Jedi News publishes list of 2013 Star Wars sets

Posted by ,

This, it is rumoured, is the list of Star Wars sets we can expect in the first half of 2013:

Planets series 3:

  • Kamino with Astromech Droid and Jedi Starfighter
  • Coruscant with Clone Pilot and Republic Assault Striker
  • Asteroid with TIE Bomber and TIE Pilot

Regular sets:

  • The Old Republic Battle Pack
  • Clone Troopers vs Droidekas Battle Pack
  • A-Wing including Admiral Ackbar, Han Solo and an A-Wing Pilot
  • AT-RT including Yoda, Clone Trooper and Assassin Droid
  • Z-95 Headhunter including three Clone Troopers
  • The Rancor Pit (as revealed at Comic Con)

It certainly sounds plausible, doesn't it. I believe the first edition of the 2013 retailers' catalogue is published about now and if that's the case, that could be the source of the information.

Love it all except the Coruscant planet set, would rather have seen it with a better figure/set.

By in United Kingdom,

Here are some of my opinions of these sets:

The Old Republic Battle Pack - £11.99, sounds excellent to me, as long as we get Old Republic Troopers with helmets.

Clone Troopers vs. Droidekas Battle Pack - £11.99, assuming those Clone Troopers are in phase 2 armour, this ought to be superb.

A-Wing - £19.99, the A-Win vehicle has not got enough love in the past from Lego and needs to be updated a little in my opinion, if the price is £19.99, then that would be pretty good for building a small fleet as well.

AT-RT - £19.99, this set sounds altogether quite odd to me, as having a model of only an AT-RT would make it smaller than a battle pack, so I am going to guess that something else must be included too. The Assassin Droid sounds a bit out of place, but hopefully it has been updated with IG-88's printed head piece.

Z-95 Headhunter - £39.99, far from a surprising choice for a model, this should not be too difficult to design and as long as one of those Clone Troopers is a pilot, I am satisfied with this offering. Some sources have suggested a Pong Krell Minifigure might be included, which would be absolutely brilliant.

The Rancor Pit - £39.99, I think the model we have seen at Comic Con looks quite good, as good as it is going to get without making it in full size and far too expensive anyway, so I am very pleased with this set (and of course that Rancor which I love)!

Planets Series 3 - £9.99, Kamino with an Astromech Droid and Jedi Starfighter should be quite nice, as long as the Astromech is new, perhaps R4-P17 which is the Astromech that goes with Obi-Wan to Kamino in Episode 2 and has not been released in the new head style as of yet. Coruscant with Clone Pilot and Republic Assault Striker sounds excellent, although I am not quite sure what the Republic Assault Striker might be, maybe a mini version of this: http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=9497-1 which would indicate an Old Republic Pilot rather than a Clone Pilot. The Asteroid with TIE Pilot and TIE Bomber sound s a bit dull to me, but as long as the Asteroid is not spherical, the planet itself should be alright and the model ought to be decent.

Anyway, since these are just rumoured currently, I will try not to raise my hopes too much and keep my fingers crossed that these will indeed be the Winter selection. We might expect an exclusive of some kind like the Battle for Geonosis set was a couple of years ago.

By in Germany,

Not too excited about this, especially no PT BPs or PT clones is slowly making me upset about the whole CW thing.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Do you think the rancor pit have the possibility to connect with Jabba Palace?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ we *know* that it does; Jabba's Palace is designed to sit on top.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Yay, my wallet can relax for a while now, because most of these sets don't interest me at all. I will most likely buy the A-wing and the Rancor pit, maybe the AT-RT if the Yoda minifigure is the movie version and not that ugly looking TCW version. Even thought these are only rumours, I was hoping for more ROTJ sets, i guess a rancor is enought for now though. If these rumours are true, It looks like 2013 will be the year of Lego Superheroes for me, lots of interesting stuff to look forward to there :)

By in Netherlands,

Except for The Rancor Pit, I am not too impressed about next years SW editions. Well I guess I will save some money then for other LEGO releases.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The battle backs, awing and dancer interest me but the others don't really do much in my view.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Old Republic battle pack?

