Buy Two, Get One 90% Off at Toys R Us

Posted by ,
Tantive IV

Valid Friday (6/24/11) thru Saturday (6/25/11), Toys R Us is holding a Buy Two, Get One 90% Off sale on ALL LEGO construction sets. This sale is valid both in-store and online. Though many of the direct sets are currently sold out online, we saw last week many instances where they would briefly return to stock. As always, try to match similarly priced sets in order to maximize your discount.

What is up with TRU giving all these good sales?

I liked buy 1, get 1 50% off better.

Once again, it appears this unadvertised sale began last night at midnight. Unfortunately, TRU sent the flyer to my work email yesterday evening so I only received it this morning. That being said, thanks go to forum member sidersdd for alerting the forum just after midnight last night. Hopefully, a few people were able to score some good deals on the more elusive direct sets.

Why is the Tantive IV set shown when it's Construction sets...?

EDIT: Wait...do they mean ALL Lego sets, period?

By in Portugal,

I suppose they mean ALL LEGO sets, besides VideoGames and such, jonbuddy.

Okay if the deal was buy one get one 50% off.... I could buy four sets at 20 bucks, which would bring two of them down to 10 bucks... making for a total of 20 + 10, 20 + 10, $60.

Now if I bought the same 4 sets under the buy 2 get one 90% off, that would be 20 + 20 + 2 + 20. That would be $62.

So the buy one get one sale is a much better deal. Which brings me to this question: What can't ToysRUs just simply do a buy 2 get the 3rd one free sale. 90% off, seriously?

@vpustote - You are doing the math right but the comparison is wrong. If the sale is buy 2 get one 90% you should only purchase Two to get the third one at 90% and not buy another 4th set for retail.

The Buy 2 and get one 90% off is a better deal. It would be a savings of 30% if you buy all three sets at the same price. The buy one get one 50% is only 25%.

Here is the math = Buy two items at 20bucks = 20+10= 30 ~ Savings of 10 dollars ( 25%)
Buy 2 items and 1 = 20+20+2 = 42 ~ Savings of 18 bucks ( 30%)

------ But I do agree that this is the strangest sale ever, who does buy 2 get the 3rd on 90% off...But Target had a Buy one get 1 30% off..

After pretty much conquering the entire Harbour sub-theme during the BOGO, I have very little money in the Lego jar right now.

Think I'll go small, Alien Defender, Blacksmith Attack and maybe PoP Desert Attack for a grand total of $23.00 USD (save about 7). Either that or get two of the $5 sets and get a third for .50 (total $10.00, save 4.50). This is a small sale disguised with big numbers...

I just ordered 3 of the 30015 the bagged jet ski for the harbour sets.
didn't even know it was released yet.

@LEGOlas1: That is what I thought it said at first. I was getting prepped to buy the Temple of Atlantis and Earth Defense HQ. Oh, well.

Gravatar
By in United States,

how about 20 percent off each set of $99.99 or more

one set:
buy one get one half off: 100
buy two get third 90 of: 100
deal above: 80

two set
1. 150
2. 200
3. 160

three set
1. 250
2. 210
3. 240

This is a better buy if you just want to buy one. what would also be cool is a predetermined set free if you buy two or more certain items.
ex. buy the new marina and harbor and get a free boat transporter

Damn them for not making this available worldwide.

Id be mad, if I did not just smoke my Credit card for the BOGO...
I cannot imagine they had much stock for any of the direct sets after the sale last week.. TRU has been notorious for not getting huge stock numbers back in time...

At first I thought that B2G190%OFF was a joke about TRU's 10%+ markup on most items, but now I see that it is just TRU taking away a bit more of the savings.

I've been looking at a set, MSRP is $13, TRU price is $16. So in this sale I could buy three for $33.60, which makes this a 14% sale over MSRP.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ 13.84% under MSRP each :o)

By in Canada,

You have to buy 2? Well, you still get a markdown anyway. This is just in the US, so it doesn't matter to me.

JUST when im unemployed!

