At last! A picture of Spider-man's Doc Oc Ambush

Posted by ,

Here it is: the first known picture of 6873 Spider Man's Doc Oc Ambush, courtesy of Mr Toys in Australia, which states it'll be available mid-August.

The image could be better but you can just about make out what's in it: 3 minifigs (Spidey, Doc Oc and Iron Fist), some sort of wheeled contraption that Doc Oc appears to be attached to, Iron Fist being restrained by something and some laboratory equipment.

That was a bit vague, wasn't it, but I suspect some of you will know what it's all supposed to be and from what movie and will enlighten us in the comments!

(thanks to Missingno for the news)

By in Australia,

Looks great, will be buying it for Iron Fist and Spidey!

By in Australia,

And I believe it's based off the new Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, rather than any of the live-action movies.

Gravatar
By in Slovakia,

great I must have it

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can't wait! Is it $30-40?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think it is $40 or £40 in Britain with 362 pieces

Gravatar
By in Hong Kong,

It kinda reminds me of the Batcave....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think Kez is right - considering the lex luther power armour set on the same site was $40 and this is $70, it will probably be $40 (USA) and £40 (UK)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was hoping for £35 like the Batwing battle thing...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Correct me if I'm wrong, 'Ultimate' Marvel stories involve a reworked origin and storyline for the characters involved? Not that it affects how the Lego sets look, which is pretty great.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks great, very reminiscent of the Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape if you ask me. I hope we see a few more Spiderman sets released (as well as some of the other heroes).

Gravatar
By in United States,

The price people are reporting makes perfect sense, as the Marvel line needed a set in the huge gap between $20 and $50...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I noticed that my local TRU store is kitted out in Amazing Spiderman displays, they had some movie sets but they are M***Bloks!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This set isn't based on a movie. Iron Fist wasn't in previous movies, and MegaBloks has the license to make building sets based on the new movie. I saw that someone has been selling numerous Spidey minifigs from this set on ebay recently. I don't like how it looks with the base color for the torso being blue. The Spidey minifigs Lego made before look better than this one.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@ NielJam - I see what u mean about the blue torso. And I'm sure the arms are meant to be mostly red. I think this figure's disappointing :(

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love it! This is a must-buy for any fan of Marvel and LEGO.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It seems to have just 3 minifigures, same as the Iron Man set. I suspect it is 20 to 25 no? Although, it does look to be of much more piece count. Either way, I will be buying it nonetheless. I have been waiting for this set for a while now, and I will definitively buy even if it costs the estimated 40$ price tag.

By in United States,

I find it very interesting that both Megablocks and LEGO will have Spidey on the shelf at the same time. I wonder how many kids are going to ask for the "Spider-man LEGO set" for a present from Grandma, telling her "Don't worry, you'll find it, it's the only one with Spider-man in it" only to end up with megablocks instead of LEGO.

By in United States,

I'm honestly surprised by why Marvel/LEGO decided to go with Iron Fist out of the thousands of other characters to choose from. Guess this brings up my hopes for a Moon Knight Minifig. (Honestly, I think I would explode if LEGO did something like a "Marvel Collectible Minifig" thing.)

By in United States,

I think this version of Spiderman is consistent with the comic version. Black webbing instead of silver and the pant leg being all blue is only a little disappointing that his boots are not red, but that is consistent with Lego not painting shoes in general. Eyes are white instead of silver also is consistent with the comics.

Iron Fist is pretty accurate to the comics and cartoon. Doc Oc is disappointing...

I hope this is just the beginning of a long line of Ultimate Spiderman sets. So far they have a pretty nice assortment of characters...

I'd love to see Nova, Nick Fury, Taskmaster, Dr. Doom, Klaw, Venom, Blizard, ...

By in United States,

$30-$40 is crazy talk. $59 is low as this will go.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Been looking forward to a Spidey set... missed out on the "Studios" releases, so definitely going to get this. BTW (and not wanting to pick nits), but I think it should be Doc OCK, not Oc... Thanks for the heads-up!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Glad they did this, even if it is based on a completely horrible rendition of the character. Iron Fist is a nice addition, making up for the bad doc ock. A must buy? yes, but not for 70 dollars. Hopefully i'll be able to get it when it goes on sale (when pigs fly).

Gravatar
By in United States,

@UtarEmpire-agreed, that would be awesome.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ It's $70 AU... which is probably $40 US.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

£40 isn't too bad... even if it's more than that I'll be finding some way to buy it as I collect Super Heroes.

