First photos from the German Toy Fair

Posted by ,

Coast guard helicopter The German Toy Fair in Nuremberg started today and as predicted, pictures have started to emerge.

Joe Meno, editor of Brickjournal, has been on the LEGO stand and is sending me photos through as I type that I will be adding to the Brickset flickr stream.

The first to arrive is one of the Coast Guard helicopter, 60013. As I said in my toy fair report, LEGO is pitching these at a young age range, so it's slightly juniorised. The new nose/cockpit piece looks very nice though. Apparently it's based on the Sea King helicopter.

If HERO Factory is your thing, R4-G9 sent me this link to an image on Twitter of Jet Rocka earlier.

If you come across any more photos out there, do let us know in the comments, and I'll update this article as I add to flickr.

Update: Fedro Photo has uploaded a few images to flickr, including of the mobile crane. (Thanks Combee)

Update: Bedtime got in the way! Joe sent more images overnight which I've added to flickr. Here are some highlights: Castle, Galaxy Squad and City airport.

Thanks -- it's a bit of an eyesore, isn't it!

Jet Rocka does not seem quite as cool as I anticipated from its appearance in the websode trailer, but that could change... I can see it has some Technic functions that could improve its appeal. Overall just a bit disappointed that it doesn't have the consistent, streamlined feel of Drop Ship from 2010. In the background I see that Stormer has some nice new shells.

That Friends dolphin cruiser also looks intense. Coast Guard helicopter doesn't look bad, and I don't mind "slightly juniorized" one bit. The lower half of its nose could be useful if it lines up well with the 3x3x2 quarter dome piece. The catamaran and speedboat down there look nice too.

Looking forward to more great surprises!

EDIT: An eyesore? Really? I think the Dolphin Cruiser's got a gorgeous and well-organized color scheme, not to mention a nice, streamlined build. Way better than any similar sets from Belville and the like.

By in United States,

Friends boat is nice besides the fact that it looks like it got stuck in a candy-floss machine. But this applies to all Friends sets I suppose...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Man I wish those Star Wars pics were bigger! Look foreword to more.....

Gravatar
By in United States,

Friends dolphin cruise looks like it can easily be modified to remove the Friends pastel colors. I think it looks good, but will modify it to be more fitting for Lex Luthor.

By in United States,

I'm liking the Coast Guard helicopter a lot. It's a larger version of the new Fire Helicopter with a brand new nose that's a good likeness of the typical Sikorsky/Westland/Eurocopter big chopper noses.
The Fire Helicopter uses the modern locomotive nose and canopy, to rather good effect, but this new nose is better.

By in United States,

It seems the Coast Guard sets will be or a more European style this time, while the earlier line was more American. Very interesting...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

As I own the 2008 version, I will most likely skip on this one. The Star Wars sets look neat and though the At Te looks similar to the last, it's going my list.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is anyone else loving the rock/beachwork in that display?
...
Oh, and the helicopter. :P

Gravatar
By in United States,

Anytime now, Huw :P

Gravatar
By in United States,

The boy minidoll is great as is the Dolphin Cruiser. Put me on the list of folks that think the color scheme is good. The windows and cockpit look clunky, but I do believe it's going to be one of my favorite Friends sets. I can't wait to see the interior details.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hmm... that new chopper doesn't look half bad. Probably won't get it, but it looks like a bit of a nice change to the standard City helicopter. Still, looking forward to the LEGO Star Wars and LotR lineup.

^^^ninjavader999: It looks really cool. :P Maybe LEGO should just sell those...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hope more pictures will be posted soon!

By in United States,

Regarding the Dolphin Cruiser-- the pink in the design seems to be the least intrusive, just a layer of plates here and there. If you we're to sub that out with some blue or even more white, I think it saves the design quite nicely. After all, every cruise ship line's paint schemes are a bit garish, right?

By in United States,

These male Friends figures definitely aren't the most masculine. I thought that was a girl the first few times I saw it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What makes a tiny plastic doll/toy masculine?

Gravatar
By in United States,

^Not looking like a one inch model of some boy band member would be a start.
But hey, it's Friends, did we expect Chuck Norris the Tween Years?

