Advent day 8

Posted by ,

Day 8A nice piece of furniture awaits you in today's City calendar: a comfy bed for the prison cell.

Day 8In the Star Wars calendar we have our third minifig: Dack Ralter, who apparently, served as Luke's gunner in the Battle of Hoth. This is the fourth Dack minifig we've had, but the first to feature anything other than a classic smiley face. However this is not a new print, it's been used for various pilots recently including Zev Senesca. It would have been better had it had a printed helmet like the other Dack's, but it's still a nice addition to any Star Wars minifig collection.

Oh, it's a bed. I though it was an odd desk.

Ok, they may say that the pilot is Dack, but this is NOT dack. Dack's helmet had two blue Alliance Starbids on it, a part which Lego has made multiple times. The plain white helmet appears in some Star Wars work, but seems to be rather rare in-universe. In Lego though, it gives some variety to MOC pilot squads who all seem to be sporting suspiciously Luke and Dack styled helmets...

In regards to the city entry: a bit weak.

Least i'm not the only one who thought it was a desk, I only realized it wasn't when I saw the picture on here :P

Did anyone else get a spare mug?

Hmmm...a bed that looks like a desk or a SW minifigure. Gotta say it's not really a toss up. Glad I got the SW set to open and not the city set.

By in United States,

I disagree that the the pilot is Dack Ralter. I think it is really supposed to be just a regular pilot in the star wars univeres (You can use it as Zev's gunner in the Hoth wampa cave set)

Bricklink thinks it's Dack, but I guess it could actually be any random rebel pilot.

Would have been nice to have a printed helmet and a different face, but I'll still take it!

LEGO should make other types of Rebel pilots, like a B- or A-wing pilot.

@ Thomson and Thompson

Lego has, just peruse the archives here and take a look at the A-Wing and B-Wing sets. Admittedly they could use an uograde as well...

In the grand scheme of things, I still don't see how a jail cell has anything to do with Christmas. The city calender is confusing me this year to no end. I am glad I have the Star Wars one.

I always thought it was a general X-Wing Pilot. Dack has those marking on his helmet.
Does the head match up with any previous X-Wing figs?
EDIT...Ooops, didn't read the whole article...it's Zev but the helmet is plain.

Also, I was wrong about the City Calendar...it seems to be a hit with kids. Has more scenery for them to play and build around.
As an AfoL, the Star Wars works for me and maybe in the future they'll theme Star Wars Advents for each of the movies. I want a Darth Santa!!!

A bit dull basically, simples...

I was a little disappointed with Dack, the white printing was a little faded against his orange torso

My 5 year old son loves his City calendar. As he is quite new to building LEGO these little items give him lots of fun and he can't wait to get home from school to build the next one :)

Oh wow the Star Wars calendar gets a micro Rebel blockade runner set and the City set gets an escaped mental hospital prisoner!

I'm just gonna use him as a rebel pilot, although he does stick out, being the only one. Liked lego to have either made him Zev or Dac. Why does lego do this to us?

By in Norway,

I have several Rebel pilots in my collection, bu all of them has the older standard yellow faces, and the first version of torso, so I`m very happy to get a brand new version of "unknown" rebel pilot!

@RJH
I also have an extra mug but also extra cheese slopes, 2 brown bricks and an axe.

I'm suprised so many people are upset about the blank rebel pilot helmet. its essentially a brand new part and a customizers dream come true. I also think of it as generic pilot. Its funny, I bought the calendar for myself and my mother-in-law (loves Star Wars). The day I got chewbacca I was like...woo...another chewbacca...and she was practically dancing with happiness...its all about perspective boys :D

I have 2 CITY calenders for my boys and 1 got the bed, the other a snowmobile from the same #8 door. Anyone else have any anomalies?

I agree about the helmet: The Zev and Dack Helmets are quite common at this point, and I don't think the white helmet existed outside of misprints before. The white helmet is especially nice since the pattern on the helmet is usually unique to a specific character, so this helmet literally creates a pilot with no identity whatsoever. The more steady-handed among us could even had paint it to match their favourite pilot's pattern. The blank whte helmet probably would have been great in the Hoth battlepack in hindsight, since the characters in those tend to be generic, while the included helmet limits the identity to Zev and Zev alone.

The prison beds have gotten nicer over the years. My Police Command Base #6386 from 1986 has a prison cell with the same style bed with coffee mug but no pillow. Now I know where our tax dollars are going...Prisoner Pillows. :-)
