Hoth Echo Base revealed at LEGO.com

Posted by ,
Hoth Echo Base

At last! Details for the Hoth Rebel Base have emerged -- but only in German! The Star Wars page on the German LEGO.com site has photos and a description, but the set disappears if you change the site's locale to USA or UK.

If you can't read German, head over to Smashing Bricks for a translation. It looks as if it comes with 8 minifigs, no doubt some of which will be exclusives.

wow such a cool set i like the red droid

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow! this looks awesome. I am guessing at least £99.99! I am not mad enough about Star wars to get this but it looks great!

Gravatar
By in United States,

If you use google chrome, it will translate the page for you without even leaving the site. I can't wait fo this to come out!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Awesome, I have to get that! And they have a new Leia!!!! And a bacta tank Luke!!!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

what up with the red 3po? Echo base had a white 3po droid but i do not recall a red one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That is the best Echo Base so far, the red protocol droid is kind of strange-looking though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is going to be an awesome set! It will be a welcome add on to all of the other Hoth sets. I do wish that it focused on only one or two parts of the movie or was a bit bigger. Now for a Rebel Transport or something like that...

Gravatar
By in United States,

There's Han, Luke, Leia, Chewie, two snowtroopers and a red droid. Wait, a red droid?? Who's the red droid????? I remember a white one and 3po, but a red one? ?:l
It looks really great. Wish the entrance was a little bigger though..... and it'd be cool if it came with a couple pilots and General Rieekan (or however you spell his name).

It'd be nice if they had close-up pictures.....

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also it comes with the medical droid. I found out that the red droid is called R-3PO. ?????

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am not a really big STAR WARS fan, but for a good price, I just might get it, and I actually kind of like the Red Protocol droid.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This looks great! So much better than the previous one. And I'm so glad that they didn't include a snowspeeder, as that would really boost the price. The yellow highlights are nice too.
I think I might get this intead of the Falcon now....

Gravatar
By in {Unknown country},

I can see only seven minifigs. 2 snowtroopers, 2 droids, Luke, Leia and Chewie. Where is the 8th?

Gravatar
By in United States,

All you have to do to translate it is go to Google Translate and copy it in. Works wonders! Set looks very interesting, but it has the same snowtrooper gun as the old Hoth Base.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^^ The eighth is Han Solo, according to the description.

Gravatar
By in United States,

If that's going to be all they offer for Echo Base this year then I must declare this FAIL! No Ion canon? No Shield Generator? What’s up with that? and what do we get in exchange? Some AWESOME working Crane action? SWEET! Echo base and the new Lego PORT set have something in common!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like an interesting set.

a red protocol droid was in the Hoth base.

according to wookipedia..."R-3PO first appeared in the film Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back in two scenes within Echo Base's hangar as one of several droid extras"

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

In the Smashing Bricks site, you can see Han Solo and a TaunTaun! :) I think Han might have a version of the new series 5 eskimo hood too! Can't wait for this set!!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@LukeSkywalker - where are you seeing that? All I can see on the page are the box image, the set image and the info.....

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

It's in the box image, in the bottom left-hand corner :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

That looks very cool! Pun intended, by the way. Can't wait to use it with my Mon Calamari Home One cruiser!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow. This might shoot ahead of Cloud City as my least favorite Star Wars set ever. Oh well, what can you do...

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ I concur. They really butchered it, especially with those miserable flick-fires, ugly antenna, and the red protocol droid, which, while interesting, is completely random. While the bacta tank is decent and the Luke minifig is kind of cool, I think the whole thing looks horrible. It's sets like these that try my patientce with TLG's direction for the Star Wars line...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like fun playset all around BUT, they should incorporated an Ion Cannon and Shield generator if they're goin' for this size a playset. I'm suspecting they'll offer those down the road as separate sets to keep expanding on the Hoth theme.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

These are the words that are in German:

"Get ready to attack! The imperial troops have discovered the secret Rebel base on the ice planet Hoth and prepare for battle. Han Solo, Chewbacca and Princess Leia stand ready to defend the base, while Luke Skywalker in Bacta tank, and it is handled by Medizindroiden 2-1B. Contains R-3PO Droids and two mini figures. With base-stable and Tauntaun Tauntaun, functioning crane, two stretchers rotating radar dishes, ice fall, and speeder bike.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think that this set is kind of cool, but I don't like LEGO Star Wars so I won't get it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

YES! They finally made a base! The last Echo Base was some snow...