Gravatar
By in United States,

^Yes. I wonder if the fist under his beard would be all patchy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Most of us here are going to buy the boat, a girl's toy. Most of us here are adults that play with LEGOs. That's not "masculine".

So I wouldn't be making fun of successful boy bands. lol

Gravatar
By in United States,

^The way I play with LEGO is awesomely masculine, personally.
I'll boom "I'm On A Boat" while I build the Dolphin Cruiser (which looks fantastic), then add missile launchers to it.
I think a Boy Band Friends set would be a huge winner for LEGO... four boy minidolls and a set for a music video shoot, with a stretch limo in light aqua or some other rare color we want parts in. They can make the video director a woman, for the feminists.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why am I just now finding out about this LotR game!?

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I'm glad to see Coast Guard is back, and that they kept the same colour scheme as the previous ones.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I actually kinda like the Friends boy-minifig. Even his rakishly-sideways-swept hair-cut :).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is it just me, or are the 'bad guys' in the castle scheme the same as the CMF 'evil knight'?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oooh, I love the creator house!

Gravatar
By in Indonesia,

Well said, @ninjagoyo. The boy reminds me of some teen idol...(*Cough*Justin Bieber*Cough*)

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Are people on this site still going to complain that there is nothing but Police and Fire in the Town theme this year?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Coast Guard sets look to cover the same sort of vehicles as the 2008 releases. Which is fine, I'm assuming that LEGO might be putting Coast Guard into a rotation of some sort to break up the annual Police/Fire/Hospital release. But I would prefer for them to add something different perhaps a fishing boat rescue with a bigger fishing boat and a smaller coast guard boat.

Gravatar
By in United States,

zomg, dat bug!
I am going to be needing that big time! Maybe a swarm's worth!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The Galactic Titan Spaceship Part gives off a really strong 7676 Republic Attack Gunship-Vibe if you ask me :-P

Edit: The linked Article from the German Newspaper says that 2012 was the financially most succesful Year in Lego-History, but, at least for the German Market, this was not due to a rising Number of Sales, which were slightly declining / stable, it was because of higher Prices on the sets X_x

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looking forward to a few of those. I know my son will want most of the coast guard and that galaxy squad tank/ shuttle.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

I got I am in trouble, because I need it AAAALL! but I should choose - then the family house is the right thing to get and then something from the cargo airport.

I also wast the green streetsweeper in the back there

Funny thing is that a very nice cargo truck http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=7733-1 was completetly recycled including the color code.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

The green technic towtruck looks amazing!

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

The cargo helicopter is the best. For now.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I am liking the new city sets a lot! Anyone else notice the new ear protection that the cargo handles are wearing?
I am in love with the heli-plane!!!!
@darthbrickus yes that was my first thought also, very gunshipish.

Gravatar
By in France,

Yeeeey!!! Finally planes back again to the City!! That means, next year a new airport!!! :D I will run for those ones!! :D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Chuck Norris, the Tween Years... now THAT is a Cuusoo I'd vote for!! :oD

I'm liking the new Cargo Plane... they've lowered the wings, so the wingspar doesn't intrude into the cargo area, unlike 7734 where the mid-fuselage wing left a huge dead area. I also note there's only 4 studs before the first door... and there's 2 studs on the cockpit piece, so looks like a new part might be there.

Definitely getting a couple of 60020 Cargo Truck. 14-stud cargo space like the trailer on 7733.

Not impressed by the 6-stud heli-cockpit, though. Needed to be 8-studs wide.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Gah, so many awesome sets this summer. Loving all these City sets. Those earmuffs for the airport sets! Wonder if that's a separate piece that fits over a regular cap or if it's one solid cap/earmuff combo.

By the way, I can't help but think the WHITE SHARK and the catamaran sailboat in the helicopter set is a nod to the movie Jaws 2. It certainly looks eerily familiar.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The city sets look great!! I can't wait for the creator house! Will be a definite addition to my neighbourhood I'm creating.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I like the lego city 60011, 60012, 60020 and 60022

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

OMG that mobile crane is so awesome think its my must have set of the year :))

Gravatar
By in United States,

Has anyone spotted pics of the new star wars sets?

