DK produce book for minifigs

Posted by ,

Dorling Kindersley doesn't just publish books about minifigs, it has also published one for minifigs:

DK hosts the tiniest celebration in the world for the largest population on earth

To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the LEGO Minifigure, DK is publishing LEGO Minifigure Year by Year – A Visual History; a new book that catalogues the life of the minifigure since their creation in 1978. To mark this special occasion, DK has created the smallest LEGO book ever made for the minifigures themselves.

Measuring just 20mm x 17mm, the hardbound book is a 1:15 scale replica of its human-sized counterpart, making it a future collectors’ item of the publishing world.

It doesn’t stop there, to celebrate the launch of the world’s tiniest coffee table tome DK held a press launch, complete with miniature cocktails and pint-sized canapés, at the Brick Lane bookshop in East London. A who’s who of the UK’s most famous faces, journalists and paparazzi (LEGO sized of course), were invited to celebrate 35 years since the first minifigures invaded bedroom floors everywhere, while being treated to an exclusive glimpse of the book’s tiny pages.

Simon Beecroft, Publishing Director of Licensing at DK, said: “During the making of the book, it occurred to us that we should also make a version solely for the minifigures. We thought it would be fun to make a hardback that they could actually hold, and even host their own book launch in a minifigure-sized book shop. They have the largest population on earth and it seemed like the perfect 35th birthday present."

The life-sized version of LEGO Minifigure Year by Year goes on sale this week. Featuring over 2000 minifigures, many of which were sourced and borrowed from LEGO collectors around the world, the book includes a whole host of rare or previously unseen models, as well as an incredible amount of facts and stats. LEGO Minifigure Year by Year affectionately encapsulates a strong part of cultural history and is perfect for LEGO fans of any age.

There's a video on Instagram that shows the insides of the book: it really does look like a miniature facsimile of the real book, and I've added a couple more photos on flickr.

I think there's room even on my bookshelf to fit that one in...

I would love to have one of these mini-books.

By in United States,

How does one get one of the mini-books? Are they going to be bundled with the regular sized book? A promotion of some sort? And is it just me, or is the dk.com/LEGOminifigures site not loading for anyone else?

On the 4th picture that posted on the Flickr link it shows a gentleman at a table with a stack of the regular-sized (real) books but also maybe 20 mini-books in front of him as well. Does that mean that they'll be available as well?

I would love to get my hands on one of those tiny books, but failing that, I look forward to getting the regular sized book too!

By in Canada,

Does it come with 3 mini-minifigs on the front cover?

By in United States,

I wonder why they didn't just include a regular book part (printed with the cover of the book ) with the minifigs on the cover of the book. This would be interesting, but I bet that it's going to be an "employees only" release for either DK or Lego. I'd want one as a collectors item.

Could this be some kind of STEAM exclusive?

But one problem, however. I don't think minifigures can read.

Where do I buy one?

By in Canada,

Does it come with 5mm tall minifigures for the minifigures to collect? :-P

By in United Kingdom,

don't mean to be a party pooper but even the people that worked on the book at DK haven't got their hands on a mini book and are unlikely to...

so not much chance for us :o(

By in United States,

So the big book doesn't some with the mini book?

That's a bit of a disappointment.

By in United States,

Any guesses on how much the mini-minifigure book will go for when it inevitably shows up on eBay?

@rancorbait

No, they come with three tiny figures that are proportional to them, i.e. less than 0.5mm high.

Just kidding! I have no idea what they come with.

Like many others, I hope it becomes possible to get the micro book - and I don't just mean as a very rare exclusive.

Cool, but how did they fit that many pages in it? ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would say that it would not be bundled with the regular book.

I'd say that this mini book was very difficult to print and cost much more to print than the regular one.

By in United States,

I have received my human-sized copy of this book from Amazon. Alas, it did not come with the minifig-sized version. :(

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

So, they've held a promotion for a book and then basically not just shot themselves in the foot but blown one entire leg off by not actually publishing the book that everyone comes away wanting.

Hashtag 'Pillocks'.

By in United States,

Apparently, there are 10 of the minibooks that are going to be given away.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

if they're giving them away, i would gladly accept one!!!

can't wait to get my life-sized hand on the life-sized version!!

By in United States,
