Advent day 4

Posted by ,

Advent day 4Someone emailed yesterday to point out that the Christmas tree shown on the back of the calendar box had a fairy wand/star on the top and the contents of his day 3 bag didn't include one. The reason for the discrepancy became apparent today!

Today's bag contained the star and some steps to enable our fireman to reach the top of the tree. I'm surprised at the lack of health and safety awareness he has, though: it's not safe climbing to the top rung of the steps when there's no guard rail. If he loses his balance, he and the tree will topple...

Advent day 4Olivia is also taking risks taking her new skis and poles out onto the ice and show without protective gear, isn't she...

I believe they are the same as those we've had with collectable minifigs, aren't they? I can't find mine to check. Whatever, they look great in blue, although the poles are a bit short.

Advent day 4In the Star Wars calendar we have our second micro-model: a Star Destroyer of some sort. Again, it's a valiant effort with so few pieces.

The scores today then, are:

City -- 5, not much to it, and boring parts.
Friends -- 6, just the 4 parts but they are all good and go well with the mini-doll.
Star Wars -- 7, another decent micro-model.

I really do not like the star wars micro models in the star wars advent calender there is just no playability to them.

I am bored of my calendar already! If I wasn't such a grown up I'd open number 24 and get the Darth Santa out! ;-)

By in United Kingdom,

I quite like the mini models, although they are somewhat useless. This Star Destroyer is OK, at this scale I don't see how it could be improved, roll on Santa Maul and R2-Snow2! As for the City offering, very poor indeed. But tomorrow is bound to be better, right?

Not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed to just get a pair of skis today. Olivia already has a sled, is she bored with that already or something? But at least they're a nice color. Can't wait for tomorrow! This is my first year with an Advent Calendar so it's been very exciting!

Seems the Friends and City sets are shaping up to make some nice scenes - glad I managed to get them in Tesco today cheap :D

As to the scores...Friends is still leading, followed by SW then City, although there is only half a point between all of them!

Disappointed in City today but Star Wars was great.

Huw, have you considered posting the review of each calendar at different times of the day so that the excitement is more spread out?

I do it in the evening, I can't do it any later, I'll be in bed by your evening.

I wonder if that is meant to be an Imperial-Class Star Destroyer or an Acclamator-Class Star Destroyer. Since there appears to be no part of the ship that extends beyond the engines I would assume the former but with so little detail it's hard to tell.

EDIT: Actually it occurs to me that the Up Right Holder is probably meant to replicate the Imperial-Class's twin Deflector Shield Generator Domes and the ship has three engines instead of the Acclamator-Class's four.

Surely that guy is a forestry worker or something like that rather than a fireman? Since he's already had a chainsaw - and now a tree too?

Great pictures of all the stuff Huw! Though I was wondering if you could get a picture of the box art for the advents, that'd be great.

I know some people, like myself, love the calendars, but for all those who keep saying "the ship was bad" and "I think the models are useless", THEN WHY ON EARTH DO YOU BUY THEM?? If you want the darth Santa, wait another month, get him on eBay, and save the calendars you don't want for those who do.....

SOME MODELS ARE ON THE FRONT COVER ANYWAY, THAT SHOWS YOU IF YOU'LL LIKE THEM BEFORE YOU BUY THEM.

By in Norway,

The stairs and the star are cute addition to my growing Christmas scene.

I hope everyone's practising their build-in-the-back skills with these micro models!

Also, if you go strictly by the pictures on the box, there are going to be some disappointments along the way as they have included pictures of other sets, or multiples of things you only get one of, amongst the box art.

Yes, the Ski's are the same as the collectable figures, Nice colour too!

By the way my children are enjoying the Star Wars and the City sets, My daughter seems to be wishing she got a friends one!

Agh - typo - I meant 'build-in-the-bag'. The calendar sets are a great way to practise.
