VIP Exclusive LEGO Minifigures set on the way

Posted by ,

VIP exclusive minifigsApparently VIP members were asked last July what their favourite collectable minifigs were. The results have been revealed in the latest VIP newsletter and the five winners are going to be released in a VIP exclusive set in the summer.

The winners are the elf, the gorilla suit guy, the space pirate, the mummy and the fisherman. I'm somewhat surprised by the list as all of them are from series 3 and four of these were, in my opinion, rubbish and certainly not ones you'd want multiples of for 'army building'. The mummy was the commonest in the box and surely everyone has too many of him already!

The text reads: "We are delighted to announce the line-up for the VIP Exclusive LEGO Minifigures set, to be released in the summer of 2012. We took the results from our vote poll back in July last year and wherever possible, selected the characters that our VIPs wanted brought back - this time with some unique coloured elements! So… please give a big round of applause once again to friendly Fisherman, mysterious Elf, shadowy Space Villain, kooky Gorilla suit guy, and last but not least, mischievous Mummy!"

I think the key phrase here is "wherever possible" meaning they are bringing back the ones they have spare parts for or are cheap to produce, not necessarily those we'd like to see return the most.

I can't see much evidence of new colours other than the gold scorpion, the space pirate's prosthetics and the fisherman's hat, can you?

By in New Zealand,

I see the fishermans fish and the space pirates gun are a different color also. Wow...

Gravatar
By in United States,

gorilla suit guy? wow surprising, i have no interest in this pack of figures.

Gravatar
By in United States,

the only really good one is the elf

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They are all a load of cack! will not be buying them, in fact, do not want them FOC

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Did anyone actually see this poll? You'd think the Spartan, Mad Scientist and Zombie would be in there.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well thats lame...they changed the fishermans hat to black? so they aren't even going to give us the nicer blue hat? well im for sure not wasting my money on this :P

edit ^ yeah I would have said zombie...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hmm... very strange selection. Maybe the poll was dominated by children who have different opinions than most AFOLs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hat, scorpion, and arm & leg... Those are the different colored elements that I could figure. It does say "some" unique colored elements, so maybe not everyone has one.
Whose "Favorite" is the fisherman? Really?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Easy pass, I have too many elf archers as it is, though they will be useful when the LOTR sets arrive!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is odd, to say the least. How is it possible that these minifigs, from what is probably the least impressive series yet; got more votes than ANY figure of series 1 and 2?!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Elf was a good figure (and the only one you might want more than one of), so was the Gorilla Suit Guy (but you only really want one), the Space Villain (Blacktron guy) was quite nice and the Fisherman was OK. The Mummy was alright at the time, but when Pharaoh's Quest came out he was suddenly much less special as all the mummies from that were better than this one. Even worse is the fact that they have taken away that nice green fish!

In my opinion the best figures (from the first four series, given that only they had been released before last July I think) are the Spartan, the Hazmat Guy, the Musketeer, the Elf and the Zombie.

Also, that gold scorpion was actually in the biggest Prince of Persia set as well.

Gravatar
By in United States,

WHAT? NO way are these the figures that won! Are children out of their minds?? Why not the zombie or spartan? And how is it that they're ALL from series 3. I think TLG pulled a fast one on us. I'm not wasting my money on this. Sad though I thought the idea was great but it turned out so bad...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

WHAT!!!!!
Totally agree with previous comments that the ' ONLY ' good figure in there is the Elf.
Abundance of Skateboarders aside I thought that the Mummy was one of, if not the worst figure out of the whole 6 series.
I think Huw has hit the nail on the head and they've filled the set with leftovers that they haven't been able to get rid of.
With the choices only being from series 1-4 at the time of the poll I'd have gone for:
1-Elf
2-Spartan
3-Sailor
4-Robin Hood
5-Samurai

Gravatar
By in United States,

Underwhelming, to say the least. I had no interest in the Gorilla Guy or Fisherman when they were first released, however, I was never able to acquire an Elf - so I'm dismayed that I won't be receiving other figures I need/want in order to get him.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Apart from the elf & blackthorn (only that I don't own him) are the only figures Iam interested in. I swear the results aren't acurate and some of the models chosen are perhaps left over ones. Most of the list contains test du Muscovites over Spartan.

