New style of minifig magnet found on eBay

Posted by ,

It seems LEGO is now selling minifig magnets singly in a fancy new blister pack. I haven't seen them before, or heard them mentioned, but eBay seller peterrut has several listed, including Iron Man, Batman and Boba Fett.

Presumably they are in the brand stores now. Have you seen them?

Thanks to bushellhimself2012 for the news.

By in United Kingdom,

Does this mean that the magnet is in the Minifigure itself or is it the same just with different packaging and coming in single packs rather than triple?

Either way it does look very 'fancy' and rather nice if you ask me, all except for the price that is.

I have just noticed what a busy couple of days it has been for news, DrDave's excellent review of the Lone Ranger Stagecoach Escape has already dropped off the bottom of the homepage!

I just got back from LEGOland Billund - there are between twenty and thirty of these including SW, LotR and Super Heroes on the shelves there.

Just been to the Discovery Centre in Manchester where these were on sale for both the LOTR and Star Wars ranges. I think the magnet is a two piece affair with a magnetic back plate which is circular and matches the plastic carton whilst the figure is a glued assembly with a small magnet fixed to the rear. This was all based on what I could see through the packaging so apologies if this isn't the actual make up of these items.

^^ 20-30! I think I'll wait until they are listed at shop.LEGO.com before putting them in the database, then they'll be added automatically.

Does anybody have a list of all the ones that are available?

There are a lot of them, for various themes, in the retail stores...or at least the one at Tyson's Corner VA, the one I go to.

They were out of the packets on one display at LEGOland Billund. The figures are firmly attached via a coupling on their back to the picture disk which is the magnet. Though they revolve they do not detach (I pulled as hard as I could justify in a LEGO shop!). They are pretty cool and I will probably buy some as I prefer the look of these to the old brick magnets. Bit pricey mind you at 60DKK each (about 6 quid).

The Super Heroes I noted were Batman, Superman, Spiderman and Ironman.
Also we definitely saw SW's: EP4 Luke, Leia, Han, Chewy, Yoda, Boba Fett, Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper.
LotR I only noticed Bilbo and Sam (sorry wasn't paying much attention to them).

BTW the disk magnet was pretty darn strong - I foresee no problems with them holding anything up, unlike the old brick magnets!

Was told to me that it was a trial run and only available in limited LEGO retail stores. Will not be available online for a while.

Also, heard the designs were changed because Lucasfilm could not categorize the previous sw lego magnets as action figures and this was negatively impacting numbers? I have no idea if this is true.
