Brickset upgrade completed

Posted by ,

I've completed the upgrade -- let me know what you think about it, or if you encounter any problems.

Update: The 'My sets' owned/wanted lists should now be working again.

By in United States,

I like the new upgrade, but might I suggest enabling people to click the name of a set as WELL as the set number to go to the review page?

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

I had to abort -- the site was running far too slowly. Will try again when I have more time to diagnose the problems. I won't need to touch the database again though, so review and record your collection as normal.

Gravatar
By in Bulgaria,

I missed the new one too! :( I hope that you'll fix it.
I would like to have the ability to show when I own more than 1 copy of a set - I hope I explained this well enough.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The new version is very shiny.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool update! :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nice new look Huw! I like the new borders and larger fonts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

tHE NEW review system wont let me review things.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool, good work Huw. But, I just don't like those clouds in the browse section. Any way to permanently switch them off? I tried that button but if I refresh it it just reverts back to the clouds. What should I do?

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

@Imperial13, thanks for your suggestion -- I'll get it to save the setting in a cookie so it remembers your preference.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thanks Huw, hope it goes well!

By in United States,

I tried posting my rreveiw for the beach house and it said:
invalid object name veiwSets...
When I wen't to search "pirates" it said:
No results=675(main) :| (only once)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ability to state I own more than 1 of a set... My biggest request. THANK YOU.

Now I just have to remember which these are true for!!

Nice. Now I can edit/delete posts

Is there a list of changes someplace? BTW, line breaks don't work in posts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's lookin nice Huw! I'll have to keep lookin 'round and I'll report back if I have any issues!

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Question..Why have the links to purchase sets from say e-bay and bricklink been removed?? is LEGO dictating the site!!!...this now reduceses the effectiveness of the site to me..and i will now go directly to them instead of coming here...ah well..good while it lasted.

Gravatar
By in United States,

on the browse page you should heavily bold the Starwars tag

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

@Denver_80203:

> Now I can edit/delete posts Is there a list of changes someplace?

No, you can only do that for an hour after posting so I don't think that will be needed

>BTW, line breaks don't work in posts.

They appear to for me...

Thanks, now fixed.

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

@JSB23,

> on the browse page you should heavily bold the Starwars tag

The font weight is based on the number of sets in the theme as as Star Wars doesn't have as many as some it is not as bold as some.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sweet... So now you don't have to copy and paste! I Have been reading posts and writing reveiws from my iPod touch and I can't copy and paste! This will be very helpful huw!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Overall, I love the new site.

Like:

Abilty to record how many of each set owned
Comment pages
Review pages
Ability to sort legoshop.com sets by price
Search Page
Abilty to edit/delete comment
Blue Background
LOVE the homepage, new sets at legoshop.com and the side scroll feature with prices :)
Lists Tab

Don't Like:

The browse page, I don't like how the words are all different sizes and some not capitalized and stuff
Any words that are like that

Oh, also this isn't really a don't like, just a comment (haha i love this ability to edit comments :)) If some words or phrases don't fit, (like on the homepage) they get cut off or put out of the box.

The new site ROCKS!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also thx for the edit and delete button this will prevent these little posts that are corrections to previous posts!! Ur amazing!

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

@Kulturkampf,

> Don't Like:
> The browse page, I don't like how the words are all different sizes and some not capitalized and stuff

That does seem unpopular -- I think I'll make the normal list the default!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sweet... So now you don't have to copy and paste! I Have been reading posts and writing reveiws from my iPod touch and I can't copy and paste! This will be very helpful huw!

Gravatar
By in United States,

One last thing. How about a...

Minifig head we users could create that would popup next I posts or reveiws

Chatroom - to discuss topics we see on homepage

Sorry for all these posts! Hope I didn't pile on too many things to think about!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The new sites sweet Huw! I like it a lot. Just one question: I noticed that the 'Top reviewers of the month' and of all time box things are gone. What happened to them?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

@Jonbuddy: It was great, but i couldn't buy any LEGO because the shop wasn't open

I think the new website looks great, it's nice to view sets right in the middle of the page

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

@Eerex Sweeher,

Top reviewers has gone. One reason being that it encouraged people to post a lot of 'worthless' reviews just to get into the list.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Smart thinking! Who needs a worthless reveiw?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Good idea. 'Nother thing: I like the 'Your Recent searches' box but what of the 'Braoden Your Search' Box? Sorry if I'm askin' too many questions...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can you add an auto refresh?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I like the new home page with the recent additions to the site as well as to LegoShop.

