Classic Space or the Mars minifigs.

Also, what's up with calling the Ice Planet female minifig "Babe?" For all we know, she could be the chief, and the old man could be the janitor.

the space police alien minifig look like mug shots

Another crystal clear, flawless gallery! Thanks Huw!

@Roger Workman: Her given name is Babette. Just don't call her 'Babs'.

She'll chainsaw ya.

By in United Kingdom,

'Babe', 'Blonde Guy', etc. are the names used for the figs by Bricklink; no idea where the names came from originally. We use the same names here for consistency with Bricklink.

Nice additions to the gallery. I like the profile view.

By in United Kingdom,

^^ The 'Ice Plant babe' received that name back in the days of rec.toys.lego. There were very few female figs back in those days as it wasn't until the early '90s that LEGO started to use heads other than the standard smiley so one with lipstick was seen as a 'babe' (or a 'wench' in the case of the Pirate wench), for reasons best known to those who originally named them.

Yes, she may well be the boss, I guess we will never know whether she's a 'Ripley' (from Alien) or a babe...

The side views are indeed a very nice addition, and I think there are several other themes that would deserve them too (such as Toy Story or the Collectable Minifigs), but they're especially cool here because they look like mug shots! :D

By in Canada,

thank you! but how about the space figure from the magnet?

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's not up to date, you should add Mars Mission.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@LEGO_Lord: Perhaps he plans on making a "Mars" minifig gallery considering they have produced Life on Mars as well as Mars Mission.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ No plans to: the minifigs are boring and I don't have even half of them.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Love the aliens! They look fabulous. By the way - I think you should start adding an extra photo of the minifigure in an action pose. I'd love to see Frenzy in a mid run position.

By in Poland,

@Huw - There is one more SP3 minifig left: sp108 - Space Police 3 Droid (from set 5974) :) Even if you don't have him, it's easy to build him form various parts :)

By in United Kingdom,

^ I'm not including brick-built droids, I know BrickLink counts it as a minifig but I certainly don't.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^I agree...brick built figures can't be considered minifigs. They have to have like a unique sculpt or printing I feel to warrant it. I know on Luke's Landspeeder the packaging on the front included the 'sentry/security' droid among the minifigs. I'd say that's a no on a minifig there too.

One thing though, with the Spongebob line there are a couple of brick built figures like Robo Sponge and Robo Customer that have unique stickers that are applied to them, so would consider those mini-figs (?) or just brick built? I'm on the fence on those, 'cause they look pretty decent with the stickers applied. Also what about like , Plankton(has printed eye/mouth), Gary (printed shell)...would they be considered figs.?

By in United Kingdom,

looks great sideways on really shows of the fig more love to see more soon

Gravatar
By in United States,

@LEGODad - I believe here a minifigure is classified as a figure with a head, legs, and body, no bricks.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^Yes, pretty much: they must be regular minifigs or other figure to the same scale which uses 'unique sculpt' as LEGODad states: e.g. skeletons, battle droids etc. I'm not sure about Sebulba from the first pod race set, who would fit into that category, since that's a one-piece poorly moulded piece of plastic in my view and not worth of inclusion.

I'm looking forward to Alien Conquest! Lets hope we get a full gallery!

Is there going to be a Kingdoms minifigure gallery some time?