Gravatar
By in United States,

39.99 USA. All true, with piece count at 362 pieces.

Gravatar
By in United States,

$40 is actually a LITTLE bit much but certainly better than some sets *cough*Weathertop*cough*.

Gravatar
By in France,

Good news !
I appreciate Iron Fist character.
I hope the set will be released soon in France.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks good. I expect it'll fill the £30-£40 gap in the Marvel sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks better than I was expecting! I can't wait to get my hands on this one! I missed all of the original spider-man sets :(

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was hoping this set would be based of the New movie coming up instead of the cartoon. I hate it when they make Spiderman's white eyes really big.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I LOVE the set, only problem is is the cartoon is crap. It seems like a full 22 minute Family Guy "like the time/when". Still buying it though!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the set AND the TV show, so I have to buy this!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks pretty amazing - not just the minifigures, but the parts selection too. It's smaller than I expected, though, so I hope the price won't be too ridiculous (seems like it should not be more than about $40 USD).

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Should I get this or the funhouse I can't choose

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ Funhouse - it's amazing - u get 5 awesome minifigs and more pieces overall for what we're guessing is the same price :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am not to overall impressed with the set itself. The model looks like something a kid mashed up on the LEGO Digital Designer. I'll probably buy the Spiderman figure off Ebay or Bricklink. Other than that, this model is very mediocre compared to all the other MARVEL sets.

By the way, does anyone have any info about the Palpatine's Arrest set? Has a price been released yet?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@roguetrader1987, yes, you are correct. After Marvel had suffered heavy losses in the late 1990s due to many things (artwork, poor story lines, variant issues, popularity falling among kids) Marvel revamped their comic line with an Ultimate Spider Man comic. Set in the present day in a alternate reality, heros only had just started to emerge instead of the 40's/50's/60's in the main comics. This apealed more to kids/tenagers much like the comics in the 60s because they could relate to it more, and could pick it up from any issue without knowing the back story. Ultimate X Men, The Ultimates, (thier version of the Avengers) and Ultimate Fantastic Four were next, along with many others. As the years went by their was more popularity for the main line, with company wide crossover epics like Civil War and Secret Invation gaining the lost poularity. In the end, they killed most of the Ultimates off in an Epic of there own, Ultimatum. They killed many characters off including Spider Man, but this year have again revamped it.

As for the the set, it looks great but would pay no more than £40 for it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I can't wait for this!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Legobatman27 - I would think based on your handle that you would have the Fun House already...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Loving the look of the set, will definitely pick it up after my GCSEs finish! Huge Spider Man fan so I can't skip this set!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Legobatman27 - Judging from your username, I would recommend the funhouse. I am an owner of this set, and I must say that nearly everything about it speaks of fair pricing, great figures, and a nice piece and color selection as well. Unfortunately, the model's foundations are a bit weak, but that can be easily remedied with a few extra bricks. If you really really really like Spiderman, though, you should definitely get this set as who knows how many other Spiderman sets Lego plans to produce after a seven or eight year hiatus. I will be getting the Spiderman set, if not for its design, then for its sheer minfigure selection and potential value.

Gravatar
By in United States,

i would have been so much happier if they did spiderman and the lizard, with the same kind of laboratory scene but in the actual to-be-releashed spiderman blockbuster this year!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks kinda cheap and tacky to me, just like all the other Super Hero sets.

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

Methinks this is one of the less tackier of the superheroes sets compared to batcave(ugh!) or even helicarieer. Good first impression on me, though I'll have to see it for myself when it comes out or at least a clearer picture surfaced. 70 aussie dollars ain't too bad (OZ pricing are almost the same with the asia-pacific region, and yeah we've gotten used to these kind of pricing by now so not gonna start complaining). As usual, can't wait ;)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@energyarrow - your question has already been answered in a previous comment: TLG does not have a licence for the forthcoming film.

Looking forward to this set, aiming for 100% completeness on Superheroes. I think I prefer my old Spiderman minifig but will reserve final judgment until I can compare them both accurately.

Gravatar
By in United States,

nice figs (and set)

Gravatar
By in United States,

the brickset effect happened again, the link no longer exists.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Easily the best Spiderman minifig to date. Good job lego! Secure the rights to the comic book characters instead of the movies!
