LEGO on sale at Future Shop, Canada

Posted by ,

Some very weird news from the great white north, at least weird to me that is.

On my ventures, I recently found out that FUTURE SHOP Canada sells LEGO.

There is currently a 20% off sale on selected sets.

For all Canadian LEGO fans another LEGO distributor is always good news.

Happy shopping...

UPDATE: Online only so far

How big was their section of Lego? I know bookstores like Chapters (etc) sell Lego in locations that are big enough to maintain toy sections. I'm not talking TRU or Walmart sized isles, but there's maybe a small bookshelf worth (usually a bit less than a LondonDrugs). And is it me, or are businesses affraid of marking Lego below 20%? I was in my local Chapters store the other day and saw they were blowing out toys for 50%off, but the NinjaGo boardgame they had kicking around only had a 20%off sticker. I'm wondering if all these companies get together and collectively decide what the minimum number to discount a Lego set by and have it sell actually is. Most stores have a lot more room on these sets than just 20%, and lately (and I mean as of last year) it seems nobody is motivated to put Lego on sale. Who knows, maybe companies like TRU are trying to throw their weight around and intentionally reduce their Lego sales in order to discourage Lego from opening their own brand stores. When Lego decides to move into an area, they must check the sales and shipment records of the surrounding stores that stock their product. On another note, Target (our new neighbour) has begun putting their magic clearance tags on certain sets. Of course, these markdowns seem to be within the 30%off range, but according to "American sources "these discounts get further reduced within 1-2week time periods. By the second clearance sticker a set can be 50% off, which is a number I can certainly live with!

Okay, my apology for going somewhat off topic, I think another Lego retailer is great news. To be honest, the best kind of small retailer would be one that stocks Lego seasonally. Places like SuperStore or CanadianTire, who want Lego around for Christmas, but then want it off their shelves by BoxingDay. Otherwise I honestly doubt we'll see anything beyond 20%off, which as you know is little more than compensation for the 25% Canadian markup on the stuff to begin with.

I have not seen any LEGO in the Brick and Mortar stores. If you go on Future Shop Web Site and choose one of the items it seems they are all WEB EXCLUSIVE. This may be their first move into the market before they decide to stock all their stores. On another thought as FS was purchased by Best Buy has anyone checked out their web site? Usually these stores have virtually the same stock.

Might have to go and check that out...

Both Best Buy and Futureshop seem to be trying to complete with amazon online. They're both added a lot of items online they don't carry instore. I wouldn't be surprised if some of their stores get converted into warehouse space/ distribution centres.

At least their online prices are regular retail, I don't know what is with NCIX.com their sale prices are regular retail.

I haven't been in our Future Shop in a long while. Might be worth poking my head in the door.

Sets might be a new edition. The only things I've seen stamped with the Lego logo are the video games in my browsing.

By in Canada,

I work at Future Shop and aside from maybe around Christmas, I wouldn't expect to ever see Lego carried in store. You can buy everything from camping gear and luggage, through cosmetics and jewelry at futureshop.ca now though.

The Lego sale page is http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/category/toys-sale/toys-sale.aspx and the 20% discount is applied in cart.

I haven't found any sets that I want myself yet but I check once in a while since I get staff price on everything! :)
