Toys R Us Bricktober details

TRU Bricktober event, 2012This news is hot off the press: the LEGO community team sent it out just 5 minutes ago...

October is right around the corner and that means it’s once again time to celebrate 'Bricktober' at participating Toys 'R' Us Stores.

This year, the 'exclusive' gift-with-purchases will be the Vintage Minifig collections, volumes 1 to 4. It's interesting that that should be the case given some of them are now 5 years old. I wonder if it's a new production run, or a means of getting rid of surplus stock. I don't know what the qualifying purchase threshold is, but more details will be available nearer the time at ToysRUs.com, I suspect.

There will be two events going on as well:

- On Saturday October 20 there will be a LEGO Creationary challenge
- Of more interest to us, on Saturday October 27 you'll receive a free Monster Fighters accessory pack, 5000644, the one that was given away at an event in Canada last month. See the poster, left, for more details.

TRU Bricktober setsUpdate: it appears from the comments that there are some differences between the minifig packs and the originals linked to above, so I've added the picture LEGO provided so you can compare them yourself.

One set, not one minifig, each week during October. Presumably starting wih volume 1 on 1st October.

I can't remember where I read it, but I think I saw that the purchase point will be $60 or more.

By in United Kingdom,

Haven't the previous Bricktober giveaways been single 'vintage' figures?

By in United States,

The past two years it has been magnets of vintage figures. The first year were the take apart magnets. The second year, the new magnet build where only the head and name plate came off.

You have to spend $60 a week to get the pack. And the minifigure packs are not the same as before, the minfigures in each one are slightly different because there are only 4 volumes and before there was 5.

Do I need a child to get the free LEGO on October 27th?

Don't suppose people know what the weekly sales/offers will be
Im guessing a BOGO50 is at least one week

By in United States,

So how do you get the accessory pack? Just by being there?

By in United States,

On a good note for the completists - you can now get the 5000644 poly for Monster Fighters to complete your collection (avoids looking in the mirror...)

The things we go through for 12 pieces...

Based on the image posted at FBTB, volume 2 (blue) and volume 4 (black) look the same, but volume 1 (yellow) has a girl instead of the mad scientist, and volume 3 (green) has a doctor, forest woman, and ninja princess instead of an imperial soldier, black falcon and yellow classic spaceman.

Still cant wait to get them all!

^ Interesting observation, thanks.

Someone at ToysnBricks said that quantities received at his TRU were extremely limited, and others have found these for sale on the shelves at TRU. So it will be interesting to see how many people actually get one of these next week.

Awesome,I'm going!

With the price markups TRU has implemented this year I'm afraid these items won't be enough for me. Buy 2 get 1 free (without restrictions) is what will get me to blow a few hundred bones at TRU. My fingers are crossed!

From a TRU source: Most stores will only get 10-20 Vintage minifigure sets, to be given out free (one per customer per day) with a LEGO purchase of $60. My nearby store accidentally put them all out early at $25 a set (10 units of each volume) during the Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale week, and they were cleared out within a few days by I presume dealers/resellers. For myself I got 1 each of volumes 2,3, and 4 for about $40 total (with coupon). Yes, a few of the sets are not exactly the same as before as noted in previous comments. I suppose I could have waited and got them free, but since they all sold out quickly at my store anyway, I'm glad I picked them up early. Good luck to everyone that wants one.

One more difference between the original and the photos at FBTB is that the blacktron figure in volume 4 (black) does not have a visor and has yellow hands. Which really does make him look like a blacktron imposter.

From the sounds of things these minifigure sets will be in short supply and require a higher price threshold than before. I'm assuming this promotion will carry over into Canada since we've had the same giveaway items for the last two Bricktobers. If estimates about spending $60 are correct in the States, Canada's might equal something stupid like $70-90. I honestly don't have too much more to buy until 2013 so hopefully TRU Canada will be generous like last year and clear some stuff out for 50% Off. Who knows, maybe the early Christmas rush might give me a chance to buy some of the Friends or Lord of the Rings sets... but I won't hold my breath.

TRU Canada has been doing 20% off for the past few months!!! They're clearly trying to bleed me white with those stingy sales.

