Iron Patriot minifig with pre-orders of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes at WalMart

Posted by ,

Iron PatriotFBTB has reported that you'll get a free Iron Patriot minifig when pre-ordering console versions of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes from WalMart in the USA.

Ace at FBTB vents his anger at the stupidity of making such a major character available only this way, and although I have now stopped collecting Super Heroes minifigs because so many of them are next to impossible to get hold of, I have to agree with him. Every Iron Man fan will want this. Why make it so hard to get?

(Thanks to everyone that emailed about this, I've been out photographing the new cruise ship Norwegian Breakaway at Southampton, hence posting it late. I mention this as a reminder that there is life away from LEGO and those that get wound up about this minifig or Mr. Gold should remember that!)

Fantastic fig!

as a UK lego fan, TLG are really doing their best to alienate me. despite the ridiculous situation with Mr Gold I have also missed out on the exclusive minifig with The Hobbit Blu-Ray, probably won't ever see this now as well. The worst part is that most people that want this will get it and TLG won't see one penny from the ebay/bricklink sales.

Glad I'm not a Super Heroes fan...

As Asda is a part of walmart maybe it will end up in the UK....?

On the completely unrelated subject of the Norwegian Breakaway, I was on the opposite side of the water at Hythe, pleasant LEGO free afternoon in the Sunshine. Petty I did not know you were in Mayflower Park Huw.

That's not fair! Hopefully EB Games use the same promotion!

By in United States,

Iron Patriot looks awesome, but shouldn't this be a Game Stop exclusive, because Lex Luthor was obtained there with Batman 2? Looks like I'll be taking a trip to Walmart...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Awesome! I was wondering why Iron Patriot hadn't showed up in any sets yet... Was already looking forward to the game, now this has just sweetened the deal.

@Sebatron1998: So far all the exclusive minifigs have been at EB, I see no reason for them to stop now.

Being a DC fan I've been gripping over Green Lantern since Comicon, these exclusives of core figs is frustrating. Iron Man is great though and the munchkins being a different generation will likely want this. I have issues shopping at Walmart though, I'll have to take a shower after should I venture in.

@ clan stonebraker I agree the place smells weird but I think preorders work online so I might have just saved you from smelling like nasty italian subs

i have heard of train spotters , witnessed airplane spotters , but ship spotters is something new , how does mrs huw cope with an afol/ship spotter ? :)

As awesome of a figure this is I still won't be sending any money to walmarx.

By in Iceland,

This looks like an amazing figure, but it would have been better with none of the building parts, just the figure.

By in United States,

Sweet is this only at Wal-Mart? I am curious if Toys R Us, Target, or GameStop will have anything? I normally pre-order from GameStop because i'm a pro member, but I guess Wal-Mart has my pre-order this time :/

Gravatar
By in United States,

I much rather give my money to Walmart than GameStop

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Although Iron Patriot sort of makes sense as a U.S. only exclusive, it really isn't fair because it's a sort of iconic now because of the new movie.

By in United States,

I put the XBOX360 game into my cart at Walmart.com, but it does not clearly show that there is a pre-order bonus minifig on the order form, so I am going to wait a bit...... Is that normal for Wal-Mart? Or is there a possibility that they will update their database in a few days and start displaying the bonus fig then? I do not always trust them... They are not always super organized! =P

GameStop is also doing a pre-order bonus, but it's just a normal Lego Spider-Man key chain.

Target and ToysRUs do not list it yet...

By in United States,

WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO BE A WALMART EXCLUSIVE!!! I can never trust Walmart when buying or purchasing items, or receiving anything on time, most likely I will pre-order them game, pay it off, then simply return the game and get my money back, then keep the figure, I only trust Gamestop or Toysrus when it comes to pre-ordering any item since at Walmart things tend to get lost or "misplaced" as the employees like to say. -.- *sighs, hopefully I manage to have enough money for the Jor-El exclusive from Lego, and a 60$ game I might never play.

By in United States,

Gamestop has a pre-order bonus for Power Card members: DLC Characters, including Symbiote Spider-Man and Thanos... Tough choice. I might have to pre-order from Walmart and just buy the DLC later on.

Gravatar
By in United States,

To everyone who is asking themselves, GameStop will only be giving Spider Man key chains. Source: GameInformer.com.

I would rather have the patriot than mr. Gold in all honesty!!!!

