Exclusive, collectible "Young Han Solo" minifigure.

Posted by ,

As you know, brickset.com is all about the bricks; we deliberately don't give much coverage to all the other non-brick products that LEGO produce, like video games, kitchen accesories, storage boxes, yadda, yadda, ...

This item is a little bit of an exception - the recently broadcast (on Cartoon Network in the US) "LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace" TV special is getting released as a BluRay/DVD combo-pack in the USofA on September 16th ... the twist is that it comes with an exclusive, collectable "Young Han Solo" minifig. No news on international availability, of either the BluRay/DVD combo-pack, or whether the fig will be included outside of the US.

At the link you can find details of the extras & details of pre-ordering the pack from Walmart.

Wow, that's interesting. Don't want the movies, but the figure looks neat.

It looks to plain and the Head looks typical, except the hair is rare in that color

By in United States,

I'm going to get this for sure!

Oh god a young han solo?? The only good thing about the episodes 1-3 were that they didn't ruin the character of han solo by shoving in some cameo baby appearance of him. Guess that's ruined now...

Sounds like this will be at the top of my Christmas list...

By in Australia,

Yeah, I thought in the real Star Wars (1977) movie, Han Solo had flown from one end of the galaxy to the other, and had seen nothing like the Force. And now it seems all the time his young self had been on a day trip with Jedi Padawans?!

But realistically, LEGO Star Wars and the real Star Wars are alternate universes to each other. That's true even if you count the modern Clone Wars stuff as being part of the real Star Wars (which personally I don't).

Just like anything Star Wars related made or written after the 1980s. Only the names and character likenesses are the same. It's a completely different world.

Enjoy LEGO Star Wars for being LEGO Star Wars.

By in United States,

Ok, I watched the show, and I have to admit, it was awesome! Really funny, interesting story, and overall a really nice 30min show. I don't get why a young Han is bad, I mean its a Lego short film, its not supposed to have happened. You really can't understand the 'young Han' unless you watch the movie. Actually, I wish it was a George Lucas instead, I still crack up at those scenes! :P

By in United States,

Didn't see the show, but wife pre-ordered it for my son. He watched that Clutch Powers movie like 50 times...he is 6 so he will love it no matter how good or bad it might be. Mini-fig a plus.

By in United States,

My kids and I watched it 3 times. They aired it Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I am so getting this movie!! So cute and funny. I noticed on EBay 2 of these figures sold from SDCC (comic con) for $110 for one and $113.50 for the other. I bet those people will be kicking themselves now!!!

Just pre-ordered mine!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

For those who didn't know, this is $13.00 even. It says that the list price is $19.99 so you save $6.99... so don't wait too long to pre-order!

I am a original trilogy purest. As soon as my time machine is perfected I WILL go back and somehow prevent the tragedy that was episode 1-3. The Lego parody stuff is the only thing I can stomach (okay Clone War is cool too) so I will buy it for both the video and the figure.

More kiddie trash that shows why the Star Wars Lego line should die.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Watched that Star Wars show a couple times and I thought it was really funny. I even wish they'd make an actual set of the Jedi Council School District ship.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@voypro how can you say your a original trilogy purest and claim to like the Clone Wars stuff?? That's like Episodes 1-3 opening a big wound, then the Clone Wars is pouring salt into it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

It doesn't look too special, the white boba Fett is Cooler

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hmm, a Young Han Solo? Sounds a bit off canon if you ask me....

Gravatar
By in United States,

@voypro do like Patton Oswalt plans on doing and go back to the early '90s and kill George Lucas with a shovel. Hilarious routine if you haven't heard it.

can some one point me in the right direction for what LEGO produce, like video games, kitchen accesories, storage boxes, and all that so called yadda, yadda from SDCC 2011? i have googled but all i can find is star wars news thanks in advance

Gravatar
By in United States,

^@OldNewLegoFan I was at SDCC 2011 and can't say that I saw any of that kind of stuff. The LEGO booth was kinda weak this year, they mostly had license sets like PotC, Star wars, and sponge bob, along with some Star Wars key chains and also the MBA. I know they had the PotC game on demo so people could try it out, but they had no other kinds of products. If they did have other LEGO products, it must have been at private vendors and thus nothing new. I doubt this though because I pretty much walked up and down every isle.

Hope that helps

By in Australia,

@yys4u thanks for the news mate, that is very helpful hope you enjoyed yourself while you were there, wish i could get over ther oneday to be sucked into all the hype that is sdcc

By in United Kingdom,

Glad I saw the show before I read the "spoiler" title of this news item!

