Batman's Jet-ski

Posted by ,

Batman! Here is today's free set from The Sun, 30160, Jet-ski. I hope you've all been down to your local WHS to pick up, er, one of them, while leaving plenty for everyone else...

I was at my local branch at 08:50 and there was a brisk trade in them already. I even witnessed grannies, who were obviously not eBay or BrickLink sellers, walking out with handfuls. Luckily the shop had something like 8 cases of them so I suspect they will have lasted until at least 11am :-)

Batman! As you may have noticed, Batman is sporting a new mask: the different ears are clear in this picture when compared to the blue one from 6857. It's slightly surprising that LEGO has made such a small cosmetic change, given they need an expensive new mould to do so.

Tomorrow's model, 30161 Batmobile, has not been found in the wild anywhere yet so be sure not to miss it! WHS open at 10am!

By in United Kingdom,

I've literally just got and built this, with another one still sealed.

I think the mask may be Chinese plastic because the mini fig definitely isn't.

By in United Kingdom,

It's a neat set, and excellent value for the Batman minifig. alone!

Huw: which WHS did you go to this morning?

I have a feeling this new mask mould is an indicator of some potential TDKR sets!
Good review as usual Huw.

By in United Kingdom,

I just bought 17 for 4.50pounds from whsmiths with only 9 papers, what a bargain, they had a lot of boxes of them, I git them by ripping out the voucher after they gave me it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

We don't condone that sort of behaviour, which is tantamount to fraud, here...

By in {Unknown country},

Thank to a friend of mine in London, I got three of these. Unfortunately it would take weeks til I get those in my hands.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Weirdly at my local whsmiths they were giving out the model for tomorrow, the 30161 batmobile, but I ain't complaining I guess I don't have to go out tomorrow then...

By in United States,

Is anyone having problems with the masks not lining up properly with the face printing? It almost looks like it doesn't line up on one of Huw's pics (the one with bats on the jetski) but I bought 5 of them here in the states and had this problem with 2 of the 5 I've opened so far. Lego is sending me replacements but I hope its a fixed problem in these ones being handed out.

By in United Kingdom,

There must be sets to coincide with Dark Knight Rises in the works, how could Lego miss such a huge opportunity?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Got mine this morning and didn't even notice the new helmet mold until the review, thanks for pointing it out huw :)

By in Canada,

The TRU stores in Canada have a promo on where you get one for free when you bought over $35 worth of Superheroes Lego. Apparently you could also buy them for $4.99CAN if you didn't want to spend the $35+.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I much prefer these new mask pieces, the smaller ears look so much nicer!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Easily one of the best 50 pence sets ever... Although my daughter built hers at the same time as Emmas beauty salon and let's just say batman is now sporting some interesting accessories.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I also can't see Batman's eyes through the helmet. That's how it's drawn on the packet so I assumed it was intentional.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^^ Agreed^^^ The line between the front of the ear and the eye looks sweeter and the thinner ears look neater. The back of the mask (at the base) lifts slightly higher and is more rounded than the previous design, making it look less 'bucket' like. Nice one Lego.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I got mine on eBay. I wasn't too sure whether to get it, but I have all the Batman sets from this wave, so couldn't really leave it out. Knowing that it has a different cowl makes it a must have for collectors too.

Now just waiting for it to arrive :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Bought two this morning, which was the maximum I was allowed... I originally intended to get three. Ah well :P

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@beefygrefe - yup, my helmet isn't lining up properly either (assuming the photo on the polybag shows the helmet as it's meant to sit). I'm seeing half a set of eyes under the white band through the eye holes if I put the helmet on properly.

They also still had them at my local WHSmith (Bedford) at about 15:30 when my fiancée went and bought four. They told me this morning that they regularly have one chap who comes in and buys 30 at a time when The Sun does their offers, so I feel less guilty about me buying two or three for personal use now.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They're also doing the Sun deal at Toys R Us, at least in the Reading store they were. So should you wish to buy thousands of the sets, Toys R Us provides a secondary opportunity for mischief.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Presumably the difference is that Toys R Us don't sell the paper, so unlike at WHSmith you need to have bought it elsewhere and cut out the voucher.

