Another Statue of Liberty

Statue Of Liberty

This polybag is the third Statue of Liberty model to be made, following on from the much sought-after 3450 [1] and Factory set 5526. It seems as if it could be the hardest one to get hold of though. Toys N Bricks is reporting that it will soon be available in the Rockefeller Center LEGO Store in New York. Let's hope it also makes an appearance elsewhere for the sake of polybag collectors worldwide :-)

[1] Check out the prices for 3450 at BrickLink -- they are astronomical! I actually have one, un-built, brand new in bags but without the box which was way too big to transport when I moved house 6 years ago. I guess that knocks $1000 off the value :(

Can't say I'm keen on this design, but track it down I will.....

By in United States,

I called the Rockefeller store today. It will be released on March 1, 2012.

I have to say, this is the derpiest Statue of Liberty design I've ever seen.

re: the high prices for 3450; I had a friend who got it and the original Imperial Star Destroyer from a great uncle. He's not into the LEGO community, so he didn't know that put together the two were worth well over a thousand dollars. He was about to let them sit on a shelf gathering dust when I alerted him to the amount they were going for on Bricklink... he was really thankful to me for showing him how to get twelve hundred dollars spending money.

5426 - Shape and Color Sorter has a hidden Statue of Liberty in it!? =P

By in Sweden,

thanks for the info! definitely one to look forward to get!

By in United States,

I do believe that you meant 5526, Huw, not 5426.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

oow, not the best set I have ever seen.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Does the CM6 Statue of Liberty count?

Gravatar
By in United States,

IMHO I think the CM6 statue of liberty would look better than this thing standing on a base. With how great the minifig turned out this is really just kind of meh.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think I'll just keep my S6 Lady Liberty, thanks. Pass!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Link to the 'Skyline' factory set now fixed.

No, the CM6 fig doesn't count as it isn't a model in and of itself.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Fail.

I feel bad for you polybag collectors.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Thanks bluemoose, my bad :-)

I did wonder about including the S6 fig in my list but decided it wasn't really a model as such.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The dress is interesting but the hat reminds me of the type Sensei Wu wears!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Wow... Couldn't LEGO have actually used the printed face and molded hat from the actual Minifigure???...

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

That's a pretty damn terrible Lady Liberty, especially compared to the just-released Collectable Minifigure (they're obviously not the same thing, but still).

Gravatar
By in United States,

oh mommy! thats expencive!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those prices are just sad. Who thinks they can ask 3000 dollars for A POLLY BAG? You could practically buy a whole Lego city for that amount! I have a feeling that once they are released the prices will become 'reasonable'. Besides that I think the model is Meh, I like the dress but as others have stated why didn't they use the CM hat piece. How much is Rockefeller asking?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Honestly, sellers can ask as much money as they want for sets but that does not mean someone is going to buy it. Personally, I think lego sets were meant to enjoy putting them together and display them with pride. Why buy a set if you only plan to put it in a storage for years thinking about the money is going to be worth after those years. Every set I buy I put together wit my son and display them that's what is important for me. Family time is priceless, do not buy overpriced sets.

By in Canada,

Um itsaturkey that wasn't a polybag...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What a diabolical liberty!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@itsaturkey: The polybag's not $3000. He's talking about the Sculptures one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I bet some people will get the polybag, build it, pause to look at it, then replace the statue part with the S6 minifig. The color is better, and the parts look better.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That's a fantastic rendition of the statue-of-green-samurai-with-its-hand-on-fire!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@drdavewatford!

I will probably replace the head with the Collectable Minifgs one. I think the reason why they didn't do that already is because they wanted the Minifigs to be unique.

Also, that Statue Sculpture costs more than a Yellow Castle! Oh my GOSH!!!

^^ @mkoesel +1

By in United States,

I think they didn't use CM parts because they and the molds are in China, while these polybags are being made in Denmark. If this was being made a few months later, they probably would have shipped the hat mold to Denmark and made that piece in green for this polybag.

By in United States,

I have access to the Rock Center store. I'll try to buy some when they come out and make them available here.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nightshroud99 & LEGOlas1- Ha ha! :P Oops. Yeah I guess that explains it :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I do not like it that much.