Err, YES PLEASE!

Super stoked for this set, as a massive fan of the game. Looking forward to seeing set images.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I know people are going to moan about this wave, as they always will, but I like the sound of it. The A-Wing would be lovely with a bit more SNOT, and I'm always a fan of TIE-Bomber models. The last mini we had was coloured incorrectly and stuff, so this is something worse looking forward to. And given the things MOCers have done with the Death Star pieces, imagine what could be done with half and half of an asteroid?

Plus it'll look cute on a Christmas tree!

By in Philippines,

I hope the AT RT is improved...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll probably get The Rancor Pit, AT RT, A Wing, and planet sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is so cool I am really happy about the clone trooper and droideka battle pack all of the others sound nice cant wait.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

As long as I hear the words "Clonetrooper" and "Old Republic" I'm a happy camper.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Be nice if it was Kamino with Jango Fett and Slave I.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sign me up for a Rancor Pit (to go with my Jabba Palace I bought yesterday).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

i like the battle packs only if the clones will be phase 2 with printed visors! and maybe a more movie accruate drodikas

Gravatar
By in India,

The Battle Packs are the only things that I will buy. If Starwars gets rediculas and, puts very bad quality in the sets I'm not going to buy them. And if the A-wing is high price then, no way!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I got really excited when I saw that they were making Kamino, but its just with an astromech. This would have been a perfect time to finally release a Kaminoian, with a mini Arwha (the flying whale) or at the very least, make a true new armor Jango Fett with a mini Slave. Just with an astromech feels like they really wasted the potential it could have had.

Gravatar
By in United States,

long ago I determined that getting all the star wars sets is super expensive. Since then I've only been going for battle packs and star fighters

I'm excited Lego is finally doing a headhunter. It's the ship I have wanted most for years now. Unfortunately they're be doing the clone wars version and not the classic version. Well I have nothing against the version appearing in the show I wish Lego could show more respect to the classic expanded universe and the new republic era. It would have been a good opportunity to make minifigures of Corran Horn, Mara Jade, and the spirit of Exar Kun.

I'm also happy to hear they are making a new A-wing. I only have the 2000 version and it will be nice to have an update. In addition another Ackbar figure will be nice. I wonder what version of Han Solo will by portrayed?

I was expecting they would get around to making a new TIE bomber and Jedi Starfighter. Those two ships have not been made since 2002 and 2003

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^Here's hoping for an Endor Han Solo which would seem suitable to me. I agree with distortme and Roborider, it is unfortunate that we will not be getting a Jango Minifigure any time soon judging by this list.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is it me or is this list distinctly underwhelming?

Gravatar
By in United States,

These all seem intresting, but is the Headhunter from the Clone wars or the Expanded Universe?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Old Republic Battle Pack? Yes! But, the Kamino set comes with an Astromech Droid? Really? How about a Clone or a Kamioan?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@The Reviewer - I think we can assume the Clone Wars, it has only recently started appearing in the show and is going to feature very heavily in the upcoming season supposedly. Of course Clones are listed coming with it so it is presumably a Clone Wars version assuming the list is correct.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@The Reviewer - Yes, the Z-95 Headhunter has appeared in the Clone Wars but is more a major part of the expanded universe.