Gravatar
By in United States,

That tiltrotor is amazing! A must have for sure!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

With all these new, useful pieces, building realistic models with LEGO is getting way too easy. :P

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nice sets!Definitely going to try to get that Coast Guard helicopter and cargo plane.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the new City sets, the helicopter plane is very cool.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's about time we got another proper Creator House after the last 3 releases. Will be bought on site.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@The Green Brick Giant
If you compare 60013 to pictures of British Coast Guard helicopters, specifically the Sea King as Huw mentioned in the original article, there's a great deal of resemblance particularly in the cockpit area: the rounded nose and the additional windows below the main row on the sides, for instance. Similarly, if you compare 7738 to pictures of American Coast Guard helicopters, the nose and cockpit design also have a degree of resemblance.
I was partly mistaken, though, as the ship in 7739 has the hull coloration of a British Coast Guard ship while the hull featured in 60014 is distinctly American. I personally think it's cool that in both lines they've had a British-influenced set and an American-influenced set, and switched which set was which from year to year.

Gravatar
By in Mexico,

just to point out how much i've always loved the way germans prepare their Lego Dioramas for Nuremberg's toy fair, it's a very detailed work that no other toy fair takes care of prepare, thumbs up!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Kings' Castle is a disappointment, probably end up getting one of the smaller Coast Guard sets since I never got any of the originals, and Galaxy Squad looks epic.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Do you know what the price is going to be for the Galaxy Squad set? It looks awesome, I hope I'll be able to get it.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

the star wars set: "jek-14 stealth fighter" is a black E-wing starfighter! why have they to produce such an interesting model in a strange and non-canonical version?? I have dreamt of a lego E-wing since the first time i saw it on a star wars comic. I found that disappointing...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Are those battle Droids in the at-te set a new color ?

Gravatar
By in United States,

80UK Pounds normally equals $100 doesn't it? The sets over there cost 17% more automatically because of European taxes, or is that just in the EU countries?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The 2012 Garage was 80 in the UK, and $120 in the US, that's what I was basing on, TGBG.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I REALLY want that Cargo Osprey.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I think the new galaxy squad and city airport sets are awesome! I'll have to say I'm disappointed with the coast guard and castle though. The new castle doesn't seem to meet the standards that all the other ones set, and it looks a bit cheesy. Maybe my expectations were to high...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Rancorbait, the battle droids are Geonosian versions so they are reddish brown.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Bit disappointed with the AT-TE. After having just bought 7675, this new one is virtually the same. Brilliant - another £80 I don't need to spend this summer.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Loving the modern house and the castle. Also, a helicopter log transporter!? WAT

Gravatar
By in United States,

new...chima... newww... chiimmmaaaaaaa.....

Gravatar
By in Australia,

so i finally looked at this photo stream..sigh. in a good way. how the heck can i afford all that!!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hmmm, new carpet for the living-room or Lego? Meh, we're in a flood zone, water won't damage the Lego, why chance ruining a brand new carpet! I love them all!

Gravatar
By in United States,

thank you brickset for being absolutely terrible with the german toy fair coverage

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

No news for Star Wars and The Lord of the rings products on German Toy Fair?

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

What do you mean?

I think I read somewhere here last week that one of the mods go to the Toy Fair, but from this "report" it seems nobody as there from here, they just collected the pics from other fellow sites or writers.
There aren't any problem with that I just a little disappointed, that I have to run through all the comments everywhere on the web's lego forums about Toy Fair to find any new pictures of it. (not to mention that these first pics are kind of blurry, myself I was able to see the new sets in full details just from those spieletest.at pictures that Aanchir showed us.

Hope, there still could be a little more detailed report of the toy fair. (or there will be another big Lego event any soon that could be more details or more sets revealed?)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@steevaroo, you're welcome...

I didn't go so, yes, I am reliant on others. We did bring you the first photos from the fair, you will recall, thanks to Joe Meno, who was there.
