Second brand store to open in the north of England this year

Posted by ,

The location of a second brand store to open in the UK this year can now be revealed: It will be in the Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield.

There are a number of job vacancies listed at the LEGO recruitment site.

We've heard rumours there may be another two coming to the UK before the end of the year, too...

(thanks to martyn for posting the news in the forum)

Update: There will also be a new store opening in Essen, Germany this year, too. The manager's job vacancy is here. (thanks Eiffelturm)

@bricksan - Good luck!

It is always good to have another Lego shop in the UK, where ever it is so I am glad to hear about this and the other two which may open this year. I live near to Brighton so I am fairly close to a Lego store but if Lego want to open one in Eastbourne (wishful thinking) that is fine by me. Or even better in the small village of about 100 people where I live (ridiculous thinking!)

Does anybody know what store that actually is which they use in the pictures for all UK stores? It looks a bit like Brighton, but I am not sure.

^They use that picture for almost ALL Stores period. Only a few stores actually have real pictures of them.

Metrocentre next please TLG.

Energyarrow - That's not very nice. Until Liverpool opened, it was a minimum of a 3 hour drive for me to reach a brand store, and I'm hardly at the top of the UK, there was most of Wales, the whole of Scotland and the top 2/3 of England without a brand store.

If I had to guess, I'd say Glasgow/Edinburgh will be one area they are likely to look at, and maybe the Metro Centre, given there's nothing in the north east. Personally, my vote is for Southampton...

By in United Kingdom,

@Huw - Well your vote would be for Southampton wouldn't it! Actually, that probably would be useful for me as well because cruises frequently arrive back in Southampton and when I come back from my cruises in Summer the first thing I want to do is get the new sets!

I would have thought that the South West needs one, maybe in Plymouth or Exeter and would also agree with Glasgow or Edinburgh. Possibly Norwich as well although they are not too far from London.

Yes South-West please...!!!

By in Netherlands,

When a shop in Holland? The closest one for me is in Oberhausen (Germany).

By in Belgium,

Hopefully oneday a LEGO shop in Belgium! But if in Holland then close to the Belgium border :P

@ bricksan - Good Luck!

LEGO sure is creating lots of jobs in these hard times. They are just that great of a company.

By in United Kingdom,

@Energyarrow - last time I checked, there were 64 Lego 'Brand' stores open in the US, with more stores opening all the time. With the newly announced Manchester & Sheffield stores, there will be 23 official Lego stores in the whole of the rest of the world combined (excluding 'franchise' stores, not actually owned or operated by Lego themselves) so your comments are unlikely to get much sympathy. Your comments about the UK say more about your lack of understanding than anything else

By in United Kingdom,

Can we have a store at thw White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds please. It's only 1&1/2 hour car ride from my location and from my day service location.

By in United Kingdom,

Since the Birmingham Lego store closed down, we've not had one in the Midlands (don't think Milton Keynes counts as the Midlands!), so one near Wolverhampton please! :D

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wish I had a lego store near me. Event though I live in California wich is the state with the most Lego stores, but none one of them are near me. :(

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

why can`t one be in eastbourne!

Gravatar
By in Gibraltar,

Stop opening multiple stores in the same country and open them up in countries that don't have any at all....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Huw, I'm definitely with you on the Southampton store! Being in Bournemouth I feel there needs to be one a lot closer than there is!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^Agreed! But doubtful...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hopefully the Birmingham one from day's gone by will reopen in the Bullring!

By in Ireland,

LEGO, if you're reading, there's this nice green island to the west of Britain. Although it's part of the UK in your sales organisation it's actually a different country. And since it's an island, a drive to the nearest Brand Store would include a four hour trip on a ferry.
So LEGO, please, have a look at Dundrum, Liffey Valley or St. Stephens Green when you're looking for a spot to open your next Brand Store...

That's great news about the latest store, I only live 10 miles away, so a weekly visit will be on the cards now. Does anyone know when it will be open.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hi
Does anyone know when the store will open as im going back home in november?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It says July.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Meadowhall here I come

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'd like them to reopen the Birmingham store, as that's one nearby me.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I've always been fairly lucky living only about 30 minutes from the Bluewater store, though it's great to hear that more stores are opening up across the country. Inevitably there will never be enough stores local to everyone - LEGO brand stores are still fairly niche and not a huge chain that can be expected to have branches in every city in every country - but to see them branching out is progress in the right direction, at least.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I guess that I might be able to get to Sheffield. But Nottingham NEEDS a Lego Store. :) :) :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Come on guys and gals, get over to the new store at Meadowhall, its closer than you think.........oh wait though, its opening in Julyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy 2012, date to be announced

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

One in Birmingham please, preferably in an out of town shopping centre not in the Bull Ring like the last one, that place is a real PITA to get to and costs a small fortune to park.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Please let one of the two coming soon to be near Leicester, or at least Nottingham!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

There is also a new Brand-Store, opening July, in Essen, Germany!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Although I was pleasantly surprise when I walked passed the new store, thinking about it now, doesn't Manchester have a shop attached to the Discovery centre in the Trafford centre.

The Liverpool ones ace!

By in United Kingdom,

By in United Kingdom,

Meadowhall? 30mins up the M1! get in! i will frequent this establishment with my business. And it should see a LOT of business as Meadowhall is always busy. Now, that prayer was answered, on to the next one. *Good PAB wall, good PAB wall, good PAB wall.....*

By in United Kingdom,

I'm with @Huw on this one: West Quay in Southampton is crying out for a Lego Store!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Finally, there's a Brand Store coming near Nijmegen, NL (the one in Essen). But now I'm forced to relocate and my funds are... well... there are no more funds. Maybe in a few years I'll be able to enjoy the availability of a Brand Store nearby.

Edit: I'm just reading @sanderkoenen's comment (32x^). One in Oberhausen? How can I've missed that one?

By in United States,

The Yonkers NY USA location will be a Lego Discovery Center.
what is the difference between a Regular store and a Discovery Center.?
I assumed that it was something between a Shop & a Legoland