I might get the AT-AT

Gravatar
By in United States,

Anyone else thinks that IF this sale is successful for TRU, we will never see the old B2GF1 sale ever again?
Only time I saw 90% off is clearance items that everyone else left behind ))

Gravatar
By in United States,

^B2G1F sales in TRU always appear in mid September.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It looks like TRU is trying to get rid of their back stock. I'll check it out after work tomorrow but I wonder how much they raised the prices, which is what they normally do with these sales.

Gravatar
By in United States,

speaking of tru backstock... my tru still has out LOADS of the 2010 city advent calander!!!! in June!!!! It was so terrible. I cringe everytime I go into the store and see it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Jeffjcc I want to know where you are so I can come to that store.

My comment didn't post the first time but I hate these timings for sales. I've been in WV for the past two weeks and can't get any cause i only have $10. Ironic that I got the UFO abduction from Target and the next day TRU had the sale.

By in United States,

I stopped by my store last night. I asked the lady if I brought my receipt in from last weeks sale if I could get the 3rd set for the 90%. She said yes, then her manager said no. You can't have both. So they would have to return the 2 sets from the B1G50%. Then do the normal ring out. I ran the numbers and the only difference based on the 69.99 sets is about $5. So it is not really worth going to the store to do everything.

Just run your numbers first. I did find that the prices for most of the sets are the same price as everywhere else.

Just saying.

By in United States,

I have also seen the Advent calendars at the local TRU... at 35 USD still...lol Gee I wonder why they are still there... maybe because they were not worth the 35 when they were new....

@AZFIREWOLF:
Technically, if you did not open the boxes, you could return the sets you got, get a refund, then go buy the sets for the discounted prices.. IF they had those sets in stock and if you want to take that kind of time to do that.....:-)
That is why it is kinda weird the Manager said no.. I mean one way or another you could get the discount. (as long as you did not open the boxes that is).

I went over to the my local tru, got a bunch of the forbidden forest sets, Light houses, and black smith shops.. as well as some geishas and a few other figs....

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ I think AZFIREWOLF is saying that he couldn't tack on a 3rd set for 90% off to the two sets he purchased at full and half price, which is understandable that the manager wouldn't allow it, since it's combining discounts and not the intent of this promotion. In case it's not yet obvious to people, this promotion equates to 30% off across three sets if you match the values as opposed to 25% off two sets of equal value under the BOGO 50% sale, so slightly better discount but offset by the inconvenience and challenge of having to buy an additional set.

I am seeing a lot of "just bought my sets ____ I am out of money". Everyone remember always KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS. Even if you bought a set, opened it an built it. You can get a refund... sort of.

Example, you bought the Pharaoh Scorpion Pyramid set at TRU for $100 and have opened and built it; 28 days later TRU has a BOGO 50% sale. Go back and buy another Scorpion Pyramid and another $100 set for a total of $150. Then take the Scorpion Pyramid from the 2nd purchase AND the RECEIPT from the 1st purchase and return it for a refund of your first $100.

You have 30days at TRU (and most stores) for a refund of unopened items.

Went to TRU and bought 3 sets for this promo. When I checked out, I asked if the clearance sets were also included in the B2G190% offer. They were!!!! So I bought three clearance sets( which were an add'l 25% off) and got the third for 90% off.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This sale was perfectly timed since I had a $5 TRU rewards certificate. So, I was able to combine that with the sale to get $15 worth of sets for a little over $5. My Alien Conquest army just grew a little! (Bought duplicates of the AC $5 set.)

By in Canada,

Wow, I wish I could`ve went, but sadly I was working :( I would have bought the Grand Emporium, Pet Shop, and Harbour, well I`ll have to wait for next time!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I got 8426 (lost at sea), 8206 (Tokyo pit stop), and 8424 (mater's spy zone). All 3 for 36.50 plus tax. If I am correct, that is $12.16 per set. Not bad. All were at MSRP and the most expensive set was $19.99. So the breakdown wasn't bad at all.

Gravatar
By in United States,

FYI, the BOGO50% is now up again on toysrus....or am I tripping? Nope. I'm not tripping.

Gravatar
By in United States,

?????!!!!!! Why is TRU having SOOOO many BOGO% sales? Are they going out of business???
