Advent day 6

Posted by ,

Day 6Today, we have a Christmas themed mini-model in the City calendar which makes a change from pieces of wall. The model's not too bad, but a 1x1 round brick for the trunk would have been a better choice, IMO.

Day 6Chewbacca makes an appearance in the Star Wars calendar. He's a great figure but perhaps a bit of a disappointment given that he already features in two other sets this year.

Also, I reckon his mould could do with a bit of a refresh as it's still the same as it was in 2000 when first released. More recent figures, such as this year's Watto, make it look somewhat crude in comparison.

By in United States,

I'm getting the sw calender for Christmas and this makes me want it now for the calender. I agree i do think they should refresh the Chewbacca minifig since it is so outdated. They should have addede a Wookie Warrior instead of Chewie.

And still no toilet roll-related jokes. :P

@alemas, Well, the tree doesn't have a topper (angel for some), so you could put an extra toilet roll on the peak. :P

Not a bad pair, but who really needs another Chewie? The tree is alright, a nice height next to the figures.

"It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas..." :)
Yay! Although it's small the Christmas tree is a nice little addition (Perhaps it's meant to be put in the police station?)
Chewie keeps on slipping through my hands :P Him and C-3PO are the last two classic minifigs I do not yet have, and it's driving me crazy!
I agree with Huw that Chewie could use a update, maybe just a coloring in the eyes.
Pretty nice Advent Day!
Alemas: Why did the crook escape prison? Because he had TP, yet had no one to throw it at! :P (This is when everyone laughs)

@Jonbuddy: Actually, Huw appears to have made a mistake, my calender shows a stud on top of the tree. So no, toilet free day.

I also haven't yet managed to get my hands on a Chewie minifig...I quite like the current one, though. I would say 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. That mould for Chewie is obviously recognisable and simple. Why would it need updating? It looks enough like him already. I like it at least.

Chewie needs eyes.

The Christmas tree looks sort of bad in that photo. Dust, and It is incomplete.

i dislike that they had the chewy but i somehow keep forgeting to get a set with him

By in United States,

I think a Chewie with eyes would look creepy. This mould works just as well and C-3PO's does.

By in United Kingdom,

I like todays Xmas tree and glad it wasn't another part of the police station and has no one realized that the mini figure from day one looks like LEGO's version of Harry from Home Alone complete with gold tooth :)

By in N/A,

My 10 year old son has Chewie already, but was really hoping that this figure would have the crossbow since it was in the picture on the front of the box. He had seen that it wasn't with the picture of the minifig on the side so he wasn't really surprised, but was still disappointed. If they aren't going to include something with the calender then it should not be pictured on the box.

Chewie appears in way too many sets. Man, I'm getting sick of Chewie. Perhaps a new mold would change my thoughts.. They've done excellent refreshing many of the older minifigs. I was really impressed with the new Boba Fett and Darth Maul.

^^Have patience! Your calendar isn't done yet. ;-)

By in United States,

Thanks for doing these, their cool to see since I never buy the calenders.

@Huw Also, perhaps Chewie was included because he is outdated, and Lego has a new mold ready for him but is just trying to get rid of surplus. Just a thought :P

@meyerc13 Try telling that to a kid with aspergers ;) It is all we can do to make him wait until the next day. He wants to set his alarm for midnight so he can open the next one.

By in N/A,

BTW, I found a complete pic of the set and I think he will be happy tomorrow ;) Thanks for the heads up Meyerc! I was about to shoot a mean letter off to Lego

Apparently I've been fooled into thinking that Wookiees were from Kashyyyk... I learned today that China must be their point of origin.

In other news, I've got a worthless blob of brown plastic that anyone is welcome to.

@bzzybee75, What a good idea! I'll set my alarm for 12:00 tonight. :P

I was just wonder that... what time do you all open your door? When I was younger, our family would have an advent candle that we lit each night at dinner. I suppose due to that, I usually open mine in the early evening. If I were a still the age of a child, I'd want to open it first thing in the morning as well!

