By in Finland,

WOW!

Make that $260/£160 for the inevitable "must buy two and stick them back to back" :-) for 160cm of train'y goodness.

Seems those crafty guys from Billund are hitting them out of the park in terms of recent 'collector' trains.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

oh WOW!!!!

My (hopeful) predictions of a new high speed train this year were right then.
AWESOME!!

Love the SNOT technique for the black and white arrows on the side.
Woman train driver is a nice change as well.
Love those minifigs.
Shared bogeys as well. Nice!

New creator expert series, eh? double wow!

Stunned.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That is such a nice model!

I can't wait to get my hands on that :D, the price is really good and I hope this Creator Expert continues because Creator has lots of really nice models such as 2011's Lighthouse island and this new Creator line could open up to tons of very detailed and well priced sets. Very excited!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

*excited* love my trains - looking forward to this :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

ALSO - new head (beardy trendy glasses) and is the tan hair new? And the green bottles?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This looks like a loverly train.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hmmm $130 I dont know, but it is sure a nice train. Lots of detail.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks great but I think I will hold out for a new steam engine.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really nice. I'm hoping for a BOGO50% to buy two.
@Timoonn, they even matched the colors in that TGV photo. Wow!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Very nice. So I take it that Creator Expert is the Modelteam II theme fans have been asking for?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Purple and grey torsos look new to me too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh wow! This is awesome! I'd been considering trying to get the parts to build James Mathis' classic TGV but this is just epic. Buy two of these, some more Power Functions, and maybe even some more track! Hello 2013!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks very nice to me, this will definitely be going on my wish list!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It makes sense for this to be split into two smaller sets. :)
O no lego haven't done that, it is just my imagination. ;)
I guess they thought £190 for one train might be a bit too much.

Now I know why I bought 2 passenger trains.
I needed the power functions for this train set......

Gravatar
By in Germany,

An £80 train with 1,351 pieces?! When has LEGO become so cheap? :P

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I am not usually one for buying trains but this looks excellent and a pair would look even better. My wife says I can have them as a late Christmas present, can't wait.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Extendable pantographs! The beardy face is a new miners one, the tan hair is Luke Skywalker, the grey torso Rodney Rathbone from MF and I've seen the purple torso somewhere but can't think where (maybe one of those builder buckets actually). The green bottle is new, but seems to be worryingly held by the conductor in every picture...

I see they have snuck in one of those sneaky 'two sets back to back' (a la medieval joust) again!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

And they snuck in a coffee machine. Can't see the flick-fire missiles though?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

wow i want but I cant believe it will stay at £80 as I feel they will do the same as with the haunted house by getting us all excited and wanting it. Then raising the price before it goes on sale. Its a really cool set :)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This looks like a really amazing set. I hate the concept of buying two of them just to make 1 complete train but this is such an awesome set that I haven't completely ruled out buying it yet. It is unlikely I'll get it though since the 2013 modular building is the set that I want the most.

Gravatar
By in United States,

130 for the set huh? Sounds like a future 'price correction' to me..
At 130 this is nice, I also like that it is not a classic locomotive.
Though I laugh at it being 'three train cars' more like the engine and two cars, but I guess that is splitting hairs.

Interesting how it looks like the grill bricks that make up the arrow seems to be painted and not a sticker.. maybe that is just the pics though
UPDATE, never mind.. it is a building technique..

Gravatar
By in United States,

80UK is also less than 1% cheaper than the 130US, so it's exactly correct.

Gravatar
By in Pakistan,

@brixton .. What is the modular building set for 2013 ?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

New Creator "Expert" series? This build seems pretty easy to me, as 1,351 piece builds go. Anyways, I'll be getting this. $150 seems quite a good price, as the Maersk Train had about 100 less pieces and was five dollars more. Actually, you'll have to make that $300, Because of the inevitable "put two together" factor. This is obviously the original TGV train. Looking forward to it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hope this set is released early in 2013. Really looking forward to more Creator 'Expert' reveals!

Gravatar
By in United States,

It should be released January 2013, maybe TRU will have it December 2012, who knows.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Drat! Great to set it available in January

Gravatar
By in United States,

Creator 'Expert' series, huh? More, please.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I guess Lego finally branded their 10000 series sets with the blue studded borders as the Creator Expert series, now there should be no more discussion of where the modular buildings and large architecture models fit in (one can wish...).

Great train too, although I would need two to make it complete.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Will there be a reveal at GWLS and Brick Con next weekend, if so what? Typically next weekend a set is revealed. The Imperial Flag ship, Joust set and Daigon Ally have all been reveal at these shows.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is nice... Creator Expert series could be good- hopefully a little less odd than some of the Creator set elements have been and more Town and City-based pieces (like trees and shrubbery for example).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh, I like it! Scratch that, I LOVE it!!
I am totally buying two and linking them together, after modding the middle bogie.
Looks like I finally realize my dream of owning a TGV model train, and in Lego to boot!
C'est génial et formidable! :D

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I'm in love.

