Retiring soon list at shop.LEGO.com

Posted by ,

One of the most common questions asked in the forum is "when is set xxx being retired?" Of course none of us know the answer, although we can all speculate.

Now however, LEGO has provided a Retiring Soon filter to shop.LEGO.com at http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Back-Again. There are currently eight items in it, including 10193 Medieval Market Village.

I think the new page will be worth keeping an eye on if you want to be sure to catch particular sets before they disappear for good. (via Toys N Bricks)

Update: We've received the following clarification from LEGO about the list:

  • This is a trial for the USA and Canada to begin with to see what impact it has on Customer Service issues regarding retiring / retired products.
  • Yes the items on this list really are going to retire soon as in once the quantities we have are gone, they’re gone. They won’t be going on back order and we will not be producing anymore. This is not a sales trick, we’re legitimately trying to inform people that this is their last chance!

That's very helpful.

3677 Red Cargo Train ... already retiring soon ?
7938 and 7939 still for sale even if tagged "hard to find" (on a side note some sets are tagged like this just when they are released ...).

I can't understand why that page is titled "Back Again." It is very helpful otherwise.

Interesting to see no Maersk train on this list, even though there are multiple indicators that it too is going.. Wonder if it is not showing since it is in Sales and Deals right now...

10219 Maersk is now sold out [in Europe] so it could be the reason it's not on lists. :P

I wonder if they are doing this to push sales at RRP and get more out the door before discount time kicks in?

This page is only helpful if it is accurate by a) including only sets that are retiring and b) not excluding sets that are retiring.

I have a hunch it fails on both counts, and is a mere ploy to drive sales.

The only problem is that this 'Retiring Soon' filter seems to be only available for the US and Canada. Although I suppose it's likely that any sets retiring soon in North America will also be retiring soon in the rest of the world.

That's pretty cool of LEGO to do.

If you don't have that seaplane I suggest buying one, or three, it's a really great set and shows how you can nicely match new round slopes with an old feeling building style.

Tons of others that are retiring as well that are not on the list, such as Haunted House ( Monster Fighters ) and Fire Brigade.

I wonder when the Death Star will go. Hopefully it'll be put on sale!

I just picked up the red cargo train for $119 at TRU (using a $30 set specific coupon and a $10 off any purchase over $100 coupon). It is a gift for my son but now I am wondering if I should just save it.

Give it to your son, because it's a really fun set.

In North America - hard to find - means it's not on the normal dealer catalogs - so usually Shop@Home only and/or a few select large retailers.

^^^^^ I didn't know HH was retiring after 2 months! : ) I'd love to know where people pull this information from. I can think of 1 place.

There's no way the Haunted House can retire so soon!!

^ It is possible it could be. 10173 Holiday Train was only on sale for a couple months - Oct-Dec 2007 (even less time outside the US) - and then never again... At least according to Brickset. Now it is well sought after. I could see the Haunted House going the same way.

^ 10173 was released in '06, but the brickset database begins Oct '07.

Can we see some citation for the Haunted House being retired so soon? It sounds dubious (not that it couldn't be true, just want to see some proof).

We have year of release as 2006. It was available until December 2007. Our data regarding availability at shop.LEGO.com started in October 2007.

I have been seeing news of Monster Fighters stuff being discontinued already. What are the sources for this other than random Lego store employees? It seems like a VERY short life span for a great theme.

By in United States,

My guess is that the HH will be like the Winter Village sets, here for late August-mid October for 2013 and 2014.

I just got the Christmas catalog in the mail yesterday and Monster Fighters--including the Haunted House--were featured prominently in the book. So HH is here at least through January it would seem.