I generally just wait to buy LEGO video games until their price inevitably goes under $20 on Amazon. That said, I (and probably all LEGO/superhero fans) will probably really want an Iron Patriot after seeing Iron Man 3. I think the figure is perfectly designed like the other Iron Man figures, and looks great. Now on to the ranting part:

My qualm is that LEGO should have just released at least 1-2 more Iron Man 3 sets later in the year, because, let's face it, I doubt the three sets released covered the movie sufficiently. Iron Man especially is tricky because there's so many variations on Tony Stark's armor. Iron Patriot could have easily fit into another set, but of course LEGO knows that's the figure everyone wants, so we get yet another exclusive.

I'm think there's been too many limited-run exclusive figures with DVDs/Blu-rays and video games lately. There's already hard-to-get figures out there, but especially in this case we end up with "extra" figures that should have just been in a set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I never wanted Iron Patriot anyway. He's a spider-man character and was only thrown in the movie so it could be more toyastic and to add some pizzazz to their marketing. That's why I'm happy Lego used the real armor worn by James Rhodes instead the suit worn my Norman Osborn. That should have no connection with the film in the first place!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really… REALLY TLG, SUCH A WANTED FIG AND YOU CAN ONLY GET IT BY PRE ORDERING A COUNSEL VERSION OF THE MARVEL GAME FROM ONLY WALMART IN ONLY THE USA, WHAT ON EARTH!!!??? *Rant over*

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wait so if you pre order then you can return the game and keep the figure?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ill be stopping by there after work!

Marvel + Lego + Video Game = Good.

Free Iron Patriot minifig? So much awesome.

Well played, Lego.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Argh! I would kill for this figure! It looks so good! I'm really hating LEGO this year! It doesn't deserve the custom of anyone from the UK!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

It's a gorgeous minifig. Interestingly enough, as said above, in the comics Iron Patriot is actually a bad guy, someone who'd discredited Iron Man and Captain America, but still needed an iconic figure for the public, so both icons were combined into Iron Patriot. Check out the "Siege" storyline to see Captain America beating the stuffing out of the guy.

Lego and these superheroes...

On the one hand, I am glad that after all these years, I can finally have some Avengers and Justice Leaguers patrolling my Lego city. Yes, I do use bricklink and eBay to collect as many of the minifigs as I can (just last week, I picked up War Machine, Pepper and the Mandarin).

On the other hand, Lego has been -- putting it nicely -- infuriating, about all this. Green Lantern, Bizarro, Phoenix and Captain Marvel minfigs? I guarantee there would be crowds of people lining up down the street, if Lego started just selling those minifigs ... and yet we only ever saw them as convention giveaways (unless you're willing to fork out a grand for them on bricklink or eBay).

Like, what is the logic there? We want these figures. There's a demand and willing customers, and nothing. It is annoying. I want to shake them by the shoulders and yell at them, if you're going to make the focus on awesome little minifigs, then *fine* -- but follow that up by actually selling the darn things. Don't play these stupid one-off, hunt-them-down, hard-to-find games. I don't have the time -- and more importantly, the money -- for this. /rant.

By in United Kingdom,

Is anyone up for a massive protest and marching on Lego HQ?
This is getting so annoying bringing out all of these figures which are extremely difficult and quite often impossible to get hold of unless you have hundreds of pounds to shell out on eBay.
I've said it before but as a product I love Lego but absolutely hate the company and their ideas.

By in United Kingdom,

Yes, another 'golden carrot' just out of reach :(

Each release like this puts me slightly more off MFs in general, especially with the wonderful unofficial custom MF design and order websites now available but even they can not mould all the required parts such as these, how dumb.

They could just release licensed CMFs and sell many. In fact this is how I believe the Super Heroes theme should have been approached with brick sets also available with alternate MF costumes etc.

Gravatar
By in United States,

well there is some good news. I just checked walmarx's website, and the game (for the xbox) only costs $50. usually new xbox games are $60 USD. So i'm thinking it isn't all that bad. I mean, I have all the other ironman variants (that have actual helmets) and lego games are fun...so im not seeing a ridiculously huge problem.

By in Sweden,

Utter bullshit considering (mild spoiler ahead) the fact that War Machine doesn't appear for a second in the Iron Man 3 film. This minifigure should've been in the speedboat set, and War Machine should've been the exclusive polybag instead.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd have much rather seen this as a bonus add-on item at Lego.com, like the Hulk minifigure was. On the other hand, I want the game anyway, so I guess this will just help me get my $50 worth.

