German toy fair wrap-up

Posted by ,

The German toy fair has ended and over the weekend more picture galleries have appeared on the web.

Joe Meno, who provided us with the first set of photos to be published, has uploaded more to his flickr stream. (thanks R4-G9)

Austrian site Spieletest.at has published videos and photos, including some of sets that we haven't seen before, and which were not shown at the London toy fair, such as this Grand Prix truck, 60025. (thanks Aanchir)

Take a look through the galleries and let us know what catches you eye.

The New York toy fair starts on Sunday, February 10th. Expect loads more pictures then...

By in Australia,

The new castle line looks good, but what happened to all of the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings? I was hoping to get a look at the new Republic Gunship.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I love the Chima lion's fortress. Also, the trees in the background of most of the Castle and Chima sets are gorgeous, why can't we have any of those? :)

By in United States,

Liking the Grand Prix truck a lot. Reminds me of Indy Transport (6335-1). Purchase pending reviews.

By in Australia,

I don't care what the whiny "fans" of Castle say, I think the new Castle sets look really neat. I love the bright colors and the new dragon head crest.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

That's what I'm talking about, thanks for the fast picture collection response Huw!
(any more could emerge, don't hesitatie to show us!)

How come none of the boxes were photographed yet- excluding the Castle.
Some of the pictures clearly showed that there were lots of boxes on the fair.

How about Galaxy Squad sets, Hardly oneor two sets shown on in the galleries?
I still don't know if it is a theme that will be available from now soon, or just in the second half year, from summer?
(If I am not mistaken, some of my small country's lego shops already has 4-5 Galaxy Squad sets for sale)

By in United States,

No LotR yet :(
I don't want to wait for the 10th.

By in Switzerland,

Interesting new take on the Duplo train sets. I like it, it's more modern and probably more coherent in design with trains today.

I wondered recently how well Lego's train systems have been performing. Boys love trains, but with the decline in model railway enthusiasts and The March of Technology, I wonder how much decline in interest there is.

Perhaps it's more pronounced in the regular lego sets. I don't know.

Perhaps this new Duplo range of trains is to combat disinterest.

By in United States,

Love that Joe Meno got high-quality pics of the new Hero Factory and Chima sets. Those get me very excited. The Friends sets are also packed with incredible detail, as usual, though I doubt I'll be collecting those-- Ninjago and Hero Factory are my main priorities again this year, with maybe a bit of Chima thrown in for good measure.

By in United Kingdom,

Aww, still waiting for a peek at Jabba's Sailbarge. I guess if it's not out till August there's no rush!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

No Star Wars? Or LOTR???

And yet there is a Yoda statue?

Ah well, I can use my imagination. (Actually, no - I need to see that Orthanc set!) :D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Joe mentioned he wasn't allowed to photograph Super Heroes and Lone Ranger, maybe SW and LOTR had the same restriction.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Surprised there isn't a $7-10 stand-alone F1 car to complement the truck with a different color/number. It would sell fine on its own and provide competition for the Octan car. What good is a race car without an opponent?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love seeing the new sets, but Joe Meno really needs to get a better-focusing camera.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

20025 is a set I really want, I saw it on a tiny picture on "i brick city" and, um, really wanted it. I think I still do, depends on price.

The new Cargo truck looks nice, but at £25 really quite expensive. Shame. The stunt plane and "cargo flying thing" look attractive...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Cargo Truck looks like the previous 7733....not very imaginative that.

By in Austria,

Dear community. We were not allowed to show you the videos of LOTR and Star Wars. We have some embargo dates for these videos. These are:

LOTR / Star Wars (Joda's Chronicals): Easter 2013
Marvel / DC Universe: April/May
Friends Dolphin Yacht: May (as far as it seems to us we may publish the vid earlier - we are already discussing that with lego.

Best wishes from the spieletest team.

By in United States,

I'm just saying this now. Gorzans Gorilla Striker is going be one of the most popular Chima sets to come out this year

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^ Thanks for clarifying that. It will be interesting to see what happens at the NY toy fair, then...

Gravatar
By in United States,

If you guys weren't so busy whining about the cargo truck, you might have noticed the new set of tools, and that it's in two of the new sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

For the people who know what the new Darth Maul will look like, Does Maul have new special robot legs or regular minifigure legs?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

That Cargo Heliplane looks awesome, so does the Grand Prix Truck and the monster transporter! I want to make a grave digger now :P

By in Canada,

As Huw I believe noted previously, I'm Not a fan of the Juniorization of some of the city sets - Especially 60023 & 60027. The F1 truck is kind of juniorized as well. However, I like the cargo truck and the new minifig ear protection! Also the new tools are exciting. Helicopter looks great as well!

By in United States,

Sets look a lot nicer than the current stuff, nice job Lego!

Love the City sets, Chima Foxes look nice, the medium blue and dark blue Galaxy Squad set is beautiful, however why call it Galaxy Squad when it takes place on the Moon and not in the galaxy?

Gravatar
By in United States,

NOTE TO TLG: When you do the official box art for the Friends' Yacht, MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT stick purple bows into the holes on top of the dolphins' heads... THOSE ARE THEIR BREATHING-HOLES!!

Suffocating an endangered species for the sake of fashion?! Gonna hafta give that a frowny face... =(

By in United States,

Looking forward to the new City sets. They all look good to me. And the new Creator house, too.

By in United States,

@suckerpunch83: 60023 is specifically aimed at beginners to the LEGO City theme, so some simplicity is expected (but I wouldn't call it "juniorized", since that's a term I associate with overuse of specialized pieces, and 60023 seems to use the same sort of parts selection as any set would). Meanwhile, I see nothing juniorized at all about 60027, and the only thing remotely juniorized about 60025 is the nose of the F1 race car.

By in United States,

@ the_real_indy: Maybe they can breathe 'through' the bows -- a Bow-Beathing Apparatus :-D
------------------------------

The set name is actually "Dolphin Cruiser" and for more matching of names to images of Friends, see: http://heartlaketimes.blogspot.com/

That way you'll know which one your daughter is talking about wanting ;-)
{Or, you wife, or sister, or perhaps even your own Friend'ly side.}

We've labelled the Series 3 Animals too! I think the green parrot will be a fine addition :-)

By in United States,

OK, this is driving me nuts – what does the set 60026 Town Square include?

Can we expect buildings? Is it similar to a previously issued set, or are there new businesses and vehicles to expect?

Basically, we've had three "town square" type sets in the U.S. – Main Street (from 1980, included a car dealership and an under-construction hotel, plus a pickup truck and a convertible), the Town Plan (from 2007, a movie theater, 50s-style gas station and a courthouse, plus a 1950s-style car and a gas truck) and City Corner (2009, which included a pizzeria and bicycle shop, along with a bus).

I'm presuming this is something way different, with new props, vehicles and "businesses," right?

Thanks.

By in United States,

I recently went to my local Lego retailer (not a brand store) and the manager was nice enough to let me see the 2013 product catalogue, which contained pictures of all 2013 summer sets. I definitely agree with Huws summary of the sets: the Super Heroes are kind of boring and the galaxy squad sets are ok. The SW sets are great. The spider droid is very interisting, and Adi Gailla looks like Quinlan Vos (the picture was hard to see and had a watermark). The Mandalorian speeder looks like it's Clone Wars counterpart, but it is not a great set. Sorry if you feel this was unneeded, but now that I saw them, I decided I'd add to Huws great summary of the toy fair.
Thanks,
Legos

@ Darth_Maul_Epic

Yes, maul has robotic legs, but as I said^, I couldn't get a good view. I may be wrong, so please correct me if I am. Thanks,
Legos
