By in United Kingdom,

So £2 worth of papers and £3 worth of stamps and envelopes for 5 unspecified polybags; prolly the same ones as last time. No thanks. Think I'll pass.

Although I was a rabid 'Scum Lego offer' user before, this time... PASS.

By in United Kingdom,

I'm gonna use my address and my next door neighbours see which different ones I get.

Defo not as good as the last offer it seems like they got loads left from other offers and want to get rid of them.

By in United Kingdom,

As long as the other standard offers are retained for later in the year this is acceptable. However I am left unimpressed by this and while I will probably take them up on the offer, I hope this is just to clear a backlog of polybags rather than a permanent feature.

I am so envious of you guys in the U.K. getting promotions like this, repeatedly! I don't think we've ever had anything like that in the U.S. Not in recent years, anyway.

By in United Kingdom,

Is the paper still 30p ?

If so,

Papers £1.50
Return Postage £2.20
C3 envelope £0.50 (?)
Stamp to send the offer in £0.60 (or £0.50 for second class).

= £4.80 for 5 random poly bags, and entry into the competition for bigger sets.

Bit steep, but that's all Royal Mail. The Lego itself is "free".

Even so, I will still be taking part just to see what I get (doh).

I wonder what polybags they are going to give out.I hope new or rare ones.

Gladeye,
I believe polies are available from stores in the US. You go into TRU or wherever and just buy them. They're mostly not for sale in the UK, not even from TLG's own stores. So the newspaper promos are the only chance to get them at a reasonable price for most UKAFOLs. Not so for many USAFOLs.

Can't decide if its worth giving it a go or not. I have all the polys from the last two offers. Might just do one set

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

In the photo on the sun website, it shows some of the old promo sets from the previous few giveaways! Just clearing old stock!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

not bothering with this.
I usually get a few of each of these for myself for the pieces for MOCs or to help out friends who can't get them.
I will wait till the better promotions are on later this year rather than this lucky dip.

One word....Pants!

By in France,

The funny thing is the send in offer is usually better when the regular promotion is on. You don't need to pay return postage then.

By in Europe,

Wonder what the big prizes are?... :/ intresting £150 set. Any ideas on what that could be.?

By in United States,

Here's an opinion from a guy in the US...

If this is intended to clear inventory and the AFOL market doesn't use the promotion and the inventory doesn't get cleared you may end up getting this promotion again at the end of the year instead of the usual promotion.

I'll be getting a set, be quite exciting to see what you get, probably a load of Ninjago sets knowing my luck. I'm just tempted to see how it works.

To be honest in the future I'd rather get a complete set delivered to my door than the faff I went to, to make sure I got all 8 of the last models. Driving to TRU 6 miles away twice, getting parents to drive to Smiths 4 miles away, leaving work to get them during the week at Smiths.

Just buy a paper from any shop and send off the tokens.

Admittedly its no longer cost effective to buy 100 papers, but I can't really say its a bad thing

By in France,

@jockosjungle - You could have just bought the paper from any shop and sent the tokens off last time. And then, they paid return postage.

@Bustin - I doubt they will reuse these sets again in a promo later in the year, replacing the new sets they have done in the past. The reason for doing these promotions is (not surprising) advertising and paper sales. Lego wants to advertise new sets and get kids wanting to have new sets. One of of doing this is to give them a character (eg Lone Ranger) from a new set. They then want more. The Sun likes it as it boost their circulation for a week. If they happen to measure paper sales that week, it will be massively increased if they are offering good polys. That is useful when they come to sell advertising, since they can say the total circulation (measured on to ) was X million. Advertisers will pay more if they think their adverts are reaching more people.

£3.70 (i'll recycle a jiffy bag, i usually do) for 5 random poly's - ah go on then. Yes, you might get city sets or something BUT you could get Avengers, POTC, Coffin cars, SW or all sorts of interesting bits and bobs. Lets be honest here, if you walked into WH Smiths or TRU and they were offering polybags at 80p-£1 each you'd have a look wouldn't you? I would, random or not. And the mention of prizes between £19 - £150, well there could be some nice offerings in there too.

In fact why am I trying to encourage people? Don't do this promo! Leave the prizes to me, OK? ;)

By in United Kingdom,

@CCC - yes you could send tokens to the Sun's customer service address and they would send you a poly BUT it wasn't advertised as an option, supposedly you could only get them one at a time and not a set and it was subject to any stock left over. Now to be fair, every time I did it I got the bag and yes, they paid the postage back, but I personally don't mind a couple of quid in postage to get a full set of the polys if i've collected the tokens anyway. The Mirror always had this as an option and it worked for me because of working hours and proximity to a WHS or TRU. Just wish the Sun would follow suit.

By in Denmark,

You british are still quite privileged to get the polybags, so please stop whining... :-)

£5 for 5 polybags? We Danes just paid £ 3.5 a single polybag in Netto. It's some of the first polybags available in a long time here.

Gravatar
By in France,

$4.50 here in Indonesia for one...

Gravatar
By in France,

@ Delatron - you will not get a full set this time. They are giving five random ones, so they cannot be a full set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@CCC - yes i know, that's not what i was saying. What i was pointing out was that I wouldn't mind if for FUTURE promos they reverted back to the same set-up as the Mirror used to offer. You had the option to collect the tokens all week and send them with a postage fee and get a full set sent to you OR pass in your tokens at the shop like they do now with the Sun promo.

My response to you was based on you telling Jockosjungle that he could have sent off the tokens and got his postage paid by return during the last offer, which was not entirely accurate. As I posted, you could do this on a bag by bag basis but not for a full set and it wasn't advertised as an option to do so, it was discovered by some people getting onto customer services at the Sun and then I believe, posting here on Brickset.

Sorry, long-winded response ;)

By in United States,

Ok, £5 for 5 polybags? Its $5 EACH at most US stores!!

Gravatar
By in Japan,

Any clue why the first day you can collect the required number of tokens (five) is today but the form you have to complete isn't published until tomorrow? My sardonic guess is that the people at the Sun can't count to five, but there may be a real reason. Any idea?

@Greenlanternjordan, The Sun is the most read 'newspaper' in the UK. Many would assert that it isn't a newspaper as it doesn't contain any news. It's basically celebrity and sports 'news' with some adult only content.

By in United Kingdom,

the sun is a newspaper here in the uk

By in United Kingdom,

@Zander

Token 1 Saturday
Token 2 Sunday
Token 3 Monday
Token 4 Tuesday
Token 5 and application form Wednesday (27th).

I think they can count ?

By in United Kingdom,

Mine have arrived today and they've sent me:

30130 POTC Mini Black Pearl,
30090 Pharaoh's Quest Desert Glider,
30014 City Police Helicopter,
30056 Star Wars Star Destroyer and
30085 Ninjago Jumping Snakes.

I've had them all already :/ but this was the risk we've taken! I love the plane and those snakes so not too upset, and I'm hoping to swap some of the others. 3 figures out of the five sets though.

What's everyone else had?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not received mine yet. Really hope they arrive.

Id love to get The pharoahs quest stuff as I missed out on that. Ive a hawkeye and some city and creator sets id swap. Plus whatever I get sent.

Looking forward to it.