I tried to access my sets. I was able to access the first page but when I clicked next to access the second page, I ended up in all sets. I had the options to narrow my search or access the sets I own or want but I came back to my sets first page.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, cool update. And thanks to this update I see that the 2009 sets are already out?
Sweet. I need to do some shopping later.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sorry, but not everybody has a wide computer screen, I think you should change it back.

Gravatar
By in France,

Nice update Huw. As for each new version of a website, I will need some times to adapt myself :)

The "Skip to main content" link always refers to the home page. Not sure if it is the intended behavior...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sorry just testing line breaks

test1

test2

---fail. Wonder why this is true for me? I'm just hitting enter at the end of the line. standard windows XP machine. when i edit the post again.. the line breaks are there. Editing for an hour is more than enough thanks.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Congrats on getting everything sorted out. This new site is AMAZING!

Gravatar
By in Bulgaria,

The new site is cool. But why I can't view how many of each sets I have WITHOUT being logged into the site? Please, fix this :(
Also, will you think of a print-friendly version?

Gravatar
By in United States,

AWESOME, that's all I can say. Is there a forum or something there yet?

Gravatar
By in United States,

PROBLEM!!!! Way too long loading the home page!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow this site looks awesome

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Wow! This is awesome!

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's good, but I actually liked the "cloud" list, and now it seems to be gone...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looking good - obviously a lot of work gone in to it. It all just seems to flow a lot better as you browse. Cheers.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

For some reason there is only one page of reviews, and , despite being logged in, I can't access either my sets or reviews posted by me. There are still some small problems that I hope you can fix ASAP.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the new site. It is cool but i still cant look at my sets

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I tried posting a review less than two minutes ago, but couldn't. I gave up and came here after clicking "submit" somewhere in the area of seventeen times.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Mr.F, it did work; the same review was submitted multiple times ... not your fault, the site is occasionally running very slow, resulting in long delays sometimes. If it happens again, try hitting submit again once or twice, but it doesn't need 17 times ;-)

Huw's aware of some of the problems as the new site 'settles in'; he'll sort them as soon as he's able. The occasional slowness is the biggest problem at the moment, so he's focussing on that first.

Apologies about the 'my sets' funtionality not working properly at the moment; I suspect that'll be next on the list to sort ...

Cheers,
Ian

Gravatar
By in United States,

The new site is awesome! Good job Huw!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't know if this is actually a problem but I just posted a reiew for the Thuder Driller and it went through but it doesn't show my name. It just says posted by a Brickset user!

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

@Eerex Sweeher, I noticed that, not sure why that's happening but I'm working on it. I take it you were logged in when you reviewed it (you can't get to the review for otherwise, so you must have been)

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Good job huw! The new "modern" style is great and also the new photo-enlargement feature is very useful. Only one thing to ask, why have you eliminated from the page "review" all the older reviews and why have you kept only the newer?

Gravatar
By in United States,

AWESOME!

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

@charg-card, what size is your screen?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I found one probelm huw, when you click on most wanted sets, it brings you to top rated sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Moderate change was good. Thanks again for the number of each set upgrade. I do miss the broaden your search options...I used that a lot. Also could the pink and blue backgrounds for "haves and wants" be made a little more pronounced? It can be really hard to tell sometimes at a glance. I also noticed that recent searches (a very nice addition btw) puts the listings in alphabetical order...any chance of making it in the order last viewed instead? All and all though, great job and thanks sooooo much for the hard work...it looks very good!

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

@Captin Rex, thanks, now sorted.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Huw, Can you edit or delete your reviews for an hour after you have posted it?

Gravatar
By in United States,

This site is awesome!

