Apologies for the downtime today

Posted by ,

Brickset was unavailable from 06:40 to 11:45 BST today due to a problem with the database server. A quick transatlantic phone call to our web host, which I couldn't do any earlier in the day due to the time difference, got it sorted. I apologise for the inconvenience.

From my perspective, you don't ever have to apologize to us for service. Your website has been an amazing gift to the community which I appreciate wholeheartedly!

Ummm, I woke up at 11:50-ish, so I didn't notice the downtime! Wait, is your web host... from the USA?

By in Canada,

I was watching movies and cartoons, then went to bed, so I didn't notice anything. But I agree with jamie, no other person could make a Lego website as good as this(not even Lego).

I totally agree with Jamie. you never need to apologize yourself. This is just the best lego site there is after LEGO.com. I'm just very happy that this site exists =D

As everyone stated before, there is no need for apologies, things like that happen, and your doing a great job with the site anyway!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. But it wouldn't be half the site it is without help from all the admins and of course all of you for contributing :-)

@Alemas, He did say "transatlantic", but that COULD mean South America. Probably not, though.

Also, Huw, I never saw the downtime! :)

By in Spain,

I agree with the comments above, this site is so wonderful and user-friendly that we don't mind a small breakdown like the one this morning. Glad to see it's fixed now, so we can keep enjoying brickset :)

Yes, the website host server is in the US.

It's great to hear that all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes is appreciated, even if it isn't obvious what we're up to much of the time; we do this for the love of the hobby, so if what we're doing isn't making things better for you guys, we need to know about it. Thanks, especially to Jamie, for the kind words.

There are some things we've got in the works at the moment, again based on the invaluable feedback from the recent questionnaire, which should start to become obvious over the next month or two, so stay tuned !

By in Germany,

I'm curious: Why is the web host in the US? Why not in the UK? If you can't reply, it's ok!

By in United States,

The site is hosted by Northstar Computer Systems (http://www.northcomp.com) and has been for many years. The company is run by an AFOL, and they host a lot of LEGO related sites, including BrickLink.

Northstar provides an excellent service, and if you're looking for web hosting I can highly recommend them.

Why the US and not the UK? Good question. It doesn't really matter where in the world it's hosted but given that the majority of Brickset's users are in the US it probably makes sense to host it there.

@Huw: How odd: a web-hosting company run by a LEGO-lover! I didn't know that this Northstar hosted a lot of LEGO-related sites!