The list should have been this,
Elf, Spartan, forest man, Samurai and mummy

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have the Evil Scientist Space man and mummy, and neither are particularly 'WOW', so to speak :P I do however want a elf and a Gorilla suit. The fisherman is totally random, I'd rather have a gnome!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I call serious shenanigans. This is not a greatest hits assortment at all. This screams leftover inventory. The exclusive parts are mostly replaced by common colors too? What a load of crap.

Give me my pack of 5 zombies, LEGO.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Blah! What an underwhelming collection this is! I remember voting back in July and I can assure you I didn't vote for any of these ones! I never did get a gorilla suit guy the first time around and would like to have him, but not by buying the entire set! I'll pass on this and hopefully TGL will get the message that the AFOL community isn't impressed with this "special" offering!

Gravatar
By in United States,

3 words ---> CRASH TEST DUMMY!

How could they miss it?

Gravatar
By in United States,

ok so the only changes are
elf: none (that i can see)
gorilla suit guy: none (or mabye a different face?)
space villain: black arm and peg leg instead of gray
mummy: golden scorpion
fisherman: gray fish and black cap

Gravatar
By in United States,

I believe this set is actually a surplus Lego needs to get rid of. They're probably swimming with these extras.
Now if you have kids that never got these figs or are missing most of these, this set would still be a nice gift.

For me, I'd love it if they made Battle Packs instead...5 Elves w/various weapons, 5 Zombies with different shredded clothing, etc...stuff like that would be good for the TfoL and AfoL.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It said sets, so are we going to get something with each of these figures (a fishing boat for example), or are we just going to get a box with these five?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

There is no way this is a top 5 listed voted for by fans. When I was in stores shopping for series 1-4, a lot of people were clamoring for much different mini-figures than these 5.

From series 1, most people were interested in the zombie. The super wrestler, nurse, ninja, spaceman, cheerleader, circus clown, robot and magician were all better minifigures than the 4 of the 5 so-called fan choice figures. For series 2, most people wanted the spartan. The disco dude, karate master, pharaoh and vampire were all standout minifigures from that group.

LEGO is spot on with the Elf as that was the most popular minifigure from series 3. However, I found that much more people were interested in the space alien than the space villain, mummy or fisherman. I can see the gorilla suit guy making the top 5 list even though it's not a figure I'm particularly interested in. I believe the crazy scientist and hazmat guy from series 4 are also much more popular than the space villain, fisherman or mummy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It could have been worse... Sumo wrestler, Bike Cop, Crash Test Dummy, Mime, Mummy.

I would have liked Wrestler, Zombie, Spartan, Elf and Crazy Scientist.

Oh well... at least we still have Series 6, 7, 8... to look forward to.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Does anyone remember taking this survey? I don't...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I never saw this survey. I think they made it up. This is a complete snow job.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think they just picked the highest-voted 5 of each series from the poll, making a "Top 5" for each series. They probably did all of the same series so they would be easier to remake. Then, they picked the series that would cost the least to remake the minifigs of, and Series 3 was it. Then they threw in a few already-made alternate part colors so people would buy it.

I think they should have took the highest-voted minifig from each series and put in recolored elements in colors that the part hasn't come in before.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I took the survey, but if I remember correctly you could only vote for 1 figure, then they'd take the top 5 ranked figures. I voted for the zombie.

I DEMAND TO SEE THE RESULTS OF THIS SURVEY!

Seriously TLG needs to send us an excel sheet or something with all the votes haha

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I had the poll emailed to me, and voted Spartan. I can probably dig up the email if anyone really wants. What I find highly suspicious is that these are all from S3, which was the series which was grossly overproduced... I'm also a bit disappointed that the 'new and exclusive colours, never before seen in collectible minifigures are the more common version of some of the rarer parts. I still expect to buy pleany of these packs, purely for the elves, but i wish it had been a better assortment, like the Zombie, Spartan, Elf, Mad Scientist and Royal Guard.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

No I didn't do the survey either, didn't know about it! My 5 choices from first 4 series would have been 1/robot 2/ Mexican 3/ baseball player 4/ ice hockey player 4/ punk at a push I might have chosen the clown from series one.
If Lego want to expand these mini figure collections I have a few suggestions which are less general but highly collectable eg Olympic sports, world cup football teams, classic film characters, national costumes, etc etc

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I saw, I read, I face-palmed.

