Great Western LEGO Show - Swindon, UK, 1st & 2nd October

It's a busy time for LEGO fans over the next week or so; as well as BrickCon in the US, it's also time for this year's 'Great Western LEGO Show' at the STEAM railway museum in Swindon, UK. It runs over the weekend of the 1st & 2nd of October, and details of the venue and pricing are available here.

This is one of the premier events of the UK LEGO fan's calendar, and there will be many amazing models on show, along with by their equally amazing builders. Many of the UK members of staff here at Brickset will be in attendance, either exhibiting or helping out with running the event. If you do attend, make sure you swing by and say hello.

By in United Kingdom,

To anyone attempting to persuade a reluctant spouse to come along, as I did last year, you might want to mention the John Lewis factory outlet virtually next door. This year me and the kids are attending the GWL show, and my other half will be visiting John Lewis et.al. in the huge shopping complex next door. Fun for all the family: AFOLS, BFOLS (baby fans of Lego), CFOLS (child fans..) and even NOFOLS (Not a Fan of Lego). The Bs, in case you are wondering, are very well catered for with lots of play tables and bricks to hurl around. And Cs get to spend their pocket money on older Star Wars minifigs in the in-the-flesh BrickLink store. The only problem was the NOFOL's complaint of 'not more ****** bricks' on the drive home.

It's very dangerous taking a NOFOL to Swindon, it's highly likely they'll spend more in the outlet shops opposite than you will on LEGO.

I will be at the event all weekend. I haven't had a whole lot of time to build anything much (too busy running Brickset :-) ) but I have contributed to the main train layout which'll be in the main hall this year.

I hope to see many of you there!

@richselby BFOL. Lol never heard that before. You mention In-The-Flesh bricklink store. I know that wasn't there for the last two years I went. Is there any other new bricklink stores. Just wondering if I could place an order an pick it up there.

Sorry OllieL, that's not a proper noun, just my description of the various sellers which I saw last year, selling older parts + figs, as opposed to the official Lego stand, which rather disappointingly was selling only a curtailed range of new stuff at full whack.

Oh okay I understand now. Well I know SimplyBricks and Minifigforlife had there stores set up for the last two events and are going this year as well. The STEAM website always says a selection of bricklink stores will be attending but only seems to be those two. They do have a good variety of products though.

@TheCahleySlash: There will be lots of Lego on sale, both old and new. The problems are twofold: 1) fitting in the crush of the stores; and 2) paying for it all.

As with the last few years, there will be an official (temporary) LEGO store set up for the duration of the event too.

Simply Bricks will be there, which if other years are anything to go by, will bring a massive selection of sets, parts, bags of loose bricks, minifigs and custom bits and bobs.

By in United Kingdom,

Given how this event is happening on my doorstep, it would be rude not to go :D

@minifigforlife Engraved LEGO bricks definately sound worth coming to say hello for.

By in United Kingdom,

Hey @minifigforlife, any chance of you bringing some 4x4 minifig display cases along so I can buy a couple without having to pay postage?

By in United Kingdom,

Does anyone know if there will be any more shops this year? Perhaps Little Legends or some other UK based company. Also why doesn't somebody bring the Lego Star Wars weapons to sell.

Eh, I'm afraid I'll pass. :P My parents found last year a little disappointing. Anyway, it gets boring after two years... :P
