Looking for set instructions? Look no further!

Posted by ,

I am pleased to announce that Brickset now provides direct links to instruction scans on LEGO's customer service website, thanks to Ross at Brickley's Words. Ross had to shut down his instructions portal in November due to heavy usage but has graciously provided the data to Brickset and will continue to keep it updated.

If instructions are available for a set, you'll see this green icon in the search results. When you click on it, you'll be presented with links to the PDFs on LEGO.com. There's also a list of instructions, with more details, on the set details page.

I hope you like this new feature. Happy New Year!

@legomarsfan: they are the same: Brickley's never hosted them, just provided links to them at lego.com. Are you thinking of another site?

Many thanks to the Brickset staff and Ross for bringing this back. I was quite sad when I heard Ross couldn't host the link to Lego.com any more because I find the feature invaluable. My collection is of a sufficient size now that when I find the parts to a set quite often the instructions are buried in a completely different part of the loft and it would take me hours to find them. With a PC at my Lego building desk, problem solved. This is great news and with the other site news Huw mentioned this week it bodes well for a great 2010 on Brickset!

Great addition! And a Happy new year! It seems that lego is making new elements. much like the things brickforge used to make. last year they introduced the cows, and in my opinion that was a breakthrough! now they come with ostrichs, camel, pigs, arabian helmets, and a helmet like the great helmet from brickforge! I'm pretty happy with this, because it will now be less expensive! And I think there will be some new collours too! I'm not shure about it, but if you look at some of the new sets there will be a new kind of gray(I think) a new kind of dark yellow/gold(not shure about it) and dark red and green are used more frequent! The new castle/kingdoms sets look very cool, can't wait!!!

By in Germany,

Cool! BUT, I have a MAJOR problem(which happens to all LEGO downloads): When I download something from LEGO.com in my browser, Adobe Reader opens in a new tab, the page loads, but then it stops suddenly, leaving me with a blank page! It happens here too: whenever a try to download an instruction page, same problem: blank page! I use Firefox 3.5.6 on Windows 7! Is Win 7 the problem? It never happened when Brickley's Words was around! Can someone help please?

awesome and HAPPY NEW YEAR YOU GUYS!

By in Canada,

@Alemas, I've just tried it in FF on Win7 and it works OK, but rather than opening the PDF, I saved it. Opening it did cause an error half way through downloading it. Try using a decent browser, like IE8, if it still doesn't work.

By in Germany,

@Huw: I see... *Sighs* Oh well, gotta live without instructions... If only Firefox fixes this problem! BTW, IE8 is a bit... strange here on Win 7, that's why I don't use it!

BTW, that download problem ONLY applies to LEGO.com, for some odd reason!

Thanks Huw! Happy New Year!

By in United States,

I'm afraid we will have to look more, because the instructions only date back to 2002.

By in United States,

If you're looking for older set instructions peeron.com has them, though their server is the slowest I've ever seen.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

There are links to Peeron if the instructions are not at LEGO.com on the set details pages.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Can't we have BOTH LEGO.com AND Peeron.com instructions please?

By in Netherlands,

Very good addition.
Thank you.

By in United States,

This is a great feature! Thanks. There are still some kinks, like 10198 doesn't display instructions but they are available from lego.com. I'm sure you'll fix it. Happy New Year and thanks for a great site!

Awesome. Just awesome. Thank you!

By in Ireland,

Very nice addition! I would suggest though that when one opens the set page, it would be handy to have the link to PDF, as well as the set inventory links (Peeron/Bricklink) on the right-hand column, as the latter two links were before.

Happy New Year!
Also, I share the same download problem with Alemas, but the instruction link means I don't have to link to bricklink, then to peeron, then to somewhere else. It saves a lot of trouble/sanity on my end.

By in Canada,

@Brickzone, I moved the links because there can be a lot of them, and to make them more prominent. Casual users of the site often missed them in the menu (and emailed us asking where they could download them!)

Awesome, This will come in really handy!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@absolutelylez: Brickset used that website before for instructions! It doesn't use them anymore though...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oh?! That's a pity - because they're next-to-perfect!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

@absolutelylez, unfortunately that site has been designed in a way that makes it impossible to link directly to individual set instructions. If you want to contact the site owner and see if he's willing to accomodate linking from here then please feel free to. I've one or two other things I'm working on at the moment so don't have time right now.

By in United States,

Great stuff Huw thanks! Happy New Year and this site is really the best lego site these days (well other than lego site itself since we cant really pass it up completely)!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

YES! You added the Peeron instructions even if there are instructions from LEGO.com! Thanks Huw!