It is also rumored the Pong Krell will come with the Headhunter as well. (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Pong_Krell)

By in United States,

You know, I'm really getting sick of all of the clone wars sets that lego is producing. I get why they are putting so many CW sets out,but we haven't even since episode 2 sets for 10 years. Lego needs to start making more episode 1-6 sets again and drop the clone wars sets for a little while. It would be nice to see another jango fett's slave 1 or another mos eisely cantina. Instead of lego doing remakes of stuff all the time like the Y-wing or the X-wing they need to make sets like the naboo royal starship or even a jedi temple. I've been collecting lego star wars since 2004 and I can tell you they really changed since then. Prices have gone up, Sets have become smaller and now Lego just wants our money. For example the Gungan Sub this year was $69.99 with 465 pieces and 4 minifigures the only reason it cost that much was because they threw in the Queen Amidala minifigure. If this list is true the only sets I'm getting are the rancor pit, the A-wing and maybe the 2 battle packs. Lego has really dissapointed me.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Clone Troopers vs Droidekas Battle Pack sounds interesting, might be a good, cheap way of stocking up on both of them.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The battle packs that have been released haven't really impressed me since they offer only two of each side two clones and two droids not worth it! But this old republic battle pack if it comes with Jedi and clones if definitely worth it! Hopefully it offers more than that Arf trooper battle pack with those measly commando droids ugh they could have easily just put at least solid white clones instead!

Gravatar
By in United States,

^I would love to see some republic troopers vs. sith warriors. That would awesome!

I agree with starwarscollector98 though. They need to calm down on the Clone Wars sets and make some more sets from Episodes I-VI. It's getting ridiculous. It makes sense though considering that Clone Wars reaches out to younger audiences. I would love to see some remakes of scene sets as well, rather than star ships. They've made the A-wing three times already! Let's see a Mos Eisley Cantina remake or a Cloud City remake. C'mon Lego, give the AFOL what they want too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

ASTEROID!!!? You've got to be kidding me... Unless it's built out of bricks, I don't see how it can look at all like an asteroid. But some of these sets do sound interesting.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm incredibly torn on the idea of the Old Republic Battle Pack. I love the minifigs that came with my 9500 Sith Fury-Class Interceptor. But for a set that's a $90 price point and only comes with 3 minifigures, I would be both surprised and a little upset to see 2/3 of those minifigures (the two troopers) released in a battle pack.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@nightmarevalkyrie - I am really hoping we do not get any Jedi in the Old Republic Battle Pack so one can army build easily! I would like to see a Sith warrior though with a fairly non-descript mask so he can plausibly be purchased in multiples. I am hoping for two helmeted Old Republic Troopers, a Sith Trooper, and a Sith Warrior, perhaps with a brick built one of these: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sith_war_droid_Mark_I.

Gravatar
By in United States,

when are they gonna make the Mos Eisley cantina???
theres no other set to make besides that and the Naboo royal starship.
Make the Cantina already!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The only ones that are screaming at me are the Rancor Pit and the A-Wing, if only for the Admiral Ackbar fig.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

As a fan of OT sets, not terribly happy except with the A-Wing idea (way overdue for a re-release). Im not terribly excited by the Rancor put to be honest, it really needs Jabba's Palace to make it worthwhile, and im not too keen on spending $300AU (or more) for a display set that frankly doesnt even look that awesome.
Still, the A-Wing is on my want list and has been for some time, just waiting for a very good version

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This wave sounds pretty good, better than last Winter's wave.. I like the sound of those battle packs especially.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Totally agree with perfectlydark. I'm not keen at all on spending a significant of money on a display set simply to make the Rancor set look good. The only reason I can justify buying that set is for the Rancor itself. Other than that, its a waste of money. I will, however say that I am excited for the Headhunter simply because it's been one of my favorite EU vehicles for a long time. The droideka battle pack sounds interesting, but I'm at the stage in my star wars collecting life where minifigures matter, not armies. Also, the A-wing sounds great IF it is red and not green. I hope they finally get the design right and give it the sleek but chubby look the ship is iconic for. I would love to see a true endor han and even a newly designed Ackbar, even though the previous one was great. I don't know armor and a gun or something because in one of the Battlefront games you are indeed allowed to play as Ackbar and wreak havoc with an orbital blast from the Home One. Off topic, yes, but a cool thought nonetheless.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I will probably grab all of these except the rancor pit (which I have no desire to get, it would ruin the asthetics of the palace and only has 1 exclusive minifig, not counting the Rancor) if this list is true.