I think I might actually have to go buy some Hoth sets now and wait until this comes out, I wish that they had made a better AT-AT last year thpugh, because so far the only good version had been the 2003 one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love Hoth and look forward to this set. Will look great along with my other Hoth sets (Rebel Base, Echo Base, Wampa, etc.) Still want to see them do an ION cannon set as well as a Power Generator set. Keep'em coming Lego!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

R-3PO looks great, but I am thinking along the same lines as yellowcastle. The set looks ugly.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll definitely be getting this, but bits of the set will just be incorporated as parts into my brickplumberwannabe MOC. Bummer I bought 2-1B on Bricklink, but the new protocol droid is sweet! Now I can pick up K-3PO without worrying about a repeat figure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

NICE lego good job

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

In the words of Mister Horse "No sir, I don't like it."

Gravatar
By in Canada,

That is the best Starwars set Lego has put out in the last few years. Finally something new! My guess is that it will set me back anywhere from 80-90 US dollars. The set doesn't look huge but lord knows the figures will drive the price up.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh geeze, another playset.
At least, it's the inside of Echo Base with the infirmary and control center and stuff.
But, seriously, when is Lego going to make the Ion Cannon and/or the Shield Generator?
I mean, come on, it's been 12 years!!
We're on our 3rd iterations of the flippin' Sith Infiltrator and the Naboo Starfighter!
And the 4th iteration of the Millenium Falcon and Slave I!
And while we're at it, A Rebel Transport would be nice.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nyaeah! Not exactly inspiring.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow this set is probably one of the most disappointing teases I have ever experienced from Lego! I was so excited to see a picture of this set, now I am just disappointed and won't even waste my money on this set. You can't even tell this is a Star Wars set really besides the bacta tank, it could really be anything you wanted it to be. I wanted a big echo base with lots of detail with an actual baseplate with big walls and maybe even a shield generator. Even if it cost $400 like the Deathstar I would have still bought it and I think alot of other people would have too if it was designed right. Lego keeps concentrating on silly sets for the clone wars that they're are distancing themselves from what fans actually want. If they were smart they would design a new cantina set, a Jabba's Palace set, and a new cloud city set, but we keep getting revamps of the naboo fighter. This set is nothing short of an epic fail and lego is just releasing it because they know the "must have it all" fans will buy it up.

By in Australia,

By the sounds of it, this set has disappointed quite a few of us but what's the best it'll be worth a small fortune in a few years time? I'm concerned that this is going to be another exclusive to TRU, which means big $$$$. At this stage, I think I'll pass - I concur with the general consensus here that it's not a great set and most likely will not be worth what will be the ridiculous price tag attached.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm going to wait until the characters are on Bicklink or EBay. Not impressed by the set but like the red C3PO like character.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't really agree that this set is a flop. I mean, sure it looks nothing like the actual Echo Base, but if you include this with the previous Echo Base, you get the exterior gate and the interior screens and bacta tank. But I do have to say this. Why would Lego put ANOTHER Hoth speeder and turret?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have to agree with Yellowcastle and PaulTR, and add sadly a devastatingly shocking missed opportunity. I'm a huge LSW fan but dear o dear there is bearly no relevance to the title other than the bacta tank. Ion cannon and sheild generator would have been essential in this set. 'taxi' for this please...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just looks like a thrown together mess.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have to agree, the set itself would be much better with the ion cannon and shield generator, but it still looks pretty cool.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

