30161 Batmobile

30161 BatmobileHere's today's polybag set free with The Sun newspaper in the UK, 30161 Batmobile.

There's no minifig, but as a result there are a lot of pieces, including some useful and rare ones (the 2x4 curved slope on the front).

WHS is always worse on the Sundays of these offers because a lot of people can get into town for the 10am opening time. I was there about 10:05 and there was a queue about 20 deep outside the shop. I'm not sure why because I went in and took my papers to the self-checkouts, which for some reason nobody was using. The attendant gave me my sets when he saw I had some Suns and was out again in 5 mins.

When collecting yours today, please be considerate to others and don't take more than you need: leave some for the kids who pitch up at WHS this afternoon...

By in United Kingdom,

I know but we're not planning on going to WHSmith today - the only way is by bus (parents aren't willing to drive me) and the fare's a rip-off. Besides, by the rate they were going in Canterbury yesterday, they're surely running very low by now....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm off to Eastbourne Smith's now. Hoping to come back with two (that is a reasonable amount right?)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My local WHSmith has two entrances, everybody including me was line up at the entrance nearest to the newspapers. I think I heard about five mum's saying "I'll put it in my bag, you can have it when you get home."

By in United Kingdom,

There was about 20 people outside ours at 11am (opening time). In they all rushed, picked up one paper each and went to the till. I assumed they were limiting numbers, so picked up only 3. Got to the till, asked about limiting numbers, they said no. So I bought another 10. But they insisted I took the papers with me.

Oh well, I've got loads of vouchers and will collect more if they still have stock tomorrow. They reckoned they had one set for every paper they have in store.

By in United Kingdom,

^^ I'm terrible I made one up sitting in the car park outside the shops!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Picked mine up this morning, looks lovely! I hope that a sense of fair play prevails in the face of greed today (wishful thinking I fear).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Went to the local WH Smith today, the whole shopping centre was a ghost town! Nothing will beat yesterday's set, but this one's a pretty nifty base for F1 Mocs :3

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It is a nice build, way better than average for a poly. And the curves are lovely.

The only really minor downside for me is that it is so smooth, it is not possible to do some free-style incorporation of all the extras (you get three extra pieces) into the model.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I must admit, it was a much nicer build than I thought it would be from looking at the pics. The bedford store was nice and empty when I got there at 10:45, and they even still had a whole bunch of yesterday's polybags in stock.

Touch wood come next saturday they'll still have a few of the ones from throughout the week (I'm unlikely to be able to get to a Smith's due to where I work).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Got my 3 this morning and prefered it to yesterdays set as did my 5 year old.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

That's a awesome looking little set, kudos to people in the UK that manage to get one.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

seaford 10 each
eastbourne 5 each
lewis 3 each
bexhill 10 each
that is how many they will give you per person (for us anyway.).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Why do you need 28?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@jengafett - As long as you didn't clear out Eastbourne.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks like it was wishful thinking on my part.

By in Zimbabwe,

Cheltenham WHS sold out by 10.30 .Managed to get from TRU and WHS in Gloucester. Two for me,three to take back to Zimbabwe for my son and nephews ;)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My local store had a limit of 3 per person but didn't have any papers left, luckily i had my token, but i did see a lot of families and kids walking away empty handed

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My local WHS opened at 10 and by 9:40 there was a que about 70 strong. I was near the front so got mine ok. Went out to Cribbs as needed to get a bike for my son and the Darth Maul figure from Smyths (which i can confirm they have at Cribbs) and realised they hadn't crossed out my vouchers so i got some more. Although the WHS at Cribbs was crossing out the vouchers. One guy in front of me had 10 papers then whilst the woman was crossing out the vouchers he got 6 more. Alot of people seemed annoyed with the wait. I got out ASAP.

By in Canada,

@RGP, I hope you're enjoying your first experience of a newspaper promotion!

By in United Kingdom,

I live in Worcester. We got the jetski yesterday and the batmobile today. We've never bothered to get up early and collected them before so couldn't believe how people were panicking. One woman was shouting at her child to pick up two papers whilst she stood in the queue!
Good models though :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@omnius Why do you need 28?

For eBay. On the other thread, they say they put 99 of yesterday's jetskis up for £4.50 each.

