LEGO Mondrian by NonoLeRobot

Posted by ,

Though far from the most popular subject, Cuusoo has a fair number of projects dedicated to the concept of being art by recreating art.

The most famous of these, in LEGO circles at least, is probably the small YELLOW project.

One of my favorite Cuusoo art projects though is the overlooked LEGO Mondrian, which uses the LEGO medium to expand the subject instead of just recreating it.

To be totally honest, I don't know that much about Mondrian so I am not going to try to pretend that I do. Here is a link if you want to know more about him.

Even though I don't know him, I am familiar with his very distinct work which is reminiscent of the image on the left.

What NonoLeRobot has done here is create a LEGO structure that is a Mondrian themed image in a top down perspective, and a Frank Lloyd Wright style structure from another.

Is this brief article going to start a swarm of supporters to flood LEGO Mondrian. I seriously doubt it. But this project is not only amazingly original, but it literally heightens the medium of LEGO artistically and it deserves recognition if not, production.

Now, who is going to do a landscape that looks like the Mona Lisa from above?

My favorite new project this week was, of course, the Adventures of Steamrod. Other honorable mentions include the Pirahna Gunship, Metroid, and Sepsymp's Arena Beasts.

My review of these projects and a showcase of all the projects that came out in the last week can be found here.

Art...I just don't get how some things are considered art.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. If only it stood a chance of making 10k votes. Although, the idea is not so hard to reproduce out of my own pile of bricks. Think I'll give it a go.

Very imaginative. I'm not into art normally but this is just brilliant.
They say that the only original thing in art is the idea, and this idea certaintly is original

You made mention of it, but have you made a review of small YELLOW? I didn't even know of it until you mentioned it in this article.

@MorkMan,

I showcase one project a week.

I have not showcased Small Yellow yet because, being a Lego Celebrity, and apparently being attached to the project, Sawaya could pretty much make this happen whenever he wants to.

He has a soapbox to use if he want and has the influence to have others use their soapboxes as well.

So, as I said, I showcase one project a week, I don't always do it but I try to avoid the ones that MOST people know about and go for the lesser known stuff that more people don't. I have no shame "name dropping" other projects while showcasing another.

As you see though, it works. It got you there, but I got to show people the Mondrian.

@SI Builder, Always good to have feedback, thanks.
