Frodo cooking

30210 Frodo with cooking cornerThe Sun promotion ends today -- thank goodness, I've been getting fed up making special trips into town every day this week.

Here's today's little set, 30210, Frodo with cooking corner, which is quite cute and, just for a change, is conflict, crime and weapon-free.

My only criticism is that the sausage doesn't fit in the pan on the stove properly: a couple of 1x1 round plates to raise the hood would have fixed that.

So, that's the end of that then, well, until the next one, probably in May, anyway!

By in United Kingdom,

A nice model and a suitable end to what has been a great promotion in my opinion. Thanks for these mini reviews as well Huw.

Got mine, and as always it was reasonably quiet at 'Smiths and I got some (more) of yesterday's Uruk Hais too, since they never use up their quota in a day.

Eastleigh was chaotic, people leaving with armfulls/boxes of polybags?!

By in Ireland,

I do love the contrast between today's peaceful little domestic scene and yesterday's bloodthirsty warrior. ;)

By in United Kingdom,

A great little set. I picked up 5 today from my Smiths. I got there at 9.40, only three other people there all of which came with big bags so I feared they were planning on grabbing all of them. thankfully not it turns out. By the time the store opened at 10am the queue was pretty big and stemed through the mall, some 30 people back.

I was only really interested in the 2 LOTR sets this promotion and pleased to have picked up sufficent copies. this set will be great and buying five you get a nice selection of sausges, cups and the clear goblet thing. As well as loads of flowers and stems.

Perfect for future sets i think. This cooking set I will add on to Bag end as a sort of outdoor BBQ, the additional flowers can be also be used to add to the set as well as the food for the Dwarfs. I then have a choice over the cups and goblets. Again could be used in Bag End or alternatively the barrell escape set thats coming out. All in all a great set and some good parts for other projects as well.

By in United Kingdom,

I must say this has been by far the best Sun promotion up to date, I wonder what they will include next time, 'Friends' maybe?

By in Australia,

Heh. Conflict, crime and weapon free?

Maybe, but you're still dealing with obesity (the sausage) and alcoholism (everything else).

:)

Thanks for the reviews Huw, and yes glad the promotion is over too!

Today was busy in Bristol. Lots of people pushing in to the line. Plus i got lots of evil stares as i left the shop with 10 copies of the sun and 10 minfigs ;o)

But there were loads left so everyone would of gots some.

I'm glad the promo is over so i can get back to not rushing around to make sure i get some free lego. Wish the ghost set was in this promo. But hey theres always next time.

By in United Kingdom,

Picked up 6 Frodos (2 for me and 4 to trade) this morning - as predicted, some left over Uruk Hai sets too! Thankfully the promo's over now and we can all return to semi-normality before the Christmas sales ; )

Just returned from WHSmiths MerryHell (that's not a typo) and even though the shop had been open for ten/fifteen minutes there was still a big que in there. Most of the people were carrying multiple copies of the paper and one old chap had at least ten in his arms. (^^How can you be sure that there will be sufficient for everyone when people are buying such quantities?^^)
I bought one paper, recived my set and headed home. Lovely little set and my first lego hobbit.

Thanks for the great mini-reviews Huw.

Stew.

Didn't bother today Always find Sundays the worst day for queues and greed Must be the later opening brings the worst out in people Have enjoyed this promo the best so far ?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My local WHS was enforcing a maximum of two per customer this morning.
The girl on the check-out was quite grumpy; the chap in front of me asked if there were "any of yesterdays' left?" ... she snapped back "No. We ran out before lunchtime".

By in Switzerland,

I agree as glad its over and not having to make daily trips to town for free lego but have loved the sets. I asked about any left over from yesterday but there was none but got some extra quinjets so I came away happy :)

By in United States,

It's been terrible for me having to walk down to get free Lego sets every day, just awful.

Oh wait, I'm in the USA and we don't have such things :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ But you have polybags available in stores that we do not. I think it balances out (and away from polybags you pay about 70% of what we do in the UK for just about all Lego).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

kinda worried because my Dad went to Gyle WHSmith after midday... I really hope it's not all sold out like yesterday :(

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If you put the unused white flower petal in the pan it looks like Frodo is cooking a fried egg to go with the sausage!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@mini_mads1980 - THAT IS GENIUS! A Hobbit breakfast for a hungry hobbit (although is it his first, or his second?)

My Dad just brought me home two of these and also strangely one of the Avengers from last weekend!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

didnt bother to go out for this one ..... too cold outside

By in United Kingdom,

For me this is def the best set by far. Useful brown pieces, the various accessories are good, and the Frodo minifig is top-notch. Was thinking the short trousers are good for lego children, the torso could work nicely for some North Pole elves. Any lego santa will be needing lots of elf helpers at this time of year.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Santa minifig in Series 8 figures @Noahs-Dad would be a perfect companion for the elves! However I'll most likely use the torso for Gavroche! xD Back on topic, I think this is a lovely little set!

'...conflict, crime and weapon-free....'

But strangely promoting excessive drinking... That barrel of homebrew looks like it holds more than the daily unit allowance :)

Gravatar
By in Europe,

I didn't go for this one as I already have plenty of the frodo minifigures. Drove past toys r us at 12 and there was a que! Must of Been popular today then. And it opened at 11. I agree a nice set but much more in favour of yesterday's Uruk hai army. Might try and get this cheap on eBay then...

By in United Kingdom,

This is the one I thought I would miss out on, as I had a full Sunday with no gap to shop, and had convinced myself I didn't really want it anyway - but thanks to my wife's desire for a quick Harrow shop between publicising our musical and rehearsing for it in the afternoon, I managed to pick up 5 from the Harrow WHS. Again, nothing left from the previous day, but that's hardly surprising!

And I was glad I did; this is a lovely little set, the only one which forms a proper little scene, in my view. The pan, sausage and bottle are terrific pieces which I will get much use out of, and - since I'm not, strictly speaking, a LotR collector (yet) - this is my first chance to get hold of Frodo's hairpiece, which I can already see uses for in my MOC minifigs.

It's been a great - if exhausting - week; I look forward to having time to actually enjoy the Lego I've bought!

And Huw, may I add my grateful thanks for your daily reviews; they've kept up the excitement and enthusiasm of this giveaway for me, and made me feel part of a communty. Thank you.

By in Hungary,

Is there any possibility to get any of the SUN's polybags from now on? (I mean if I don't want to pay around 2-6 GBP each for them to the ebay sellers?)

Thanks!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Haga, Which one's are you after?

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

The mining quad mainly, (firefighter quad would also be ok), but I would be a buyer to any of them.

Thanks!

By in Europe,

If Lego do the promotion again next year, we could be seeing new starwars poly bags and maybe hobbit ones ( rumours of new Lotr theme in march with 8 new sets as well!)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Still loads of these in CND TRUs, why have we not seen Uruk-Hai yet??? Definitely a fun little set.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Hi!

Is there anybody who could send me one of these small bags to an unfortunate Lego fan to Hungary, EU? (unfortunately though I have friends in the UK, but I learned so late about the Sun promo and missed the opportunity to get them till they were avaiable)

Thanks in advance!
