Is this the best Star Wars minifig since Boba Fett?

Posted by ,

Elite Trooper from 9488Boba Fett in the last Slave 1 was a stunning figure, but this new Elite Clone Trooper from the new battle pack 9488 is pretty good too. Discounting weapons, it's made from 10 pieces including a new (I think) pauldron and 'skirt'. The printing on his mate's helmet is also superb.

The battle packs have gone up in price but with figures like this, they remain must-haves.

While I think that minifigure has a little 'to much' I'll still grab a few!

I'm not a big fan of the cloth pieces in general. I'll tolerate them for capes but as pants/skirts/shoulder pads they just seem awkward.

In answer to the title... yes, yes it is. I think it is better than the Boba figure, the detail is absolutely incredible! I hope they bring out a few more of these ARC troopers in future, it would make sense to do so, why not use the mould again in other sets to make Commander Colt and the others? If not, we will just have to paint it ourselves!

Looks a bit fussy to me, although I'm still looking forward to checking it out at closer quarters....

This minifig is a beut' I must say, would'nt it be great if they did all the "ARCS" in lego. I also really want them to do season 4 Cody, Rex and Wolffe!!!!!

The rangefinder seems to stick out like a sore thumb because of the color, and the pauldron looks too long, referencing from pics of the real thing ( add to that they have stripes/grooves on them that go out radially, supposedly). I'd still prefer Boba Fett...Thank goodness for the new Desert Skiff.

But I'm still gonna get this for my army building...;-)

This ARC trooper looks pretty stunning, but I have to disagree. I really like the 2011 Watto, and the Commander Wolffe as well. I also am looking forward to the minifigures in the 2012 Jabba's Palace.

I like the switch to fabrics for ARC gear - less bulkyness for sure. Gosh, I'm gonna have no money next year - Ninjago, Battle packs, Collectible Minifigs... what else?!

I like the commando Droids to.

@Sam19 Commando Droids? why arent they wearing underwear? lol

The beauty of a truly excellent fig is in it's simplicity, and on some level, its cartoonishness. When you start to print on the fron of the feet, you take away from other, more artfully design figs. It takes more skill to show clone armor with ten black lines that it does with forty lines in five different colors.

I agree with benjadude11. It's like with lots of specialised pieces you can create a perfect replica of a Star Wars ship, but eventually you'd get to the point of it not being distinctly lego. I think figures like this, although fulfilling a desire by some for extra detail, are heading in the same direction and looking less Lego like and more like other toys.

I'm sure there are other figures worth mentioning (I also really like Wolffe), but this one is beautiful. I hope that cloth skirt lets him bend his legs more. I liked the plastic ones, but it makes it impossible for them to sit. He has just a normal clone face?

Can't wait till they come to the US!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^ Yes, he does.

By in United Kingdom,

The fabric is fairly rigid so it doesn't just flop around the shoulders at all. It does allow him to sit though just about.

I noticed he has a red aerial. The last set I had with ARC gear had the whole lot (aerials, torches, visor, kama, pauldron etc) in a little bag, and listed them as one piece. Does this come with all the ARC gear in dark red, too?

It reminds me a bit too much of the customised clones you see on Flickr. He doesn't seem very camouflaged for a soldier either? Excuse my clone wars ignorance. But will be interesting to see how these advances transfer to standard lego figs and themes.

Yes,yes it is.

I got mine today and it is one heck of a minifigure, making an army of these would just be legendary. And I really want to get some extra waist capes to put on my commanders and captains.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have seen other pictures now that have him with the dark red visor--could that mean it does? Cause that would bring it up from 'pretty cool' to 'must have'. But yes, since Boba Fett, this is definitely the best.

By in United States,

At least as good as boba. This fig is sooo awesome, plus his "mate" and those Commando Droids make this set a must-have.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yep, he is up there with the latest Boba Fett. I love the extra little details. I just hope of a Boba Fett in the new style with the leg and arm printing like in the Cloud City set.

Nice! Finally we have an awesome Clone Wars figure. It would be nice to see the other clone commanders (i.e. Rex, Cody, Wolffe, etc.). Hope there are more figs like him in the future.

I'll have to hold one before I give a final verdict with a review (shooting at different angles makes a lot of difference in perspective). There's one at Eurobricks right now.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@plasmodium, yes it comes with a bag of accessories which are different to the old ones. There's 4 each of the aerials and visors in dark red.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm going to reserve final judgment until I actually see one in person, but my current reaction remains the same as my original reaction: the cloth pieces are great, but that is some stunningly busy patterning and coloration.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ok where did you get the set or are you just guessing all this info from pictures alone? If anyone can tell me where I can get them that would be most apprieciated.

@Bondady this set has not come out in the us

^^ The 'Jan 2012' Star Wars sets came out in the UK yesterday (26th Dec); Huw has the set & took the photos himself. There is no 'guessing' involved.

It looks kinda wierd. But that's just my opinion.

Gravatar
By in United States,

i'm curious, when is Lego.com going to put these sets on their site? for some reason it seems like they've waited longer than usual this year.

By in United States,

This whole battle pack is very nice. To be honest, I think Lego is drifting away from where the focus of the battle pack was intended. Like the battle pack 7667, it had 3 stormtrooper and a black stormtrooper. With four different figures, it seems more of small set than a "battle pack"

I would like to have a chance to buy stormtroopers in a reasonable way. Does anyone remember the days of the 7667 set, were they constantly sold out? or plentiful?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Thanks, Huw. This is what amounts to Good News.
@voypro: I had that stormtrooper set (if it's the same one I'm thinking of), but both places I saw it (I bought it for myself and it turned out my brother had just bought it for my birthday!) the shelves seemed full enough. I think people were put off by the rather ugly dropship. I didn't really like it, myself, but it was a good 'army builder' type set, I'll give you that--you didn't get tons of ARCs and ARFs and commanders and commandos; you got plenty of normal troops.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The figure is nice but I'm not sure it justifies a 20% increase in price. To move from £10 to £12 in one go is a bit much regardless of how good the figures are and £20 for the glorified battle packs that are the new droid escape and geonosian cannon sets seems a bit beyond the pail. Discounts are now essential to buy these sets.

Boba fett and this are the best starwars minifigs.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I just got into the Clone Wars Season 3 which started featuring ARC troopers... for a Starwars fan and a Lego collector this minifigure is a must have. Sadly I might not be tempted to buy more than one of the set since, like the ARF trooper, they appear personalized with their paint jobs.

If anybody is a serious fan of Starwars, I'd suggest buying the CloneWars bluerays... hands down the most beautifully mastered animated TV series. By season three any collector of Lego is virtually compelled to start buying the Clone Wars Lego sets!