This is TLG essentially saying "the VIP program needs improving, so let's make everyone feel special by letting them 'vote' for something "exclusive". To pick these 'figures out of all 5 series is downright ridiculous. They must have a stash of parts that they can't get rid of.

Didn't the original email from TLG say that VIP members would receive "a exclusive minifigure"? Oh sorry I forgot, that counts when you change the colour of a part.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I voted for the Crash Test Dummy. Sigh........I guess I'll be passing on this. I never found him along with the rest of series 1. I was able to get the cheerleader and s1 skateboarder through the brick calendar though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Maybe if they'd made them all chrome figures they would have been more desirable I suspect I will not be buying these and frankly would probably not bother holding on to it if I was given one for free!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

meh,
these figures are not really applicable to my collection, so ive got to give these a pass

But I do suppose that people who have just become AFOLs then they can pick up these figures without having to buy them through ebay.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I'm really suspicious as to the validity of these "contest winners". They all just "happen" to be from the most underwhelming of all the series, and apart from the elf and gorilla suit guy (why is he getting so much hate here??), I've no interest in this set. Surely people were voting for the sought-after figures, e.g. the zombie, spartan, and the cheerleader maybe. Then again, I did vote for the series 2 surfer (...because he's awesome!).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, huge disappointment. I expected the same figures to be chosen as what has been mentioned above. I agree that Lego probably chose figures that were easy for them to bring back at the least cost. Series 1 and 2 figures are probably too far removed in the past for Lego to still have sufficient spare parts lying around. As much as I love Series 3, I don't need any more. My elf army quota has been met. My zombie quota was not.

Gravatar
By in United States,

From the email (I still have it):

"We know how much our LEGO® fans love their minifigures! That's why we're giving your little VIPs the chance to tell us their number one character from the LEGO Minifigure Series 1 - 3. Simply click on their preferred minifigure below to register your vote. We will then turn the most popular characters into an exclusive LEGO Minifigure set, only available to LEGO VIPs!* Choose wisely, you only get to vote once! Voting closes July 30.

*Voting closes on 30 July 2011 and is restricted to one vote per registered VIP Member. The top 5 minifigures will be announced in the November email newsletter and the set will be exclusively available to VIP Members to purchase in 2012, and at this time terms will be announced. The sets will be available for as long as supplies last. Please be aware that while every best effort will be made to exactly replicate the minifigures from the series range, if the winning minifigures contain parts no longer in production, we will look to find the closest looking pieces as a replacement part, and if no suitable replacement parts are readily available, we will substitute the minifigure(s) in question with runners-up."

I voted Zombie, a that was the only one I couldn't get enough of. (At one time I had 22 Spartans, but now I have 12)

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is clearly TLG trying to get rid of inventory, which is perfectly fine. I don't think anyone would object to it if TLG weren't trying to hide it behind the standard marketing hoopla. "Hey VIP Members, would you like the chance to buy some discontinued sets we still have in inventory?" sounds much better and would be a great deal more enticing than what is presented above.

Another possibility is that the Elf was the top vote-getter from Series 3, and they're packaging it with the other 4 to help get rid of "left-overs."

Gravatar
By in United States,

I saw the poll and I voted for the Zombie. How could the zombie not have won? Isn't he still the most expensive of the Collectible Mini Figures? That alone should show how popular he is!!!

Gravatar
By in Bolivia,

It seems VIPs got bad taste :/

Gravatar
By in United States,

It was silly for them to let us vote on so many options when it seems like they were well aware a lot of them were not available from day one. If it wasn't for that it wouldn't be such a let down. I see tons of series 1 and 2 parts in the build-a-mini bars while they took at least 5 months to tally the vots but apparently they couldn't scrape any up for this. Reeks of poor marketing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thanks, I just voted. "Results will be out in December". lol!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wonder what the price will be. Will it be Roughly $15 USD or less, which would match the price of each of the figs individually... or will they jack it up higher because it's "exclusive."

