Minifig microsite updated with series 8

Posted by ,

The collectable minifig microsite at LEGO.com has been updated with bios of the series 8 figs and, for the first time since series 5, a new wallpaper and poster.

This of course means we have official pictures and names for them so I will get them added to the database here ASAP.

So, I'll ask again: which is the Spartan, and which is the Crash Test Dummy of this series? :-)

(Thanks to icey117 for the news)

My goodness.... Haven't we played this cat and mouse game a few too many times in such a short period of time?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For me the Conquistador would be the Spartan of this series, and the Man-Bat character the Deep Sea Diver. :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Spartan of this series, I think the Shakespearean Actor and Diver in my opinion. As for the Crash Test Dummy, perhaps the Vampire Bat or Cheerleader for me. I was under the impression this has been around for a while, at least a week and a half.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Forgive the uninitiated, what does the "Spartan" and "Crash Test Dummy" label mean?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I agree with CapnRex101 -- the Actor and Diver, with Conquistador coming in third would be my favorites. My least favorites would be the skier, the diver, and the Football player, but maybe that's just me.

By in United States,

@kwilder... it's a ridiculous comparison that people make regarding which they think are the best and worst figures in a series.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For me series 8 is a bit of a dud, and has now got to the point of reusing previous characters from other themes/waves. For example:
Conquistador/Pirate captain from Pirates
Santa from Seasonal sets
Vampire bat from MH
Alien Leader from AC
Blue Cheerleader = Red Cheerleader
Robot = Evil Robot
Skier from Sports and Previous waves

They lack the interest which a lot of the earlier waves had. I will probably buy 1 or 2 at the most just to add to my sub themes collection.

By in United States,

I'm looking forward to the Bavarian, businessman, conquistador, Santa, and thespian. I'm disappointed in the man-bat and alien figures since they're just modifications of figures from current themes.

I also thought the crash-test dummy was really unique and creative, though I'm not sure anyone's Lego setup features a vehicle test facility and, therefore, that he belongs anywhere...

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is the first time since Series 2 that I am not interested in any of them.

By in United Kingdom,

I think the most sought after fig will be the Conquistador, closely followed by the Diver and Thespian. Plus, I think kids will love the Manbat, Pirate and maybe the Fairy.

Least popular will be Skier, Businessman and maybe Cheerleader.

However, my personal favourites are very different from this. My favourite is either the Cheerleader (nice hair, great for a rival of blue cheerleader), and the Fairy (whilst the figure looks pretty bad, the individual components are very useful). I also really like the DJ, Space Villainess, Skier (the torso actually looks really useful, plus I love the colour scheme), Cowgirl and Bavarian.

I'll also probably get the Businessman (black bowler and newspaper), Thespian (ruff), American Footballer (trophy) and Conquistador (plume and armour).

By in United States,

Diver, Pirate Captain, Shakespeare, Conquistador and Cowgirl are my favs.
I'm thinkin' the Diver is our 'Spartan' with the diving helmet being sought after.

The Female Skier is our 'Crash Test Dummy' or maybe the Red Cheerleader.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My little girl will love the cheerleader and the female skier. And she'll want the fairy and Santa. But I think the diver may be the best.

Gravatar
By in United States,

yeah but this Santa is exclusive to this wave, and can not be obtained anywhere else.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Truth be told: I'm good with 'figs I can add to older lines. I threw enough into AC to justify the Alien Empress; ditto the Diver for Atlantis. Unt za Vampire Bat can't vait to drink za Munstah Vighta's blood- I could use a few of him for villanous mooks without shelling for the (admittedly epic) Chateau du Vampire.

But that's all my opinion. If you don't like the line, ignore them- LEGO exists to make us happy, da?

By in Denmark,

Intersting enough the frontpage of LEGO-UK (http://www.lego.com/en-gb/default.aspx) portraits the CMF OLYMPIC Series, though it links to series 8. TLC celebrates the olympics as much as possible without an official sponsor deal, I assume. :-)

By in Russian Federation,

And I'm looking forward to these figs! I haven't bought any Alien Conquest or Monster Fighters sets because they aren't available in Russia and I do not like these series so much to order them... Now I can get some of these parts for free. Man-Bat is one of the best figs, in my opinion, for it has a totally new hand piece (a rare thing! Not simply new print or accessory piece!) But Shakesperean Actor is more than a spartan - I thought it's impossible, but at first we have Holmes and now this!