Gravatar
By in United States,

When you click on "BrickMaster in the "browse" menu only one set comes up...none of the sets from the last year or so come up...specifically 20002 to 20007. This is true of "This year" and the newer sets also don't show up for "all themes." Sorry if too much at once, just helping out up front if I can.

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

@legolover94, no, not currently.

@MatrixQuest, I didn't do broaden your search because you can get the same effect by clicking on one of the theme/subtheme/year links in the results table. I'd like to put recent searches in the order you did them but in order to remove duplicates it does a 'distinct' query which requies that they are sorted. If duplicates don't matter too much then I could do it easily. LMKWYT

Gravatar
By in United States,

The only negative I see with the new format is the links for buying sets off eBay and Bricklink are gone. It made it so easy to check to see if any of my wanted sets are available on these sites.

Gravatar
By in United States,

When do you plan to fix the my sets tab, Huw? No rush and/or pressure, I just wanted to know.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hate to keep buggin' you Huw but that reveiw I told you about is gone now. Did you take thereveiws that didn't have a member name on the off the site? Or is it a problem with the site? I'm just wondering so I know whether or not to rewrite the reveiw. Again sorry for bugging you so much!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hey huw! Take a look at my previous suggestions! Sorry to bug you but they would be really cool!

Gravatar
By in United States,

No ebay link?

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I like the update, thanks a lot! Very nice site as well btw which I just recently discovered...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Its pretty awsome

Gravatar
By in United States,

Eerex Sweeher:

Not all reviews with no names- look at 6915: Warp Wing Fighter.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I found another problem huw, When you go to your list of lego sets that you own , it won't let you see them.

Gravatar
By in Argentina,

I miss the "Today's random Set" function... To me, it made me know a lot of new sets... The rest, is GREAT!!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

the font size is smart, as well as the edit comment thing i just had to use.amazing site!i now understand the prob in my other comment so nvr mind that

Gravatar
By in United States,

Huw, this is great. If you remember my comment waaaay back from june 1st, you will know that i am happy that a lot of the key features were left on the site.

Gravatar
By ,

So what was the point of the change? Just to say you changed something and made it worse? The sets look a lot better on the side then on the top of the page.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

As a great fan of the site and user with alot of sets registered in the database, i think the upgrade is great. This has been and will be my number one source and site. Keep up the fantastic work...

Best regards from a LEGO fan from Norway and have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the way that the URL addresses we post in comments are now hyperlinks.

Amazng Update Huw!

P.S. I also love how we can modify our comments without having to double post. That is Great!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yeah definitely great for the site.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't mind multiple listings as per our earlier discussion on the order of the "your recent searches" but see what everyone else thinks. I also really miss the link to an eBay search...I used that for most of my wants on a regular basis....Please, please, please...bring it back.

PS--I also really like the ability to edit posts now and the new additions scroll feature is awesome...no more pulling up a new page to see what you might have missed!

Gravatar
By in N/A,

This site is amazing,Huw!You must have a lot of time on your hands!

P.S.love the editing button! No more double posting!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I did like the random set of the day feature. Maybe that can be added later.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ya me to i miss that but he rest looks great

Gravatar
By in Canada,

For some reason there is only one page of reviews. Absolutely NOTHING before the 27th. On the upside I like the ability to edit posts up to an hour later. I HATED having to double-post before when I forgot to say something.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I miss the cool "browse" options, such as "view top rated sets", "view sets without Star Wars", etc. Can you bring them back?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Site looks great. Cant wait till its all working.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What's this hour later thing? I was able to edit my comment the second after I posted it.

Also, dragon_teenager, that is now under the "Lists" Tab.

Gravatar
By in Philippines,

I like the re-designed site and it's new features (Despite it being slower), hope the problems are fixed very soon.
Also, like some others, I miss the "excluding Star Wars...." features in the sets most owned, etc. Can you add it back ?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Huw,

What happened to the "expand your search" section in addition to narrowing? I used that all the time to go back and forth between themes and years.

Also, I emailed you about this months ago, but thought I'd mention it again: the owned and wanted background colors are practically indistinguishable for me and anyone else with mild red/green color blindness.

All in all a fantastic redesign!