IMO, the elf, gorilla, and space pirate aren't bad, but it does seem like an odd selection to have won out. Oh well, maybe they'll do this again in the future and actually include some of the more appealing characters from the other series.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

^^Yeah, I want my Internet time back, voting was a big waste of time apparently, and I got my hopes up for nothing. The space villain... Really??!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Shifting the left over duff stock whilst dressing it up as 'exclusive' and 'voted for' is disingenuous.
Somebody shoot the marketing department, please!

Gravatar
By in France,

Hahaha ! What a joke ...
Am I the only one who feels that TLG knew the result they would "reveal" BEFORE the survey even start ?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Here's my theory. When the scarce series 1 came out, a horde of 'Barcoders' come out and take all the 'good' minifigs. Then when all the kids see them and pick up the 'bad' ones and are asked to vote, they pick the 'bad' ones because they never had the 'good' ones! Majority rules most often. 100 kids is stronger then 10 AFOL's. The same probably happened to series 2 and 3.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Wonder how much it'll be? Five times oh, let's say $3.50 CAD is $17.50. Then TLG will round it up, so it could even be $20 CAD. Expensive, but I missed out on the Elf and I want him.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

The elf seems a bit redundant when there's going to be LOTR sets coming out at the same time. It's a gorgeous minifig, definitely one of the best of all the ones released so far, but yeah, redundant.

I will admit I have a huge love for the fisherman though. It might not be as exciting and cool to most people as the more extravagant ones are, but for a "real world" minifig I think it's just lovely and spot-on. You could built a fishing boat a la Deadliest Catch, populate it with a bunch of these and it'd look perfect.

Anyway, I'm not a VIP so this doesn't really concern me or make me interested in becoming one. I would be though if they would bring back classic minifigs, like the Classic Space astronauts (as long as they had the correct helmets). Now that would be something to be excited about.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm a big Blacktron fan, and the Space Villain went nicely with my Blacktron Army. I also like the elf but the rest I think are rubbish. I wish Lego would just do a series of army builder-type figures or figures for a City which you are unlikely to find elsewhere; none of this novelty rubbish (Gorrilla-suit Guy). There's also too many board-sport folks, very boring.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Elf is the only one from this group of 5 that would have had my vote.

I am SOOOOO looking forward to LOTR battle packs. An elf BP wouldn't be out of the question, would it?!?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am not buying (pardon the pun) what they are selling. They have elves for the LOTR sets, so that one is not an issue (it's simple to change colors). The rest are not used in any sets and are likely excess inventory to dump.

I'll pass...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I call shenanigans...
You mean to tell me that not ONE Series 1 minifig made it in this set (least of all Zombie) ?!
WOWWWWWwww. I think this is rigged.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I remember voting for this sometime in the summer. Sure didn't pick any of the ones that made the list!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was a big mistake on LEGO's part. I was super excited about this set (I recall voting for the Zombie), because I was sure that it would contain a few army builders. But now the "winners" are revealed and... this is pathetic. I already have eleven elves, so I'm not going to waste my money on this just to get an elf and four useless figures. The more elves I get this way, the more useless figures I also get, so it's pointless.

How this series did not include the Zombie and Spartan is beyond me. And that "when possible" thing doesn't really apply to these two in my opinion. The Zombie has no unique molds, and it can't be that hard to print more Zombie heads, torsos, and legs. The Spartan's unique molds were the helmet, which has since appeared in an Atlantis set; the spear, which has since appeared with the Tribal Chief and Roman (okay, maybe it's a slightly different mold, but it's a spear, and it looks almost the same); and the shield, which has since appeared with the Viking, the Gladiator, and the Highlander. When you look at it in terms of molds, the Elf has almost the same parts list as the Spartan - they both have a cape, a unique weapon, a shield, and a new helmet or hair mold that has two colors. So it doesn't seem like the Spartan and Zombie would have been that hard to redo.