I got 13, but have traded six away already - some for the jetski which I missed out on yesterday.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I thought that might be why. Sadly.

Gravatar
By in United States,

would anyone be kind enough to secure me one of these?? pretty please?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I got just got this! Though it was probably acquired by my mum a while before now!

^ Sorry, I only have one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think it's interesting how big newspapers are in the UK. The Newpaper market is all but dead in the states. I actually miss the old days of reading newpapers and seeing the comics. I would love to be a kid and find a Lego set in my newspaer on Sunday. The good ole days....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ I doubt many people here would have been buying The Sun were it not for the offer. It's all a 'scam' to bump up readership numbers for advertising.

But a good scam, that gets us LEGO.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^ The newspapers here might be big, but they're really really rubbish. Imagine Fox News in printed form, but with much more "news" about reality TV.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^^ "I would love to be a kid and find a Lego set in my newspaper on Sunday". The sets aren't 'in' the paper as such; there is a voucher printed in the paper that is supposed to be cut out & then exchanged for the set.

In my W.H.Smiths this morning they had a member of staff cutting out the vouchers from a big pile of papers; when you took a paper from the shelf to the checkout they asked if you wanted the "Lego toy", and they then swapped your paper for one that had already had the voucher removed (assuming you had yes to the question), and gave you a polybag from a box behind the checkout. I was there at 10:30 (they opened at 10:00) & I got 2 - one to open & build, and one for my polybag collection.

^ not *all* of the papers are rubbish; granted, the 'tabloids' (Sun/Mirror/Star/Express/Mail) aren't worth the paper they are printed on (IMO), but the 'qualities' (Times/Independent/Guardian/Telegraph) are still pretty good newspapers.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^^ Actually when I went to my local whsmiths and was waiting in the queue I saw at least 5 people who had bought The Sun and had declined the Lego set when prompted so I assume some people are still interested in the paper itself

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@ ThisIsMyCup - I have some for swaps ... see the marketplace section inside the forums.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was at my whs 5 minutes after it open this morning and queued for 20 minutes to get mine and was late to work but I got it!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@RGP, Cheltenham WHS was chaos this morning, some guy got carted off in a police van for fighting...over a polybag for goodness sake !! Anyway, your comment about Zimbabwe has given you away, I know who you are, good to see you on here and hope you're enjoying your stay in Cheltenham.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

they had ran out when i got there. luckily a woman gave me one so thats cool and all

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Is there really that much of a rush on these sets? Around where I live I could stroll into a Tesco or Smyths at the end of the promotion and pick up all of the sets at once.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Went into WH Smith in Salisbury at about 11.30 ish this morning and the there was hardly anyone in the shop, got my copy of the Sun and the other Sunday papers, went to pay and noticed they had about 5 full boxes behind the counter and 2 boxes open. I asked if I could have 2 lego sets please and offered to pay for another paper, the nice lady said that would not be necessary as I had asked politely.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have two spare jetskis from Saturday's promotion and I'm looking for a swap for one or two batmobiles. Can anyone help me out?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What madness! A strangely British queue of 40 weirded me out at Newton Abbot when no queueing was necessary, its a shop not a theme park ride!

But I managed to beat the kids to a yesterdays Batman, Ha Ha victory is MIIINE!!!! ...the shame. Two seems a fair limit, a hand stamp should be introduced.

A Batman obsessed kid was even dressed in his Dark Knight costume and everyone sort of threw themselves at The Sun stack and checkouts like it was a government ration handout in a post-apocalypse. Is it wrong to tell kids that they have sold out?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

"not *all* of the papers are rubbish; granted, the 'tabloids' (Sun/Mirror/Star/Express/Mail) aren't worth the paper they are printed on (IMO), but the 'qualities' (Times/Independent/Guardian/Telegraph) are still pretty good newspapers."