By in United States,

The polybag is neat, but I wonder if Lego pays attention to secondary market prices. If you've got a set that routinely sells for a thousand bucks even without the box, it would seem the demand merits a re-release or a new version. Clearly, people want a nice, larger-scale Statute of Liberty.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, I once saw Cloud City for $1000USD on eBay. Some people are really desparate or really stupid....

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Modok - Actually, it works the other way usually. Sets that aren't that well received (Market Street, Cloud City, the VW Beetle) a lot of times end up worth a lot as demand was so low when they were on the shelves that their secondary market availability has made them rare. Not sure how popular the Sculptures Statue of Liberty was when it came out (I was in my dark ages then), but I would think Lego has lots of other landmarks they would make a first time rather than start making remakes. But I could be wrong.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cloud City was not well received? I was not in the hobby then, but have a hard time picturing that. The set is a very cool build. It has several unique minifigs, multiple areas reminiscent of Empire Strikes Back scenes, and a price of $100. It set number 10123 sort puts in the category of the UCS stuff, at least gives it that feel. What was not to love?

But this Statue of Liberty polybag is awful. I am sorry there is only so much you can do with 39 pieces.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm in the Rockerfeller Center store right now they have dozens of the Liberty polybags in here, if there's no limit I'll buy a bunch. They also have a cool I <3 NY minifigure magnet I'm gonna have to buy as a loyal subject of King Bloomy

Gravatar
By in United States,

That polybag SOL is an ugly duckling of a set. Lego did not do it just, and I find it atrocious. However, I do like the base.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Huw It appears that the lego mine craft set is out for pre-orders on this site : https://www.jinx.com/LEGOMinecraft the price is $34.99 plus shipping and handling. hope this is a news worthy item ;-)

By in United States,

@jonbuddy - that's funny, I had written that Cloud City was another perfect example, but I edited it out of the final comment. I really can't believe Lego hasn't taken another crack at that one, either a re-release or a new version. It's such a wonderful set, with all the separate environments and features. Too bad most of us will only be able to admire it from afar.

@natro220 - I see your point, but I'm not sure soaring secondary demand is limited to "cult classic"-type sets. Cloud City's an obvious example. Even the widely available Creator sets like Cafe Corner and Green Grocer are going for 4 or more times the original price.

By in United States,

Mine is built, sitting next to me, it's kinda weak compared to the MC S6 SoL... Speaking of SoL I'm a paramedic and a fan of anything with a Star of Life on it... One of the dioramas at the Lego store had the older type EMT figures taking someone away on a stretcher, I loved it!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Cloud City was a bit of a departure from the Star Wars theme, from mostly vehicles into playsets. It's all very well to point to levers and trapdoors and label them 'play value', but you can't run around the room with a playset making pew-pew and rocket noises.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@voypro - I'm not saying Cloud City's not a cool set, it is. But when it was out, it didn't sell well, same as Market Street and the VW Beetle. My Lego Store had tons of all those sets on clearance for months after they were discontinued. And now they go for lots of money, because not that many were sold to begin with.

@modok - You make a good case with the Modular series. I believe there are other drivers of secondary market price as well.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This wasn't out when I was in the New York store last week.. if anyone can get one to me here in England, it'd be much appreciated.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Argh - I just called the LEGO store here in Chandler, AZ and was told they won't be get it at all. Hmmm.... Wonder if it's just this store?

Gravatar
By in United States,

On 2/23 I called the Rockefeller Center store and was told they had put them out for sale that day but they were not taking phone orders, you must go into the store to purchase them. The price quoted to me was $5.49.

I have both the 3450, and the one from the Skyline set #5526, as well as the poly bag set that was sold at the Times Square Toys R Us and the series 6 mini fig. I agree with most everyone that this appears poorly executed with the lack of the proper head gear.

I'll get it anyway, just to have all of them, but I may have to hide it behind the base of #3450.

By in United States,

I feel like I shouldn't pick this up, but it will be the first (only Lady Liberty) that I will have. I just can't take the minifig one. I can't wrap my head around it being anything other than a lady in a costume... Here's hoping I can sway someone in NY to pick one up for me.

By in United States,

Having had the one I actually opened and built sitting on a windowsill for 2 days It looks decent and is recognizable as the SoL from a few feet away.... the S6 one is way better but this was more fun to build.