This poll was only on Series 1-3, so there's still a chance we could get some of our favorite series 4 figs if they do this thing again. My five from Series 1-3 would have been: Zombie, Spartan, Elf, Forestman, and Caveman. The three that EVERYONE who's posting here seem to be agreeing on is Zombie, Spartan, and Elf. We got the Elf, but the other four they put in this pack make it not worth buying. If they had put the Zombie and Spartan in as well, I wouldn't even care what the other two figs were. I'd buy as many of those things as I could. But they didn't, so I won't be wasting my money on it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is a ripoff. They (TLG) give out some of the most common ones (except for the Elf)? Really LEGO?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I didn't have Gorilla suit guy, Elf, Fisherman, or Mummy so this is a must buy for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Being an engineer, I'd like to look at this analytically. I believe the answer to this can be found in the statistics here at our favorite website. We can easily see how many own, want, and how people rate the sets they did get. Here is what I pulled from the site for series 1-3 today.

Top 5 Figures by Want.
'Want' should also show a level of desire to see the figures in other forms. I believe this is the best indication of what should have been created. Judging by most of the others' comments, it seems the tendency is the same.
Name - Rating - Own - Want
Zombie - 3.9 - 2925 - 795
Spartan Warrior - 4.8 - 3318 - 794
(Retro) Robot - 4.6 - 3118 - 769
Ninja - 4.4 - 3146 - 690
Forestman - 4.2 - 3127 - 666

Top 6 by Ratings:
High ratings should indicate people were happy with the purchase and it was a good product, but does not necessarily mean they would like more. (6 listed due to a tie).
Spartan Warrior - 4.8 - 3318 - 794
Spaceman (not villain) - 4.7 - 3056 - 642
Vampire - 4.7 - 3496 - 531
(Retro) Robot - 4.6 - 3118 - 769
Pharaoh - 4.6 - 3359 - 602
Skier - 4.6 - 3124 - 452

Top 5 According to TLG:
We can see that TLG's results do not match our opinions in either quality of set or desirableness. Mummy is clearly the loser here rated at 3.6 with only 363 people wanting it. Considering all the pretty Pharoh's Quest theme figures, it is hard to imagine many people really want more mummys.
Elf - 4.4 - 3293 - 591
Gorilla Suit Guy - 4.4 - 3458 - 443
Space Villain - 4.2 - 2987 - 439
Mummy - 3.6 - 3360 - 363
Fisherman - 3.7 - 3207 - 466

However, Lego did not give us only the bottom of the barrel. Here are the lowest performers.
Least Wanted 5:
Race car Driver - 3.5 - 3214 - 304
Sumo Wrestler - 3.4 - 3338 - 308
Ringmaster - 3.6 - 3281 - 335
Hula Dancer - 3.3 - 3087 - 345
Mummy - 3.6 - 3360 - 363

Lowest Ranked 7:
Life Guard - 2.8 - 3308 - 410
Hula Dancer - 3.3 - 3087 - 345
Demolition (Crash Test) Dummy - 3.3 - 3221 - 629
Super Wrestler - 3.3 - 2867 - 571
Sumo Wrestler - 3.4 - 3338 - 308
Pilot - 3.4 - 3168 - 364
Surfer - 3.4 - 3245 - 512

We can see TLG is giving us quite mediocre figures from the data present (unless we actually want to go so far as to hold votes here for best, which would be really cool).
Personally, I was hoping for a real set (not some figure-collection), so I chose the 'retro' robot (that was the Japanese name) over the Elf because I wanted a nice spaceship. Now I, like many others, will not be very interested in getting this 'set'...

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Nightshroud99 You must be the only person on here that is calling this set a "must buy" haha

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

LAME-O!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Now we can re-collect all the lesser quality minifigures we already had too many of... wonderful. I had found awhile back that London Drugs had a bunch of stock of series 3. Surprisingly I managed to feel up about 11 elves (giving me 12 including the one I owned already). So the only redeeming minifigure of the bunch I already own/built too many of!