I'll grant you, the four you mention are higher up the food chain, but there's still way too much political bias, cross-promotion and hypocrisy for my liking.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@rawbob - sure. PM me on the forums. I am CCC, and I have a thread in marketplace.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

@RGP good to see you on here finally :) hope youre enjoying the polys

The tip to ethical multiples is to do it late in the day, and then only if there's a lot of spare boxes left. IMO Its not fair to do it at the expense of kids, but its OK if its stock that would just go back to Lego anyway.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@omnius
I meant that is how many they give out per person.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Si - Do they *really* go back to LEGO or do the staff 'disappear' any remaining at the end of the promotion? ;) (or before )

[ None for me today as my local Smiths is closed on Sundays and the nearest TRU is 25 miles away. ]

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They don't go back to Lego; it's The Sun's promotion, not Lego's. The Sun buy the sets off Lego (at a massively discounted rate), and they don't recover them from the stores. If there are any left over, it's up to the stores how to dispose of them ...

Gravatar
By in Zimbabwe,

@Huw,Ya now I know the STRESS my daughter goes through,ha ha :)
@atkinsar,Thanks,having a great time.Couldn,t believe they were all finished so early! Will get up early tomorrow :) Don't want to miss out !!
@Si-Dorking-Surrey,Thanks ,Ya,nice to get something for FREE ,it's great!!

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I've not been able to get hold of these in person, fortunately my (long Lego suffering) mum is happy to go out and get the Sun and the lego :). It'll be a while before I get them in my grubby AFOL hands here in NZ - there will be a fight for them between myself and my kids; knowing them (6mths, 4 and 7) they'll win :(

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ 8028 mini TIE fighter.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I went to my local WH Smith around 12:30, and they had loads of boxes of polybags still, so I didn't feel bad buying 4. They also had leftovers of the jetski, so it seems to me there's not as bigger demand here (Cambridgeshire) than the areas some of you guys are from. They didn't take out the tokens, so if there are any spares left by the end of the day tomorrow, I might pick up a couple more - they wouldn't be taken from any children.

Nice little set anyways. (:

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^Harsh, all of the outlets for these that I have heard of before have been willing to give out at least 2.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Don't pay for five unless you know you are getting five.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I really find it unfair that even the coupon says "1 per customer" yet people are coming away with hoardes of them denying others.

I think the stores should also be given a LOT more stock seeing as how popular this promotion is, the last two they have done I missed out on due to how quickly they run out of stock, its almost a scam.

I'm collecting the coupons hoping that they will have a mail away voucher I can send them to get the lot sent to me since so far I have missed out on both these sets. I know they haven't once before though so I might be collecting these vouchers for nothing. Extremely annoyed about all this >/

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@ Lego K
Actually, there has been a mail option on the sun promo offers in the past but not a published one. In a thread over on Eurobircks a few members have been mailing of their unused vouchers and getting the promos on the post. Some of them have been getting large numbers too!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^ When you say "how quickly they run out of stock" - what time have you been getting to the store?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The store which I can get them from runs out of stock within 2 - 3 hours! I usually manage to get to it at 11:00AM - 12:00 midday area, when the ToysRus is open until 7 in the evening I expect them to carry quite a few for people passing through during the day. For people who work during the day aswell its gonna be impossible for them to grab a set, I'm literally gonna have to be there at opening times to get one.

I've emailed the newspaper about mail in options so hopefully I'll get all the vouchers and do it that way. I'll have to see what happens.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ To be honest, I wouldn't bother emailing and expecting a reply. There is a thread on Eurobricks with the address to mail the token to. As I understand it, they only return one toy per voucher, per envelope mailed to them. I've never done it, but this is based on what friends have done, and also what I have seen on other forums. So don't mail lots of vouchers expecting more than one different toy to be returned.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That's true but the price of the stamp and a envelope is still cheaper than eBay or bricklink. If you have loads of vouchers just buy a cheap pack of envelopes ad some second class stamps.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I went to my local store (leatherhead) after work and while they monday Promo was all sold out the counter staff told me they had loads of the Sunday Batmobile left as they don't open on Sunday. This was the main reason I went there as I could not make the stores yesterday but bought 8 papers, so the kind lady handed 8 over to me. =-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Anyone in GB willing to send me one... I will pay for shipping/handling and any fees to cover your trouble.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

WHS by my friend had a sign out this morning:-

"20 limit per customer on Sun Lego"

some people had been trying to get 40+, I think it should be 4 MAXIMUM per person myself.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@atkinsar: That's what you call a "die-hard LEGO fan"... :P

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Everyone rember a coupon is valid over two days, so if you miss it one day you may be able to get it the next.