Gravatar
By in United States,

When I'm saying the "eyes don't line up" I mean you can only see half of the white band through the slits, and the black line and flesh shows through. The mouth printing is too high as well, you end up only having chin print show through the mouth slit.

I'm just glad I'm not the only one having this problem...I hope Lego realizes it soon if this is going to be the new mask piece.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@beefygrefe I'm seeing that too, when you have the grim looking face, the mask looks really good because the black line of the headband makes the eyes seem smaller creating a more aggressive looking face, but with the smile, the mask covers the top of the grin making it look a bit strange. Not pushing the mask all the way down won't help because it just looks strange at the neck.

By in United States,

@ Psymon - yeah, its not a hard thing to fix, I'm just surprised this slipped through Lego QC department, en mass. But if we want to help keep their quality systems strong, we need to report errors.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Psymon, there are no accessories that batman is supposed to wear (or that he comes with) that would require this gap...if there was supposed to be something, I woiuldn't think anything of this. But given that right out of the bag, it isn't right, that is pretty telling that there was an error somewhere in the production process. If Lego planned this, they would've included a neck accessory.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Another solution: stick a small piece of Blu-Tack on his head and then place the cowl on top, should keep it from slipping down too far. ;)

I follow you! It was about time LEGO released a new LEGO BATMAN mask! Very glad they did :)

Thank you very much for the news!

By in United Kingdom,

the maximum at my WH Smith was 1, i was going to get two. I can't understand how people can get more than 10 say.
On ebay someone as got more than 70 for sale and Tomorrow my Smith isn't open. Does any one if you can send the voucher to the sun ????

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

One of my new Batman cowls (that I got today in the promotion,) fits perfecton on his head, but three others I own (Two from today, the other from the a Two Face set) don't.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@DarthVader92; It's different rules at different branches for the maximum number allowed I think. Some might also come at different times of the day or get friends to get them on their behalf.
Unfortunately I don't think you can send for them. This was an option with the Daily Mail but not the Sun. It's a shame your WHS is closed. If you really want it, some folk here might give you a deal, or there is always eBay.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Doctor Leg O'Brick - I did not think the new Batman cowl came in any regular sets.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I don't know why, but the new helmet on Batman in the second photo makes me think of something feline... :P

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Luckily, i havent experienced a problem with the new helmet and think it looks great :) weirdly, the whsmith in westwood cross had models left at 5pm so managed to get 3 more :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Huw I believe that WH Smiths is now closed on Sundays! Since finding out yesterday,so more people will come to TRU!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^Not mine! I'll be there in the morning for a couple of Batmobiles.

Hearing people hawking 70-odd on e-bay makes me think a box got 're-directed' by somebody in store, but I certainly don't feel bad about getting two. I've often taken the uncrossed voucher from WHS and gone straight to TRU for a second set if it's good. Today the guy in store saw me pick up some papers and directed me straight to the self serve machine, rang it through them gave me 3 polybags! Thanks random Smiths dude! Also, no shortage or queue of grannies at mine and i figured this would be the most popular one with the minifig, Saturday, TV ads and all. Great stuff.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@NeilCrosby: Nice to see another Bedfordian! :P

I was there at around 10:30, and they had quite a few boxes of the newspapers and sets. However, when I tried to buy three they told me to put one back. :/

Gravatar
By in Australia,

:( not fair, we here in Aus always miss out on theses lego promos

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What a day! My family got 20 in eastbourne, 30 in seaford, 6 in lewis, and 45 in bexhill, but we payed for all the papers at 50p each, £50.50 altogether. but we only kept two (for me and my little brother.) the other 99 was sold on ebay for about £4.50. Anyway it is a brilliant set, but when you push the mask down on batman`s head it shows his eyebrows, so the old batman is better (in my opinion anyway.).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

we are also going back to whsmiths in eastbourne, seaford, lewis and bexill to get the batmobile, but this time we only need 58. This is what happens when your mother is the 3rd most popular lego dealer on ebay.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@jengafett hope it feels good. On an unrelated note, I saw more than one disappointed child leaving Smiths in tears yesterday.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Ah fair enough, our local store is now closed on Sundays probs because of business shortage. I'll be back getting mine from TRU. Some stores can be very strict on them, but some just are not bothered and very lenient which is great. Love the looks of the batmobile :D

