Mid-Year Toy Sales

Imperial Shuttle

It's that time of year again when all of the major retailers in Australia begin their Mid-Year Toy Sales. There are some good deals to be found - I suggest that you look carefully at the offers in the retailer catalogues.

Of note, Myer is offering 10214 Tower Bridge for AUD 319, which is much less than the Australian RRP of AUD 399. Big W is offering 10212 Star Wars UCS Imperial Shuttle for AUD 448. At these prices, it is worth considering purchasing these massive sets in Australia, rather than shipping them in from overseas (think of the high postage costs!).

Remember, the big retailers all offer extended lay-by facilities during the Toy Sales, which is great if you want to get some of the larger sets for Christmas without the initial large financial outlay!

Here is the summary of the various sales at the large retailers:

Target - Sale starts July 21.
Target's Toy Sale Catalogue has not been released yet.

K-Mart - Sale runs from 30 June 2011 to 13 July 2011.
K-Mart Toy Sale catalogue - refer to pages 40 through 43.
K-Mart also offers a "guaranteed lay-by" facility, where you can go to the in-store layby desk with the catalogue, and point out what items you'd like to place on layby - no more visiting the store to find out they've sold out of the item you were after!

Big-W - Sale runs from 30 June 2011 to 13 July 2011.
Big-W Toy Sale catalogue - refer to pages 58 through 61.

Myer - Sale runs from 23 June 2011 to 24 July 2011. (All LEGO 20%-off during sale).
Myer Toy Sale catalogue - refer to page 3, page 8 and page 32.

Also, of note I feel, is that Kmart has 10231 Shuttle Expedition for $129. Not bad. :)

Target will have Diagon Alley for $223. That USC Imperial Shuttle is still a lot more expensive than importing (plus Big W puts security tape all over the box). The Tower Bridge is worth it though.

A couple of things:

Over the just ended weekend, Myer offered an additional 10% off for MyerOne members. It's free to join MyerOne - they just want your email address so they can advertise to you. Though ended, Myer's sales are frequent, so it's likely they'll have another one before the end of their toy sale. (It's 10% * the existing 20%, so the math works out to 28% total discount.)

Target and Kmart's layby reserve thing can also (apparently) be done online.

The 10212 Imperial Shuttle has an LEGO S@H Australian RRP of $449.99, so Big W's "discount" is a whopping $2. The US RRP is $259.99 USD = $248.23 AUD at today's exchange rate. $200 pays for a lot of freight!

Wow, with some of Big W and Kmart's sale prices, I may actually be able to afford some half-decent sets now! =O

By in Australia,

I just bought the new millennium falcon from Outer Rim Trading, an online retailer in Brisbane. I'm in Sydney, took 2 days to arrive, 20% cheaper than the RRP and free shipping. The site seems to generally be cheaper than stores, even during sales, and also has a pretty decent range, well worth checking out.

One big one in the Myer sale, they've got the Imperial flagship for $219 again this year.

Kmart and Big W - big disappointment. Not 20% off lego this year and only a few small-ish sets discounted (only those advertised in their catalogues). They lost my business this year! Just did my toy sale shopping online via Target's early bird Toy Sale website - very handy as I'm busy the day of the sale. Can pick up in-store any time I like. Now THAT'S how you do it! ooo Myers - tower bridge sounds like a good deal.
