Brickset app for Windows Phone 7

Posted by ,

If you are a Windows Phone 7 user and have been wishing there were some LEGO-related apps for the platform, you're now in luck.

Brickset user Nico Maas has just released LEGO Tracker to the Windows Phone marketplace. The description reads "A brickset.com client for windows phone. Keep track of your LEGO collection. Find the sets you own or want and navigate to building plans, reviews and more.

- Search by set-number
- Search by free text search terms
- Store the sets you own or want
- View details about sets with links to building plans, reviews and more.

I don't have a WP7 but I have a friend who does so I got to try LEGO Tracker for myself today. It's incredibly slick and polished, and is probably the best mobile app that hooks into Brickset that I've seen.

You can record sets your own and sets you want into it, but you can't currently synchronise with your Brickset account. Nico hopes to add this in a future version.

If you want to find out about specific sets or themes while on the move with your WP7 device, this is a must-have app.

Now all we need is an Android one. Anyone up for the challenge?

Be great to see it on the Android and will it be a big job to sync to Brickset?

I noticed that there are two Brickset apps for iPhone, but I didn't download either because I wasn't sure if they were genuine or not. They're called Brickset, by Kellino, and iBrickset by Umeed Kothavala. Are these apps authorized by Brickset? I don't want to download a fake or unauthorized one...

Section 8 - as posted by Huw, you cannot currently log into Brickset using the app. Currently you need to manually add each set you own to populize the sets you own tab (to my knowledge). Hopefully in the future it'll have that functionality (also posted by Huw above =))

It's a good app for 99 cents~

^^ Several people have API keys with the intention of creating an Android app but I haven't seen any progress yet, so if you're up for the challenge then go for it!

^ Why should you expect it to be free? Nico has spent time and probably money on developing it. Should he not be rewarded for his efforts? Do you not think he should be encouraged to continue to develop it?

79p is not really going to break the bank, is it?

@Huw, Brickset Mobile for the iPad/iPhone was free.

By in Australia,

I say Kudos for giving it a go.

But..........

Regardless of price, you are paying for a program that in fact does nothing (in fact it does quite somewhat less) that could not already be done simply by using IE on the phone and accessing your account on Brickset that way.

Cool! I already had it created and approved by Apple, but I didn't want to release it yet. Now I have. It is called BrickNews and you can buy it on the App Store. Currently it works with the iPhone and iPod touch only, but I am working on an iPad version.