By in United States,

@itsaturkery: Dang, and I have three of him. :P

Anyway...... I am somewhat disappointed with the simple inclusion of minifigs. Part of it might be that since my brother and I alternate days, he has gotten to do the Republic Cruiser, Slave 1, and Nute's chair whereas I have only put together the Spider Droid, Nute, and Chewie... I dunno, I would have prefered them all to be mini vehicles. Ah, well, at least I get to do the last one which will likely be Santa Yoda. :P

By in United States,

I open mine when I get home from work while I am fixing dinner. But I am a couple of days ahead because I am traveling for Christmas. So, I am counting down to the begining of my vacation. I loved the one I open today!

By in United States,

I usually open mine in the late morning. Opening the doors at midnight is technically accurate but seems wrong as its not really "the next day". You've given into your kids on what presents they want. Don't give in to this. That includes you crazies who open one present the night before Christmas!! Your family traditions be darned!! I don't mind the inclusion of the mini figs, but they should be interesting and by looking at the box the only interesting ones we see are Yoda and the black R2. I know I could cheat and look up spoilers of this set on this site, but where is the fun in that. Also the additional rebel pilot goes well with my set 7754 Home One Mon Calimari Star Cruiser.

Blockman: *I faint* :P
Perrymakes: Wait, YOU DON'T WANT YOUR CHEWIE! CAN I HAVE HIM PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE :P
I usually wake up, have my breakfast while I watch a little old comedic TV show (Dick Van Dyke Show, Munsters, I Love Lucy :P Then get my Advent Calender. Considering the new AC's don't include a lot of content for price, my mom will break up the "Winter Exclusive" into small parts. We have a painted wooden AC that she puts a clue in, then I go find where the little baggie of pieces plus Xeroxed instructions, in which I include in my seasonal village Moc.

By in United States,

i think they can make chewie much better but at least the tree is good

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I agree with you on the Chewbacca point.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@PerryMakes. You're right, chewie has moved to china along with 90% of the minifigs i received this year. BLAH!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'am fine how the chewbacca minifig is and I don't think it needs any updating, but I wish He did not come in the advent calendar since I already have 4 of him (Why can't they give us more exclusive minifigs like the printed boba Fett from the Cloud-city,Zam wessel or Jabba the Hutt?)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like the chwie figure but where is his weapon? He has one on the box or will there but weapons coming later in thr month?

Gravatar
By in Norway,

I`m fine with getting Chewbacca. Hopefully We also gonna get his bowcaster on later stage!

Re-visiting Lego after a 30 year absence, loving the Brickset site and all the comments. The SW Advent Calendar is my first adventure into SW Lego. Liked getting Chewie, but thought he should be a little bit taller (and eyes would be nice) and have a weapon. Opened the 7th door this morning and wasn’t disappointed, can’t wait to get back home to put Chewie and the 7th items together!

By in United Kingdom,

@the reviewer, I think Jabba the Hutt would make for a somewhat larger advent calendar. Though it does currently seem that the calendar is a way of offloading excess pieces/figures. More fun/exclusive figures like the Yoda would have made it more of a 'must get' for me.

Personally I was hoping for another part of the police station. Can't wait till its finished. As someone who works for the police I like all the police stuff but they could try to make them more realistic. Our force only has one helicopter, our mobile police unit is a large van not a lorry and hasn't been used in over 3 year and our only boat is a 42ft launch which belongs to the underwater search unit and is shared with 3 other forces. On the other hand we have lots of different types of cars... Response cars, traffic cars, crime cars, cid cars, 4x4s, riot vans, armed response vehicles, cctv vans, anpr vans etc...

By in United Kingdom,

@ Huw Your right in that the chewbacca figure needs to be more detailed but I don't think it's the mould that's the problem - its the printing. For a start, he needs eyes! and a paler colour printed around his facial features and on some areas of his body would make him look much better too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^You're right brix. Some contrast of tone on Chewbacca would fix him right up. Doesn't really need a new mold at all. Also, he needs to have an accurately made Bowcaster instead of the crossbow w/arrow on top weapon.

As far as opening, my kid gets up early before school and opens. It's been alotta' fun. Wonder if Lego would consider a Halloween Advent as well for next Oct.

By in United States,

Even if TLC doesn't want to update Chewie's body, at least give the poor Wookie longer arms and legs.

@ The Reviewer

No offense but I'm happy having a zam wessel and jabba the hut that many don't have. :)