(Also, what do you do for a living, if you don't mind my asking in a public forum? I was glad to see someone else using .NET instead of PHP ;)

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Wow, I was just on MOCPages and saw the update there, now here too! Can't wait till I really check it out thoroughly.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

i also miss the "view top rated sets" and them browse options, however, i love the fact i can zoom in on a picture of a reviewed model instead of being taken to that page, its makes things a whole lot faster.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

I like the new website, it's definitely a good improvement, THANKS! :)

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

Replies to various posts:

These are now under the Lists tab

> The "Skip to main content" link always refers to the home page. Not sure if it is the intended behavior...

Thanks, I'll fix that

> I also really miss the link to an eBay search...I used that for most of my wants on a regular basis....Please, please, please...bring it back.

I should be able to do that, but probably only for sets that are no longer available from LEGOShop.com.

> I miss the "excluding Star Wars...." features in the sets most owned, etc. Can you add it back ?

OK, will do

> For some reason there is only one page of reviews. Absolutely NOTHING before the 27th

The reviews tab just shows one page of them now as I didn't want to implement paging on that page (but I might do it at some point). You can still read older ones from the individual set pages.

Thanks everyone for your generally positive comments. There's room for improvement with the site and I'm committed to listening to its users and implementing whatever I can and is sensible to do.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Why do you choose to get rid of the Brickfactory instructions link? I can understand it for the new sets, but for me it was ok for the old ones.

The rest looks quite good. I personally would like to see the menü back on the left side but it probably needs just some getting used to.

Thanks for your work!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Another vote for Today's Random Set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

how often is the list updated?, especially the sets available in the uk and not usa and vise versa from shop.lego.com

Gravatar
By in United States,

Another vote for Today's Random Set. That was one of my fave parts!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The scroller w/ pics doesn't work w/ me

Gravatar
By in United States,

The new upgrade is way to cool! I like it HUW. very nice.

Gravatar
By in Thailand,

Everything looks very nice to me.

I like very much the zoom for the thumbnails of each set, with prev and next arrows as well and also the fact that now you can add more sets of the same kind on the "my sets" tab.
two suggestions:
1) whenever you make a search and you get a list of sets, it would be nice to see a button (or just click on the title) that allows to order the results by sets number, price (if available), rating, and year of production.
Many sets number are not progressive with the year of production, and would be the only way to see the progress made year by year of the same theme.
2) I would personally like to see each set "I own" or "I want" in a more visible way, like the whole line in green or pink.

Anyway, very good job!
(line break doesn't work in this post)

Gravatar
By in United States,

its no big deal, but the famous searches with 2 words MOSTLY say thing%20thing E.g. "Clone%20Wars

Gravatar
By in United States,

Huw, why is it %20 instead of the plus sign over on the side of the front page in the search listings?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would also like the Brickfactory link back, that was what I used the most. Random set of the day must return! I've also noticed one other thing, if you look at someone's profile, why can't you see reviews that they've posted?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The new site is great. Good job!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the new site, except for two things which I want HUW to fix.

-I want the feature of the random set of the day back!
-I liked the links to eBay and stuff

Bring them back, Huw!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I agree with wadaltmon, but it doesn't matter about the links. I sorta liked the random sets. Pretty cool update, but it is now sorta harder to navigate and find the older star wars sets.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

We should be able to set the region to Canada, not just USA and the UK.

Cool! we can edit or delete our posts!

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Nice changes, Huw. The design and organization of the site has increased in my opinion. But I think that all the reviews posted by the members should be seen per pages instead of only one page with not all the reviews posted by the members. Anyways, if you think that it will not be helpful, don't change it.

And I agree with Da_LegoBuilder that now is a bit hard to find some old sets in the database.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why did you delete the "Random Set of the Day" feature? I liked that.

Despite that, the site is great!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also, where is the option to read all of one's reviews ever put on Brickset?

Gravatar
By in United States,

What I mean is where it says "read reviews posted by *user*".