"Ace at FBTB vents his anger at the stupidity of making such a major character available only this way... I have to agree with him. Every Iron Man fan will want this. Why make it so hard to get?"

My BrickSet experience would be vastly improved if there was less outright complaining on the front page. There's a difference between reporting Lego news and pervasive negative editorializing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ It's Huw and Ace's websites so they can say and do what they want. You don't have to visit these sites if you don't like it. They may alienate a few people with comments, but we need them more than they need us.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really KOOL! (I know it's Cool)

Gravatar
By in United States,

vwong, they set the tone for the site. I don't think they *want* it to be a pervasively negative place. If they didn't love Lego, they wouldn't be doing this.

(I've also learned that if I don't speak up about what I'd like to see, I don't get it.)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

If you have to speak up about what you'd like to see to get it, why shouldn't Ace and Huw speak up about this? Because you can surely understand why some people might be upset that a minifig like that is only available in a single country.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This might be released in the uk via the biggest computer retailer- GAME. The last couple were released via them. Wait a week and ask GAME before you grab your pitch forks and torches!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Somehow I feel that this is more annoying to folks with affinities towards the comic books rather than the movies - a quick head swap and you have Norman Osborn in the "evil" Iron Patriot suit rather than Rhodes.

Gravatar
By in Czech Republic,

Yes! I knew it! I never lost hope. Have you seen this Lego version of Iron Man 3 poster? http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8099/8644067729_e7acda2578_k.jpg

Unlike the original poster with Mark I-VII armors, this one featured all armors made as minifigs, except Iron Patriot - until today. It was just yesterday when I pointed this to my friend. This is some great news. I'm so excited!

However, now comes the usual problem of great sets - it's going to be more or less impossible to get him.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hold the phone every one. After the game comes out do you not think some people will put it up for sale on ebay or bricklink. I did not get the preorder Elroud minifig but you can get for $16.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Question: why is everyone so sure this will ONLY EVER be a Walmart exclusive? Let's not everyone panic just yet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Side note, Lego Group is possibly not only to blame, I'm sure Walmart flexed some muscle on getting the exclusive. I doubt very much Lego says okay Walmart you get this Gamestop you get this... It's probably a series of negotiations, and Walmart is 600 pound stinky gorilla giving you a wedgie.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have no problem with this, if you don't want to buy the game just accept the fact you are going to pay an outrageous price for him.

Gravatar

Baron von brick nice !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not in my Walmart yet :(

By in United Kingdom,

Nice photos of the cruise liner, huw but what a terrible paint job! It looks like they got local primary school children to do it. Cool minifigure, shame its not coming here but hey, you're right - it is only a couple of bits of plastic in the big scheme of things

Gravatar
By in United States,

now to find a friend who might want to buy this game? Or? As a non-console game player, I have no purpose to purchase this game... except for the figure - and I consider that a waste of my money. Or, add it to the list of super heroes I will never hold, but had hoped for (Green Lantern, Bizzaro, Shazam currently on list).

On the bright side, I'm one step closer to opening a bricklink store to trim back my minifig collection to pre-dark ages size. As TLG has shown with their treatment of those who supported the hobby through the near-bankruptcy era to the global icon it is now (thinking about LegoFanTexas not being able to purchase a few small sets from TLG right now), the game is beginning to blend into a core image of profit (personal view) within TLG's actions. It has been fun while it lasted, though.

Thing is about these trends, Icons rise and Icons fall, and it only takes a small collection of actions (Baseball card collectors know this one from the 80's) to have the Icon torn down again (ok, I am calm again and ready for breakfast).

Gravatar
By in United States,

I agree only I hope the game is for ps3 not ps4 the mini fig is really cool-

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Does anyone know how LEGO will distribute this outside the US (if at all)? Particularly in Asia?

If this is indeed a Wal-Mart // USA-only exclusive, it's a real big time bummer for all LEGO fans outside the States...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Any word about Europe? No sign about this at gamestop or amazon. Hopefully it'll turn up sooner.

Why make it so hard to get? It's such a cool minifigure!

Will this be available in Canada as well?

It now lists the bonus Iron Patriot figure on their website. I preordered my copy on PS3.