The fact that figures like the Spartan and Robot aren't in it speaks volumes... but on the other hand perhaps there's a torn page or two in Series 6's selection (haha!).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yeah, did they give the company inventory specialist some apparent 1,000,000 VIP member votes? Cause it looks like they took the most popular fig (the elf of course) and then threw in all the rejects that no one wants. I call for a re-vote! Better yet make an all elf battle pack with various weapons and modified printing... I'd go ape for that!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like this pack, and will probably buy it. I never could get my hands on a Space Villain, and I accidentally smeared one of the Gorilla Suit Guy's eyes (That face is awesome! :( ). The Elf is also one of my favorites, especially with the new mold bow, and his many pieces. The mummy is a good, well, mummy; and the fisherman's pieces can easily be reused.
I'm an optimist. :D

Gravatar
By in United States,

i voted for the elf. sweet

Gravatar
By in United States,

SPARE PARTS!
(dear TLG, we're not numbskulls)
Obviously overproduction and no clear path to the minifigure builder at the brand stores. Why don't they just have a category for the "Collectable Minifigures All stars" and make them reappear for a limited time? Don't patronize us with a "contest" that is markedly rigged. Where is the SPARTAN!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sad, sad, sad. I voted for the zombie as well. I will not waste my money on this when I have series 6 and 7 to collect!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

hmmm. seems i'm a little late with this news. it was posted nov 2011. my bad.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

This is obviously rigged. There is no way that the Spartan would not have made this list. A sneaky marketing ploy by TLG I'm sorry to say..... the Elf is the only figure that really belongs there......

Gravatar
By in United States,

A couple of people here posted a really good idea: Lego should hold real votes on the most popular minifigs and create packs that elaborate in the fig such as a five pack of different zombies or a five pack of different robots etc... It would be more work but it would probably sell really well.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

I can't find any information, but why are they all from the 3rd series? Obviously they are NOT the most popular from the first 4!

Gravatar
By in Israel,

This is LAME, LAME, LAME. Shame on you, LEGO, for pulling a cheap stunt like this!

I know, everybody, lets boycott LEGO! Don't buy any LEGO for the next year. Then they'll learn a lesson.

...

Just kidding :P

Gravatar
By in United States,

I know the weather is warm, but it isn't April 1st already, is it? This must be a joke.

BlackFalconBirdman's list is one I would buy (probably more than once), but the only figure out of this set I can't get enough of is the Elf. Already have a few Fishermen; 1 mummy was enough; the Space Villain is cool but too unique to need more than one; and I have more Gorilla guys than I need.

How the Zombie didn't make the list I can't understand. Series 1 was impossible to find, Series 2 only slightly better, but Series 3 was the first with good distribution so it makes no sense that only Series 3 made the list. These sets should easily make it to clearance because I can't see anyone buying them.

Gravatar
By in Taiwan,

As I look at this I'm only surprised that the crash test dummy and state trooper didn't make it into the set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nothing to do with the poll. These are just the ones over produced at the Chinese factory. If only LEGO would be honest about it . . .

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those are some of my least favorite ones. No way I will be picking this up.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

They should hold another vote some time, letting people vote for the best figure from each series and then make a set from that.

These would probably be:

1) Zombie 2) Spartan 3) Elf 4) Musketeer 5) Gladiator 6) Roman 7) Dunno, probably the Aztec Warrior or Space Marine

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Actually, I'll probably pass, with all the LOTR sets coming out.

Gravatar
By in Israel,

If they were JUST selling the elves, I'd buy them, but not with the other 4 crappy figures, 3 of which I already have, the fisherman I don't want.

Gravatar
By in United States,

LAME, all series 3? thats a little strange it was all series 3.... fake poll......

i think most people would vote the zombie because he goes for like 20 bucks on ebay.

i think most adult collectors would vote the top rare ones....

not common ones from series 3.....

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those are definitely not any of the figures I voted for when that e-mail poll came around.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those minifigures are barf. I don't believe that they did a poll at all, or I would have received the email of it, as I am a VIP (and I think most of us are).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

i did not receive any poll and i am a VIP member and all the figures are not good ones anyway, and I don't understand what they are doing? are they selling these Minifigures in unmystery bags?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have all of these in the set and I don't need anymore. (has anyone seen series 6 in the USA?)

Gravatar
By in United States,

^Yes, they showed up at the LEGO store in Ontario, CA a few days ago and will be in most LEGO stores monday.

I remember getting the poll, but I thought it was only series 1&2 figures on it. I don't remember series 3 figures being on it (and it's weird that they would have been, since they were still available in stores then). These are certainly some of the best sellers from series 3 (based on my own experience selling at conventions), but the Zombie and the Spartan are obviously the ones everyone wants

@yys4u Thank you, but unfortunately I live over and hour away from the nearest Lego store so has anyone seen them at TRU?