Maybe the skier, or DJ seems to be a "diver"?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

And as usual, I think I got first, but I never get credited. :/ Anyway... LEGO, for some odd reason, called the Bavarian guy "Lederhosen guy". :P He seems to have an obsession for lederhosen. :P

By in United Kingdom,

^ You should email: I don't always read comments in a timely manner on old articles.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@Huw: Considering my record, maybe you should. XD

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Huw: I just noticed that it says "Lederhoen guy" (in the "New in the database" ribbon)--should it not be Lederhosen guy?

I have to say, my favourites are the conquistador and the shakespearean. My brother has an excess of Aztec warriors from the last theme, so I think the conquistador will feel right at home... >:D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Plus, as an aside, can anyone else read what is on the DJ's record label? It looks like it could say something, but it could be complete nonsense.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I heard from someone who emailed Kevin hinkle (Excuse my misspelling) as he cleared some thing up, he also let slip that there will be at least another 2 years of CMF. This may be wrong, but i'm hoping for the best
PS- you misspelled lederhosen guy

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The Fairy has wings very much like the supervillain Killer Moth in the LEGO Batman 2 game. The vampire, alien female and evil robot are all cool, even if recycled they are still different and awesome variations that are not available anywhere else

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like that they had to specify ' Downhill Skier ' as opposed to what??? Uphill skier??? Water Skier maybe but they wouldn't be wearing a snow suit.
That's got to be the loser for me, enough of skiers and skateboarders. Also the red Cheerleader is boring. Hope they don't just making new colour equivalents of the other sport ones.
Conquistador and Actor I like the look of.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Thespian bio doesn't make sense. Plays every part from ... what about to ...?

The Thespian is a master actor, able to slip into any role you can imagine. He plays every part to perfection, from Romeo to Juliet (the lead actress was ill, and the show must go on, after all…), and receives a rousing standing ovation after each and every performance. He’s really good at celebrity impersonations, too.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@ xcrossx - it is as opposed to ski-jumping, cross country skiing, etc.

Gravatar
By in United States,

football player is the diver of this series. Athletes with the same number make for an odd team.
The Conquistador and the Deep Sea diver are Spartans (yup, 2 in this series)
and the Thespian is the Crash Test Dummy.

For me, the Crash Test Dummy was awesome, but I only needed three of them to really do what I wanted. The CTDummy needs more love! The original diver, however, mega dud.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@CCC female parts were all played by male actors until quite recently. There are some exceptions to that rule.

The Alien is possibly my least favorite, with the diver and robot next. But they should still find a place in my Modular Costume shop or my Olde Shoppe of Curios.

Cheerleader is one where I will look for multiples. Needed to oppose the blue team cheerleaders and for my Costume shop. :)

I want many pretzels. But I'm not sure what to do with the Lederhosen Minifig. :) :) :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Plasmodium: I'm thinking it's a good-natured rib at the band LMFAO (Ooooh, our favorite brick vendors slipped something past the radar...) as well as reading "DJ Rhuzhky".

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^Haha...I'll take your word for it! As I don't really know the band in guestion... :P

Gravatar
By in United States,

To me the actor, pirate and the evil robot are the Crash test dummies while the Conquistador, Diver, skier and the Businessman are the best! I would love to see a judge with the famous white wig next time...

Gravatar
By in Greece,

They all seem a bit average to me. Nice-to-have, but none in quantity. The skier, though a nice figure, is just over-done now. The only thing that could be worse is another skateboarder. They're also missing a trick here - I'd love to see a hairpiece that can take a visor or diving mask instead of having to use a helmet, but they just stick with the lazy option of printing goggles on the face.

I quite like the bat, as it's not an easy figure to obtain from sets, and it's a different colour. So-so on the alien queen though.

I like the city gent, but it's long, long overdue to have that bowler hat done in black - it's more relief than surprise - and where's his umbrella? If any, that's probably the one I'd look for several of, but hardly an army.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This series is certainly not as good as the past few - perhaps about equal to Series 1 were there not so many repeats.

For me, the Spartans are the actor, conquistador, DJ, and Lederhosen guy. The crash test dummies are the skier, perhaps the cowgirl, and the football player. Overall, though, I do like the inclusion of the man bat and the Alien Empress. For those who don't collect AC or MF, these are welcome additions to an encompassing minifigure collection.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The suitcase that the business man is carrying looks new and more square like than smoothed edges on the old ones

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm really excited for the man bats. I've.benn wanting to make my girlfriend a red rain batman, and these will help. Plus you always need more bad guys than good guys.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@ mkrey: "This is the first time since Series 2 that I am not interested in any of them."