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Thanks for updating the site. I LIKE IT.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Reply to Huw: I mean my computer monitor is small.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Huw the number of sets owned feature is nice but is it possible to add set varients to the database for sets such as sets : 8144,4032,8142,7893, 7894 ect ect. as these sets have at least a couple of different varients it would allow for a more accurate collection representation.just a suggestion but let me know

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Hey Huw,

I remember last time you made an update/asked for suggestions I requested a way to sort my "Sets I Want" and "Sets I Own" lists in orders other than their set number (namely year, rating, etc.). I'm just wondering if anything like this could be done sometime?

Cheers, Mr.Dunlop

Gravatar
By in Finland,

I think it looks nice ...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Here is my review on the site:

Look
I don't know why but I liked the older look a bit more. The colors were clearer and more fun (this one is a bit too dark and serious). I liked better the smaller font on browsing page and the theme column is a bit too long. Also I like better the old homepage with 3 columns.
I don't really like the look of the brick icons in the set rating. I liked the old one better.
I do like the scrolling gallery in the home page and the quick shopper feature! I also like the My sets page
I just think we need more pics of lego sets in pages, more images! Right now the site looks so serious (and abit boring)!

Functions
The best part of the new site are the functions like the scrolling menu, the quick shopper and the zooming feature on the images (that is very cool!) Also the editing/deleting of posts is fantastic!

Content
In the browsing section I like the listing of the number of sets in each category.

I guess if you make the background color a lighter blue or have other background to posts and comment than grey (which have everything a bit darker) then it will be abit nicer and include more images in each page so it doesn't look like a site for school (Its true it does look like a school site) but more like a play site then it would be fine!

Anyway thanks for the hard work and the humongous job.Its awesome! :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is it possible you could post a list of members somewhere? I need to contact a member however i can't get to his profile since there is no longer a top ten reviewers list.
I had this idea where you have a list of all the members in alphabetical order with a link to their profile and the number of reviews next to them- this is because you can find members quicker and it tells you how many reviews they have posted, which you can't find anywhere else.

Gravatar
By in Philippines,

i like that there is a quantity now but i don't like the menu on the right side of the window since i don't usually keep my browser as big as my whole screen; sucks to scroll to the right just to view data and stuff.
but nice redesign :) some of the highlighted stuff just needs to be changed since i can't see them.
thanks for all the work you've done. highly appreciated.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What the heck! know i can't just go to a set and hit ebay avalibillity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

> Is it possible you could post a list of members somewhere?

Possibly, although with 19,000 in the database it would be a long list. Perhaps I could make a search facility.

> "read reviews posted by *user*".

I forgot to add that link to user profiles, but I will do so soon.

I'll reinstate the Brickfactory and eBay links -- I didn't realise they'd be missed so much!

> include more images in each page so it doesn't look like a site for school (Its true it does look like a school
> site) but more like a play site then it would be fine!

No chance of that, sorry. Plain, simple, functional and usable are my goals, not over-designed just to appeal to kids.

Gravatar

@nexus09,

I've changed them. Are they better now?

Gravatar
By in United States,

What if you could show that you own a certain quantity of a set, say a battle pack, but you could also say how many more you wanted?

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

@s1w2i3t4c5h6f7o8o9t0,
Thats an intresting idea... It would be quite helpful.

just a thought that would help me, not sure about others, but along with the 'how many of each set' could you prehaps add a feature where we can add notes to sets? I for one buy a bit of 2nd hand lego and bits are somtimes missing. So with noteswe could say somthing like '7163 Republic Gunship - missing one clone and one 2x6 plate' Just an idea...

Thanks so much for all your doing, Its turning out GREAT!

Gravatar
By in United States,

> I've changed them. Are they better now?

Yes! Thank you so much. A minor change, but it has increased the usability of the site immensely!

EDIT: I forgot to mention it last time, but line breaks aren't working for me. I have to wrap paragraph tags around everything or add a couple line break tags manually :|

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

@nexus09, glad the change helped!

I'm not sure what the line break problem is -- it seems to work for most other people. What browser are you using?

The code replaces 'vbcrlf' (carriage return and line feed, characters 0x0D & 0x0A) with , so all I can think is that your browser is only inserting a line feed when your press the 'enter' key.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is it possible you could add more pages to the highest rated sets list? Because many sets are rated 4.7 high but only the very top are up there- some are 4.7 but not on the list. Maybe putting all sets rated 4 and above would fix this?