Hot damn, I can now finish my MF collection.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I may actually buy these. I just wish that they continued with this theme, so I could buy alot of packs with Blacktrons and sell the other figures equally at 5$. Just wish Lego decided to use the ORIGINAL space helmet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well this is interesting... But if that numer to qualify is indeed $60... I'll have to pass. The thing i really want to know is are they Chinese plastic or not? I assume they would be, but I'd love to hear I'm wrong on this one. Maybe that would be enough to get me awake early every Sunday for a month.

Ypres - did you check out toysnbricks for what's happening in Canada? Canada seems to be having something completely different this year: A minifigure trading day, build a vampire event, and a Friends event.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It appears that LEGO has taken the Fifth Vintage and mixed those minifigures throughout the other four while removing a few from the first four. Why did LEGO not just throw in the Fifth as a bonus instead of doing all the jumbling?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the idea though the closest TRU is 1hour away from my house. Though I might go because it is really cool!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego can't use the Space helmet, that piece mold broke decades ago.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These minifigure collections look truly great. I never bought them back in 2008-2010, and I am sure others did not as well. This seems like a good chance, but I still think it's hard to reconcile TRU's extortionate Lego prices with a free gift, even one as magnanimous as this.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^^How do you know that the mold broke? LEGO says that they never throw away old molds or do anything to the old molds. The Space Helmet was modified with pegs sockets on the sides, and then it eventually got the visor stopping additions. These are all individual molds, too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm confused, so what do I need to do to get these? Is it possible just to buy them from TRU?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego molds are not modified they make new molds. The mold would be thirty years old and be broken. Where did Lego say they don't throw out old molds? Molds get weak and break. Sometimes they remake the same piece in a new mold. Other times, like the space helment, Lego decides a new piece would be better and they change and evolve the piece. Its why Lego stopped making the cypress tree piece. It broken, LEGO wasn't going to use it in sets and choice not to make a new one.

What do you have to spend to get the monster fighters polybag? Im only interested in that at the moment.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Seems like a lot of different information here... I am going to call my local TRU and ask if they have the sets and what the requirements are...I dont really need to spend $240 to get 4 of them so I wonder if you can buy them outright....

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I already have set 2-3-4-5... So.... I'll pass on theses. I'll be probably spending a lot in October on Lego.com (Haunted House and xmas cottage) since we are suppose to get double point. Lets hope for the free shipping.

But if we get up north the Monster fighter polybags, I might do a visit on the 27th. I know that my girlfriend son wants to go, to the minifigure switch day.

Think the advertising in Canada, was saying a mininum of 20 sets per store. Which it aint much.... And we have another promotion, a free construction guy (city squad) with 35$ Canadian or more of Legos.

Ypres: If I remember correctly, I throwned the advertissing in the recycling bin, you need to buy for 75$ Canadian (exept liquidation set), in order to get your hand on the set. Ill need to check back on the site tomorrow when its going to be online...

Gravatar
By in United States,

@legozrool no its not the same polybag as lego is giving away

Gravatar
By in United States,

@everyone; People don't already have these figures? Only three there that I don't have, which I can buy second-hand online. I also don't need multiples of any of these. But seriously, you need to spend $240 to get these?

Personally, there's no point in going out of my way to get these, especially if there are inferior alternatives to the original minifigs, the most offensive being the possible cheap plastic.

If you're getting them to be completists that's one thing, but I would caution that trying to complete toy lines is a slippery slope. I've tried a couple times, and eventually you realize that the company will slap a logo on just about anything. I ended buying things that I actually did not want. Also, mass produced stuff isn't really valuable anymore (apart from sentimentally), and won't be for a really long time.

By in United States,

The collection with the black box looks the best, especially for the castle and space themed figures. :P

By in United States,

Does anyone know what day the promotions start? I couldn't find anything on the toysrus website.

By in Canada,

Started today in Canada. I picked up 7346 Seaside house, 7848 TRU truck at 50% off, and got Set #1 (6018631) and the mining quad 30152 as freebies.

Thresholds are $75 for the Vintage sets, $35 for the Polybag.

Last year in October TRU threw a ton of great sales, and advertised every week's at the start of the month. The sales have been dec over the summer but hopefully they ramp up closer to Christmas here... would like to get some of the bigger LOTR sets on sale. It's a shame they recently started selling above MSRP; makes some sales not really worth bothering with. It's not as bad a markup as Americans seem to have to deal with but given how much more our sets already are it's a bummer!

Holding out for double VIP/free shipping from shop lego!
