Shop.LEGO.com offers for May

Posted by ,

April's shop.LEGO.com offers are a bit lack-lustre, aren't they, but thankfully that's not the case for May. As reported last week, the May the forth offer will be Han Solo in Hoth garb, and he'll be free with purchases of Star Wars items over £75 (or £50 I suspect). Then later in the month, set 30167-1 Iron Man vs. Fighting Drone is free with purchases over $50.

Thanks to Michael B for the news and image.

Really is that the best they can come up with!! Han solo figure is cool but the iron man??? Last year we got an exclusive hulk!!!! Surely if they wanted to do a figure to tie in with iron man 3 then an exclusive iron patriot or one of his other new armours would have been more appropriate?? Maybe they could have even done an exclusive man of steel figure: a russell crowe jor el perhaps! It just seems a bit weak to give away such an already common minifigure that you need not spend £50 to get for free because he has already appeared in a much cheaper set with better features. My advice would be to steer clear of this "exclusive" and just (if you havent already) buy the smaller set or buy him seperatley. I guarantee you that you will find the figure cheaper than the price to get him free.

I am a bit disappointed with the Iron Man exclusive, in accordance with the above comment I was hoping for an Iron Patriot Minifigure. However, this is better than nothing I suppose and the Hoth Han Solo Minifigure looks great, even though it could have been something much better (and shinier).

Im betting it will be $100 spend in Australia again for the SW promotion.
Here's hoping that they offer free shipping, otherwise its $35.....so might as well go to eBay or Bricklink.

^ to true, im waiting to see what our mark up on the new ucs xwing is going to be, lets hope its not $150 more than the us like the bwing is. Just unreal that its nearly double the price than the us at $200 yet the dollar is near equal.

Anyhow yeah if its even remotelly like that ill just order it from overseas or ebay and still save myself hundreds.

I can't say I'm impressed with Iron an freebie as I already own last years set which included as well as hoping to buy this years lot.

Han Solo looks pretty cool although its a shame that they couldn't include more in the pipeline. If anything decent Sar Wars wise is reduced I will consider the freebie.

To be honest though, I can't say Lego's attest freebies are as good as they once were and I'm finding this months very disappointing so far.

Am I the only person who can't understand the Han in Hoth Gear minifigure? As I recall, his coat was blue. Something which has already been represented in LEGO Hoth sets gone by. Are LEGO and Star Wars INC so desperate to eek every last penny (i know it's free, but you still have to spend a heck of a lot to get one) out of sucker collectors with disposable incomes that they're now just making things up? Santa Darth Mauls I can understand... those aren't meant to represent anything from the fictional world of Star Wars but what's next? Princess Leia in BLACK LEATHER slave girl bikini outfit?! Technically speaking, if they produce this figure with a brown coat, it ain't Han. Han shot first and Han wore blue!

I should imagine a Princess Leia minifigure in BLACK LEATHER slave girl bikini outfit would get an almost unanimous vote of appreciation.

I've been planning to get the new LotR sets ever since they were discovered so hopefully they'll come out in May like last year. That way I can get them and an Iron Man minifig (I don't have one of him yet (shame)).

The Han Solo polybag is a nice figure, if a little bland, but free with a spend of £50 is not a bad deal as it will surely be going for at least half that in the aftermarket, so should make a good investment to anyone's polybag collection!

The debate about what colour the Han Hoth coat is has been raging since the POTF2 figure in 1996ish when they first did a brown one!  Lucasfilm insist it's brown whereas every photo and figure till then says blue.

Since then Hasbro Han Hoths have generally existed as both versions.  The most recent one I remember came in both blue and brown plus hood up and hood down variants.

So yeah I can understand this existing.

Since Iron Man poly is nothing special hopefully it'll end up in retailers…

I for one am looking forward to the Iron Man polybag. I never got the triangle reactor suit when it first came out because it just wasn't worth $20 to me and there was nothing else good in that set. Now I'll be able to pick it up and expand my hall of armors for free!

Iron Patriot might be with the Lego Marvel Super Heroes Game

Ok, I had always thought Han's parka was blue, but after doing some research it was in fact brown. The snow and ice plus the lighting in Norway made the parka look more navy blue.

It looks like LEGO did a pretty accurate rendition of Han with this minifigure. I think I may have to make a $75 purchase next month.

The new Han looks pretty good and detailed and is exclusive, but I would prefer a different minifigure. What about an Ahsoka minifigure in slave outfit? :)

Am I the only one who is happy with the Iron Man polybag? (Probably 'cause I don't own Iron Man yet... :D)

First glance left me a feeling of being underwhelmed by these, but the Han fig is nice after a more considered look. I guess it will come down to whether free international shipping is included like last year. I also managed to get the TC-13 with buying the MMV only - could I be so lucky this year?

