Super Heroes in Variety magazine

Posted by ,

Variety magazine isn't a place you'd normally look for LEGO news, but Mr Hobbes found this interesting article about LEGO Super Heroes, including pictures of the Superman minifig they'll be giving away at the New York Comic Con that started today.

Oh, and they also have this picture of the new batcave :-)

I thought the picture was Duplo before I viewed it! :P But how cool is that? Know what I want next year

Ooh that's me! Cheers Huw. :)

I wasn't overly enthused by the set itself, but I can't wait for the minifigures. I'm still more interested in the Marvel sets/minifigures but I'm hoping to get a full set of both regardless :D

That is amazing! Hey, Huw why can't I zoom into the picture? Is it just me?

It looks pretty kiddy compared to the one from 2006, and I though that one looked corny, but I love the figs.

^ I'm with you on that - glad I have the original.......

^^ I agree on that the 2006 is waaaaaaaay better than this wierd remake. (Fortunatly I own the 2006 version)

Think of it more as an add-on like all the Hogwarts Castle sets. Each one is another side and some rooms are just cooler.

Hehe, another proud owner of the 2006 Batcave While the new one is certainly not as nice, it is much cheaper and will act as a nice add-on to the previous Batcave.

New Robin, nuff said.

I will be getting this first, if I can.

Wow!!!! I hope we will see more soon!

*Sigh* Not impressed. Aside from the minifigures it really sets the bar quite low... what a waste of money!

I was thinking about getting this, seeing as I recked by 2006 original and lost/traded crucial pieces to some friends. I was severely disappointed by these pictures, which look blocky, kiddish, and use less-than-advanced building techniques. Shame I won't be able to get my hands on the figs though...

Does anybody see any new pieces (besides figs)?

Like everyone else, I was looking forward to this new Batcave in the hope that it would be the equal of 7783 (which I'm lucky to own, having picked it up at a Tuesday Morning store for a fraction of its retail price), if not better. Sadly, it was not to be. The Tim Drake/Robin minifig and the Batcycle will probably prove sufficient for me to buy this one, though. (And MOC the heck out of it.)

Rubbish, I won't waste money on this loud Bat-Nightclub. I'm sure little kids and newer Batman fans will love it but the 2006 is superior. Spend the high price on better value high-brick content sets and build your own.

What a joke, especially for $130aud. It's not even worth half that much. I have to say that I've been very disappointed with the Superheroes sets so far, especially after all the initial hype. The city sets look so much better. I hope that Lego pick up their act when the marvel sets come out later in the year.

Anyone going to NYComicCon?

I will buy a LEGO SUperman, or swap for something on my site: www.StarMars.nl/LEGO

Yep...disappointing for sure! The original Batcave 7783 is way more appealing. At least to me it is and I'm 38 years old. Little kids will like this new batcave...but hey its a toy and thats whats its designed for! kids. Maybe Lego thought the original line was too dark for kids and wanted to change it up a bit? Not sure on that one but does anyone think there is a chance someday for a UCS Batcave with a similar design as the 2006 model 7783?

In an ideal world, the UCS Batcave would be based on Alex Ross' "Kingdom Come" design, which was in turn inspired by the Cloud City carbonite facility. Thus killing two birds with one stone (for me, at least -- I missed out on 10123 and I've been kicking myself for it ever since).

Apart from Poison Ivy and the Batphone, I don't see anything appealing about this set... Everything's so colorful, even Batman! I've been waiting for a chance to get Batman for ages, and I must say, I'm disappointed.

I do like the Bane tank/driller thing, but as far as the set.... Nope! I've seen a couple leaked pics with the Two-Face and Joker sets and they too seem to be the same kiddish theme! This is too bad since I've had such high hopes to add to my Batman collection. The Superman/Lex Luthor looks good... but I've already taken off some of these Super Hero sets from my wanted list :(

These "Colorful" sets fit perfectly with comics, why does everyone complain about it? makes no sense.

By in Canada,

Hi-res picture at FBTB. The new Robin looks awesome.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Reevaluating the hi-res picture, it does look better than I originally thought, but still could've used more advanced designs.

By in United Kingdom,

^^^ I agree. It all depends what your point of reference is for Batman: comics, 60s film/series, Tim Burton, Christopher Nolan... I like all of those, and I think TLG have just gone down the road most likely to appeal to their target market, hence bright colours. I missed out on pretty much all the previous Batman sets and am really looking forward to getting these new ones. TBH though, I'd probably buy them just for the minifigs.
