LEGO Muji sets

Posted by ,

We have mentioned LEGO Muji sets in the news several times before (here and here). If you don't remember, they originate from the trendy Japanese lifestyle brand Muji and consist of paper, LEGO bricks and a hole punch to make holes in the former so it can be joined with the latter.

I've always fancied seeing what they are like and, now, thanks to Brickset member iadams, I have three of the sets and the punch. Actually I've had them since October and he's been badgering me ever since to add them to the database :-)

So, I finally found time to do so today, and you can see them here. I've also added scans of the box contents inventory so you can see what's inside.

The three I have appear to be from the original series that were available only in Japan. Later ones are available from Muji.us in the USA and two are also listed at Muji.eu.

A LEGO Muji set and hole punchSo, what's inside the box? Here's the contents of the one with the hedgehog on it. I've included the hole punch and guide in the picture but you need to buy that separately.

There's a bag of pre-punched paper, the LEGO bricks in a ziplock bag, an inspiration booklet and, along the top, a card printed with the shapes needed for making the animals in the booklet.

One thing is clear: to get good results you'll need a very sharp knife, a steady hand and a lot of patience.

Because it looks too good to spoil, I probably won't ever make mine so I won't know how hard it is or whether I possess the necessary skills to do a good job :-)

By in United Kingdom,

I was in Muji in Guildford the other weekend and they had some of these sets there. Apologies but I wasn't paying too much attention so I can't remember the sets they had exactly, but I do not think they are any you listed here. Having also just checked they have a couple of different sets available to buy on their website.

Thanks, I've found them too and I've added a link.

By in United Kingdom,

These sound like fun, I like crafty stuff like this. I'll have to either pick some up here or place an order with my mate in Tokyo!

I couldn't bear not trying it - I'd have to just give it a go!

By in United Kingdom,

These sets sure look interesting. I would definately buy them just to have them in my collection. Could never see myself opening them.

According to the Muji.eu website The basic set is £15, the animal & vehicle set is £19 and the Lego hole punch is £10. Seems expensive but given the quirky nature of these sets and the relative rarity I could see myself parting cash for them

So you have to cut the paper out? That would be hard. Can you get them in Canada?

By in United States,

Thank you :-)

Now I know what's actually inside too.

Wait you have to use a knife?? Is that not a bit dangerous? I can understand if it requires parents supervision.

I don't get the concept of eating food with chop sticks either, so i feel secure in my bewilderment of this concept.

By in Hong Kong,

They have these sets in Hong Kong for a long time, they appeared in Muji before Huw first posted about it.