Gravatar
By in France,

Young H Solo ? ... G. Lucas, or how one with no artistic idea can have plenty of business ideas ...

Gravatar
By in United States,

@yys4u yes, yes we've all seen the Plinkett reviews where he talks about not having a young Han in the prequels. As a Lego Star Wars fan I think many of the prequel sets are good regardless of what I think of the movies. As toys they are excellent.

I found it odd that when I pre-ordered the Blu-ray it made me verify that I was over 17 because the movie had "R" rated content. I'm sure it was a mistake with walmart.com.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Guys, I think it's obvious this is non-canon. I'll pick it up anyway. XD

Gravatar
By in United States,

@sharky: Yeah, probably a walmart error.

Gravatar
By in United States,

TLG has made some reaches recently with its Star Wars line. Putting exclusive figs like "young solo" in a DVD pack is now jumping the shark.

I don't like how they are dangling figs/mini-sets in non-set purchases, aka Harry Potter Lab.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@sharky & anyone else pre-ordering the Blu-ray: If you look on the product page it has the product listed as "Not Rated", and thus having the possibility of mature content, hence the age verification. The same notice is also on the Blu-ray/DVD for Clone Wars Season 3. It must just be a safety precaution for its customers, especially since nowadays many Rated R movies will come out with special Unrated editions.

It indicates to me that Walmart has gotten one too many complaints in the past about the ease of young people ordering inappropriate movies online.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@sharky Good! I've been trying to get people to watch those reviews for months. Maybe it can open their eyes to G. Lucas's crimes against humanity...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I hope they relaease this Bluray in the UK some time soon, I would not want to miss out.

Gravatar
By in Philippines,

Does Walmart have a cap/limit on the number of bluray you can pre order? Me and my friends (total of 4) plan just to order as one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gosh, I don't see why everyone is having such a fuss over this. Its just a fun 30 min short film! I think those that are complaining never saw the show.
P.S. And whats this about Ep. 1-3 being a "Open wound?"

Gravatar
By in United States,

@prof1515-How can you say that?! SW is LEGO's best licensed theme ever!

Gravatar
By in United States,

boomakuta! - I agree, starwars rules!

hey! I just came up with an idea on how to make a custom young han. :brown short legs: :2010 slave 1 han body:
:new luke skywalker head: :clone wars anakin hair: and there you go! BTW watch "padawan menace" on youtube.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Unless you have extra components to make a mini Han and don't want the blu ray/DVD, it is better to pre order the movie for $13 w/ free shipping.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool. The Padawan Menace looks awesome, and a rare Han solo minifig? Awesome

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can you preorder just the DVD and minifig without the Blu-Ray?

Gravatar
By in United States,

itsaturkey, there are some people who consider the 30 plus year old Star Wars movies to be the only real Star Wars Saga. They think that everything that is not original is not Star Wars. They are the people sometimes known as the prequel haters.

However, given that none of LEGO Star Wars is canon (Revenge of the Brick, Bombad Bounty, etc.) it does make sense to think that this would follow suit. I found the Padawan Menace to be hilarious and packed with good old family friendly LEGO fun.

By in United States,

personally, the minifig doesnt look that good... If you ask me, its a marketing ploy, but if you like it, dont ask me :-I

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hey, I don't even have a Blu-Ray player, but I bought 4 for the minifig :D

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh, you have to have blu-ray?! That stinks. I don't get the big deal about blu-ray.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The difference between episode 1 2 3 and Clone Wars series, is they actually have a group writing / creative talent team on Clone Wars. Episode 123 was garbage because Lucas had surrounded himself with a legion of "yes" men and had been (or convinced himself) he had writing ability. Episode 1 was an epic disaster, which I think partially shook Lucas into reality, a huge damage control team was assembled to fix what they could on 2 and 3. Thus episode 3 did not completely stink. I get the idea that now Lucas sits in on creative team meetings and nods his head... the way it should be.

Remember folks, because you had a good idea of a concept once does not make you the creative king. Gene Roddenberry was out of Star Trek 2/3 of the way through the original series. Yet we had, 4 spin off TV series (25 seasons) and over 10 movies. Most of which were pretty good.

i swear prequal haters are every where! but anyway this is aint the place to talk about them (saw all three when i was growing up had the same effect those who are long in the tooth say about the orginal trillogy). Anyway this was so good and well worth getting this but im not sure if its coming to the rest of the world; as i dont think it was shown else where. do wal mart ship internationally?