Wait just a second, you mean THE Series 2 with Spartan, Baywatch babe, Surfer, Pharaoh, Karate guy and Mexican??
OK, I guess we all have our favorites..

For me S8 holds Football player, Conquistador (Spartan) and Actor, all others are Crash Test Dummies.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not one with short legs. Blame the hobbits!

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Why is everyone giving out about the skier? There was only one skier before, way back in series 2 - he's lonely and needs a girlfriend! :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why does everyone HATE the Crash Dummy? That one is my all time favorite of series 1. but anyway I think most of the series 8 are good.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I want evil robot for his torso and legs, awesome printing, will get many of them.

dj record label is 2 of the LEGO designers names who are also DJs ( watch the video).
also the vampire bat guy is a good guy (read his bio).

Gravatar
By in United States,

@The Reviewer, I heart the Crash Test Dummy. That one mini-fig has cost me thousands of dollars in other lego purchase. Is what it is... but the CTDummy Rules!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

These figures all look good. Though none lend themselves to "army " building like some of those in the previous series (i.e. Spartan / Roman / Gladiator / Viking / Elf etc.).

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

I WANT: Vampire, Santa, Conquistador and DJ.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can't wait to get a female companion for my alien commander! I also love the Conquistador! My daughter wants the Fairy. The worst one in my opinion is the football player.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Even though some of these aren't as unique as the other series I still think the prints on all of them are decent or have a decent part. My fav would be the diver because of the helmet the DJ because I have always wanted one, and the Bavarian guy. Love the pretzel. My least favorite would have to be the red cheerleader and the evil robot cause way too similar to the old ones. I thought it was weird that the football player didn't have a football was just a cheap way for lego to not have to make one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I saw a shelf lable for series 8 yesterday at Fred Meyer in Oregon. Not sure how early they put those up.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I actually kind of like this series, but understand what people are saying about the rehashes.
For me, the top three would have to be the conquistador, diver and the actor.
The bottom three - the Alien, Evil Robot and the Vampire Bat.
I find all the other figures quite appealing I have to say. I think the Lego have done quite a good job this time around.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Two more years (or most likely many more) seems perfectly natural... At the very least, they will want to create a girlfriend or teammate or opponent for every fig they have done so far. Then after four years of figs, they will probably just start systematically cycling (i.e., recycling) through all the same ideas from Series 1-10 all over again, just like they re-introduce classic themes periodically, and just like they re-design sets periodically, for the benefit of kids who are new to the hobby, and AFOLs who just came out of their dark ages and just started collecting!

And remember, most people don't collect every single one. They just buy a few and trade for their faves, or use BL!

I'm getting the DJ, the rival Cheerleader, and 1 Conquistador, and that is enough. 3 or 4 per series is 12 per year!

That is plenty!! =)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Connecting to what I said above, here are some *bold* predictions... ;)

A Red American-Football Player
A Blue Baseball Player
A Red Hockey Player
Hawaiian Kahuna Chief
Gladiator with Net and Trident
Dutch Girl with Tulips
Russian with Furry Hat
1950's Poodle-Skirt Girl
Hippie Girl
Disco Girl
Nerd Girlfriend for the Nerd Guy... ;)

etc, etc... I think you can see that there are tons more fun ideas!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

^^ Hmm, OK, OK, I will *ALSO* get the 1800's Diver, the USA Football Player, and a second Red Cheerleader...

This *IS* kind of addictive, huh?! ;D

Indy Out! =)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Plus, I am thinking that we don't really need to be in a frenzied hurry to grab all of these instantly... After all, even the much-sought-after-Spartan is still available now on BrickLink for just $7, over a year after his release... And that is about the same price that you might have paid to get him the moment he was available...!

In fact, are there any of them that are totally sold out on BrickLink...? Or any that have gone above the $10 mark?

Gravatar
By in United States,

One final note:

OMG, you guys, we totally get the Cheerleader's pony-tail officially in black for the first time, like, EVER...!! =D

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The diver and the conquistador are my favorites. They are because they look cool, but it is also cool to have the conquistador and the Aztec worrior from series 7 fight or trade.

The alien, robot and skier are my least favorite minifigs.
