2 Day Sale at Toys R Us

Forest Police Station

Valid Tuesday 11/22 thru Wednesday 11/23, Toys R Us is running yet another Buy One, Get One 50% Off promotion. This sale, however, excludes Star Wars and apparently only applies to "Regular-Priced LEGO construction sets." I'm sure we could argue with TRU what constitutes a "regular" price, but I digress.

Update: As expected, "Discounted" sets were indeed included in the sale when it launched though TRU will likely fix that.

Update 2: Brickset Forum member sidersdd has provided coupon code "TONSOFFUN" to get $15 off $100+ orders.

Are TRU prices in the states more than S@H prices in the states? Canadian TRU and S@H are usually exactly the same.

Too bad they are charging +$10 on the 4439 Heavy duty chopper, would match great with 5885 Triceratops Trapper if it wasn't

@ Dimefield - YES, TRU prices in the states are HIGHER than S@H, Target, Wal-mart, and the rest. The markup ranges from 10-20%, and it is ridiculous. There are a few sets which are not marked up, but they are not desirable. BUT, I read somewhere and have noticed+confirmed that sets at TRU will be MSRP for the first 1-2 weeks (contract terms with TLG, I presume) and are raised immediately after. For this reason, along with poor customer service, I boycott TRU. Who needs them anyways!?

I am in Phoenix AZ and I don't see it yet. Is it from a certain time?

@starfire2, sale starts tomorrow... Looks to be the same that they had over the weekend.... hopefully they re-stocked some items as they were out of all the good stuff...

Knowing TRU, it wouldn't surpise me if the deal ends up working on discounted sets as well. Set your alarm for 12:01... :o)

^--- thats 12:01am Eastern standard time (US) :-)

Actually sales tend to start a few minutes earlier or later for TRU sales.. depends whenever the Admins get the sale prices started I guess.

Yup, just as suspected... This morning ALL the sets had inventory, now i see a good chunk of the popular more pricier sets are all out of stock.

Such a crock.

Sorry didn't see that. I didn't read to post carefully.

Good to know I'm not the only one that notices that practice. Same deal with the past 2 in store "FREE" item promotion.

Sorry for the downer fellow collectors (

Since many of the 2012 sets are still at MSRP this could be a good time to get some of those. The store I work at has a decent supply for most of the 2012 sets that have been released so far.

The email TRU sent out regarding this deal included a picture showing some sets that are currently on sale through Wednesday. However, that doesn't necessarily mean the BOGO deal will work with them as it seems TRU likes to confuse their customers.

It's live right now.

The problem with the online sale is that it is limited to 1 discount per order. So it's only a good deal if you can find sets large enough for the $49 free shipping to kick in. I snatched all of the bigger sets I wanted during previous sales, so this sale looks to be a pass for me.

Would love to combine this with other coupons/gift certificates I have but, I agree with others - limited selection, markups, etc make it hard to find something. May head to the store tomorrow though. Tis the season, right? :)

I really don't like TRU much at all. The only time I've actually made a LEGO purchase was when I found the Series 4 Hockey Player, which I hadn't found any where else. But I still paid an extra $0.50. And I had come in looking for Series 3, because on the website it said they had them in stores, but the employee said they weren't stocking them any more. I do agree with Neiljam; they do like to confuse their customers.

The sale over the weekend was a lot more organized. There was a single place where you would find everything. Now I have to jump through hoops to find the sets. Also, the stuff that they were sold out of on Sunday they are still out. Why bother showing it on your website if you don't have it... True, they also have them at their store, but they don't have the capabilities to tell you which store has it in stock. I guess if you want something bad enough you'll drive to get it...

This past weekend was my first purchase through the mail from them, I'm terrified to see what shape they'll arrive. I bought 2 train sets together in the same order to get the 50% off, they confirmed the order right away but are shipping the sets separately? One set will be here tomorrow, the other one hasn't shipped... Not very organized...

I guess these sales are geared towards the cheaper stuff, but if you want to get the nicer (more expensive sets) then you are stuck going to the lego store/website...

The problem is that TRU does this all the time.
They just had a BOGO sale last week, and as a result all of the 'good' sets are sold out... Most of the only stuff left is the stuff that no one buys because of the price increases....

I want the new city, but I can wait on that. I want to get the older sets ready to depart from production.

@davidrod8 - You can see all LEGO sets at once online if you simply search for another word, i.e. LOST and then change the 2 instances of "LOST" in the url to "LEGO." You'll then get one massive list of 700+ parts. Additionally, they do indeed have the ability to show you which stores have that item in stock via their "store pickup" option. Please note that the LEGO Direct items will not have a "store pickup" option. As for items being out of stock, I'd rather have too many BOGO sales than too few. :o)

Scary thing was I just realized, last night, TRU was allowing 'up to 3' discounted 1/2 price items.

I didn't notice it till this morning when I tried again, AND NOW you can only buy 1 item. They have never allowed more than 1 discounted item in ages, missed that opportunity!!

It seems that the"store pickup" option does not work on the newest sets ie. Dino, new city, etc. My TRU has most of the new sets with no markup (although I am sure that will change.) I pretty much get the sets when they first come out or just wait till sales. I feel like they have sales often enough to be able to get what you want. When in doubt, I wait a few months and go to Target, they seem to have quite a good LEGO selection.

@mshiels: TRU's system is so messed up anyway.. In the item description I see that there is limit 2 or a limit three, then when you try to put that amount into the cart it drops it to 1 saying you have reached the maximum number in the cart... It is a joke and TRU needs to fix their online system once and for all.

Well, what do you know. Another TRU sale... I think that it is necessary for them to do these because of the extra "TRU fee" they tack on top of everything. I dunno, though. It would be nice to get certain sets before many other people by going to TRU, but I have both a LEGO store practically right around the corner and a decent amount of patience... I'll wait until certain sets come out and then save money.

I went to a brick and mortar TRU today to try and take advantage of the bogo sale and was disappointed. The store had a great supply of the new sets including the Black Pearl and the Alien Conquest Earth Defense HQ (2 sets my 5 year old son has asked for this Christmas) but both of those sets were already marked down $10 (usd) and therefore were not eligible for the promotion. I planned to pick up the Dino Defense HQ and could not find a comparable set for the same cost to make the bogo a good deal. There were multiple other sets that had similar markdowns and were also not eligible for the bogo sale. I ended up picking up the Creator Lighthouse to pair with the Dino HQ as my daughter has expressed intrest in it but this wasn't the best use of the bogo discount. By the way the $10 markdowns end on the 24th of November a day after the bogo sale completes. At least there will be some reward dollars in 2012 to use on the new Star Wars sets.

I'm frustrated with TRU. I really tried to take advantage of this offer, been looking at it since it went online two days ago and I can't pull the trigger. I cannot find what I want, there's always a problem. Either the items are not available or their prices are higher than S@H. The TONSOFFUN code no longer works, sigh!
I guess I'll wait until Friday and go to the Lego Store and pick up what I WANT...