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Bought 1 paper. Gave me 4. Was gonna buy 4 papers but the girl knows I'm a regular at the store so just charged me for 1...!
Considering they are normally a euro as opposed to to 30p it's good to get a few sets. Off to the shop in about an hour to get today's one. Tesco is just along the road so handy.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Jengafett. 3rd Most popular Lego dealer on e-bay? That's why I dont buy my Lego from e-bay - it seems full of scalpers and rip-off merchants.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@bilko
It is not the most fun thing to do and i do certainly not enjoy it, but this is how she earns a living.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@jengafett - Eastbourne? Near me then. Please try and leave a reasonable amount.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Its because of the above things that most people miss out. Thankfully The Sun has an unofficial mail off token policy which counteracts it somewhat. But to glean 50+ to profiteer just proves how the desire to earn a living by any means rather than grafting for it negates a person's moral compass.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I didn't get the Jet Ski yesterday' my local branch of Smiths were giving out the Batmobile by mistake!! After a 5 minute arguement with the woman behind the till about which set it should be I had to walk our with the Batmobile (she swore blind they didn't have the Jet Ski!). Annoying as hell because they're not open today and unless I'm being totally blind I can't see the voucher in the paper or the TV pull out like it says on the front. Not happy as it looks like I'll miss out unless I buy one off some greedy git on eBay for £5.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I don't really see a problem in seeking an oppertunity to make some money - it's not like any laws are being broken. And i don't think it's greedy putting it on eBay - it gives someone who missed out on the deal a chance to get the set

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ They are not, but I agree with @mrwhizzard: it's morally wrong to buy so many just to profit from them, and in doing so deprive so many kids of getting them.

Of course we all get few more than we need, if we can, because they are useful for trading with others in countries that can't get them, but to buy 100 and slap them straight on eBay sucks. We can only hope the bottom falls out of the market and they don't sell for more than was paid for them.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is because of such eBay shenanigans that I go out of my way to point out to anyone thats missed out that if they email sun customer services they will receive an auto responder with an address to post the token off to. For the price of a first class stamp they will then receive the set rather than paying over the odds on eBay.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Now I know who NOT to buy Lego from. And thanks for the tip mrwhizzard, I'll do that to get the Star Destroyer as it's the only set I can't physically collect this week.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@mrwhizzard Good on you. I hope people take advantage of this instead of getting stung by scalpers.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have two spare jetskis from Saturday's promotion and I'm looking for a swap for one or two batmobiles. Can anyone help me out?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Thanks for the tip off mrwhizzard. I refuse to pay some greedy scrunt 1000% more for something than it's worth, and in my book it's not "making a living" it's plain robbery, both in a financial sense and all the kids that would have missed out.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^I presume you are referring to the cape which is held in a cardboard sleeve to protect it as usual.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So now we have progressed from Batman, Inc. to The Dark Knight, it seems.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Strangely enough I received the new mask in the Batwing set (6863). I bought 6863 a few months ago and then decided to get another and it had the new mask. I purchased mine from a Lego Store in the US. Either Lego made a mistake or they are switching to the new mask?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Damn was away all weekend with the Army nowhere near a WH Smith. Anyone have a spare one they want to sell/swop/gift :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@CapnRex101, sorry for the late reply, yes, I got a new cowl in February in a Two Face set in the Sutton Colfield branch of the Entertainer. I was suprised myself to so a new cowl as at first I thought it was a fake. Did report it here along with me finding two Mini Hogwarts Express and ten City Police Helicopters for 49p each in a Heart Fondation Charity shop, sealed.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Just got mine today too. Unless I've missed something (e.g. I've missed an announcement) does the new cowl mean that there'll be sets for the new Dark Night film this year???