By in United States,

I was just at TRU using that 10% back as coupons from Christmas time on the new Ninjago sets and they did -not- have any series 6, only many, many series 5 figs at $3.29 each...

On another note, I believe Bricklist should be quite a good representative of the VIP community view. It has all age ranges of people who really like legos, so as we've all stated, the minifigs choice was poor.

Lame. One to miss.

I think what TLG should do is group them up per theme. Every series seems to add to multiple themes. Like Spartan, Gladiator and Centurion, zombie, hazmat suit & mad scientist, the surfers, the skaters, space characters, robots, etc. They could release "battle packs" with 5 of each grouping. Maybe through in a few new elements.

By in Canada,

I know I'm very late to the party in commenting on this, but I believe my opinions on the contents of this are somewhat similar to what a lot of people here have said, however I'd like to break this Best Of or whatever it's called down a little bit if I may.

First of all the Fisherman, not even a Rare figure and I find it hard to believe that it was voted in. I myself have two of them already and am not interested in any more. If I was so inclined I might even trade off my duplicate one for a Hula Dancer, Samurai or Pilot, or heck anyone else I'm still interested in. But tradeing it away isn't really top priority for me as I can live with at least one duplicate of most any of these Minifigures. That being said, LEGO Obviously rigged this vote, I mean all of them from Series 3? I find that highly suspicious and frustrating as I am missing a lot from Series One and have none from Series Two.

The Space Villain/Blacktron Guy. Admittedly this one is kind of nice, unfortunately now that his bionic arm and peg leg are black instead of the original gray color he doesn't stand out as much. That being said, I wouldn't mind having a duplicate of him, as I only have one and he is a neat looking mini-figure.

The Mummy, I've always liked this Mummy Mini-Figure as it reminds me of classic Universal Horror Mummy as opposed to the Pharoh's Quest Warrior Mummies. That being said, one is plenty for me and I don't see why it would be selected over something like the Zombie, Vampire or even Frankenstein Monster, all of which I do not have and would have preferred seeing for varieties sake.

Gorilla Suit Guy, what's the deal? One of him is plenty in any Mini-Figure collection, he's a really interesting looking figure and his design is quite nice, but having two of him just doesn't work out for any masquerade party MOCs or Halloween MOCs. Unless they surprise us and have under that mask a Gorilla Suit Gal's head instead, thus making it a woman instead of a man. That might actually be interesting and worth owning for the simple sake we could always use more female Mini-Figures. And an extra hair piece for her would go a long way to making this set much better. I'd much prefer the Cheerleader though as I myself really, really wanted one and never had the chance to get her.

The Elf, I'm with LEGO on this one as being popular, I myself snagged two for my collection and wouldn't pass up the chance to have a third, provided he came with a sword instead of a bow to go with that shield and maybe a darker colored hair piece, perhaps in red/auburn so that he would look a bit different. From what I can see they didn't make any color changes to The Elf though. Which is a shame.

Overall, my thoughts are that this is a much wasted opportunity on LEGO's front. They may make a few sales on this, but considering the consensus from the vast majority of fans on this very site, I don't think they'll be pushing this product out the door any faster than all those unwanted extras from Series Three that were left over. The voting was also a complete waste of time and an utter travestiy as nothing from Series One or Two were even considered in the first place as was obvious from this reveal.

The LEGO Group has failed, plain and simple, just because it has new element colors doesn't mean I'm going to go out of my way to buy this and a lot of you seem to be of the same mind. I foresee a great glut of clearance priced Best Of packs come this time next year still cluttering their shelf/warehouse space.

By in United States,

This was rigged, simple as that. When this first happened, everyone on forums and such said they would be voting for the Zombie, Spartan, or Elf. I didn't hear ONE person say they were voting for the Fisherman or Mummy. Honestly, I think LEgo simply picked these 5 because they are they easy to deal out again. I will not be buying this at all, and I personally feel it's a mockery of me being a 'Loyal' and 'important' VIP Member.

By in United States,

all of these figures are all over the place on ebay, except the elf. you can probably get them cheaper on ebay than what lego is going to do.

they really screwed up this one.

i would rather see them re-release all of series 1 as those are the only ones not mass produced. and the only valuable ones.