It's definitely great that they've finally put out a somewhat substantial Echo Base set after the last few have been all kinds of questionable, at least as far as rightful possession of the name is concerned; that this one actually looks like the base interior in a cohesive structure form is a nice improvement. Though, LEGO's ongoing adoration for the Battle of Hoth feels to be wearing a bit thin. Couldn't they go focus on, for example, the Death Star sequences of A New Hope and try something different and exciting in which they've virtually never dabbled? I'd say we've got plenty of Snowtroopers by now, thanks. :P

As for the set, it's good - I wouldn't call it anything spectacular, minifigs aside, but it's a far better effort than the last few "Echo Bases". I shudder to think how pricey it'll be even outside of Australia...

Gravatar
By in United States,

It says how very sad the recent Lego SW sets have been for people to be this entranced by what appears to be a really cruddy set that will cost at least 100 USD, if not more....Interesting figs.. if they wouldn't make them magnet sets later... not really impressed...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't really get why this set is receiving so much criticism. It looks fun, well detailed set to me. Maybe that is just the thoughts of a guy who has not been able to buy the huge, super-detailed collector sets. I will be saving up for it, though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

On the other hand, I would have liked more snowtroopers, a floor plate, an exploding shield generator and some rebel troopers.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

i think it will be like 60-80 dollars or more.i'll obviously get it for my MOC WIP hoth echo base.
great figs,my bacta tank will be read with this model, also the central control. :)
not THE GRATEST hoth set, cause it doesn't have a structure like the original one or like the 2007 one, this was great!
but I still needing 2x echo base from 2009 to make my outside area.
the first huge hoth echo base from Brazil will be done soon!!!(mine echo base) lol
be tunnde guys!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wonder when the summer sets will be available to buy in the US

Gravatar
By in United States,

Given the disappointing sales of Home One Calamari, I am surprised to see the set designed this way - almost a copy. One half a control station, the other half a hangar of some sort. The description mentioned a tauntaun which I don't see in the photo, and I suppose you could fit this around a Falcon or Snowspeeder, but...

nothing about this seems iconic or especially clever. It's fine set. I hope it sells well. When I find a nice sale on it, I will probably pick one up.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

As I can see, there are a lot of mixed feelings on this set. I think that the 2007 one was a bit better. (if you could combine the two, then it might look cool) I take back what I said before, about it being ugly, but I still think the structure is some random pieces, thrown together. They bare no (other than the bacta tank) resemblance to the movie. It's alright, but I won't be getting it. (I will get R-3PO; I am happy about him!!!!)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Good point about Home One looking like this set, @brickupdate.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Red protocol droid? And its original trilogy so my guess is its been made with adult collectors in mind.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My guess is that the feelings on this set will be split down age lines with the younger crowd liking it's playability and the older crowd disliking the randomness. Personally, I like the figs, but son't see myself building it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I also am disappointed. From the picture, if they did not include the left half it might be a good addition to the previous set. Since the description says it has Han Solo and his Tauntaun for the 8th figure, and the pictures from the box show the cheesey Eskimo hood (fur in a circle) not like the previous than I am even more disappointed.
The only pluses are Luke in Bacta Tank,2-1B, and Leia in her Command Outfit. A shield generator would have been nice, but the Ion Cannon would have been over the top.
I have to agree with Yellow Castle and PaulTR, TLG needs to concentrate on some real sets and not half ones like Home One and this.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Finally! This set is awesome

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I think I will buy it, depending on price which my guess is around $200-$240 NZ, similar to Endor which I didn't buy due to price. I only want it because I missed out on the last Hoth base set and only have echo base which is tiny. But I don't really like the look of it, same as Home One didn't grab me. Trying to do huge scenes in tiny sets just doesn't work.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really want this to add to my Hoth collection

Gravatar
By in Australia,

New Star Wars Lego Sets available to buy at Shop at Home in Australia, they don't seem to be available in any other country yet. The prices are just ridiculously high

