Along with this, the Easter email ad I received also claimed to have all clearance Legos further discounted, but my local store, which I just returned from, would not honor the sale. (I didn't know about the coupon for the Star Wars and Harry Potter, but the clerks denied any knowledge of that sale either anyway.) Also, the "clearance" Lego were all at their original TRU full prices when scanned. It's a shame because I was hoping to pick up a Lunar Limo among the clearanced Space Police III sets.

Will have to check on the clearance stuff, thanks for the heads up on that. Any one near a Fred Meyer's they still have a coupon in their site for 10% of toys.

Wow, I was already planning on going today and picking up some non-Star Wars sets, but now I may have to get The Battle of Naboo as well. Hopefully I won't have to spend all my money!

@skherbeck - Thanks for the link ;)

Darn! I could have gone to TRU today but I thought it was closed for Easter.:( (It's 8:00 now)

Wow. Does anyone know if the larger sets - UCS and such - were marked in stock online durring the sale? If so, some folks probably got some spectacular deals there.

By in Canada,

I checked out the online selection... nothing really worth buying. One thing I always have to aim for is the free shipping, but if I can't have it than no deal! In store deals might have been awesome, yet I wasn't up for a ferry ride into the States.

My experience was as follows:

At one point (about 5pm EST), diagon alley came back in stock. I had it in my cart with a tantive, but after TAXES, TRU's markup and shipping (they only took off up to $20 for shipping, then the balance was due), it just wasn't worth the impulse buy. I removed the diagon alley and added another tantive. After taxes and all, they were each $133 and some change, not really much of a bargain!

The death star WAS in stock for this, and I had 2 in my cart at one point. There was no way I was spending 600+ though because I'm not a re-seller, and really had no use for 2 death stars. Interesting observation: the death star does not come up in their inventory anymore, so they must be completely out of it for the time being.

@paul88: Or you could have bought two and sold one immediately on eBay/craigslist, even if you are only 'breaking even' on one that means you still are getting A Death Star for only x dollars...

Thanks for that post paul88. Although savings on the tantive weren't huge, it sounds like there were some great deals to be had indeed (like the death star).

@mkoesel - As I wasn't aware of the promotion until later in the morning, I obviously can't comment on what was/wasn't in stock at the stroke of midnight Sat/Sun. That being said, I did keep an eye on TRU from mid morning on but never once saw anything interesting show back up in stock. I, of course, was mostly just watching the Death Star, Imperial Shuttle, and Diagon. And each of these is at MSRP. The Tantive IV was in stock all day and at only 10% above MSRP, but there was really nothing available outside Hogwarts with which to pair it. And Hogwarts at 25% markup above MSRP pretty much precludes anyone from ever buying it from TRU. That's too bad, too, because I am indeed looking for Hogwarts and very much like the Tantive. I'm sure we'll get other chances, though.

Interestingly enough, 40ish items are now no longer available online from TRU including the Death Star, modulars, emerald night, and medieval market. Also, the Space Shuttle is finally out of stock. I wonder why.

Someone needs to remind me to check TRU's website just after midnight each Saturday for unadvertised deals. :o)

@madforlegos: Yes, I know, but like I said, I'm not a reseller and just did not want to bother with it. Besides, I had already spent $240 on Lego sets earlier in the day at a brick and mortar TRU :)

Believe it or not, I'm not really that big of a fan of the death star. I mean it's "ok", but I would gladly pay the same price in a heartbeat for a tatooine set of the same caliber or possibly a dagobah themed set. I guess there just isn't much variety in the death star from my point of view.

What I'm really looking forward to is some of the new kingdom sets, the city/space sets and especially the alien conquest earth defense set (which was not in stock yet at TRU as far as I know). I love the color scheme of the earth defense set and it *almost* looks as though it could have been a classic space set. Almost. :)

The main problem with TRU vs shop at home is that TRU charges tax because of their brick and mortar stores. Add that to their markups and deals get "not so good" real quick when you are looking at big hauls or high priced spending.

I didn't mention it, but some of the cash I spent on saturday was on 2 of the new atlantis sets (7985 the city, and 7984 deap sea digger). I was very SHOCKED to find the city set still during the buy one get one 50% off so I bought 2 cities! Of course I could sell one, but no, I want to combine them eventually to build a larger city :)

@yellowcastle: I received the coupon in my email saturday afternoon and stayed up until midnight to check the sale. The death star and diagon were definitely in stock at that time b/c as I said, I added 2 death stars to my cart. The imperial shuttle was out of stock in the morning, but at some point during the day came back in stock as well. Diagon was back in stock around 5pm for about 7 or 8 minutes. I went to my mom's for Easter on saturday, so I basically sat around all day sunday. I have an add on for firefox that refreshes any web page automatically and my computer is across from the couch. I had diagon up in the window, so as soon as I saw a magenta/red box from accross the room ("add to cart"), I ran to the computer to check it out.

@paul88 - thanks so much for the great detail. For some reason, I seem to be getting a majority of these TRU emails at my work email instead of home. Thus, I tend to miss any of these one day sale adverts if they run on the weekend. I would have been hardpressed to pass up on getting a half priced death star, but I'm confident my wife would have killed me had I placed a $600 TRU order, even if I were confident I could unload the first one. I'm kicking myself over Diagon, though, as that's absolutely on my watch list and I've been eyeing either another Tantive or Emporium. Oh well, let's wait and see what happens on May the 4th be with you. :o) As for Tax, I get charged by lego.shop.com but perhaps that's only because we have 2 stores in-state? Even if they didn't charge tax, you still have responsibility for that tax come tax time. Thanks again for the great details above.

I ordered two Death Stars at around 12:45 AM EST (11:45 CT where I am).

It was tough to plunk down that much money, but I figured if it get discontinued soon, the prices will probably go up. It is hard to pass up savings of $200 especially because there is no TRU markup.

I figure I can sell the other one if I need to and still make a little money.

I actually asked my wife and was shocked that she said it was up to me.

I bought a UCS MF last summer during the big sale for a little under $400 including tax. I haven't opened it yet as I am try to figure out if it is worth while to open it or sell it for typical asking prices of around $1000-1200.

@yellowcastle: No problem :)

Hmm.... I'm going to have to double check the next time I order from lego.com about the tax thing. It may just be that my thirty something memory has failed and I get charged tax at lego.com as well!