Gravatar
By in United States,

HUW...for some reason the buy now thinks I European??? I don't get the US price on the buy now link.

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

What about other Americans? Are the prices in dollars OK for you?

I uploaded a new geo IP database with the upgrade that determines your country of origin from your IP address. That could be the cause.

Gravatar
By in United States,

HUW -- The time here is a little slow by about only 8 minutes for me...EST US. Posted first attempt post at 9:28am and it said 9:20am. As far as the IP database that could be it...because I already have an account with Lego.com it takes me to the correct listings on thier pages, but I don't get US prices or availability on Brickset...don't know if that clarifies any...

I love the new site, it's just...

...on some products, the description is huge! I liked the old format of how you showed products and reviews. It just seemed more... you know, original.

I have an idea for brickset wen you look at a news item and open it you could see to coments posted scince you last checked in a certain color. This would help me.

By in Canada,

I enjoy being able to sort through my list of sets by page number or theme. Ingenious.

Huw, I'm new to brickset and cannot access the 'edit profile' feature. Would you be so kind as to fix that. Thanks! :)

This idea? I'll try and reintroduce paging on some of those reports. Because I'm using a more robust method of accessing the database, I can't use the old method I used on the old site and it needs a bit of messing about to implement. I'm currently doing it for the reviews pages so I might take a look at other pages afterwards.

The posting time is that on my host's servers, so there's not much I can do about it. In any case it's 5 hours and 8 minutes out for me :-)

What happens? The page should take a few seconds to refresh at which point the information will be replaced with textboxes enabing you to edit it.

By in Brazil,

The reviews' pages are back and working correctly! Thanks Huw!
Now, find reviews and members isn't hard.

Well, when I click on it, it says my name at the top of a thin, blank page. Nothing else.

By in United States,

Everything's price shows £ instead of $! And it means the US money!

Price problem fixed! Thanks HUW!!

What happend to the theme legends? One sets?!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thanks for fixing the IP error and for replacing the "read reviews posted by *user*" link, Huw.

I'm rearranging the way Legend sets are displayed to make for easier browsing.

By in United States,

Hey, I have a question- does the theme display settings (cloud/list) save to your cookies? I want mine to stay at theme clouds but it always reverts back to lists.

not yet!

By in United States,

Since the upgrade, Huw, all of my reviews that I try to post are rejected. Is this natural or something else?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why did you take away the "Top Reviewers This Month" and "All Time Top Reviewers"? I wanted to see if I finally got onto the "All Time Top Reviewers list"- at least being the one on the bottom of the list like Pepper was.

Can you put a link to the list of all Brickset Administrators and Moderators? I only know shima, grahame, huw, and bluemoose being administrators on Brickset (also Doctor Sinister as a moderator) and I think there's more.

By in United Kingdom,

I'm not an Admin, just a lowly Mod, so thanks for the promotion ! ;-)

For your other question, Huw made the deliberate decision to remove the 'Top Reviewers' lists; to quote him "Top reviewers has gone. One reason being that it encouraged people to post a lot of 'worthless' reviews just to get into the list." - he's trying to encourage quality reviews.

bluemoose:

Oh. You seemed like an Admin.

I don't write worthless reviews like _______ and sometimes ______ do. (I will not say names or point fingers) I try to post helpful/useful posts.

Another thing- If Huw is from England, why isn't it Brickset.co.uk? Or is there a website that's called that and it's identical to this one?

Gravatar
By in Curaçao,

@johnbuddy, it is not a legal requirement for English people to register their websites with a .co.uk domain :-)

If the site was of interest only to people in the UK then it would make sense to use .co.uk, but if, like this site, its audience is global then .com is a much better choice. If you have just a .co.uk then you risk someone else registering the .com. The other way round doesn't really matter, and I see http://www.brickset.co.uk has been registered by one of those advertising/link farm companies and contains worthless content.

I first registered brickset.com in 1997.

P.S. I navigated no further on the page.