I love the orange, and the fact that yeah, it's a TGV engine. I like the sleekness of it (it's a shame about the small windows, and the fact that the windows are at the wrong height for a sitting minifig).

But those doors! Seriously Lego, you did the "hinge the doors off black handle pieces in the carriage connectors" trick back with Emerald Night. And it really didn't work then, either. Unless they're glued in place, the handle-bricks shift and move which makes it darn hard to shut the doors.

Aside from that - a great train. Want.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Slow down everyone. Lets not big it up or they'll change the price.

Although £208 for full train plus Power Functions (two motors because it will be heavy) is expensive.

Why 6 minifigures? Way too many.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Lucky I just sold my 7938 because now this will sell like hot cakes! Not my thing but I can see this Expert theme going a long way, but it depends what the other sets will be. Modulars? More trains? I like it how if you buy 2 trains you can combine them. Orange bricks are great. And would you look at the thing? It's neater than neat!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm not a huge train fan, but I can't help but like this. It looks very nice, and I love when they include interiors. The minifigures aren't great (two of the women have the same face, plus I have all the torsos), but it does include an interesting trans green bottle! I also like how there's a toilet included, although I can't really see how it looks yet.

Plus, at £80, this is quite a steal! I was expecting at least £100 when I saw it.

You say a new Creator Expert series? I wonder... will these be Exclusives? What else will be in this range? I'm excited!

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I know what to save my christmas money for!
Hope it's on sale before though.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

@The Baron
Good point ... everyone please stop talking about how Lego are giving us good value or they'll read this and decide to fleece us like they did on the HH.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Mesdames et Messieurs bonjour et bienvenue à bord du TGV n° 10233 au départ de Billund et à destination de chez moi! La SNCF vous remercie et vous souhaite un agréable voyage... :)

Gravatar
By in Australia,

^ LOL

Love it. Been waiting for a new train.

I'm guessing about $200 for Australia. (Based on Maersk no. of pieces and price, and Thomson & Thompson's comments)

Still want a new steam train too though. A Garratt would be cool. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garratt

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

It baffles me why this set is put under "Creator" category. I was expecting "more photos" to show another 2 alternate builds (like all Creators in the recent years) but end up dissapointed. The official photosets are befitting those taken for "Advanced Models" to showcase its intricate details and itemised offerings (like a cup ,for examples) .LOL.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Creator 'Expert' is replacing 'Exclusive' if I remember Jamies words correctly.

Gravatar
By in Israel,

Wait... new monorail?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Great creator series...will be my next one after lighthouse :p
Tweed to give it some mod to make the wheels in right formation :p

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Great set this, looks as though it has a new element as well a inverted tile!, plus it's not all stickers, has some printed elements too. Can't wait for this, very nice indeed!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I need four. Minimum. "Need", no, really, "need".

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think this is the first Creator set to include guns.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@caperberry - The flick fire missiles must be hidden inside somewhere and extend out...

@John11380 - Perhaps a Modular Building for next year, although I too was surprised when this came up as things are almost always revealed at those two conventions.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Be-Burger It's a train, not a monorail.

@Zackula Guns? What are you talking about?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Matthew the grey torso is of the monster fighters peg leg hero

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

@Duq - thats how I remember it too - allthough I think he called it the 'Direct Exclusive'.
@Spindarren - You are right! Jamie did talk about a new element - the inverted tile. And the door is a printed element.
My 7 year old son was ready to buy a set right at the presentation - and I don't think it has any thing to with the fact, that his favorit colour is orange ;-)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@ Duq @Sandman when did he say so...? Thanks!

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

@milkbottlec - as I recall it, it was in the designer video that he talked about the new piece.
@huw - the event took place in Skærbæk (Skaerbaek) not Skaerberk ;-)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@SandmanDK "My 7 year old son was ready to buy a set right at the presentation" I feel so sorry for him, it is going to be hard enough for us grown-ups to wait 3 months! At least he's got time to save up his pocketmoney/allowance . . .

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

@Chocolate - I'm affraid his pocketmoney/birthdaygiftmoney and all other kinds of money are reserved for a big stack of other sets - like the CITY mine, Helm's Deep and things like that. And he hasn't quite understood, that the money only can be spent once (he's got that from his mother ;-) )

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Very nice looking set. I'm glad they've not padded it out with another station.

I wonder what odds I'll get at the bookies on the price NOT going up...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

It's great to see another great train release from TLG. I just hope they take notice of the buzz created from just a single train, and decide to bring back trains as a regular release category... I'll take 2 please!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This looks really cool!