The Asteroid in the TIE Bomber Planet set probably is based off of the giant spherical asteroid from Episode V where Han & Company hide out from the TIE bombers inside a "cave". It will porbably be molded, pockmarked with crraters and cast in dark tan or bley.

The A-Wing sounds great, though seeing it in red or Blue (like Ralph McQuarrie's origional design sketches) would be cool.

I have not been at all satisfied with any of the Lego Destroyer Droids since the ones released with the Episode 1 sets, which match the best in scale and shape, despite being the oldest. Lego keeps trying to over-complicate them, and it drives me nuts.

I worry about the AT-RT though, since the inclusion of 3 minifigs indicates that it will be way to big to be minifig scale like the old one was...

I would love to see the Z-95, since I am a fan of the Star Wars EU, and would love to see more in this vein... Jade Shadow, Chiss Clawcraft, E-Wing, Sun Crusher: There are dozens of cool EU set ideas out there. The CW Z-95 is similar to the EU one, but different enough that it cannot be confused with an X-Wing like the standard version. Here is a link to the Wookiepedia article: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Z-95_Headhunter

Even as an EU nut, I have no Clue what the Striker in the planet set could be... Maybe an ARC-170, Republic V-Wing or a V-19 Torrent. If it is an old republic based set (contradicted by the clone pilot) then I am clueless, unless it is based off the Striker Fighter, but all the other planets thus far have been based on Ep. 1-6.

Also, I am for the Astromech in the Kamino Planet if they finally give us a good R4-P17

Gravatar
By in United States,

^Brickmeister1138

Well odds are it would not be R4-P17 because that particular droid is integrated into the starfighter. What I want is a remake of Obi-wan’s Delta 7A, that has not been out since 2000 and it would be a good excuse to get some AotC sets out.

I’m expecting the battle pack and the Headhunter will include clone’s from the 501st. If that’s the case it would actually work for army building (Who want’s an army of bomb squad). AT-RT will defiantly be a clone war’s variant and I expect it would be one of the smaller sets of the year. I also heard it might be a droid commander as oppose to an IG-86.

I hope they make more EU stuff in the summer wave. There are also the special addition sets that might not be on the list. Hopefully they could include an updated TIE Bomber or an Umbarain starfighter.

Considering the success of the Umbara arc in the clone wars it seemed they would have released a battle pack featuring Ubarain militia. I don’t know what to do with the OR pack. It seems kind of useless unless you also have the other ships from that era.

Lego seems not to be making buildings and locations much anymore. It’s because they are not swooshible. They even had to include that pointless ship in Palpatens’s arrest. Well a Theed, Geonosian arena, and Mastaphar would be great they would not come out often and when they did they would be ridiculously expensive.

Gravatar
By in United States,

None of these sets really interest me except for the AT-RT and the Old Republic Trooper Battlepack. The most disappointing is the Kamino planet set. Do we really need another astromech? What about a kaminoan? Lame...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

i did some resherce on the at rt hopes on episode three clone and yoda

Gravatar
By in United States,

@nkclarkiv8: Yes and yes!! New and improved cantina and cloud city sets, please (with a decent twin-pod cloud car). I would gladly pay the $119 Jabba palace price for these if done as well.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't buy this rumor for a second. There's not a single new character included.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^The clones,han,a-wing pilot, and yoda could be new. But im not sure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Seems good, lets hope Lego dosent price the A-Wing for $30.00...... I am going to get the Clones vs Droideka first due to the fact i love droidekas. If we are really lucky, we may have a 2% chance of getting original episode 2 clones with it, but I doubt it. The At-Rt seems interesting, however, Lego will over price it. The TOR battle packs seem like a good choice. We could finally get sith troopers for a much lower price.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^Unlikely we're be getting 2002 clones, they would probably be Phase II 501st.