Gravatar
By in Australia,

@scholte23 you said it. Prices are more or less double U.S. prices, in fact, more given the strength of the Aussie dollar. The great Aussie Lego rip off continues.....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like it! I tend to have a fear of 'playset' style sets, but I think this just about retains its look as a fairly realistic representation of the base. If anyone was fretting about the red Protocol droid then I remember it from the film, it was first seen just before Chewie is bashing his head against the metal bar when the shield doors are being closed (which reminds me, this thing really should have shield doors, fingers crossed) and then when the camera is panning to the meeting of the snowspeeder pilots with Leia. Obviously he was put in so there could be a totally exclusive minifigure which is unlikely to appear in any other set in the future.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I must say, I'm severely disappointed with this. To a point where I would say this is the worst LEGO Star Wars set to ever be produced. I'm an adult builder and usually focus on Star Wars moc's, and when I saw there was going to be a new Hoth base be came excited at what it could be. In the hope of a shield generator or ion cannon, I'm now left to look at this. What might be the tackiest thing I've ever witnessed. It's just so ugly and the only thing I can think to do with it is take the bacta tank and what not just to add to what I already have. I don't think LEGO is going downhill at all (some great looking sets coming soon), but this just looks like a rushed idea. Good playability for kids though I suppose.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

ah i cant say i was excepcting any thing major this is a nice inside set. its hinged in a lot of places to so to slot in the doors from the last major hoth set is easy enough. add a few cranes x wing couple of snow speeders working hoth base and a shield generateer is easy to make. i just really want a jedi temple

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Well... Who cares about if it is in German? I don't! the pictures and Google Translate speak for themselves!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@wagnerml: I agree, that certainly seems like what is going on here. I know I will be saving up for it. The playability looks great, the figs are very cool and I will finally have something to use my Echo Base 2009 with. At least, it will add some figures.

Gravatar
By in United States,

By the way, does anyone know if this is set to come with a snowspeeder? I have one but, as it is the 2004 or someting one, a new one would be nice.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have to agree with tom_2772 this model is really a mess and although certain features are nice the layout looks horrible and tacky. And though the playability may be reasonble the previous echo base set in 2007 was alot better than this £60.00 max. Sorry lego you've let yourself down.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I got to admit this set is a little ugly, but I collect Hoth sets and I have the 2007 Hoth Base so this set make a great expansion. So I'am still buying it

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was pretty pumped for this set but its hasnt quite captured my interest in the way i hoped. I like the detail inside the base and the amount of minifigs. Will see how this is priced and potentialy wait for it to get reduced

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not impressive looking at all!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This Set is the best Hoth set they have ever made!!!!!!!!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like something from the Agents theme..... don't need more snowtroopers with E-web or Han on Tauntaun - we got that in 7749. C'mon Lego, your SW line is really slipping lately.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

What are you talking about, @Jayr17? R-3PO is great too!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sadly, I was hoping for an R3 unit.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Thomson & Thompson: it's great to know someone else likes tintin.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Use google translate to decode the german.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Whoa, RED C-3PO? Cool...

Gravatar
By in France,

A big disappointment. Not a patch on the Endor base which fully represent the scene from the movie

Gravatar
By in United States,

Maybe Lego is making us wait for a Ion Cannon or Generator so when they do release one, everybody frantically tries to buy them. Sneaky Lego, VERY sneaky.... :P

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm with yellowcastle, Tom_2772, and mrdennings. No ion cannon? No commander? And where were there speeder bikes on Hoth? Aside from the bacta tank, there really doesn't seem like there is much to this set, and what little there is has already been done, and better. Lego is milking the Star Wars line, but doing so with very weak and uninteresting sets, I'm afraid. Oh well, stuff like this helps ween off the Lego addiction.

Gravatar
By in United States,

To me this set has both good and bad in it. It looks like it could have a nice interior area with the bacta tank and control room, bu the weapons and radar dish just don't work for me. I'll wait till I can see it in more detail before I decide if I'm going to get it or not though.