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

this one looks great! main gripe is the BIG stickers on the sides cos u cant do without them. i wonder why the designer didn't bother to use bricks like in the smaller arrows further down. the trouble with stickers here is that their orange colour might not match with the bricks.

Also, there are not a lot of orange bricks here (even though it seems like it on the picture). the 3 decks are long gigantic orange plates and lots of 6-by-1s near the roofs. there are a lot of chunky bricks here as well. i suppose that's expected of a train set.

yeah, i'm more looking forward to a steam engine than this. cos in asia, this train doesn't look like anything at all. would love to have japanese bullet train though. lol^^

Gravatar
By in United States,

@devilhead;
Look at the roofs.

Gravatar
By in France,

@johnnie_tee

you're dead right, those stickers MAKE the whole colour scheme of the train. Once they start falling apart, the train really loses about 80% to 90% of its appeal. Its the same on the Maersk train. I'd happily spend an extra €5 just to have those two bricks printed - like it was done on the old black and red "TGV" from 1985.

Plus I hope there are enough spare elements to extend the lower faring when making the whole "one bogey for two cars" when joining up the two sets I will inevitably buy.

Another question is: do I sell off one of my Emerald Nights to get this? I've got one built, and two to spare - but then I could only make a 2 carriage EN!! Decisions...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm so excited for this set... I've loved TGV trains since I was a young child, and part of me has always wanted one rendered in Lego. I'm especially excited to stick two back to back to make a realistically long train; the city trains always tend to have two engines and one car, which prevents cost-effective expansion.

I'm somewhat surprised no one has said this yet, but the pieces with the slanted stripe image on the engine ARE printed. Jamie specifically says that in the promotional video, which someone posted a link to above. I'm really glad Lego made that decision, especially with such an amazing model.

Gravatar
By in France,

^Really?

Well this is great news indeed then! I was still gonna buy a couple, now I'll do so with no qualms whatsoever

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Creator remains the best theme. It can provide for any other theme (ok mostly town), has massive potential and guarantees the original Lego experience with honest building pieces and techniques. A giant train was still a huge surprise though.

Gravatar
By in {Unknown country},

@johnnie_tee and @BrinaOg

the diagonal tiles ARE printed, only the numbers are stickers

Gravatar
By in France,

^yes, as I aknowledged in my second message. However, what about the grille on the nose piece - also looks like a sticker? Jamie didn't mention it in the list of new elements - plus you can see it on the sticker sheet (I'm referring to the youtube video of course). Still thats far from being a dealbreaker.

I'm curious tho' - how many of you like having huge long trains of 4 to 6 feet in length? Doesn't it require a massive set up for it not to dwarf your oval of rails?

Gravatar
By in France,

Fly down the track in the Horizon Express! ...
Then take to the tracks in luxury ...
Ride the rails in high-speed LEGO style ...

Does it include track?

Gravatar
By in Italy,

I hoped since a long time of an Expert Creator Subtheme, so now I'm happy to see my hopes became reality :) .

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, that is hideous. From the pictures people linked, obviously it is true to life, but why make a model of a really ugly train, even if it was historic? The original shinkansen was both historic and beautiful, although the shape might be even more challenging. In part it's that I hate LEGO's shade of orange anyway. It's the only LEGO color that I just can't stand, except as a small accent. It's so garish and grating... combined with black and white it looks like a Halloween party favor. Why not bright light orange, which is a lovely color with not enough pieces available? Or dark orange, another great LEGO color? The minifigures are meh too. Anyway, I do love the pantograph.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those orange chassis plates are going to make it tough to build MOC cars without relying on this set as the source, smart move by LEGO.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Yes, finally, a new train. More to drool over then cry when it goes out of production...

XD

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The one thing I love about this train is the length of it when you put two of them together. It looks like a real train. The thing I hate about it is that you have to buy two sets to make a complete train.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This model is begging for a custom version that's the correct length for the other dimensions :)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

"Available in January." WTF? This is a PERFECT christmas gift! How can you not make this available for christmas?

Gravatar
By in Serbia,

I was at the presentation.

It will be available in January, and I very much doubt they'll be out sooner because at this point, there are no pre-production samples - the one present at the event was a prototype.

There are no stickers, other than numbering. Everything else is printed.

Creator Expert is the new name for Exclusives and should also incorporate modular buildings and such (i.e. they are re-branding the entire 10000 subline).

There is a new element in the set, 2x2 inverted tile (very nice).

PF elements are not included in order to keep the price reasonable and to make purchasing multiples easier (without getting unwanted duplicate PF elements such as remote controls).

It was specifically planned for January to boost January (i.e. post-Christmas) sales.

Orange color was chosen in order to avoid mix-ups with regular City trains which are red, yellow, and green.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

@Sammael, The designer video at 5:44 shows the sticker sheet which also has a control panel sticker and a nose sticker.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Anyone going to attempt a 9v conversion?
