Bilbo Baggins minifig from The Hobbit DVD/Blu-Ray

Posted by ,

Bilbo Baggins Bilbo BagginsThe Hobbit was released in DVD/Blu-Ray in the USA this week and in Target you can pick it up with an exclusive Bilbo Baggins minifig.

Brickset member nyk has sent us these great photos of him.

I haven't yet found out which retailers in the UK and other European countries will be offering it when it's released here on 8th April. Do you know?

By in Netherlands,

I hope they will release it in Europe somewhere! I got one on Ebay in the US for a decent price just to make sure I get one if they dont ;)

I got this guy yesterday too. I love the printing on his vest and scarf. We didn't get to see Bilbo in this outfit though during the film. However, we did see him with it in one of the trailers while he was walking through Hobbiton so hopefully we'll see him like this on screen in the Extended Edition which comes just in time for Christmas!

This version of the film also comes with a special LEGO The Hobbit Documentary. It's a lot like an extended designer video. We get to see how they made the Goblin King piece, the dwarf and goblin minifigs, and more. They also showed us that sketch model of Bag End.

One question Huw, this guy won't be added to the database since there was no item # correct?

I am one for collectible minifigs so I think I will have to get this. Seeing that on iTunes it is 20$, it's worth spending 5 more bucks

I definitely don't want to pay $25 for this, but, maybe I should try and snag it off of eBay…

^^^ I'm waiting to see what BrickLink does: I don't think it's appropriate to add The Hobbit DVD/Blu-ray as an item to the database because it's not LEGO related, so I'll probably add a 'set' which has the same number that BrickLink gives the fig.

I wonder if I can get him on Bricklink without the movie for a decent price..
Oh, and thank you nyk for the photos!

The online shop says it's $25 but most Targets sell it in-store for $30. I 'got lucky' and found it for only $22 at my local Target though.

Gotta say that's a clever way for LEGO to potentially ensnare some new AFOLs. Give 'em a sweet-looking minifigure and some bonus features showing off their Hobbit sets, and bam, they're hooked.

That said, I do hate that LEGO keeps doing all these exclusive minifigures.. This one will undoubtedly be very expensive on Bricklink given how much you'll have to pay to get ahold of it.

Damn you, World! :oS

What irks me, is I know i WILL be buying the film at some point, but as a film fan I also know to never bother with initial theatrical releases, as they almost ALWAYS issue extended/special/extra editions a little later, with everything that the theatrical release has and more. But as a Lego fan too, I feel reeeeally vexed that it is my love of lego, of all things, that is working against me to promote the purchase of a somewhat redundant film release. Booooo! LOL :oP

I Hope they'll package Bilbo in the extended versions too... OR make him available some other way, like TLG does with all its so called 'exclusive' items. I'm not sure TLG knows what 'exclusive' means anymore :o)

@Telcontar - When I purchased it yesterday, the cashier that rang it up seemed surprised, because it had been ringing up at $30 earlier in the day. Apparently they fixed the problem (maybe company wide?) and it rang up for me at $22, which is the price it is supposed to be in store and on sale.

Had to get him.

For the sake of completion I will have to have one, but the Minifigure itself looks a bit dull if you ask me.

My father is a big LOTR fan from the 70s, called a few weeks back to ask if he was getting the DVD and if he was could he get it at Target and send me the Bilbo. Got a call the other afternoon and it's on it's way from Florida back to NYC =-) I don't think my father has bought me Lego in over 20 years!

I went through this 15 years ago with Mattel (Hot wheels). I personally am getting tired of shelling out hard earned money during hard times for every set, DVD, book,etc.... just to get a special mini figure.