@BishBrick - check the comments on from a day or two ago when this was first revealed with a less clear photo, there are a few pretty comprehensive explanations (alongside me getting it wrong!). @payres above is spot on, his coat is actually brown, but looks blue in most of the shots from the film, so which colour should the action figures be? Let the confusion commence! :)

What about some actual DEALS on some sets? I bought the Super Star Destroyer last year on May 4th because it was 20% off! I havent been out of the Dark Ages for that long, so are those sales more something thats announced last minute?

I'm sure I can find something for $50 in order to get the free IM minifig. I don't have the triangular variation yet.

Both look good. I love the masked face on Han, and I was planning on buying the Spiderman Daily Bugle set($49.99, but I'll probably buy a CMF and hope for a Mr. Gold if my local Lego store employees go by the book), so getting the Iron Man(Mark VI right?) polybag will be nice. Just not sure what I want to buy to get the Han. I want the Battle of Hoth set, but it's only $49.99. I want to get the Home One set, so I don't want the A-Wing. Maybe I'll just buy Palpatine's Arrest and hope for a nice discount on it.

@zipsforbananas It's easy these days to Google and find lots of behind the scenes stills and photos from The Empire Strikes Back, which do indeed show Han's coat in the cold light of day (pun intended) to be brown. LEGO (and Kenner/Hasbro along with numerous others) originally portrayed this coat as blue... because every scene it appears in during the film shows it as such. My original point still has merit in that; Yes, there are plenty of people out there who will already be planning on spending $75/£50+ on LEGO anyway, but there will also be a large number of LEGO fans, many of them youngsters (without the disposable income) who will feel that consumerist pressure to "catch them all" and end up spending the cash they should be spending elsewhere just to own a minifigure that misrepresents what is on film and already established in popular culture.

I am of course ranting, but I do find it depressing that generally, the quest for minifigure bragging rights glory is (slightly) damaging the creative input/output of LEGO. Why bother producing really fantastic sets when you can just stick a Nova and Dr Doom figure in there and everyone will go for it anyway. The idiotic gold Series 10 figure is also a case in point.

I love the Han Solo in Hoth garb minifig!

If that Iron Man were to have been the Iron Man from 6869, I might of considered this promotion. I don't have any interest since it's the suit from 6867.

By in United Kingdom,

@BishBricks, very fair points. I didn't read your post well enough, which given the size of my reply is a bit ironic!
I would say though, producing a new minifigure of any kind would add to the number to collect if you've been infected by the PokeWars bug, and there are literally hundreds of Star Wars figures already so one more can't hurt that much, especially when some of them are made of gold and bronze!
Personally, after the disappointment of it being just the one not especially dazzling figure I'm quite pleased to see a light hearted nod to the actual debate rather than something purely fictional like Santa Maul.

And ranting's fine, especially when you make it witty. I don't do much else on Facebook at the mo! Can I add the price of the Rancor Pit to your evidence? Essentially £20/25 for the Rancor!

I want this iron man set but I was gonna buy lego minecraft micro world but thats 35$ and I already have that Iron man and I prefer my 2013 version I just want the drone. I also like that han but I don't have 75$ and I wasn't even gonna buy a starwars set. If anyone who was gonna keep the Iron man but hates the drone wanna make a deal?

By in United States,

Hey guys, I'm rather new to these promotions but do you know if when making a Lego Star Wars purchase, is it supposed to be one set over $75 or could it be several sets that the total equals out to being over $75?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think its several once I bought several sets at toys r us and still got the promotion

Gravatar

Hmm. Pretty lackluster indeed. Throw in some free shipping, too, at least.

@zipsforbananas Yes... you know that bit in Return of the Jedi... when Jabba bashes the button next to his throne, Luke has just fallen into the pit, then the dramatic music starts, just as a huge gate begins to lift, we see some teeth - huge and pointy - and tiny, bright eyes scowling? We then get 3-PO exclaiming with fear and dread... "Oh no! The Rancor". That's the voice I get in my head every time I look at the price of that damn Rancor Pit set!

It is one of the best illustrations of my point regarding the minifigure and it's dominance of LEGO design, sales, purchasing and collecting. There was a time when LEGO was all about the sets, but I guess it was the licenses that changed that and then the CMFs.

Just seen the first Han Solo poly on ebay alittle way off May the 4th and the seller seems to suggest they have more than 1 from the description £11.51 and 15 hrs to go, thought May the 4th was a worldwide event so how do they get out early and often in numbers.