Do you guys thing they would redesign the Droideka again? The version from the naboo starfighter was disappointing but if they are the same they would at least be consistent with last year's model.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The A-wing and Z95 have me interested.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Let's hope the AT-RT is an Ep. II/III-Version, not CW (I'd love to add non-CW Yoda to my collection).
Otherwise the Rancor and the A-Wing are on top of my wish list.

It's a nice release list. I'm happy there's not too much I'm interested in - now I can spend more money on LOTR and Super Heroes sets! :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

A-wing could be promising but I'm guess expensive likely £35 list seems short to me so hopefully more sets to be revealed.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I only buy OT sets, so this looks like a cheap six months for me if the rumours are correct.

I'll get the A-wing for sure, if only for Admiral Ackbar minifig. Not sure about the Rancor Pit yet. The set does not look really exciting.

Gravatar
By in Greece,

Judging by the last wave, where they just re-hashed some old sets and added some special minifigs, I'm going to make sure there's a defibrilator on standby before anyone can tell me the price of the A-Wing set. The Rancor Pit is bound to be daylight robbery too, since they know they've got a captive audience for it. Hopefully the 'asteroid' will be a custom moulding like the Death Star. The rest - well, the kids that are still watching Clone Wars are welcome to it.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

As usual, I don't even have a clue of what the non-OT sets are, nor do I care about them. I play SWTOR, but imo they are just fillersets. I agree with what some people said here about LEGO needing to tone down on the clown (or was it clone) wars stuff. But I guess there's a market for it, so it's just tough cookies for me.

So for me, I will get the rancor, and probably 2 A-wing sets. Even though I know they will be ridiculously overpriced yet again. I entered a toystore the other day, and started comparing licenced, to non-licensed LEGO products. The price difference is just ludicrous. Small LEGOset, non-licenced €8,99; licenced €15,99! X-wing for €74,95, TIE-fighter for 59,95...

So in a way, I should be thankful for this meager release..saves me some money :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

i find it really funny how there seems to be a real hatred of the clone wars series...i think we need a little perspective here people.

1. if there was no clone wars series where would we get any star wars fix? (rubbish computer games? ba dliterature)

2. george is being clever, the clone wars is allowing him to keep up star wars interest in preparation for the live action series coming soon.

3. if there was no clone wars do u think lego would carry on with the licence? like most of u have already said too many re-issues and remakes of exisiting sets, now imagine if there was no clone wars and nothing but reissues every year......

4. if the clone wars stuff is released to bulk up the issues each year it means that the re-issues are further apart and hopefully get new designers giving their spin on them and new peices in new colours.

and lastly lego is made for kids not adults, we just buy them, stop moaning and imagine if there wasnt any lego....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Put me down for an A-wing and Z-95. I've been hankering for a Headhunter since I made one using the parts from 7130 no less than thirteen years ago!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not really bothered about another A-wing or Z-95 to be honest.
We have had A-wing fighters already and the Headhunter is just a X-wing without the foil wings (an I-wing?). So unless we have some exciting colour scheme to ensure that the A-wing is worth getting, and the Z-95 does not look a rubbish X-wing, then I am not getting excited.
But having said all of that, hopefully the pictures may change my mind.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@nameloc Where does it say that lego is only made for kids and not adults. I don't ever remember hearing that. We aren't complaining about the clone wars sets we are just simply saying it's getting old and that we want more episodes 1-6 sets like it used to be. Lego seems that they are just favoring little kids (even though that is the group that plays with there lego the most). Teenagers and adults aren't getting much. For example out of the regular sets that are on this list are not even fair. 2 from EU 2 from OT and 3 from clone wars (most likely won't be EP 2 or Ep 3). Also most all of the clone wars sets are new, none of the OT or PT sets i've seen in a while have been totally new designs.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I can't wait till they come out I'll probaly buy all of them

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can't wait for the headhunter, but I hope its the one from Empire at War, not the clone wars.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I concur with others... when the hell will a new Jango Fett be released?? There's been a grand total of ONE back in 2002.