LEGO, if your reading this. LAME!!!!!!!!! as I am a VIP and also did not vote. Your fake poll in this forum has made not 1 person happy.

otherwise, you rock LEGO! :)

Understandable that Lego (after seeing the popularity of Series 1 & Series 2), when they finally had the lead time, made the call to produce a ga-jillion Series 3 figs. Also understandable that they're looking for some way to off-load all the extra S3 figs they have in their warehouse.

What stinks is that they are so blatantly trying to take advantage of their most loyal customers to get rid of their excess inventory without adding *any* exclusive nature to this set. Horrible marketing, and we should all contact them and tell them so.

If they had made the _Elf_ the fig that had a new part - same shield design in round - a gold bow - a new torso color - I think most AFOL's would be lining up to buy this, no matter what the other four figs were. *THAT* is at least a little more honest way to offload all the Mummies and Fishermen they need to.

But to have ruled out reproducing any part that was out of production - even for the most voted-for figs (Zombie + Spartan) is disingenuous from the get-go. Restart the production of the Zombie, and I'd buy five of these even if the other four figs alongside the Zombie were the skateboarders and snowboarders. Lego, your warehouse would be empty so fast, you could apply your rent savings to the cost of retooling the factory.

@DPM_AXM I'm with you on that, we should all contact them and tell them we're not falling for their fake poll. At least so they know we don't just roll over and take it when they do something like this.

There aren't enough face-palms in the world to express my feeling on how the voting went for this. Edit: now I come to understand how the "wherever possible" comment comes into play. However, Lego should have simply limited the choices to those they are able to bring back.

By in Canada,

@DPM_AXM Well said. Lego really didn't need to patronize us with this 'offer'. It's quite insulting really, since a lot of us have spent a decent sum on these minifigures by now. The least lego could have done was reward us with at least 3 of the 5 minifigures being collectible. That is still the name of these minifigures, right? :P

Oh, and does Lego think that there is anyone who wants an army of fisherman?

By in United States,

Maybe we're rushing to judgement here. Is it possible that Lego will bring out a "best of" set for each series? And this is only the first? ("Best of Series 3")? When you think about it, they would never have asked VIP members to vote on their favorites from S1, S2 and S3 if they knew that none of the S1 or S2 figs would be available for inclusion. THAT would just be *crazy*.

...and when you think about it further, if TLG was bringing out a Best of S1, a Best of S2, and a Best of S3, who of us would buy Best of S3 if they all came out at the same time? I'd spend MY money on the set with Zombie and the set with the Spartan and pass on the set with the Elf (I like him - I just have a few already). This might just be smart timing to make sure these sell first.

I'm going to hope that this is just a case of bad communication. I don't think I would criticize this selection (Elf, Gorilla Suit Guy, Space Villain, Mummy & Fisherman) too much if I was told it was Best of Series Three only. I'd personally prefer the Samurai Warrior, but if they wanted the set to have diversity (one army builder, one "horror" character, one City denizen, etc.) it might even make sense.

By in United States,

that would be cool if it was a best of series. but, who voted for the mummy and the space villain? haha

By in Canada,

When I saw the poll and did it I thought Lego was gonna use the most favorited collectable minifigure and use them to make new sets, so I chose the Spartan, cause I thought it would be cool to see some Sets based with the Spartan Warrior. Not this lame collection of Figures that nobody wants, Im sure these were not the most favorited by VIP or Lego Collectors at all. I was hoping to see the spartan, zombie, crash test dummy, omething better than this, all I can say is that I wont be purchasing these, bette off to buy Series 1 and 2 Online and wait for series 6 and 7.

By in Croatia,

I'm pretty sure LEGO became the greedier one. It's obvious they're mostly from the season three because they have to many of them in stock left.

Here in Croatia, CM S3 is still available. I kid you not. Not in big amounts, though.
They were sold out in one store, and I asked the lady if they're planing to order more.
She said they're not ordering those figs, but they've jsut got them.

Actually, she said: "We're not ordering these. They've just sent them to us."
Now, she didn't say the price or anything, but she implicated TLG sent them for probably cheap (or no) price.

Anyway, those 5 figures are definately not the ones community has chosen.
