News commenting is back

Posted by ,

Tabletown I have re-enabled news commenting, merely a week after saying I would not. Why? Well, despite the hard work needed to keep you lot in order, the site is kinda boring without them.

HOWEVER: The moderators will not tolerate any off-topic or pointless posts, so don't even bother. If your post does not 'add value' to the news story, it will be deleted.

The good news is that Dr. S. has agreed that you can use the Tabletown forums for more general LEGO discussions, so please take them over there.

Yay! I do have to say, without comments it was REALLY boring. I remember, when we were all excited about the new sets, comments were where we looked for links. Thank you guys so much!

Whoohoo!!!!!!! I am SO excited! It was getting REALLY boring as SillyQuack said. Thanks Huw and the team!! I noticed some new "Notes" and the "This is NOT a discussion forum!" down under the "add a comment".

Thankyou huw and the rest! Leggodt, Skytalker, Fighter95, and all the other members who comment lots on here, I look forward to seeing you on the Tabletown forums! I have been on there for over 2 months, it's really good there!

So does that mean that every topic can't be about Star Wars? That's something I would like to see and that the mods don't seem to care about.

Sweet! Yea, like everyon said, it is pretty boring. Like brickset was missing something from the site. O_o

Once I found out that there was going to be no more comments, I left the site for a while. Came back to check on the progress, good job Brickset! Now I'll be using it reguarly!

Same here, Da_LegoBuilder. I'm just glad that everything is back to normal, but I seriously think that we need a new news forum. Maybe something about the new 2008 summer sets.(DO NOT DLETE THIS COMMENT!)

That won't happen. Go to Tabletown for more general discussion.

I keep trying to say, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears, that this is not and will never be a general discussion forum. There are plenty of other sites to chat about LEGO.

I've deleted some comments that have been made subsequent to Huw's statement above as the message doesn't appear to be sinking in.

Nowhere does it say that Huw has to provide a discussion forum - if he doesn't want to host one, then that's that. It's his choice. Yelling about it isn't going to get anywhere. He sets the rules and he's entitled to do that.

Brickset is all about the LEGO sets, and news about where to find them. It's for tracking your collection, looking for new things and reading reviews. As Huw says, there are a load of places out there where you can chat generally about LEGO and about other items related to the hobby.

Huw's done his best to provide the best of both worlds - by re-enabling comments here and directing you to a site where you can talk to your heart's content about LEGO itself. It's a shame that some members appear to want to continue to complain for no apparent reason.

When the news commenting returned, I was under the immpression that Brickset was back to normal. But I was wrong. Comments, many of which are on topic, have been deleted. I bet this comment will be deleted, but its connected to the news article, that is that it is about news commenting being back. So mods, please, I'm not trying to change Brickset, I know that will just result in account suspension, but please, read tthis, and think before you delete it.
Please.

legoguysw, we're happy to leave comments which are on topic and interesting for other people to read. What we don't like though are one-liners saying things like "wow geat set" or "I'm gonna get that". It's good that the poster likes the set or is going to be getting it, but the comment is not interesting for others and, frankly, nobody really cares if so-and-so whom they have never met is getting a set or not (apart from LEGO, of course :-) )

Well how come my comments to Leggodt, asking why he won't join the Tabletown forums, when he wants a forum on here, got deleted?

By in Brazil,

I signed up for table town but I still liking to comment on brickset, if my comments will be deleted I understand why. I'm now trying to do better reviews than I made previously (some of my first reviews and other reviews from some other people are only comments and opinions about the set, also if these don't understand the set that they review) and I will search for make the same with the comments. And I agree in delete comments that aren't useful, and I think the same could occur with the unuseful reviews (or only comments about the set in the place of a review).

OK, but my comments are still getting deleted. All I want to know is why I can't join. It just says that my email is a fake.

I don't really like tabletown forums; it looks a little weird, and brickset is organized in a much better manner so that it is easier to understand things thanks to huw, of course. Anyways, so, I don't think that I'll be joining it.

The real question is what would stop us having our own one, powered buy such and such like other sites do? Not dissing Tabletown at all, just cause we can and then we aren't relying on others.

If we got the hosting power and the mods to do it I feel most members would use it.

Wow, I thought the mods were against a forum, but now Blade is going for one!
